EXPENSIVE - First off, let me say that they honest. When looking for an auto repair shop that is the main thing you are looking for but you pay for the honesty, greatly. I have experienced this 3 different times now. As an example, I tried to start my car last night and it did not turn over. I thought it might be the battery but when I tried it today, the car started without an issue but the 'Check Engine" light was illuminated. I dropped my car off on the way to work and they said that they would check it out. Joe called later in the morning telling me that the battery tested as bad and that the low voltage possibly was causing the fault with the check engine light. I have a warranty on my current battery and I thought about redeeming it when he told me that a battery would be $168.00. I need my car tomorrow and I am at work now so I cant run around the city and make another appointment for my car. I know that batteries for my car run about $80-$100 depending on where you go but I would pay the extra for the convenience. He called in the afternoon and told me that my total would be $305.00 dollars and that it was just the battery. After telling him that I thought that he said that the battery was only going to be $168.00 he said that was just for the battery. The testing was another $80.00 they had to pay labor and some other things. Ultimately I paid $305.00 to replace a battery which I can, and have replaced myself. I have had tons of issues with my car because it's old and beat up, but I have only taken my car to Action Auto since my first review around 8 months ago and I am still as pleased with their service from day one. Joe is outstanding and greets you with a smile and excellent service. Nick also working the service counter is outstanding. Both of them are extremely professional and make you feel like you can trust them because you can! Mike is also the main tech I've had for my issues and he is also very friendly and informative. Even though they are a little far from my house, & I pass several other repair shops on the way, I highly recommend this place. I have been there several times as both of my vehicles are a little older and starting to show their age. I recently had an issue getting a vehicle thru an emissions inspection but Action got my car in and replaced a faulty sensor so my vehicle passed. Their turn around time is outstanding- Action always gets my car diagnosed and repaired in a timely efficient manner. They are very good at explaining the problem and repairs needed as well as communicating with you as to how long it will take to repair your vehicle. we just had our bmw 335i serviced and breaks job done at AAR. this was our first time just wanted check there workmanship, price reasonability and customerservice. i must say.... They are not the cheapest and the lowest from the price perspective, but we feel the job they have done is equally great as the dealer would have done. what you do get here however is the genuine transparency by their office staff. one in particular is there office MGR Nick. i don't think we would have trusted them to work on our beemer since this was our first time not taking it to the dealer... had we not talked to Nick. He is a fine young man with a great knowledge and excellent customer skills. so far so good! read more

We used this place a couple of times for basic car maintenance, including oil changes. Every time they tried to push the synthetic oil on us and each time we turned it down and used conventional oil. But this last time (and I do mean the last time!) they didn't even asked and just went ahead and used the synthetic oil without asking and charged us $60 instead of the usual $20. My husbands company had just gone out of business and we were on one income and they totally screwed us! read more

We brought our older (1999 Pontiac Sunfire) to Action Auto Repair based on the online reviews. The car had a significant acceleration hesitation from a stop, it would randomly stall when idling or when the rpms dropped below 2000 or so. Other than that it ran great, but the stalling and acceleration problem was becoming a safety issue. We had brought it to local repair shops to fix the problem and one couldn't diagnose it properly and the other charged $299 for a tune-up and stated it should cure the issue. Well it didn't, and within 70 miles of driving, the old issues were resurfacing. Action Auto to the rescue! We called, spoke with Joe and he assured us that they would most likely diagnose the issues and fix them properly. We dropped the vehicle off just before closing, explained the problems we had with the car and left, figuring we would get a call the next day saying it was going to be a high repair cost or something like that. Well lo and behold, Joe calls the next day, states they figured everything out, replaced damaged and malfunctioning items and conducted service checks on others. All in all, for parts and labor, the total cost was just $116. The car now runs like new, no more issues and there is a nice sense of security knowing it was fixed correctly. Had some billing issues regarding the cost of a part and the repairs being initially unsuccessful, but to the owner's credit he stepped up and made things right and then some. He showed a lot of integrity and earned my respect and the possibility I may take my truck back despite the issues. Not a lot of business owners that will take that kind of personal responsibility, so I have to give credit there. The owner is definitely 5 stars, but there are still some kinks in the system I am sure he'll work out. read more

When I go to this shop, they don't give me a list of a million things that could be wrong. They look at it for free and then give an honest diagnosis and fix it the first time around so you're not coming back multiple times for the same problem. What a great auto shop! As a woman, I'm used to mechanics being condescending or trying to sell me stuff that I don't need. But I was pleasantly surprised with Action Auto Repair. From the start, Joe was very friendly and helpful. My truck has 200k miles and I wanted it looked over to see what would need serviced soon. Joe had my truck diagnosed and gave me a list of items that needed attention, what could wait to be serviced, and how much it would cost- upfront. I told Joe that I would wait a little while before having the transmission fluid flushed... all of the other small issues, I'm going to have my husband deal with. When I asked Joe how much I owe him for his time- he graciously offered to waive any diagnostic fee! I'm very impressed with this auto shop and I feel confident giving them my business in the future. BUYER BEWARE: About two months ago I brought my Jeep in to get repaired. It needed a compressor from what I was told and this would fix what was wrong with the car. I agreed to let them do the job because Nick advised me that they would take care of it and get me back on the road. Over a week after I dropped off the car I got a call that everything is done and fixed. I picked up the car and drove it home, the next morning the pump had burned out and the problem was not fixed. I brought it back so that they can once again fix the problem. They ended up ordering a new compressor, but now, the second time they realized that a nitrous tank in the car was empty, so they told me that they can't find anyone to have this filled. I ended up picking up the car and going to a Jeep dealer to get the tank filled, then brought the car back once again. The compressor finally came in after a couple of days, so they put the new compressor in and now the tank is filled Nick again advised me that he took care of the issue. I once again picked up the car and drove it home and again the pump would not stop running and had burned out. I again brought the car back, but this time Nick told me that he brought the car to a Dodge dealer to have them look at it (not sure if that is true or not) and they said that everything had checked out, they didn't see anything wrong with the car. I told Nick I would just pick up the car and bring it to the dealer ship once and for all to get fixed the right way. The dealer ship that I brought it to ended up putting in a new compressor and figuring out what was wrong. Now the car drives great and I would never bring my car or recommend anyone to go to this repair shop. If they would have told me that this repair is out of their scope of work I would have went somewhere else. This repair shop charged me just under $3,000 for parts and labor, but couldn't fix the problem. Paid a dealership labor and parts to put the new compressor in and they fixed the problem. They keep telling me that they did their job, but they couldn't fix the car. read more

We took our truck to Action Auto on Sunday, and dropped the key in their "Early Bird" drop box. The check engine light turned on and the truck went kaput. Tom from Action called early Monday morning and told us what the problem was a transmission solenoid. They did the repair along with a oil change as requested. The truck runs great as if it was brand new. Thanks to Action we're back up and running in less than one day. We have also brought our other vehicles to Action Auto as well. Michael P. Last June my wife and I were driving through AZ. and started to have car trouble. The engine light was coming on and it started to hesitate and chug along as if it were running out of gas.We didn't know anyone in the area and called our friends in Care Free. They recommended Action Auto Repair out on Deer Valley. We were about 12 miles from this shop but found it very easy with our friends directions. Fifteen minutes later we show up at this shop with no appt. and were greeted by the owner Mr. Tom. We explained our problems to him and he gave us a couple different options. We found this guy to be very considerate and attentive to our needs. We also told him that we just had our 2008 Volvo XC- 90 serviced at the dealership in Las Vegas. and they charged us $1289.34.Today the very same trouble is happening again. Tom took the car in back and started to work on it. 10 minutes later he came back out and explain to us what the real problem was.One of the spark plugs were loose and the turbo hose was collapsing under pressure, therefore causing the engine to hesitate at low speeds. We now realize that we were ripped off badly by the dealership. Not even a month and we are experiencing the same problems they said the fixed.Tom said I have good news and good news!! We can fix it, the problem will be solved and I will give you 90 day warranty on our work. Tom fixed the problem that the dealership didn't and only charged us $289.00. My wife and I were so pleased with Tom and his crew. He is one of the most honest business owners we know. We just wish there was an Action Auto in Las Vegas and Chicago. :-) :-)....... In may of 2011 had repairs and was very satisfied. Returned in October and for $883, I got new water pump and timing belt and bearing kit etc. In Feb 2012,I was in Central Phoenix and the auto started making a noise like the lifters or valves were slamming. Not wanting to try to reach Action Auto, I went to the closest place which is Fletchers at 35th ave and Union Hills. They diagnosed the problem that bolts to the belt cover and belt tension-er were loose and they had to replace the tension er and other repairs to the total of $1300 plus. I went to talk to Tom and a mechanic who denied any responsibility. I went there because he was recommended by Mark Salem's web site. read more

They are a super bunch of guys. They didn't talk down to me because I'm an older woman but treated me with respect. They gave me a fair price for the repairs that were done. I have a 2009 Smart Car, it isn't an easy car to work on but they did with no complaints. I was thrilled that they came and picked me up when my car was finished. They have a nice waiting room/lounge if you are coming for a quick repair. I know now when it is due for an oil change to give them some notice so they can be ready parts wise. read more
