This is some INCREDIBLE quality food. Vegan friendly and for everyone who loves to eat clean and healthy. Can't believe I've never heard of this place until recently. Everything is so fresh and tastes so good in your mouth. I kid you not, you can tell the difference. I got a to go salad that comes with just about everything delicious and wonderful. It's so packed and at first the box itself is so deceiving but once you dump it all out to mix it together in a bowl..basically I had to use a mixing bowl because there was just so much! Been going for years always great food . It's kinda a trip because you wouldn't think a Mexican dish would be good at a vegetarian restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. The "Huevos Rancheros " are the best . Get the whole order because half just leaves wanting more . People there are very friendly . The place has indoor and outdoor seating . The restaurant is clean . I'm giving four stars because they don't except cash only card . I'm old school and can't give up my cash yet. I get the SC bowl with half kale and half rice double prosciutto and it's the best thing I've ever eaten i love it so much.

My experience here was just okay. I'm not from this area and was craving something to cool off from the heat wave. I randomly found this place on yelp and came when it happened to be happy hour. Happy hours are on Fridays from 3-5pm where your yogurt is 50% off. (I think the yogurt is normally sold about 41/42 cents per oz). This is a self-serve froyo place that is shared with the active culture-natural foods cafe. I don't know why, but half the machines on certain flavors were broken. Two were labeled to be "ready in ten minutes" but that wasn't true as they stayed that way during our thirty minute visit. The yogurt was satisfying. Of the few flavors that were available, mango tango was my favorite. They have a decent sized topping selection! However I don't know if it was due to the amount of people (aka kids) who were there, but it was a mess. Toppings were getting mixed up into different bins. I do appreciate how they cut up the fruits/brownie bites to smaller pieces as other places are leaving them as chunks to help weigh down your order. read more

Update* Manager reached out, apologized and refunded for the order explaining that it didn't exemplify their passion for the food they serve. I thought that it was very good business practice to take time to do this and showed great effort to be the best restaurant they could be *props* so I am upping my review to 4 stars.. It was 5 stars because the staff is super friendly, well versed on the menu, and overall good good people (Bijan was great). They encouraged me to try the frozen yogurt, and had a flavor flavored which I absolutely loved. Love how warm they were about that. My gf got a rice bowl, and I got a Hummus Quinoa salad along with chips, quac, and salsa. Their menu is very vegan friendly. Kids came here to get yogurt and turns out they don't accept cash. I guess every child in San Clemente needs bank account or iPhone to buy ice cream here now. We won't be supporting this business anymore, this new idea of no money sounds all to familiar and eliminates people who are traveling on cash, people who can't have an account, people who's identity was stolen and have a 90 day freeze on accounts, underprivileged people and those who believe cash is king. Unacceptable to not have the choice of how we are going to pay. After reading response I will say this, your staff did not allow us to pay cash when we visited. You can say what you want but you would not accept cash. Also if you read my review I own an actual restaurant here in town, we have a bar, dining area and many staff members. I understand the hassle of cash but this is America and we accept American paper tender. I have been going to active culture for years. Used to be one of the best places to get a shake. However this last year it has been hit or miss, then miss, and miss again and again. I started to notice I would get chunks of ice in my milk shake. I asked if ice was used because that's just weird to put with milk. I was told that ice is only used on the coconut bases when they mess up and the shake is too "liquidy".. ok well they have been messing up a lot apparently so with the new knowledge that the yogurt bases don't use ice I decided to try one. Took a few sips and every mouthful had multiple chunks of ice.. So I asked about it and was told they could blend it better for me. But the last time I was told there isn't supposed to be ice so what gives. Ok so the shakes suck now unfortunately and I'd be alright with a refund and be on my way never to return. Problem is I was told I couldn't be given a refund until tomorrow. It's not like it's processing and won't be in the account until tomorrow they literally didn't give me a refund. So I walked out of active culture without my order and without a refund. What could have been a simple refund part ways with a business I have liked in the past and sad to see it go down hill has turned into this Yelp review. read more
