Wish there was an active culture closer to me! Every time I see one, I just have to get some froyo. It's some of the highest quality frozen yogurt I have ever had. I just love it! Their toppings are great, too, but the location in Laguna beach has more toppings. Probably okay that there is less at this location, because I always go a little too crazy. This place is amazing and I'm upset I haven't been before now. Very clean and fresh smelling inside. Everything my group ordered was phenomenal. The wholesome bowl is very filling. I had a day to myself in town and Active Culture was the first restaurant that popped up when I searched for vegan food. Acai bowls are my favorite thing in the whole world so I was pretty excited about it. I ordered the Protein Bowl because I was going to an event later and wasn't sure what the vegan food situation would be. I got a medium which is priced at (I believe) $10.99. In Northern Virginia prices, this is a steal so I was expecting a smallish bowl. I have never eaten such a big acai bowl in my life. It filled me up all day and honestly I don't know how I finished it. The toppings were put on really cute and everything was super tasty. I was honestly disappointed it was so big because the frozen yogurt looked really good. The staff was nice and it was a chill place to sit alone. I usually love coming to active culture. My favorite thing to get is the wholesome bowl. Their frozen yogurt is awesome as well. And don't get me started on their burger! However, during two occasions have they gotten my breakfast order wrong. When I got home both times the order was wrong. The first time I called for my bagel they didn't put egg on it and the second time they didn't put any of the toppings I asked for (avocado, tomato, etc). I usually love coming here for a lunch, and my pick up during that time is never wrong. But something about the morning; they haven't been able to get my bagel order right. The recording kept saying that the call "can't be completed because the party is busy" or something like that. What is that nonsense? It was frustrating, but I was probably a bit harsh/crude in my review due to being hangry ...I ended up coming to the restaurant and ordering in person. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They told me the food would be ready in about 15 minutes, and I even noticed 8-10 call in order bags ready to be filled. The food was done in about 10 minutes and it was delicious as always. Would give them 0 stars. This place does not list their allergies in the menu, even something as simple as nuts! I ordered a bowl with and the OG sauce was on it, which has almonds in it. Vegetarians can eat just about anything (except the SC Bowl). Literally everything on the menu is delicious. For a filling meal, the Wholesome Bowl is hearty and super flavorful. For breakfast, the Huevos Ranchero is AWESOME. I am incredibly picky about my HR and this one is one of the best around. Just the right amount of kick and tons of flavor. You can get a half portion too which is nice for someone like me who doesn't eat a ton. My husband loves the nachos. So good! Vegans will be thrilled with the selection. Everything is marked with what is vegan (and options for making it vegan if necessary) and if there are allergens in it like wheat or dairy. The açai bowls are perfect. Their homemade almond milk is amazing (made w agave and not dates). The peach iced tea is awesome. The service has always been friendly and helpful. I love this place because I don't have to worry about what I'm putting in my body. I know the food is ethically sourced and everything is healthy. We went here expecting a healthy clean restaurant as it was advertised. It was anything but healthy and sanitary. First, I noticed that the cook in back was wearing no clothes handling all the food constantly wiping his hands on his dirty pants and touching everything else his in the kitchen. Second, I complained to the lady taking my order, which she said she would make him wear clothes but that never happened, After she told him We noticed him laughing as he kept on cooking and preparing people's food with his bare hands no gloves. The assistant manager was useless. After I told her the problem, She said that was not her area, she was not interested in resolving the problem--so I asked for our money back and we left. Brought my mom here for an early dinner and we both loved it. When you walk in it looks like a typical frozen yogurt shop, but keep going to the register and you'll see the full menu overhead. They have tons of (all healthy) options...salads, wraps, acai bowls, rice bowls, burgers, sandwiches, shakes and smoothies, etc. My mom and I both got the BBQ Burger, they have gluten-free buns (and regular) so I was stoked. The patty itself was made from lentils and had a very good flavor, but like most lentil burgers, fell apart almost immediately. The burger also had avocado, veggies and the most delicious BBQ sauce made from beets! Inventive. The burgers were pretty good sized and served with chips for $9.95, pretty good price, but I would have expected some better choices for sides at ten bucks. After our burgers we decided to see what all the hype is about with the Velvet yogurt...it was fantastic! I don't know what it was about it exactly, but it definitely stands out from the million other chain yogurt shops in Orange County. Creamy, non-artificial tasting flavors, plenty of fresh toppings, and moderately priced...but something about the actual yogurt is special, just can't put my finger on it. We ate our food on the little outside patio and it was very clean, bright and casual. Other reviews complained about the service, but we experienced very friendly and attentive service. The guy who helped us even came to check on us a couple times to see if we needed anything else...that's not something I would expect at such a casual eatery (think Chipotle). I am soooooo happy that there is an Active Culture in San Clemente now! I went to the one in Laguna Beach often because it is near where I get my hair done. I love their food!! I usually always get one of the bowls - my favorite are the Veggie and Whole Bowl. The yogurts are yummy as well and they usually have at least one non-dairy option which is great! I also love the coconut shake and the chocolate shake. I really need to try more items on the menu - it is just hard when what I've tried is so yummy.
