I'm not a regular customer but I used to shop here. I dealt with Kevin in the past and I had no complaints. Kevin is the reason why I return to shop here when I need something for my pool. This time around I needed a part and noticed their store front is no longer on beach. I sat in the parking lot and called the store number and someone other than Kevin picked up. I asked about the store and they said they are in the process of moving to a different location. I asked if they had parts available. He asked what I needed. I told him I needed some 1 1/4 copper pipe or transitional piece. He said they don't have parts available but they have service available. I can't imagine they don't have parts if they are offering up service to repair my issue. At any rate, I hung up and thought maybe I should ask if they can point me to another place that might have parts. Same person answered and said they don't know other people's inventory. I have been using Active Pool & Spa for over ten years, both at their store on Beach Blvd. and having them come to my home to service my pool filter. Since I do the the maintenance on my pool, I appreciate being able to bring in a sample of my pool water for them to bench test it at no charge. Don't be fooled by what may look like cheaper prices at Home Depot or Wal-Mart, Active sells only commercial grade chemicals which are far superior to other stores, so in the end you get more for your buck. They even help you to load your vehicle! Recently, I called to see if they were open and Joe let me know that they are now doing home delivery using strict social distancing practices. I found Active Pool on Yelp and I was very happy with there service and professionalism. They helped figure out what was going on with my pool pump. He also gave me a loaner lid to verify whether mine was cracked or not to rule out why I was getting air in pump. Told him that was not it. He had me replace my o-rings in valve and that did it. No service call. Just helpful tips that worked out my problem. Would definitely do business with this company again. read more

If there was 1/2 a star, I would rate this place as 1/2! Unbelievably horrible customer service. I went in earlier with my girlfriend and we received poor customer service. Personally I think he was being short and rude with us because we were a lesbian couple. 1) He didn't welcome us to the store 2) He was assisting another customer when we walked in and never once told us, he'll be with us, he just glanced and walked right passed us. 3) when he finally came to us - he just said "what do u need?" we needed assistance in buying a hose for a vacuum we bought for a above ground pool we have. He refused to even look at the vacuum, just stated: he doesn't sell them and wouldn't know anything about it. He talked to us for maybe 15 seconds, never asked what type of pool we had or what we needed. RUDE! I definitely do not recommend this store and now I wish I got this gentleman's name. Reading the review, not everyone has met Kevin as I have. The other two Pool Supply companies is who I have dealt with and ALWAYS was disappointed in pricing, but at least they could get what I needed and the advise was OK but always asked for. Then when I needed a part a part from the last remaining I knew of.....you MUST wait 3-5 days?!??!? That's when I met Active Pool and am very happy I did. They ordered it & it was there next day. Then after that met Kevin and what a pleasure to have someone who knows what he's talking about and a pleasure to deal with......LIKE THE WAY IT USED TO BE IN OC! Called and Joe came to my house to pick up bad pool filter motor. Very polite, following precautions wearing a mask. This is days before Memorial Day and my pool was down. Joe picked up motor with impeller, etc., and returned the following morning, first thing, with motor; new flex conduit and wires, pump seals and gaskets. I'm very impressed with the professional and courteous service. Been a customer for a few years and Kevin has been great in the store in the past and Joe out doing service and delivering equipment. I have to say I would never do business with Kevin and Joe again. Terrible job by Joe for filter cleaning and Kevin had to come and cleanup the mess Joe left. Kevin gave me his cell phone to call him directly for future filter cleans, called him the next time need filter cleaning, set up appointment, then Kevin flakes out of me. Said he was sick but never bothered to call back to reschedule. I tried to support local business and this is how I get treated. Pool maintenance is nothing more than an ongoing chemistry experiment for me. Thankfully, Kevin has a lot of patience and has taught me the easiest way to maintain my pool short of draining it. Be mindful that this is one of the best pool supply stores that isn't a chain and the owner does the best he can to give you good advice. It is up to you to listen to him and do what he says....exactly. I know that can be tough in this day and age but if you don't know jack $hit about maintaining a pool and don't have a regular pool service, then keep going to the chain stores and throwing your money away. Needed some work on our Pentair Automatic pool system and was not able to get the company that installed it to return our calls over 2 weeks. My husband went and spoke with Keven and the next day Joe was here installing a new auto valve. Two months later our heater quit working and we were prepared to go without a spa. Since I have been coming here my pool has been maintained the best in the 26 years we've had the pool. Pool stuff is not cheap but here I have always gotten the help I needed to do it myself and save money. When I tried to fire up my 9 year old pool heater in advance of Grand Daughters birthday swim party I found it would not start. Called Kevin at Active Pool and, explaining my dilemma, he was able to get to get Joe out that afternoon. After diagnosis, decided to replace heater with new Pentair Mastertemp 400. Joe and Kevin worked their schedule so heater could be installed in time to support the pending party. Good news! Bad new was that when new heater was installed on time as scheduled, it did not work properly. It was cycling on and off and would not run consistently. Kevin immediately contacted Pentair and they sent out their warranty tech to diagnose heater. He replaced internal electronic board but heater still would only cycle on and off as above. Pentair tech reported back to Pentair and they came back asking that I check my gas valve to ensure it was a "full flow" valve.....this in spite of the fact that it was the same valve that had been there for the nine years previous with the exact same model heater. Kevin followed up with me the same afternoon as the Pentair people were there and when I told him what had happened, he said to let him handle it directly with Pentair. He felt the heater was detective and should be completely replaced with a new one, which, at his own decision and risk, is what he did. He also took me completely out of the middle between him, Pentair and Pentair's repair tech. Kevin's active intervention and support resulted in a quick resolution and is the exact type of support and customer service one would hope to receive but so often does not. He pro-actively made my problem with the new heater and Pentair his problem and solved it immediately and to my complete satisfaction. PS read more
