Matt came by and did a service of the pool giving us an estimate on the cost of refurbishing our plaster pool to Adams brand of Pebblesheen material. They started on the agreed date and crews came out regularly usually a couple times a week. Each crew had a designated coordinator. It was fantastic. Any questions or concerns I had along the way were quickly answered or taken care of. The crews were respectful of my property and never left a mess or something in need of repair. I think the pool was done within three weeks. (We were working around some unexpected rain.) on a side note I'd ask the crew if they like working for Adams pools. I cannot recommend Adams Pool in Sacramento more highly. They redid our in-ground pool back in 2009 and it still looks and functions beautifully today. Even better is the level of support they have provided me over the years. Recently, I had a problem with the pool that I had not encountered in over 20 years of maintaining our pool. After working with two other companies, who could not fix the problem, I called Adams again, after all these years. When I explained the situation, they scheduled an appointment for someone to come out. That person was able to fix the problem in 15 minutes!!! This is an excellent company to do business with. Currently my pool is NOT done. I scheduled my work since October 2022. They started the job June 12, 2023. In the beginning they worked quickly. However there were weeks in between when nothing was being done. Which I found out they overbooked, changed staff and couldn't get their paperwork correct. I signed about 5-8 addendum. Went to the store to select my tiles and back up tiles and back up tiles and that was not communicated through to anyone. SO signed another addendum and select my tile all over again. AND the tile I wanted was not available. THEN when they started the job they STILL had the the wrong tile and plaster selection!! As we're wrapping up ...they sent us an updated city code requirement which was totally different from what was originally given. So why did they not send this during the 3 weeks that work was not being done?? Oh that's right, Very poor communication. Had to SPEND more money to get the required items to meet city code. We have been very compliant and patient with them and still no consideration. Do I need to be aggressive to get some action going!!? The company called me yesterday that they will have to charge ME for inspection. I hope they are eating the cost after they prematurely schedule it and it didn't help the city inspector kept switching his words. Anyways still this day .. my pool has not been done. The time frame was 6-8 weeks .. we are beyond that. Owner does not take responsibility, No consideration and no offer to give discount for the inconvenience. I hope they get their staff trained properly. I admit the salesman was good he hooked us, he was nice when he showed up. Made our selection and never followed up after the job was about to start. So here is our story. We started looking for companies a long time ago. We did our research and found 4 that we were going to get quotes from. 2 responded in a timely manner. Not going to mention the other companies. When we got our call back from Ezra he was friendly and professional. He came out on Saturdays to look at our pool,and talk with us. We gave him a LIST of things we wished for and hopefully it was in our budget. We were dreaming! Lol. We ultimately settled for the Adams pebble and we're not sure on the color we wanted. Ezra set us up with the 3 we wanted to look at and we were able to see them in an actual pool and not just a sample triangle. After selecting our color and agreeing on the price etc we set a date to start construction. Now we had a new contact and her name was Lindsay this young lady was friendly and very knowledgeable and responsive with my phone calls. Now and comes the construction crew. They were fantastic friendly and very respectful of our property. Answered all my questions. After that was done now we move onto the pebble team. Here comes my next contact which turns out to be "my new Besty" her name is Lauren. The team that came out was early,professional and again respectful of our property and eager to answer all my questions. Lauren was more than knowledge and VERY helpful when we thought we were not going to be able to have our pool service company come out in time to do the chemicals she went above and beyond and found me a guy to do it for us if we needed it on a weekend. Fortunately we did not need that but it was nice that she found us a back up plan. I'd like to amend my earlier review. After having difficulty getting a return call about warranty work, my Yelp review came to the company's attention. I received an email from Barbara Hall, the Controller, and after some conversation, she graciously acknowledged that while the work was no longer under warranty, my calls requesting it had started before my warranty expired, and she agreed to send someone out to reset the tiles that had fallen off. Today, Ruben came by and reset the tiles along with a couple others that were about to fall off. He was thorough and knowledgable, and he also showed me how to deal with this in the future if it becomes necessary. I enjoyed the conversation; Ruben is a great ambassador for the company. We love our new pool!! Adams refinished it for us in June and before that my daughter's wouldn't swim in it because it was ugly and the surface was peeling. Since having it resurfaced, we swim all the time and just love how pretty it looks. My oldest daughter, the most picky in the family, actually swims daily now when she wouldn't dare to before. She's always the first to tell guest to look at the pool. The staff, (especially Alex and crew) were all extremely helpful and professional as well. We had Adam's Pool resurface and update our pool and spa equipment a few years ago. It's beautiful! A few days ago I called because the equipment was acting funny. Doug came right out and replaced the part that was causing the problem. I tried to run the hot tub last night, but it wasn't working. The valves got mixed up because our pool guy had tried to fix the problem earlier in the week. So something was still not working. Doug came back out this morning and fixed the problem. David Adams is knowledgeable and seemed like a nice guy but be careful on his estimates. I have a 2-3 foot crack in my pool from top of side to bottom step and other minor cracks above water line from usual wear and tear over time. The average cost of a 2-3 foot crack is about $1800 that includes stitches for rebar. The quote I received was originally $4600 just for the 2-3 foot crack and an additional $1500 for minor crack above water line and to replace 5 small decorative tiles around top of pool). Adams may be very good at his work and a likeable person but way out of line in pricing. I had two other quotes for repair pool, same technique of cutting and stitching, and possibly rebar repair plus additional replacement of tiles and slates around pool for a total of $2000 read more

Short summary: If you are looking for PebbleTec, Adam's pool are the best out of all the other horrible certified PebbleTec contractors in the area. Does that mean they are good, no they are far away from it, just the only acceptable option available. Things to look for or be aware of during your project: 1. Communication is horrible, you will have to keep calling, leaving messages and emails until you are lucky enough someone will come back to you. 2. Only 1 or 2 persons have the ability to take decisions, rest of staff is powerless, so make sure you are on talking terms with Alex as early as possible to get your project moving forward 3. Get everything in writing, no word of mouth agreements. They never follow back on these or deliver them. 4. Take time off when the crew is at your house, they will leave garbage behind, destroy things in your property unless you are on top of them. 5. Never do final payment until everything is cleared and given a week or two for warranty work to show up. Go back to #1, and you will see how hard it is to get them to do their warranty work. They are super busy as there not a lot of good pool re-surfacing options in Sacramento area and everyone has a pool so expect your project to take 9-12 month for completion. I'm sorry to say that my experience with Adams Pool has been a disappointment. A little background: We bought our home in Rocklin two years ago, and the pool surface work had been performed by Adams in 2012 - a beautiful Pebble Sheen pool surface - top of the line, right? Wrong. Within the past year we have started to notice large cracks opening up in the surface of both our pool and our hot tub. The cracks continued to grow and widen and there is also some buckling on the pool bottom. Now the crack on the wide shallow step where my young kids like to play is big enough to put my fingers inside and sharp enough to cut their feet. I did some research on Pebble Sheen surfaces and learned that this is definitely not supposed to happen after just six years. The previous owners of the home did a great job saving their receipts for large projects, so they had all the paperwork for the work Adams Pool did, including how much they paid for the job. So I decided to call Adams to see what they could tell me about the issues. I spoke with Amy, who quickly informed me that any warranty the pool surface may have was voided by the change of ownership on our home. I said fine, but warranty or no warranty this still should not happen with this finish. I offered to send her photos, and Amy agreed to have someone come out to assess the issues and measure the affected area. Then last week I received a note from Amy telling me that the pool would need a complete resurfacing. She also included an estimate for the job - at FULL PRICE, with a 10% "in-house" discount. The note reminded me that there was no warranty on the current surface and that there were likely causes for the surface to have failed, such as the pool being left empty for a long period of time, or excessive ground movement. The pool service company we currently use also worked for the previous owners, and he confirmed to me that pool had never been drained and left empty during his time servicing our address. Further, if there was ground movement to that extent, why don't I see any cracks on my house? I replied to the email from Amy and asked her company to reconsider this decision. She informed me that she would send all the information about my pool issue to the owner of the company for their review over the weekend. Well, I just heard back from Adams, and the owner stood by the original determination that the issues were not under warranty and were not their fault. The owner authorized the office to raise my in-house discount to approximately 20% of the full price estimate - a nice gesture but far short from what this situation called for. Adams Pool is unwilling to stand behind their work. When an $11,000 pool finish fails after six years, the installer should not simply assume there were external factors. What if the work was bad? What if the bonding agent used for the surface was not good or was incorrectly applied? I understand that the warranty was not in play here, but what happened to doing the right thing for the customer? I was not expecting a free resurfacing, but certainly more than a token discount seems fair in this case. Swim weather is coming and we are not comfortable letting our kids use the pool because the sharp, open cracks might injure them - not to mention that having their friends over to swim is also out of the question. We are very disappointed in Adams Pool, and I strongly recommend that anyone considering getting work done on their pool move on from Adams and find a company that will stand behind their work and do the right thing even when it's not convenient for them. read more

I promised the supervisor who acid washed our pool last spring to correct the discoloration issue that I would update my post. Adams did finally return and do an acid wash of the pool in February 2022. They covered the cost of the work and did a couple of repairs to the tile at their expense. We have Spence changed pool service companies the pool looks much better. Starting to accumulate the cloudy layer on the bottom again and the new service technician is baffled with the cause and a solution. As we use Callen Pool Supply for our equipment, chemicals, etc.-- asked for a referral & they recommended Adams. Of course I also gave them our final payment. The following day we noticed all around the pool was left with large areas of cement that had not been cleaned properly. The entire decking needed to be pressure washed. We sent photos, they said they would be out the following week to clean up properly. No call. I wouldn't even waste your time having them come out and give pricing ..... We approved their price, for a pebble finish, at the end of March and scheduled for the end of May. Gave updates on my progress and once it came down to it, they told me they can't do it. A little heads up in April or May would have been nice, so I could get on someone else schedule. A comedy of errors is the most fitting phrase for our pool project with Adams. Each step along the way, a mistake or omission has occurred. Multiple neighbors recommended Adams Pool to us, and we were very optimistic in the beginning. The communication breakdowns among the team members has been the biggest problem. We are 2 months into a 2 month timeline, and the project is approx 1/3 done. My guess is that our project has been bumped for either shorter jobs or more important clients. Waiting, excuses, waiting, more excuses. 9/18/2016: I met with Ezra at our house to discuss an extensive remodel of our pool. He was on time to the appointment, which is always appreciated. We had a good idea of what we wanted but we asked for some guidance as to if anything we were asking for was overly expensive for what we would get out of it. He spent a good 90 minutes talking to us and measuring everything. He told us we would have a detailed quote in a week to 10 days. 9/27/2016: I emailed Ezra asking for the quote. 10/1/2016: I left a voice message for Ezra requesting the quote. 10/3/2016: Ezra responded to my 9/27/2016 email. Here is his full email, "Still waiting on engineering report. Hopefully tomorrow." 10/13/2016: I emailed Ezra telling him we decided against making any changes to the waterfall (which would have been a significant cost), and again asked for the quote. 10/24/2016: I emailed Barbara Hall at Adams Pool, her title is "Controller", in which I stated I was not getting any response from Ezra and I would like the quote. 10/25/2016: I received an email from Ezra stating the delay was "out of my hands". He provided an overall cost NOT including the concrete decking I asked him to quote. No detailed quote was provided. He provided the phone number to the concrete contractor. He gave no explanation as to why he could not quote the concrete. We were not asking for any special, just a replacement of the concrete decking that would need to be demoed during the remodel. Just basic flat work. No color or special stamping was requested for the quote. His email also stated, "There are still a number of items that need to be considered". But he gave no explanation as to what else needed to be considered. 10/26/2016: I responded to the above email from Ezra asking if my email on 10/13/2016 regarding not changing the waterfall was taken into account in regards to the quote since he didn't mention it in his single number quote. I also asked for the detailed quote he said he would provide 6 weeks prior. 11/6/2016: I forwarded my above email to Barbara Hall stating I again was not getting a response and I was tired of chasing them for a quote and I was going to go with someone else. 11/6/2016: I received an email from Barbara apologizing for their mistakes. 11/7/2016: I received an email from Ezra stating he is only messenger and proceeding to blame the following people for the 6 week delay in getting me a quote: "Engineer, VP Operations, Construction Manager, Project Manager, Field Supervisor, Plaster Supervisor and Tile Foreman". No explanation was provided as to why he could not respond to my emails and phone calls. It would seem that my job was just not what they wanted. They likely would prefer to do new cookie cutter pools which would yield a higher profit and be easier to do. Instead of them just telling me they weren't interested they chose to infuriate a potential customer who now has a great story to tell anytime somebody mentions they want to build or remodel a pool. read more

While the quality and workmanship is of high standards, I would NOT RECOMMEND Adam's Pool Specialties based upon my experiences. Scope of Work Pebble-Fena plaster, Cabo Shelf, 24' wall with ledge stone & sheer descent, stone copping, re-plumbing: Approx. $34,000 Pro's Adam's Pool Specialties delivers quality materials and workmanship. As a finished product, my pool is absolutely beautiful! I have had several other contractors (electrician, landscaper, awning) who have all commented on how great the pool looks. The schedulers at Adam's will provide notice for when workers are expected to be in your yard. The schedulers are well versed in the trade and can answer most question relating to your work. When the workers arrive, they arrive in force; 3-4 truck loads with anywhere between 5-10 workers. They work hard, and they work fast. They clean up after themselves and are respectful. Adam's has an excellent show room with all their products on display. Our salesman met with us and took time to select color combinations and have an in-depth conversation about our project. Con's 1) Part of the pool remodel project was to add a "Cabo Shelf" which is basically a very large (70sq/ft) second step. The Cabo Shelf has an umbrella sleeve and is big enough that two chairs can be placed on the step in the water. This add-on is $4,500. After the gunite was sprayed for the step it immediately became apparent to me that the first entry step was in the wrong location. The entry step was in the middle of the shelf, basically cutting the useful area in half. The shelf is a finite size and people need a clear path to enter and exit the pool. There would be no way to have a second chair on the shelf with their configuration. Secondly, the position of the entry step meant that anyone entering or exiting the pool would hit their face on the umbrella which is in the middle of the shelf. I immediately emailed Adam's about this and the salesman called me back. Without giving me a reason why the current configuration is workable, he said that if I wanted it changed it would be $400. Stuck between a rock a hard place and wanting to keep on schedule I agreed to the $400 change order. 2) We decided to upgrade our pool light to a LED color changing light - $1,150. An electrician (not an Adam's employee) who happened to be at our house noticed that the pool light conduit was broken and needed to be replaced. This was not captured by Adam's even though they would need to install the pool light into this broken conduit. Once again Adam's did not take ownership or responsibility. I understand there is a certain amount of discovery when it comes to construction, but why didn't Adam's capture this? They had people in our yard for weeks by that point. My electrician saw that this was broken from 20 feet away. As pool construction experts, I would expect Adam's has encountered similar problems in the past. Their crew should be trained to spot, report, and make recommendations as these issues arise. It quickly became apparent to me that the Adam's workers work in a vacuum and are leaderless. Not once did a site lead introduce himself or make any sort of contact with me. It seems that the workers are given work orders and are told to not question them. Anyone who has had any sort of construction knows that issues and questions will arise as construction is in progress. It is incorrect to train your employees to remain silent and passive. 3) The last stage of your pool remodel is the interior plastering, which generates a large volume of waste. The waste is a frothy blue mix of liquid and plaster; to a layman it looks toxic. Adam's erected a 6'x6' plastic lined box in my front yard to hold this mess and kept it there for all my neighbors to see. They only moved it days later after I complained. My complaint wasn't that it was unsightly (which it was) but the potential liability their actions could cause me. A child can drown in a bucket, and buckets from Home Depot and Lowes have warning labels stating this. I'm not sure why Adam's thinks this logic doesn't apply to them and their 6'x6' box of frothy liquid plaster waste. 4) Permit inspections will occur throughout your pool remodeling process. Adam's failed 3 out of 6 permit inspections. They even somehow failed the Final Inspection. After about 1 month and 3-4 phone calls harassing them to fix the issue, they finally sent someone over to make the proper corrections. Overall, I am very happy with the way our pool turned out. It looks great and functions as intended. However, Adam's Pool Specialties is in need of an honest self-assessment. I would recommend anyone who is considering doing business with Adam's to be vigilant and proactive. Do not assume Adam's will catch their own mistakes and/or take responsibility.
