My family is selecting a company to build our pool. While I didn't ultimately choose Pinnacle for the job, it was not at all because of the salesman/designer we worked with. We met with 6 pool companies and Jared was the easiest and best to work with, providing good designs, making whatever tweaks we wanted, and answering any questions. Our project with Pinnacle Pools Landscape Development included a pool, concrete, and artificial turf (installed by a subcontractor). Overall, our pool turned out beautiful, the project moved quickly, and there were definitely positives. A project of this size is a significant investment, so attention to detail and communication are just as important as the finished product. Unfortunately, we experienced enough quality control and customer service issues that future customers should be aware of. The biggest positive was working with Jet. He was excellent throughout the design process and remained our primary point of contact. He is personable, responsive, and genuinely cares about his customers. You can tell he enjoys designing pools and helping bring ideas to life. While construction questions often had to be relayed to Terry, Jet always listened and made sure our concerns were communicated. If it weren't for Jet, we likely would have chosen another company. The finished pool is beautiful, and Terry clearly does a good job keeping projects moving. However, I often felt that speed came at the expense of quality control. One of the first issues involved the concrete and turf layout. Our approved plans showed diamond shaped concrete sections separated by strips of artificial turf that formed an X pattern. When the crew laid it out, it was noticeably different from the approved design. Fortunately, I caught it before concrete was poured and they redid it. Even after the revision, it still wasn't exactly what we approved, but I eventually stopped pushing the issue. When I raised this concern, Terry initially told me that if they changed it, I would probably find something else I wasn't happy with. Once I explained I simply wanted the approved design, the conversation improved. Unfortunately, this pattern repeated itself throughout the project, and I often felt legitimate concerns were dismissed before being addressed. We also experienced water pooling near the side garage door. Pinnacle first tried a skim coat, but when that failed they replaced the entire section of concrete, which I appreciated. Other issues included pool finish left in the tile grout, paint overspray on my new concrete and home's stucco, poor fence gate workmanship, improperly secured electrical posts, marks left in the concrete from construction equipment, and a cosmetic blemish near the pool entry that still remains unresolved. One conversation about the paint overspray stood out. Terry told me I was very picky and commented that overspray had happened on other jobs and those customers hadn't complained. I don't believe expecting clean workmanship on brand new concrete and my home's exterior is unreasonable. Jobsite cleanliness could be improved. Construction debris was often left around the property longer than I felt it should have been. I believe Pinnacle's quality control and project management could also be improved. More routine inspections would help catch issues before customers have to point them out. I also think a dedicated project manager with construction expertise would improve communication. Jet handled sales, design, and customer communication well, but because he wasn't responsible for construction, he often had to relay my concerns to Terry and then communicate Terry's responses back to me. Although Terry is clearly effective at coordinating trades and keeping projects moving, based on my experience, I don't think he is the right person to be customer facing. Our first impression came during a Zoom meeting where the way he spoke to Jet came across as condescending. It almost caused us to choose another builder. Throughout the project, many interactions with Terry felt unnecessarily confrontational. More than once, when I raised legitimate concerns, his initial reaction was to dismiss them before eventually addressing them. Whether it was the layout, tile grout, or paint overspray, I often felt I had to defend why my concerns were valid before they were taken seriously. Over time, I found myself avoiding bringing up smaller issues because I didn't want another difficult conversation. There are still a couple of cosmetic issues I chose not to pursue for that reason. As a customer making a significant investment, I don't think anyone should feel hesitant to raise reasonable concerns. Before these issues arose, I referred Pinnacle to several people, including my neighbor across the street. Looking back, I'm honestly not sure whether I would choose Pinnacle again. The finished pool is beautiful, and I appreciate that several issues were corrected, but I think the quality control, communication, and handling of customer concerns need improvement. Overall, my experience was mixed. There are talented people at Pinnacle, especially Jet, and I appreciate everything he did. The end result is a beautiful pool that our family will enjoy for many years. I just wish the customer experience matched the quality of the finished product. read more

Needed to have an urgent sheer decent waterfall (older pool) repair done in order to close on our house as it failed inspection; and we already relocated. I was able to contact Jet (pool designer) at Pinnacle, he coordinated with Terry, and their team was there in less than a week getting it done. Around Christmas time we began seeking quotes for a pool in our new home. We had a fairly specific idea of what we wanted and had a couple other big name pool builders come by. We also called Pinnacle in our selection. During the quote process, it became clear that other pool builders kind of treated our project as a take it or leave it and were already difficult to get a timely response from. Pinnacle was the exact opposite. The crew that came to measure were professional and attentive, listening to me talk through size, shape, etc and offered ideas with respect to our original design without being salesy. What made Pinnacle the obvious choice for us (aside from excellent competitive pricing), was the fact that the OWNER of the company conferenced with us on Zoom to discuss our design, timelines, options and everything we hadn't thought of. He thoroughly answered all of our initial questions without any obligation. We signed contract with Pinnacle and they worked around our busy schedules and vacation time to make our dream pool happen. Terry (the owner) made himself readily available throughout the whole process and answered any questions we had (some even after business hours), which is typically unheard of with contractors. He would even text me ahead of time to tell me when his guys would be here to start work and consulted me with scheduling inspections. He made some last minute changes/pivots happen for us without missing a beat, which was impressive and very appreciated. All his guys were respectful to our property and home and worked diligently on all phases. Start to finish, our pool went from a plan to swimmable in about a month. ONE MONTH and it never felt rushed or like corners were being cut. Ultimately, we got exactly what we wanted and more with Pinnacle. Before our project, I resisted going in the back yard and it simply wasn't a space we wanted to be around. Now, we always go outside to hang out and can't wait for warmer weather to swim! Beware of this Salesman as he is not contracted to do pools, he made guarantees that he did not meet and subcontracted the job we discussed to another company who was also no licensed. Terry Neeley III Pinnacle Landscape Development, Inc. Look up CSLB 892669 anger issue, intimidation, inability to read construction documents and not following adopted codes or industry standards caused errors and omissions resulted in him abandoning unfinished work in a shoddy condition. My executed contracted scope of work with Terry Neeley III included grading, irrigation, retaining walls, drainage, artificial turf and stamped and sloped concretes, level hot tub concrete pad, and deck posts footings. The value of this project was over $45,000 and he selected the start and stop schedule. With a $1,000 down payment, Terry Neeley III showed up the first day at approximately 4:00 pm (Summer day) to collect $9,000 for no work done. (Red Flag 1) He walked off the job many times due to his anger outbursts and intimidation, but always returned with an apology to do better. (Red Flag 2) Finally he walked off the job leaving it unfinished with errors, omissions and overpayment - Plain shoddy. (Red Flag 3) I sent him a certified letter to return and finish the contract, fix and complete the unfinished, shoddy work or furnish a refund. He refused to return or furnish a refund. (Red Flag 4) Months later my home project site was falling apart due to improper grading, drainage installation, unfinished concrete and irrigation piping left abandoned on the ground, the first big rain cause major flooding on the project site and washed away a portion of the hillside undamaged easement while the remaining easement damaged from his bobcat and concrete pumper equipment including all the subcontractor he hired to do work as his employees, left me exposed to easement destruction liability. (Red Flag 5) I had to use a huge amount of non project funds to fix, finished and preserve my home's disaster project. The value of my project increased by 1.5x not to mention the change orders Terry Neeley III was bleeding me for to prevent work stoppage. (Red Flag 6) A complaint to the CSLB did nothing but caused delays. (Red Flag 7) I had no choice but to take him to California Superior Court of County of El Dorado California 3321 Cameron Park Drive, Cameron Park, CA 95682 Case Number 22CV1203. Plaintiff (Home Owner) - Defendant Terry Neeley (CSLB 892669). (Red Flag 8) After many hearings, delays, trial and appeals, The California Superior Court ruled on the above matter and the court orders judgement against Terry Neeley III, (CSLB 892669) Defendant to pay the Plaintiff (Home Owner) Court findings: * The court finds that Plaintiff has met his burden that $ was the total amount paid to Defendant. * The court finds that Mr. Neeley is prone to emotional outbursts, consistent with the testimony of Plaintiff. * The court further finds that Plaintiff attempted to get Mr. Neeley to complete the job, to which he failed to do. Considering all of the above, the court finds that Defendant quit the job and therefore should be held liable for any additional costs as a result of Defendant leaving the job prematurely. * The court notes that some of the alleged defects would have been cured had Defendant remained on the job - Defendant did not return to the job. * The court finds that Plaintiff has established that he had to hire contractors to fix defects in Defendant's work. Arriving at an exact number is challenging. * The court finds that Plaintiff never received the check from Defendant. * The court finds that extra costs were incurred due to Defendant's failure to address issues within the scope of its original work. Home Owner/Victim reviews: * Had to hire other licensed contractors to fix errors and omissions, and complete project * Had to go to court to get overpayment and cost for errors from the above defendant abandoning the job. * Had to spent time and additional money for legal recommendations, re-bidding, Surety Bond and dealing with a non-responsive CSLB including making expensive triple copies to court. * Had to spend time to attend and bring witness' to three hearings, Trial and an appeal. * Had to deal with the defendant's court delays including defendant breeching by circumventing the Superior Court building sheriff's entry security system. * Defendant's angry outburst was inappropriate towards my wife and witness in court in front of the judge. * We used photos advertised on defendant's web site but the defendant could not perform the work. * Had to use wet signature for the final because all defendant's prelim quotes had electronic signatures and defendant picked and chose the prelim quote that was convenient for him but was not the final executed wet signed contract. Hiring Pinnacle Pools & Landscape was the best decision I made as a Maintenance Director. We had a spa replastering job that needed to be done. We knew we had jet leaks and that it would be an extensive project. Based on experience I had seen this project take several weeks even months to complete by other contractors. When Terry said he could have it all done in 2 weeks I was a bit skeptical, knowing things never go as planned. Exposed aggregate was going to have be removed and replaced in finding the jet leaks. When that time came Terry did not let it derail the project. Things kept moving according to plan and his team worked hard and nonstop to complete our project by the promised time. Terry communicated from beginning to end in a pleasant and informative manner. He responded to my many texts when I had any questions, comments or concerns. His crew was professional, friendly, and efficient. They made sure the site remained safe for not only their crew but for me and my staff and the members who attend our club.
