Our pool pump died and was no longer available. Pentair had a new model. Scott talked to me about installation of the new pump. He said he had 12 in storage and he would go get one for me. When we arrived, it was in the counter waiting for me. They carried it to my car and told me if I had any questions with programming, just give them a call. It was well worth the drive from Stockton to Rancho Cordova to find a place that cares about their customers and takes time to answer all your questions. Scott and his crew are awesome! We've been Callen customers for 32 years. I never thought anyone could step up and fill Karen Callen's shoes (original owner) but yes he has! We appreciate their free water testing, great product selection, friendly staff. BUT most of all recently we appreciate all their repairs and even more Scott's amazing in depth research and advice for us somewhat handy pool owners. We have a 32 year old pool. This summer after being gone for some time we returned to find several problems (solar not connecting also its valve not opening, bottom cleaner gears worn & not working, return valve broken, etc. We got great advice on a workaround or two til parts arrive and repairs are made. We were able to purchase needed parts from them. Scott also researched and found the gears we need are no longer made. Thus he very wisely told us to find them on the Internet and get a stash for the future to avoid a very expensive repair bill. Scott also walked me through two easy ways to manually open the solar valve as the controller wasn't doing it as it should. Yep lots of issues old pool. Scott once told me he'd previously been in several aspects of the pool business: repairs, service and I think 1-2 other areas. It becomes obvious when you have a tough problem. I have a "pool service" but they don't do pool pump repairs nor pool sweep repairs or pool pipe repairs. Callen Pool Supply does all these types of repairs. I contacted Callen and someone got back to me quickly, got all of the information and scheduled for their repair person to come out the next day. And, it's right before Christmas. So Zach came out and replaced the pipe for the pool sweep that had a leak, he took the broken pool sweep to Callen Pool Supply for repairs. I'm happy. I was met by the owner Scott who sent me back to Everett who immediately took the time to troubleshoot, diagnose and check the ID number for its warranty. He discovered we had just two weeks left on the warranty. He then promptly contacted the manufacturer and was able to get the replacement part at no cost. I was thrilled. Called Pool Supply went out of their way to email me and call me to make sure I got the answers I was looking for. He told me EASY and CLEAR directions on how to disassemble and fix the leaks. My pool pump was not pulling the water through to the filter. After cleaning the filter and making sure there was nothing clogging the line, I thought I needed a new pool pump. I called Callen Pool Supply and spoke with Scott. He suggested that since the pump was running and I had cleaned the filters and there appeared to be no blockage in the pipes that it might be the O-ring at the basket next to the pump that needed replacement. He suggested I bring in the basket cover with th O-ring and he would take a look. He placed a new O-ring on the cover and lubed it. I went home put it back on the basket and now everything is working well! For less than $10, I saved over $2,000 in a repair/replacement of my pool pump. I am so thankful and happy to meet a knowledgeable and honest person in the pool supply and repair business. I will recommend Callen Pool Supply to my friends. read more

I usually use the convenience of Leslies' Pools wit their pool water testing manual machine at home. (I pay $50 per month and get $50 back to purchase chemicals). Prior to this I did my own testing and chemical calculation needs. My auto pool test today showed that I needed a huge amount of Calcium. I called Callen to ask if they had it in stock. The associate, a lady, advised waiting a few weeks and continue testing to see if the calcium level would start to increase as this pool is only one year old. She said that the calcium would continue to leach from the gunite. She stated that she has a greater than 20 year old pool and has never had to add calcium, but to the contrary has had to drain it twice for high calcium. I so appreciate advice over making a sale! Well I figured I'd give Callen pool supply a shot for a starting capacitor that we desperately needed to get our pool going as the heat starts to pick up. Unfortunately they only had an old capacitor that was out of a previously used pump, I was a little standoffish because I assumed this would just go bad immediately after installation. The nice older lady assured me if it was bad they would be able to return it as long as we had the receipt. Ok, well it was plugged in and smoked right away. Fast forward 28 days and we received a new capacitor from Amazon that works right away, no problems. So we call Callen to see if we can return the capacitor since it was faulty from the start and Conner says to bring it in and as long as we explained the issue it should be taken care of. They say they test used Capacitors before hand to make sure it's within range, however I'm not sure if they can do a esr, esl or ripple current test so they most likely can't tell if it's good only testing microfarad ratings, and because of its age the electrolytics inside maybe bad.(I didn't bother to let them know that I already know this.) So I take it to Callen and talk to Scott the owner and explained that it smoked right away and he tells me something else blew it. I explained that the newer Capacitor works just fine and he told me that it's a bandaid and it won't last. Which is a possibility however not definitive. What definitely happened is it blew right away and to me that's a bad part and should be returned. He told me after driving there that there isn't anything he can do for me, and Refused to refund a 20 dollar capacitor. Too bad because had he refunded it he would have been my go to spot for a new pump when the time comes. I am so disappointed in their lack of customer service especially after having to drive there for no reason, which is not a short drive. All I know is Scott and Callen have lost any future sales from me, my grandmother and my parents pools. Funny how Callen will lose customers over a 20 dollar part, which is peanuts in the pool biz. read more
