Yes I seen all the hacks about certain fruits which should be ripe but end up not ready for consumption. Then there are some which are visible like green bananas and green mangoes. These are usually found inside the chainstore grocery stores. There is one place for decades in the Mission District which has been offering one of the freshest fruits around in SF. It's located on 24th street and it's called Casa Lucas. On a Mission District Summer stroll I landed at Casa Lucas. Growing up in the Mission Casa Lucas has had a good reputation on having great juicy fruits. Although our family shopped at Safeway for groceries but the fruits were usually bought at Casa Lucas. Inside Casa Lucas you will see lots of fruits and also some vegetables. You also find salty chips and cheese like some in SF. This is a good place to grab those sweet juicy strawberries and mangos on those sunny days. Had my experiences with sour lemons and and "sour cherries" in SF I always try to find fresh fruits and the seasons "varies" Spring is for the "strawberries"and the summertime is the best to enjoy juicy" blueberries " The "pursuit"for picking the best ripe "fruit "is a challenge even from the farmers market to the farm at its "root"you can't know if it's juicy there is no guarantee and it's not "absolute"

The refrigerators are becoming quite dirty; for instance, the fridge holding the cold salsa shows clear signs of mold. Additionally, the produce quality has slipped. Just last week, I wanted to buy yuca, but the skin was moldy, which completely discouraged me from purchasing anything. I truly hope management takes the time to deeply clean the store and fridges regularly. Next visit Ill take pictures and upload them to this review.

But now that I'm trying to get a little more plant-based, I have a little more motivation these days, plus I have this neat canvas bag I got for free from the Halal Guys at 53rd and 6th in Manhattan. So now I can carry produce and compete with all those elderly Chinese women with their flimsy pink bags. Oh yes, that last Chinese eggplant is MINE, old lady! I actually come here for the produce I never see at Safeway or even Whole Foods like Romanesco zucchini. Y'know, the big gray-green ones with the prominent ribbing and nutty taste. No inappropriate jokes please. I also come here to get at least a couple of bunches of Chinese long beans and those silky-firm white peaches. I have to say I have no problem filling up my Halal Guys bag with fresh goodies because the vendors here always have quality produce (see my photo gallery). It's worth coming just for the free samples but expect to get an elbow in the face from the more aggressive cheapskates. Nothing is ever free, is it? The market fits snugly into the ground floor of the Crocker Galleria every Thursday from 11AM to 3PM (plus Tuesdays during the summer). Come early if you want your pick of the freshest produce, but get your stinking hands off my Romanesco zucchini. That's mine!

It's a tight knit spot and I enjoy taking a walk here while being on lunch from work! It gives me some insights on what veggies and fruits are in season!
