    Chocolate Milkshake
    Gerard Y.

I got a chocolate milkshake from here the other day. A nice and subtle yet sweet chocolate taste to it. A nice way to enjoy the recent heatwave that's been happening in The City lately. Check this place out if you're in The Mission and you need to get your ice cream/milkshake fix in.

LOVELY family-owned hidden gem. Their mamey sapote gelato tastes spot-on, but all the other flavors I tried were also delicious. Their smallest size is $3.50 but plenty, and I love that they have seating!

Awesome gelato chain tucked away on 22nd Street, great for a short walk after dinner to digest before indulging on dessert. Large menu but price was a bit high for a smaller scoop. Rich flavor though. There is a clean restroom. Stracciatella - super creamy with rich chocolate. Melted in my mouth! The base tasted like a rich vanilla and was a perfect combination of milk, cream, and sugar. Chocolate was smooth, elegant, and delicate, breaking easily with the least bit of pressure.

If you like sorbet (like me), this is the place for you! In addition to a variety of crepe, sundae smoothie, and other options, La Copa Loca had at least 10 sorbets with a good mix of classic and tropical flavors when I visited, which I find very rare -- most ice cream places only have 2-3 at most. Out of the flavors I tried, the passion fruit sorbet was my favorite; I really enjoyed the tart flavor. Not too sweet or creamy, which is how I like my sorbet. Mixed berry sorbet was also good. Dragon fruit (with guanabana and pineapple) sorbet was decent but a little too sweet for me. They have about 10 stools at communal tables.

Espresso flavor was my favorite flavor that I tried. Hazelnut flavor was good, but Pitango gelato has a more flavorful version. Good and reasonable prices but not the best.

Got the tartufo - choco & vanilla, hazelnut gelato dunked in cocoa powder w cherries on top. It was really nice sweet treat. Gelato was nice and creamy. There was a lot of whipped cream, I wish they had more gelato than whipped cream. The whipped cream was also oddly chunky but overall good

I may call this is sorbet shop. They have so many kind of sorbet along with gelato. Taste is really good. Not crazy sweet. Some special flavor for ice cream and sorbet like tamarind / papaya. I got the 6 scoops in the box. - Papaya: sound interesting to try but not good. Very bland. No has papaya favor at all. 1/5 - mix berry: sweet. Ok 4/5 - low calorie mango: good sweet. Good taste 5/5 - tamarind: good taste 5/5 - chocolate hazelnut: really good 5/5 - rum with raisin: the best!!! It's very rare that they have it here. I always have this one with different brand name ice cream box. Glad that they make it. Very good flavor and not too sweet. 5/5 Ice cream and sorbet is well made. There are a lot of different flavor for every one choice. Aside from ice cream scoop with cone. They also have crepes, and big container for ice cream from 6 scoops up. Service is ok. Very fast service. But all staff not so happy to help and seem very rush to take order . My first time being here. I need sometime to check out the menu also how to order. Restroom available for customer and public. Sorry to say. So disgusting and uncomfortable. Understand that this is busy street and so many ppl come to use the restroom and hang around in dining area. Street parking only. Peak hour may difficult to find parking spot. You can park on van ness ave and easy walk couple blocks to the shop. Not expected much for dine in or group hang out as i feel unpleasant. Good for quick stop by to pick up and leave. But honestly ice cream and sorbet are really good. Worth a try. High recommend with rum raisin/ tamarind. Let see if next time come back, they have the dragon fruit again or new flavor like mango tajin ( my suggestion)

Good gelato place in the Mission with many flavors, including sorbets. I had a rum raisin and an amaretto liquor - neither had strong alcoholic flavors. The service & ambiance are no-nonsense and there are few seats inside. There seem to be regulars coming to this busy corner shop!

It's the original sign on 22nd street of La Copa Loca ( Crazy Cup)

I am back to the Mission where it all began . I had to go to the original La Loca Copa ( crazy cup ) at Mission District location in the heart of San Francisco to get the scoop . This location is a neighborhood gem for over a decade when it comes to desserts. Sometimes the 22nd street La Loca Copa on a hot day gets as crowded as Mitchell's Ice Cream .There are lots of people of all ages coming here to enjoy scoops of gelato. The gelato flavors come in a range of different types of tastes like sour, sweet, not too sweet ,too sweet, savory and tarty. There is an emphasis of different flavors of Latin American food and fruit for their gelato and dessert offerings which reflects the Folklore of the Mission. I had the Mexican Vanilla and the Pistachio gelato on a waffle cone. It was a good tasty combination of sweet and savory. There are also crepes , croissants , smoothies, and sundaes available. If it's your mission to find good gelato then come to the Mission District on 22nd street between the streets of Capp and Mission. When it comes to gelato the two La Copa Loca locations are consistent and both menus match Come to the Mission and catch some gelato with a dash of agave and exotic flavors by the batch

I recently went here for a sweet treat. Heaps of sorbets that are all vegan. There must be close to a dozen vegan sorbets and a few vegan ice cream flavors. I went with half strawberry sorbet and half dragon fruit sorbet. It was quite alright. Worth checking out if in the area.

Roasting in the city today so we decided to get some Gelato. I can dee why people like it because it's convenient and has a large selection. I'll tell you why we didn't give it 4 stars. First off the Gelato isn't labeled and they woman gets mad at us for asking what flavors are what. Like for instance she asks us what other flavor can the white one be? Well, it CAN be coconut or it can be a cream flavored Gelato right? They also seem to dislike it when we didn't understand Spanish. I get how most people who come here do speak Spanish but you shouldn't knock us for not understanding. No samples given and it was really hard to figure out tge prices on the Gelato because the sign is so worn down. Skip the attitude and just focus more on how you would feel as a customer and you would probably get 4 stars from us.

Just one of the cases with each flavor nicely swirled

What a find here in the Mission. First time here since Bernie Bee's is closed on a Tuesday. My friend and I are eating our way through ice creams so after my new favorite chicken torta Cubano, again, from That's It, we came here. Cute store with a surprisingly amount of flavors and menu options. It's a little overwhelming but we got through it with a simple double scoop of banana and espresso gelato and the make your own sundae with straticella, banana and coconut gelato with walnuts and chocolate shavings. Plenty of whipped cream too! The gelato is not heavy and the flavors come through cleanly. I do like my whipped cream with a little more sweetness as theirs was fairly plain in flavor. Next time, I'm going with the fruity flavors because my taste of passion fruit sorbet was delicious. Definitely coming back for more! Oh, and the price is great. Under $7 for my make your own sundae. Thank you to the owners for being friendly to families looking for an affordable treat. While we were there, plenty of kids with adults came in. Support the local businesses!!

They are a neighborhood favorite, a long time staple for many years on Taraval Street…read more Last winter, I met some friends for breakfast/brunch in the Sunset and they mentioned wanting to get a few things from Gus' on Noriega. It'd been ages since I've been in the area, literally decades. After shopping there, we walked to the popular bakery on the other side of the street on the next block. While my friends walked in to browse, I notice the name of this store two doors west, learning where they relocated. Being full, I wasn't interested in eating or bringing anything home at the time but I made a mental bookmark of the location. Eight months later, my friend texted me, with summer upon us, that she had an ice cream craving. Since I was in the area for a vet appointment and was done early, I made my way here. Arriving just before 3 pm on Friday, I took a few photos before sharing them with a friend and studied the menu. My friend shared her order for two different flavors and I asked to sample a flavor before deciding on mine, all take home pints. Several days later, I started with my sesame ice cream (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=sicRvcpCYIgfLIjQfePgVg). This was the flavor that I tried in-store and the helpful gal there told me it is her favorite flavor. I enjoyed the intense flavors and there was no mistaking the sesame. Do note that the texture of the ice cream is what won me over as it stayed consistently frozen as I spooned it into my mouth. It is not overly rich yet it is thick and the texture remains consistent. I also tried the guava ice cream (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=c9t2lg6R6dvZ4p9yNawsUA). Consistent with the sesame ice cream, I enjoyed the feel of it and the guava flavors were on point with being overly sweet. Again, I rationed myself to 1/3rd of the container per sitting since I had this after dinner. Given my timing, it isn't surprising that I was the only customer throughout my purchase. Thank you to Jaz for the recommendation and your patience in waiting as I got my friend's order and decided on mine. As I crossed the street to my car, I noticed three officers from SFPD walking in. It's good to see neighborhood locals supporting this local business. I look forward to returning before the summer ends. After all, what goes better with the summer than ice cream.

I kid you not, half the container was carb filler, corn flakes or some such crap. That friend is still trying to regain my trust. If you told me then that my next gelato attempt would be a $40 delivery, blind, I'd attack you with my rolling pin and screaming "Sparisci!" God, whyyyy does gelato have to be so expensive? At the very least, this gelato was phenomenal. All 3 flavors had me slapping my mother and the poor woman was stuck in 2 dimensions behind a picture frame! I know I paid too much but I don't feel ripped off. It was more of a treat for my husband. I got the ~2 pint...err...trough lol...with 3 flavors. Salted Caramel, Gianduja, and the L'inimitabile. Not to toot my own horn here, but I can get by in Italy on my eloquent-as-a-banshee Florentine when up north, thanks to my doctorate degree in taking my sweet ass time at CCSF. I can even wield what little Salentino has remained with me after all these years when I'm in Puglia. Trying to pronounce "L'inimitabile" in my head has been nothing short of self-inflicted emotional terrorism. I'm not the type of person to care where an ingredient comes from, even when it's exotic and upscale-sounding, because best-case scenario it's after midnight and I am rifling through the production standards of that crop in its homeland while all my actual obligations are put on hold because I'm not allowed to take my medication after 6pm. Madagascar vanilla was fun. Let's guess how many baby lemurs I've slaughtered for this passing indulgence. I prefer everything local, like this boxed wine from the Tenderloin. Franzia, cara mia! Ever since my annual visits to Italy 20-25 years ago, I have been trying to find that "Nutella" flavor that used to be EVERYWHERE (I now know it wasn't literally Nutella but some hodgepodge of chocolate and hazlenut with the shade of brown of a German chocolate pie) in both Italy but also local gelaterias here like Naia. L'inimitabile is the closest but it still isn't quite there. Unfortunately, your product is too expensive (certainly for delivery) to be a regular visitor to our door but I do see us indulging on special occasions and possibly waltzing in when we are in the neighborhood! All the Naia locations disappeared but they apparently still ship product to supermarkets. I contacted Naia asking about that Nutella flavor they used to carry and they completely ignored me. I would've accepted a vague threat like "if we told you, we'd have to kill you" but ignoring me comes at a price. Maybe I'll leave a withering comment as a footnote in my review for a competing gelateria, then if you stumble upon this years down the road, I hope the embarrassment moistens a liquid charge down your pant leg.

They also have quite a large selection of alcohol and cigarettes-- which could make for a good quick pick-me-up. I visited on a Wednesday night and got myself a cone with two scoops of Hazelnut Brownie + Stracciatella -- which were honestly so yummy. It was stretchy and soft and made for a perfect dessert after dinner. You are allowed only two samples though so be wary of your choices. Today, when I went -- I was excited to try their sandwiches, I was looking at the menu and the Alpino caught my eye. Normally, not a fan of bacon but this sandwich was fresh- the mix they offer in sauces and veggies were so good. The sandwich was refreshing to eat with a decent amount of turkey slices they packed in. The bread was also toasted and gave a nice crunch with a soft interior to every bite. The sandwich is admittedly a little pricey, but I would purchase again. Now the customer service, like other reviews may have mentioned was a little off at times? It didn't feel friendly or welcoming at times and when I was ordering I felt rushed or ignored-- I was trying to order two sandwiches to which, she immediately began to make the first one without a single word. I chose to wait until she was done because I wasn't sure when I could let her know about the other order as she was moving back and forth between stations, but she finished and I let her know about the other order to which she said, "How many more sandwiches?" Honestly, that comment did throw me off a little, but I told her this was the last one and she did make it quite quickly. Now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt as she could be tired or not feeling the best-- but I would say I just wished she was a bit more acknowledgeable toward the customers behind the counter as it did make me discomforted by her lack of response and also the reaction she had when I let her know about the other sandwich. She did at least tell me to have a good day afterwards, so I do hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring incident as I really do love coming to Alimento for the gelatos and sandwiches. (~_~;) I would recommend coming here if you're visiting around North Beach! Alimento makes for a great lunch spot with their sandwiches or a nice sweet treat with their gelato. ^o^

They have a policy where each person can only try three flavors, in the interest of keeping the line moving. The inside is a bit cramped with some seating inside and a refrigerated cabinet with ice cream based treats, as well as a cute spot for "dog parking" by the door. I really like their giant ice cream figurine outside. The first time I visited, I tried their dark chocolate sorbet and mascarpone gelato. This combination was absolutely HEAVENLY. The chocolate was rich and not too sweet, and the mascarpone tasted exactly like a tiramisu. I am always amazed by how they can get chocolate sorbet to taste just as good as chocolate gelato, as there isn't any milk. The second time, I tried their matcha blackberry ice cream and strawberry sorbet. The matcha was smooth and strong, and paired beautifully with the two summer flavors. The strawberry sorbet is limited to only a few weeks and it's so, so good, like summer in a cup!! This is one of my fave spots in the city for classic flavors with perfect execution. I can't wait to try their coffee and pistachio flavors!

Unfortunately, since they were in ice cream carts outside on a very sunny day, it was served slightly melted. We got a regular cup (came smaller than most ice cream shops) of their pistachio and Strauss yogurt, both really delicious, but tell me why did it cost $15 for that??? I'm sure the fair played a part in the price inflation, but I don't think any ice cream I've ever had can justify that price and I LOVE ice cream. It's really good ice cream but extremely overvalued. Not any better that ice cream shops that serve that size for $5-$6.

Located directly at the corner of Union St/Buchanan St in the heart of the Marina, this wildly popular place that is owned and operated by Italians has been in operation dating back to early-2018. The hours of operation here are quite generous as they're open daily from 10:30am-9:30pm with extended hours until 10:30pm on Friday & Saturday. The interior layout is small yet big enough to showcase several items for purchase; whole & ground coffee, jams, spreads, snacks, and even pasta sauces. And if gelato isn't your thing, they also have quite a bit of Italian cookies and desserts for purchase. Finally, if you wish to enjoy your gelato before it melts, they also offer a couple of small tables & chairs inside as well as one public restroom. Now onto the gelato itself! Much of their gelato is dairy-free & vegan plant-based with some of their gelato offering the addition of sugar, water and/or milk. They offer 4 different sizes (kids, small, medium, large) in either a cup or cone. And if you're thinking outside of the box, they also have a nice variety of espresso drinks as well as fresh pastries that are baked daily. Since I wasn't too hungry (after a big dinner), I went with a kids size cone of their "Italian Crema". This was a rich, velvety texture of creamy deliciousness. And since it was considering a 'kids' size, I didn't feel too guilty enjoying this. I will say that the customer service here was top notch as the employees allowed me to sample a few gelatos prior to narrowing down my selection. The prices are also quite reasonable as they are lower than some of the other places in San Francisco as well as gelato spots I've been to in Los Angeles and New York. With a charming interior setup, prime location, and delicious gelatos, I am giving "GIO Gelati" a perfect five-star rating.
