The lake area is in a shallow cove and my kids were literally able to run out for a few minutes and still be up to their knees. There are plenty of kayaks and paddle boats to take out, and a small sandy beach area for the kids to play. There's also a pool on the property, but the lake area was great so we never even went. Rooms are a little older, but they are clean and spacious. The property is pretty small, so everything is an easy walk. There's also plenty of parking onsite. The location is also prime in Bolton and it's just a two minute drive up to all the shops and restaurants. The owners were super sweet and friendly and helped us out a few times when we were locked out of our room. Overall, this is a really nice family run hotel in Bolton and the location on the lake can't be beat. There are definitely cosmetic upgrades that could be made, but like many other hotels in the area it's a little old school. Looking forward to coming back - we had a great time here.

The foods is terrific and the rooms are spacious and clean, and includes a sizable semi-private balcony. The room we had was spacious, comfortable and clean as a whistle. One minor complaint: the shower head was about 8 inches lower than it should have been. It was at the height of my chin and I'm not tall. It was just too low. It's a shame since the tile in the shower seemed new and suggested it was recently redone, but not perfectly. Maybe the installer was vertically challenged (e.g. short). Our food servers, Kenzie and Stacey, and the boat guys, were absolutely delightful, and it's clear that management treats their employees well, but run a "tight ship" which ensures quality. They have pontoon boats that offer a tour of the nearby shoreline which was good, but it was the only activity we were able to take advantage of, due to the gray skies and cool weather (in the 60's and low 70's). On Thursday night, they have a barbeque on "the Island"in the middle of the lake, but it was done in the dining room instead, so we didn't even get to see the island, which was a huge disappointment. Unfortunately, we booked for three nights and had three days of gray skies, as to he remnants of the recent hurricane moved past, but we made the best of it and enjoyed our visit. Hopefully, if we visit again, we will have better luck with the weather. Most guests were repeat visitors, with the comments typically "We've been coming for 17 years," or 14 years, or something similar. As newcomers, we were welcomed, and I recommend the resort, but strongly recommend you stay a full week, and it's really more of a family resort than anything, so bring a good large family with you to have the best time.

What started as a simple trip turned into something much bigger a weekend that's about reconnecting, laughing, catching up, and picking up right where we left off every year. By the time the Super Bowl rolls around, it feels less like a trip and more like a reunion. The first week of Winter Carnival just makes it better. The ice bar, great food and drinks, the energy around the resort and town it all sets the tone for an unforgettable winter weekend. A huge part of why this works year after year is the people who make the place feel like home. Courtney, the general manager, keeps everything running smoothly and consistently she sets the standard. Tyler and Nicole at the bar are always a big part of the weekend, and Becca and Tonya at the front desk make arrivals feel easy and welcoming every single time. Even in the heart of winter, the place is always spotless thanks to Keisha and her housekeeping crew something we appreciate more than most people realize. Sixteen straight Super Bowl weekends, countless memories, and friendships that keep growing. Some traditions just stick because they're done right. Can't wait to see everyone again at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George. Already counting down.

We have been coming every winter for the past six years and have made some terrific memories here…read more There is so much I genuinely like about this place. The location is convenient and feels like part of our ritual now. The staff are almost uniformly kind and welcoming to our kids and us. They remember us, greet us cheerfully and make this feel like a home base. The outdoor hot tub was a particularly welcome amenity on this past brutally cold weekend and it helped us warm up a chill that seemed to go straight to our bones after time outside on the lake. It really is one of those few places that feels like a welcome retreat no matter the weather. If there weren't any flaws, this would be a much easier review to write. But there are flaws, and they are things that should have been tended to long ago. The rooms have definitely seen better days. Many of our dresser drawers barely opened. The refrigerator was hardly cool. Furniture had visible damage and some of the electrical outlets were non-functional or battered to the points that plugs fell right out f them. These are not deal breaking in isolation but taken together they left us feeling that the room was tired and poorly maintained. A little thoughtful maintenance or investment here could go a long way and make the rooms feel a lot more comfortable. Another disappointment this year was the breakfast buffet at TRs Restaurant. In years past it was a highlight and something our kids looked forward to to prepare for a cold morning out. This visit, the quality seemed to have declined and the selection felt smaller. The restaurant itself still has a lovely lake view and a cozy fireplace, and the service was still friendly and attentive, but the breakfast spread did not live up to our memories. So I find myself landing on a three star rating. If you take this place for what it can still be, it is a wonderful family resort with great staff and some truly nice amenities. But right now the condition of the rooms and some of the public areas combined with the breakfast experience hold it back from being the much stronger destination I know it can be. Here is hoping that ownership puts some money back into the property so it can recapture its full potential.

The room had two king beds, a small miracle for a man accustomed to one, and the soundproofing was a triumph of human engineering. Even with Oktoberfest raging below, once the balcony door was closed the silence was so complete that I could almost hear my own thoughts apologizing for existing. The hotel sits right on Canada Street, which is the main artery of Lake George's little heart. Shepard Park is practically across the street, full of families, music, and the particular chaos of people on vacation trying to have a perfect time. The staff managed to stay cheerful through it all, smiling with the kind of sincerity that must come from good training or good souls. Parking was a game of Tetris, but I was grateful for the garage. Once my car was wedged in, I had no reason to drive again. Everything that mattered was within walking distance. The rooftop terrace deserves a poem, though I am too lazy to write one. The lake spread out below, blue and calm, and for a few minutes I believed in peace on earth. There is no hot tub, which feels like a crime against nature. The patio outside the pool almost begs for one. Imagine sitting there in January, snow falling into the water, steam rising like forgiveness. The restaurant did not thrill me, and the prices made my wallet flinch. Still, it was a fine stay, the kind that makes you feel momentarily better about the human race before the bill arrives to remind you of reality. Four stars. A lovely place, too expensive for what it is, but worth remembering all the same.

Everyone I mentioned it to raved about how wonderful it is, so we arrived with high expectations and lots of anticipation. At check-in we were given a list of activities, which all looked fun -- though we later learned most didn't begin until the following day. Not a big issue, just something to be aware of if you're arriving for a short stay. We stayed in the Hermitage Lodge, and the layout of the room was actually very nice -- a downstairs kitchenette and small living area, with a beautiful loft upstairs featuring a king bed. The only drawback was having just one bathroom. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving, we noticed several ants -- first on the bed in the loft, then in the bathroom, and later in other areas of the room. Given the cold winter weather, it was surprising. We chose to mention it to the front desk the next day. They kindly offered to move us and provided a $70 credit, which we appreciated. Since we only had one night left, we decided not to relocate. At the room rate, we had hoped for a bit more in terms of condition upon arrival. We enjoyed lunch at Caldwell's and dinner at Mr. Brown's Pub, and later at La Bella Vita -- all pleasant experiences (I've reviewed those separately). The property itself is truly beautiful. In the winter, however, many of the scheduled activities and amenities seemed primarily geared toward families with young children. That's perfectly fine -- I've raised two boys, I get it -- but it wasn't quite the "grand" weekend experience we had envisioned. I can absolutely imagine that in the summer, with the stunning views of Lake George and the full range of offerings, this resort feels magical. In the winter, while still lovely, it didn't fully match our expectations for the price point. Overall, it's a beautiful property with kind staff and great dining -- just perhaps better suited to families or a summertime stay.

My experience aligns with just about every other 1-3 star review from people who've stayed at "the…read morelodge". The overall experience wants to trend positive but there are very real problems that can't get me past two stars and would make it hard for me to suggest The Sagamore to anyone. "The lodge" is a row of condo-like rooms that were tacked onto the property at some point in the last ~30 years and remind me of college campus apartments. They're spacious and have quite large kitchens, which was a nice surprise, although there is no oven and the range takes _forever_ to bring water to a boil. Some of the rooms face the lake and feature a wonderful outdoor area but the rest face the parking lot at best or are below ground level and face a retaining wall at worst. The layout of the light switches inside the rooms was bizarre and we never fully got a handle on it during our three day stay (more on this later ...). It was an adventure every time we needed to turn particular lights on/off. These rooms are also in need of renovation. Our room had (what appeared to be) black mold emanating from the HVAC vents, the bathroom sink was cracked, the drain stopper was broken and a few of the light switches and sockets were hanging out of the walls. This would all be understandable if these suites were student housing but they're charging upwards of $600 per night to stay in these facilities. The rest of the facilities were _mostly_ nice. The views of the lake from the hotel and around the grounds are stunning. It's a very beautiful place to spend time. Our kids had a great time at the rec center and the afternoon movies are a particularly great option. We also greatly enjoyed the boat tours on the Morgan. There are 2-3 different tours which run throughout the day but they do reach capacity pretty quickly, so get there early. I say _mostly_ above because the facilities are showing their age in lots of places. There is some historical signage on display throughout the hotel which features fascinating bits of history and photos of The Sagamore. However, many of the signs are beginning to peel. There are also places where paint is peeling, there are sapling growing in the gutters, etc. The latter class of issues could be addressed in an afternoon and there's no excuse for that sort of shabbiness in a place charging such exorbitant rates. The staff is another problematic aspect of The Sagamore. Most of my family's interactions with the stuffy staff at the hotel (specifically) were cringeworthy and uncomfortable. They're clearly judging people based on some criteria and treating them with/out respect accordingly. They're like bad impressions of the "snooty" waiter in Ferris Beuller's Day Off. One of the employees who was driving a golf cart down the driveway towards one of the cottages yelled at me to get out of his way ("I need to get in there!") _while_ I was pushing a stroller. I'd be curious to know if he'd have given me the same treatment when I was visiting that cottage for a party later that day and he was sure I wasn't some peasant who'd wandered onto the island. There's weirdly only one place to buy coffee inside the hotel and that's at Caldwell's. (This is an obvious miss as a number of people in my party regularly walked off the island to get coffee at the local cafes.) I had an awful interaction with the maître d when ordering a coffee there. Upon entering, it's not at all clear if you can buy a coffee or where and this staffer treated me as if I was asking for directions to the nearest Chuck-E-Cheese when I inquired. I eventually ordered and left a tip for my drink and was met with a literal raise of his eyebrows when I thanked him. Ironically, some of the patrons who were clearly very wealthy (i.e. the people whose arses the staff would rather be kissing) were happy to see my family and our two young kids. We chatted with a number of people who were very friendly and fawning over our toddler before/after being treated rudely by the staff. As alluded to above, The Sagamore has a three-night minimum during certain peak periods, like foliage season. I was there for a wedding and this was a major point of frustration for many of the guests. Some people were able to get their third night's reservation canceled, so if you do find yourself stuck in this situation, it's worth calling and maybe you'll find a friendly ear. If you're attending a wedding on the grounds, my advice would be to stay elsewhere. It's likely that much of your day/s will be taken up by wedding activities on the island and you'd get to take part in those whether or not you were staying at the hotel. So, stay in a local rental or at one of the hotels which are a bit further aflung and avoid the three night minimum and outrageous costs that The Sagamore is charging for middle-of-the-road or worse rooms.

Our food came out with a pretty big gap between plates, I was finished with mine by the time another in our party got hers. I will say they were very gracious seeing as we were a half hour late. Food: Pretty underwhelming, you could get similar or better food at your local diner. Menu is somewhat limited as well especially for sides and drinks. I got the french toast, it wasn't very moist at all, uninteresting flavor, the strawberry garnish was dried up on the inside so must have been left out for a while, bacon was fine, maple syrup was good. I had a few bites of the omelette which was good and home fries which were on the dry side and without much flavor. Value: It wasn't too expensive thankfully despite being marketed as a 'fine dining experience' I'd say value was about even with the low quality food, french toast was $11.
