We came here over the fourth of July weekend. That is one of Kings Beach's busiest seasons. We rented one kayak and one stand up paddle board for an hour. They have dry bags for rent and so we rented one for our clothes and phones. This shop sells apparel, sunglasses, accessories, and sunglasses. I didn't see anything I really liked but my girlfriend got a baseball cap from here. Since there were a lot of people here, the experience felt rushed and unorganized but I think it was given the holiday season so we remained patience and go with the flow. We had to check in and check out at the counter and then wait for someone to show us our rentals. I later went on Amazon and bought an inflatable two person kayak for $60 and so while I won't be throwing money away on rentals anymore, Adrift was a fine establishment. read more

MAKE TAHOE GREAT AGAIN!!!! I decided to purchase 4 Groupons for this place. I called in to confirm whether or not I could use them that day. The individual on the phone said yes and nothing else. I admit that because the shop was closing, there wasn't enough time for us to go paddle boarding that day. So, I asked if I could use them for another time (Groupon AD does not specify which dates you have to use them) and they tell me that they actually are not accepting Groupons anymore and don't know how to remove their advertisement. I asked if there was anything the shop could do about the money I had already spent, and the cashier said No :). Horrible customer service. let's not shame/not help people that bought a freaking Groupon to your establishment. read more

Marcus and Hyun run a laid-back kayak and paddleboard rental shop, and they helped make our anniversary weekend truly special. While kayaking through crystal-clear waters with my girlfriend, I accidentally dropped my phone in the lake. When we returned the gear and mentioned it, Marcus immediately offered to help--no hesitation. He paddled back out with me and spent nearly an hour searching, even as it got dark. Though we didn't find it, his effort spoke volumes. The next day, despite choppy conditions, Marcus and Hyun were still willing to help. We had a great time paddle boarding and kayaking this morning/afternoon. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. One of my kids is autistic and I wasn't sure how he'd do. The staff recommended a double kayak and it was perfect. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to paddle both of us (petite mom and my autistic kiddo is 17 years old and 155 lbs.) But, I was assured we'd be ok and we were more than okay! We had the best time and made it down past Speed Boat Beach. Thanks Adrift Tahoe, your staff this morning was the BEST! Brought my kids kayaking for their first time. One of them is autistic with sensory stuff. Folks in the shop were really kind, and answered a lot of questions my kids had (they noticed one of those topography maps of Lake Tahoe that shows elevation/depth of the lake etc). Brought the boats out for us, told us of some sights to see and where to go, told my kids landmarks to look for so they knew how to come back. Didn't feel rushed at all, and they answered all our questions (my kids had a lot, and not just about kayaking but facts about Lake Tahoe in general and the history of it and science facts etc lol) We will be back! read more

Shout out to Austin who helped us find the perfect boards for us. He let us demo two different boards that we had narrowed it down to and then suggested another board for my husband. It turned it to be the best board for him. There was no pressure to buy the boards, and when I explained that I wanted to give another helpful shop some business, too, he totally understood. We ended up putting a deposit down on one of their store-named boards. So excited for our new SUPs! UPDATE: June 2019 - almost three years later- My husband's board had a defect that was causing it to crack and delaminate. He called Marcus, the owner, sometime during the winter, and Marcus asked my husband to call him when the shop opened back up for the summer season. Long story, short - my husband ended up driving to Tahoe from the Bay Area yesterday to exchange his board for a new one. It's not the same board, but it's the best Marcus could do. My husband loved the board that he had, but he's really happy that this season he will have a board that isn't cracked and whistling as we paddle. Please, please, please! Keep these guys in business! Rent from them; buy from them! They have been nothing but helpful and honest and great about this experience. On a side note, parking isn't great, and my someone cracked the big guard on our SUV as they were walking past with something that caught on it. Located right on Kings State Beach is this cute little paddle board, canoe and kayak shop. The owner is super friendly and you can tell he loves what he does. He is from the Bay Area which was an easy bond to connect over because those from the Bay love to talk about the Bay. Well if I am recalling correctly he got his college degree in business and was working in the field but hated the grind and retreated to Kings Beach to open up Adrift Tahoe. We are so glad he did because we have made it a habit to pop by and rent some kayaks to explore the lake every visit. It is a short walk from Adrift Tahoe to the water line but they have great customer service and will carry your kayaks to the water for you. Great place. We came here on Wednesday to rent a kayak but the guy said they didn't have any left and weren't going to have any for the ready of the day, not super friendly. We came back today (Friday) and it was pretty busy and there wasn't anything available when we got there but we were lucky that someone had pulled in shortly after and were able to get a double kayak. Happened upon this establishment after finding them via groupon. Me and my friend wanted to paddleboard, and they had a deal for two with the use of 2.5 hrs of paddleboard with tour. Unfortunately, they only do tour at 8am when the wake is calmer. We opted for no tour guide, kept to the shore and had a blast. We took a couple falls but the water was nice. They have the best selection of paddleboards! I hate when the rental gives you you some super old and cheap boards. I am intermediate level and they gave me really good board that cost $2K as a brand new and mine was barely used. Guys there are super nice and even give you tips on how to paddle if it is your first time. Location is super convenient (only 1 minute walk from the beach). I can see why everyone gave this place such a fantastic rating because it truly is one of the more awesome places I've rented from! We arrived a little bit late on 4th of July and this place was still popping. I was pretty happy to see that they were open and it was nice that their rental prices are so reasonable! We ended up with a few two person kayaks and single kayaks and went out on the water. The staff was very friendly, super helpful and just overall very cool people. We had a great time kayaking! Went to rent kayaks last Sunday about 9:30ish with 3 teenagers. Staff were super friendly and laid back. Paid $10 for all day kings beach parking. Get there around 8:00am and pick your spot. Staff helped us move the kayaks to the beach. Renting was sooo easy. They also have a big metal bucket at back of store to rinse off your feet when you get back and pay. Best locals place to rent kayaks or paddleboards. Prices reasonable. And yes ladies, they do have a bathrooom. Sunday is fun day! read more

First off, this place has a BATHROOM! That was great because I was looking for a bathroom not in the portapotties and found it here. Secondly, the staff is extremely friendly and down-to-earth. Everyone was very helpful, informative, and just memorable! Thirdly, great prices! My friend and I got a double kayak for $35/hr. The staff took the kayaks down with us to the bay, so that might require us to wait, but we were able to take it back up. After it taking it back up, I think we were capable of taking it down, so now we know for next time! They're all very hard-working so if you're physically capable, I'd take that extra few minutes to take it down/up by yourself for the good karma. read more

Got to Adrift around 10:00am on Sunday for my first time on a paddleboard. Have been kayaking for years and thought it would be a good time to try something new. They had plenty of boards to meet the customer demand and plenty of employees to help out. Got fitted for our boards and had a quick intro before heading out on the water. We had a blast on our excursion and spent a bunch of time getting used to balance. Water and scenery was awesome and the overall experience was great. We love Adrift! Having grown up on Southern California beaches, its relaxed beach-vibe makes me feel right at home. We've rented there for two years and when it came time to invest in an SUP board I knew I'd be in good hands at Adrift. They allowed me to demo several boards to be sure I got what would fit my needs perfectly. Their recommendations were on spot. I just learned they have a very chill, fun and friendly race every Thursday evening. They are located right on the beach with their own sandy hang-out complete with tables and chairs just in front of their shop. The large parking lot adjacent to it makes their location even more convenient. Great boards, reasonable retail prices, and any goodies (dry bags, rash guard, swim shorts, chums) that you may have forgotten. The clean bathroom provided to customers is a big plus too! The staff are happy to carry your equipment down for you and give you a tutorial if you need one. PFD's are provided as well, and they are able to accommodate children with smaller boards, paddles and vests. I recommend purchasing a frequent paddler card which drops the rate from $20/hr to $15. read more

We were staying in Carnelian Bay and agreed getting in the car and driving to Kings Beach was our best bet. After trying one place and saying they were getting ready to close, Adrift Tahoe accommodated our party of five with no notice. They were so friendly and helpful I couldn't help write a review. It was also one of my favorite moments of our trip. Paddle boarding when the sun is going down in Tahoe.....doesn't get much better. Now I can check this off my bucket list. Cool place with really chill guys. I went stand up paddle boarding for the first time on Lake Tahoe; and it was really easy and quick from the time I walked into Adrift until I was out in the middle of Lake Tahoe. Okay, maybe not the middle of Lake Tahoe, but I was out there and I felt pretty comfortable on my board. Only downside was that Adrift is not right on the beach so helping my sister and a friend drag their kayak out to the water was a bit of a workout. Other than that, it was really easy to get out on the lake and returning everything after. If you're hanging at King's Beach, take a S.U.P. board out. It is pretty relaxing. read more

I was so excited to come to Adrift after reading so many great reviews! I really wanted to try kayaking for the first time and at Lake Tahoe to boot! My first time there, too (with my family). But, alas, as we pulled up and didn't see lights on and no cars in the parking lot, I was bummed! I called beforehand (about a week or two) and had asked about availability in October, since we had never been there before, and especially in the Autumn. I was told that, yes, they would still be renting them out and just to drop in. I wasn't told of their schedule of renting only on Fri./Sat./Sun. (we were there on Tues. 10/9/12). We called before heading over, but no one picked up and there was no outgoing message. We thought maybe it was a one-man show, this late in the season, and that someone was outside, helping a customer (?). Oh, well, now we know. I have to admit, I really didn't look too closely at their website for their Autumn schedule, so it might be there. But, it should have been mentioned when I spoke with someone, before we left home. We'll try again, for sure, the next time we're at Tahoe! read more
