Fun & safe for all age levels, a series of small rapids at the end to provide some excitement. We got stucked on rocks twice, took a little effort to free ourselves. We boarded the rafts directly behind the office, staff were nice college kids. The ride was 90% chill mix in with 10% of excitement as our craft stranded on rocks, twice. There are many places u can stop for snack break, feed the duck or to skinny dip. A few small but tricky rapids along the way, we saw other rafts stranded on rocks. The end was our fav part. Management really needs to improve their communication and customer service. I needed to remove one person from my reservation, which should have been a simple request, but it ended up taking three days of back-and-forth communication to resolve. Throughout the process, I was repeatedly directed from one company to the other, with each company telling me to contact the other instead of taking responsibility. It was extremely frustrating, time-consuming, and inconvenient. What made the experience even worse was the difference in how the two companies treated us. The other company was much friendlier, more helpful, and genuinely seemed interested in resolving the issue. In contrast, this company's staff came across as rude and dismissive, and they continually redirected us elsewhere even though our original booking was made through them. Overall, the lack of accountability and poor customer service left a very negative impression. Based on my experience, I would recommend booking with the other company instead. They were far more professional, responsive, and pleasant to work with throughout the process. read more

Such great fun! Staff is helpful, friendly, and the ride is a blast--very chill and family and beginner friendly. Plenty of little rest stops along the way to dip your feet in the water, take a restroom break, or snap photos. Only drawback is that photos aren't a complimentary part of your experience. My friend saw a reel about river rafting in Truckee and we decided to try it out when we got there. This was the only place that popped up when I searched and there were only two morning spots available for our date. We booked the 9:30am online. We arrived the next morning and accidentally went to the competitor next door (extremely similarly named) and were directed to the correct entrance. After parking and checking in they told us we had until 4pm to get off the river. Whoo hoo! We got our life jackets and paddles, jumped on the raft and began our 5 hour journey down the beautiful Truckee River. Most of the ride was very shallow, calm, and serene. We stopped and wadded/swam in the river a few times. There were some bumpy fast portions and my husband fell off during a fast rapid when we accidentally rammed into another raft that was stuck. He ended up hitch hiking into their raft since we couldn't stop ours. This is a very popular activity. Lots and lots of rafts as the day progressed. Bring water shoes as it is rocky. There are portable toilets every mile mark. Journey is approximately 4 miles long. Raft easily fit the 8 of us. Quick shuttle back to check in point. Highly recommend river rafting here. $72/adult $40/kids. Paying premium price for a very memorable experience. read more

Safe rafting experience down about 4 miles of the Truckee River with some slight rapids at a few points. River is at most a few feet deep along the way. Safe for children too. This company is family owned been doing this for fifty years and while tickets are not inexpensive ($72 per adult) they do have the experience all ironed out so that it proceeds smoothly. You may bring what you like and they'll give you a large plastic garbage bag to keep everything safe but really all you need is water, also some food to stop and eat along the way, and your phone for pictures. Footwear recommended but not really needed. You will need to use the supplied plastic oars regularly to guide the raft so wear gloves if your hands are sensitive. Can get a little crowded on the river on busier weekends. A shuttle bus will bring you back to the starting point at the end of the approximately 3 hour rafting trip. I have gone rafting with TRR twice now. Once about ten years ago with a small group of friends and more recently with family including my little kids. It can be as leisurely as you like, and if you really hustle can get from start to end in a little under two hours. The rapids are manageable if you do a bit of steering to avoid getting hung up on the rocks; both times I've gone the water is just barely flowing over in some places. (Never any danger of tipping.) There are quite a few spot to stop along the way on the shore, and also two pitstops with porta potties and garbage cans. Despite following the highway most of the trip is very quiet and tranquil. We spotted a couple of fish (and one having-no-luck fisherman), Canadian geese with their babies, and lots of momma ducks with ducklings! As others point out, it can be a bit spendy, but for a once in a while thing -- and particularly if you make a day or half-day out of it -- I think it's worth the price. read more

What a fun adventure for the family!!! We tried river rafting last year for the first time with our family of 4. The kids so much fun! This year we traversed the river again with the kiddos 5 & 7, and included our mother in law this year. Once again everyone had the best time. We stopped a few times to play in the water, floated along (ran into a few rocks and trees, which the kids loved, and paddled our way to the end! One word, fun. I'm not sure floating down the river is worth $260 for 4 people, I've spent nearly the same for white water rafting with a guide for 4, but nonetheless this is expensive as heck Tahoe. The people working are extremely friendly as you pull into the parking lot they guide and direct you. Then you go to the table and sign your waivers and head down to the river to jump in your big blue raft. It's a very well oiled machine and on a busy day I can't imagine how much dough they are pulling in, it's got to be solid. And good for them well deserved on the business they have built. You get to roll down the river and have fun I noticed a lot of people drinking beers or white claws. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were in the water by 10 AM so it wasn't too hot but make sure you wear your hat and sunscreen as there isn't much shade. You can take as long as you want floating down about an hour and a half float we stopped for a little while and took pictures but I noticed quite a few people stopped and had lunch along the way extending their time and making more of a day out of it. All in all would I spend that much money to float down the river again and the answer is definitely no but for all you tourist visiting Lake Tahoe it's a fun experience for the whole family. read more

One word... AMAZING! This was my first time rafting and I'm so glad I went. It was a party of 4 for the raft exploration and we had a total blast! Water, music, snacks, and drinks! My kind of party. I'm not really a water sport explorer but I definitely want to give this a go again. We started off by parking our vehicles which was easy to do. My friend and I ended up in the overflow lot because it was a pretty busy day. No sweat though... they had a shuttle for us to take to and from the lot. Talk about luxury service! We got the chance to wait for the shuttle with our awesome lot attendant Trevor who was such a sweetheart and welcomed us on our first rafting experience. The raft ride itself was about 3-4 hours total. My group and I learned how to steer the raft as we rode the currents, or shall I stay learn how to get bullied by the water. Then we got to just ride the water and relax. The view is beautiful as the river is surrounded by many trees, mountains, waterfront houses, ducks, and more. Once you get going it just gets better along the ride. The only down fall is the ending where you reach the rapids which is not the best grand finale we were all hoping for. It was pretty rough and we ended up with a person overboard. Thank God she was okay because the rocks could have messed her up badly. I suggest helmets along with the life jackets for extra PPE to ensure folks stay safe. Overall, this was great and I'll be finding my way back next summer! read more

To start, I should mention that rafting down the Truckee river has been an aspiration of mine since I was a kid, and this experience did not disappoint. I finally went with a few friends this past summer and it was incredible! We spent probably five hours leisurely making our way down the river, accompanied by drinks, sunshine, a bluetooth speaker (thankfully, waterproof), and other people just looking to have a good time. We all loved the experience of floating along and stopping occasionally for a splash to cool off after basking in the sunshine. There were plenty of great places to stop along the way down, and everyone (employees and other rafters) was friendly and having fun. The only drawback is the parking situation that was initially confusing (after passing River Ranch on the right, drive another 0.25 miles and turn left to access parking and get on the shuttle). Ultimately, I would still (and have already) hands down recommend this experience to anyone over the age of four. Dogs are allowed, the water is never too deep, and the worst part is some rocks and ripples at the end. Book your slot for early in the day (9-10) to take advantage of as much time on the water as possible. And don't miss this bucket-list-worthy experience if you're in Truckee between May and September! read more

We have been rafting here many times, and have always had a blast. Always a great day trip and experience with the family. However, our visit today was somewhat different at the end, hence the lower rating. At the area where the crew loads rafts to return them upstream, one of the drivers was backing into the raft pickup area quickly and not paying attention, almost striking a young lady. The young lady's husband (definitely calmer than I would have) approached the driver and said that he almost hit his wife. The driver proceeded to tell the customer to "F" Off and if the customer didn't move, he would head butt this customer. Immediately the employee of TRR struck the customer in the face with his forehead making his face bleed instantly. Not one employee checked on the customer or offered any sort of first aid. As I discussed with the TRR Team, I was not confident that the situation would be addressed properly, hence my review to bring awareness of the lack of customer care from the TRR Team. MY FAVORITE TAHOE ACTIVITY. Seriously, look at these reviews, they speak for themselves. 5-star after 5-star when they really deserve 6. Visited Tahoe for the first time the second week of July and on the recommendation of a co-worker decided to raft the Truckee River. WOW. It was our favorite activity from the entire trip. **TIP** (and this has nothing to do with the business) but if you are new to Tahoe, please factor in the amount of time it takes to get from one area to another. Tahoe is MASSIVE, nearly 70 miles shore to shore. We stayed in South Lake Tahoe near the casinos and didn't factor in the amount of time it would take to get to the West Shore where Truckee is. Casually strolling out of the hotel at 9AM when we have reservations at 930AM #omgembarrassing !! (It took an hour and 15 minutes to reach the destination! SILLY US.) Anyway, the staff were more than accommodating and even parked our car for us. Great service. Everyone was friendly, and it was super cheap. They even let you bring your dogs along and my sweet baby had the time of his life! Pack a cooler and a lunch and have a picnic along the way. I PROMISE you wont be disappointed! Cheers! read more

I've tuned the Truckee from Tahoe City to River Ranch dozens of times, but I've never done it in the bougie comfort of the big blue rafts... until now! Truckee River Rafting makes this awesome activity a breeze, with easy check in, quick transit from the staffed parking lot to the drop in point and back at the end, well maintained equipment, and super friendly staff. The instructions say to arrive 30 min before your launch time and that allows you time to unload, park, sunscreen up, and load in the raft to hit the River. We took our 3 year old with us and he had a blast. The boat was secure and the River conditions were perfect for taking him on his first float. No fast water to speak of until the end, and even then, it was easily navigable and of no concern. I noticed other people who brought their dogs in the rafts which I thought was pretty cool. Even though you're rafting with a company, the experience is still yours to create once you're on the water. There's no guide in your boat, no staff on the rivers, and no one telling you to hurry up and get to the end. You control your adventure. Stopping when you want, swimming where you want, moving along as fast as you want etc. The experience is yours and yours alone. So why four stars? I get there's costs you can't see in an experience like this (insurance, overhead, transpo etc) but $60/pp, whether you're solo or with a group, is pretty steep. I can see how that pricing averages across all groups to allow everyone to get in their own boat, but I still think it feels pricey and think there should be an option that caps the cost of an entire raft offered. Having had this experience I can appreciate how the effort it takes to DIY this experience may make you appreciate the activity a bit more too. At the same time I can also see how all that effort can kinda take away from the experience as a whole and would love to do it this way again soon. read more

Fun for all ages. If you are planning a trip to the Tahoe area this is a must do. I have been rafting the Truckee River for over 40 years with both groups of friends and family (including children as young as 2). The River is a slow pace that will allow you to float casually in about three hours including stops. Takes very little knowledge on how to paddle and you should be able to navigate around any light brush or rocks with ease. Pack a soft cooler with snack and drink to make a day of it. I don't suggest bringing towels or anything that you don't want to get wet. Zip lock bag for keys and wallet should do it. The fun isn't over when the River ends. Grab a drink and nachos from the River Ranch patio and hang out in the sun or watch some of the less skilled boaters make their way down the final stretch. Had a horrible experience with the staff at the end of the river run 8/23. As I was taking my raft out of the river and staff member (yellow vest, mid 30s?) came up very aggressively saying I had to get out of their "area" (there is one small area to get out the river and I was utilizing the only open spot). I told him he was being very aggressive and told him I would grab my friend and we would get my raft up to our car right away. Came back no more then 10 seconds later and he had pushed my raft and my entire parties gear back into river floating toward the rapids below River Ranch. Luckily a bystander nearby already in the river caught it and brought it back. My party approached the staff member and I asked him multiple times to make it right and apologize and grab my kayak out of the river and which he just looked away. Multiple bystanders approached their staff to also let them know how wrong it was. I would suggest never using such a company which such awful staff members. As a operations manager at a resort in the Tahoe basin I would be embarrassed to have one of my staff members act this way and I hope this this situation was addressed appropriately. read more

Based on a referral from a forum we reserved a rafting experience for our family of four- two adults and two teens. The river is perfect in that its slower moving for most of the trip. The water was great to stop and wade in along the shoreline. The day was perfect! Would highly recommend and would do it all over again the next time we are in the area in the summer! read more

Such a great experience! We took our 6 & 9 year old boys and they loved it. We were on the water for about 2.5 hours, but you can float or paddle at your own pace. We stopped a few times to go swimming & feed the boys lunch (we took a soft zip close cooler). All of the employees were so friendly & helpful - literally every single employee we encountered was awesome!!!! The entire process was smooth & easy. We parked in their reserved parking lot, a van drove us to check-in, we signed our waivers & were given wristbands & a ticket, we walked to the dock & they got us our life vests & helped us load up the raft. At the end of the rafting trip they helped us out of the raft & the bus took us back to our car. No waiting around, they have this entire process perfected. The water was so beautiful. Very clean & we felt safe the whole trip. We plan on making this an annual adventure! read more

We had a great time! There are two rafting companies side by side so we pulled into the wrong parking lot first, so just make sure you double check which one you reserved with. Leisurely raft down the Truckee River. We stopped a few times for the kids to get out and swim around so it took about 2.5 hours. Light, mini rapids added some fun to it! Checking in and getting on the raft went very quickly and we only had to wait maybe 5 min at the end to catch the bus back so it was a very streamlined and easy process. They do take your pic in the beginning and it was $20 to purchase at the end, which we did. read more

It was super fun and they had amazing staff, especially Austin who saved 8 lives. They say it was a very mellow ride but don't be fooled you will get stuck in the rapids. I wouldn't recommend having more than 6 people in a raft. We got stuck on a rock and our raft ended up flooding at the end of the journey and Austin ran quickly to come help us out. Had a great time floating down the river! We made online reservations to confirm our launch time, read the FAQ's, and we were good to go! Once we were in the parking lot, I think we waited 3 minutes for the shuttle. Everyone got a squirt of Purell before getting on the shuttle and masks are enforced. Once we got to the launch site, there was a few people in line but everything moved quickly. The staff that signed us in and gave us our wristbands we're so friendly and pointed out where to head next. It's an easy walk down a driveway (following foot prints on the asphalt) and there are signs pointing to restrooms. We did get a little unsure of things when we were at the unofficial launch site. A young man took our name and confirmed the number of people in our party, and then yelled to another man so he could get our raft ready. At this point, the first man has walked back to an employee seating area but has said nothing more to us. So we stood there. And stood there. And then walked over to man #1 to ask if they were ready for us to walk to the dock. He didn't even look at us. He just gave us a "Yah" and went back to his conversation with his coworkers. Thanks buddy. :/ At the dock, they stabilize the raft as much as possible to let you climb in and also tell you what you can expect. You get life jackets and a plastic bag to keep your personal items dry, and then you're off! There's no time limit and you can just enjoy a leisurely float. We did get stuck in a few reeds but we could easily push off with our oars. There are shallow areas and deep areas and a few beachy type spots as well. The very last part does have some rapids so when you hit those, you know to start looking towards the right bank for the end point. Once you're out of the raft, you have a short walk to the shuttle area where you're driven back to the parking lot. Don't take off your wristband! It's required if you want to get on the shuttle. I'm appalled that I waited fourteen years before rafting the Truckee, but when I did it, I'm glad I did it with this company. They're friendly and seemingly casual, but the smoothness of the operation shows a lot of professionalism. I also liked their pandemic protocols (lots of masks and sanitizer). If you go, be sure to pack a soft cooler with drinks and food, since it'll take about three hours if you take your time--and with the swimming holes along the way, you'll want to take your time. If you're not good at steering or paddling a raft, you might want to find out the basics. However, have no fear: our party was terrible at this, and if we and the rafts made it to the end after all the rocks we ran into, anyone can. Tip 1: when they say to go to the yellow flags for check-in, be sure you go to the second place on the right. Another company has a giant banner that says their overflow parking is at 2200 River Road. Tip 2: be sure to put on your life jacket once you come to the final rapids--they were a bit quicker than we thought. And they were *awesome.* read more
