The install was a little expensive but so worth it. My life is way easier with everything automated. I've been able to monitor my home via cameras on vacation, change the thermostat or set a schedule, disarm/unlock the door for a house sitter, get notifications of when they arrive and leave, and so much more. Without it I'm in the dark while away. My alarm does what it's supposed to do. I've only had a problem paying my bill online, however a quick phone call fixes that. I've had techs come back out and install new equipment and fix one issue. Always easy and fast. Of course the appointment Windows suck, but what companies doesn't? read more

I received terrible customer service from ADT, as well as paying what I think were gross overcharges for their services. I repeatedly informed them I was cancelling my service after about the third rate increase in a couple of years. Yet they refused to acknowledge my request and kept charging me. Other companies charge much less, do not consistently raise rates like ADT, and have much better customer service and much fairer security pricing. I would never recommend ADT to anyone and would give a zero star rating if possible! read more

Just installed an ADT security system. Yesterday the back door was in "fault" mode and wouldn't reset on the control panel in until I opened the sensor and then it went into tamper mode. That seemed to fix that problem. Today, the alarm went off at the front door and they ended up calling the cops. "False alarm", when I tried calling the number they gave me, I got the message that the offices were closed and I should try via e-mail. Went to the website and selected from the drop down menu. It said if your alarm has gone off, select "other" from the drop down menu. THERE IS NO "OTHER" ON THE DROP DOWN MENU. Called another number and the customer service person is telling me to enter my code and hit reset. THERE IS NO RESET SELECTION! I had to hang up because Letitia stopped talking to me. Customers beware! If you call them to cancel your service get confirmation in writing!! After several years of service with them I notified them last year to cancel my account by phone with one of their customer service reps. and certainly assumed my account was closed. Then a month later I received an evening request for payment from yet another rep whose name I documented,and restated " I had closed my account" and no balance was due! Now this should have done it right? Not so!! because after the 1st of the New Year I received yet another call telling me my account was closed for non-payment! I was threatened with collection unless I paid an outrageous balance. I requested they replay my cancellation calls but was told they could not go back that far! Really!! I even e-mailed the above cancellation information to an address they provided. Spent over an hour yesterday with various ADT reps at different levels with nasty attitudes and still no resolve! How dare they turn me over to a collection agency over- billing a frivolous amount due! Beware of ADT. There are too many other excellent home security options on the market. read more

I wish I had never signed up. I've been working with one of their authorized providers-Defenders. Customer service is terrible. Each time I deal with them on the phone I get passed from person to person, no one able to resolve issues. They always say "I'm making a note of this in your account" but oddly the next person I talk to has no clue about these notes. Issues take months to get resolved. Some issues don't get resolved at all. For just one example...I have been getting over charged from the start (just one of the issues so far) and when they couldn't correct my bill I asked to cancel my service. This seemed reasonable to me since they had already breached the contract. However, I was told if I canceled they would charge my credit card $1600 since I would be the one breaking contract. Still yet to see a bill with the rate given to me in my contract. ADT is suppose to keep me safe in my home, but I feel like I've already let the robbers in.p read more

If I could share 0 stars I would! PLEASE, don't use ADT for your security services. I was sold an alarm contract for a home in Wash Park that I was renting for 1 year. What their so-called "salesman" didn't tell me was the contract was for 3 YEARS! When I moved out of the house ADT then informed me I owed over $1000.00 in one lump sum to pay off the 3 year contract. I told them I was more than willing to pay the one year that my house lease was for (Why would I buy a 3 yr contract when my lease was for a year?!) because that is what the salesman led me to believe. They said "Too bad, you signed it". Then they went to my bank card that was on file, it was not auto-pay, it was strictly on file because I had used it for previous payments, and deducted the final payment WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! They are crooks, they have underhanded salespeople, and they should not be in business. Go with any other company other than ADT! read more

You will regret having ADT for an alarm. I have had an alarm for years. They forced me into a contract at my new house. Now I have to move and they are trying to hold me to a three year contract. They said I would have to pay $800 to cancel. When, I said don't want that option, they said that it would affect my credit. I've never had customer service threaten me before. Then they tried blackmailing me by stating the only way to get out of that is to continue service at my new address. When they found out that my new place is an apartment that doesn't allow alarms they said too bad. I cant imagine anyone would want this service knowing what they were getting into. I had the company Defenders install my system. They were misleading and stated that I could get out of this contract. read more

I purchased a security system and service from ADT in January 2017. The system had a major malfunction early April, resulting in the siren emitting for nearly an hour and being unable to turn it off, ultimately rendering it totally nonfunctional. Despite multiple requests to have a technician sent to my house to fix the system immediately, my request was refused by ADT and their authorized dealer and I was told that emergency service for such issues was not available to me and I could only have a service technician visit via scheduling an appointment, which was not available for multiple days. ADT granted me an early release of contract without penalties due to the severity of this issue, however, their authorized dealer refuses to follow suit and I recently received a letter from them stating that my account is going to their internal collections department. I would like to report this as a fraudulent business practice by ADT and their dealers to provide service according to their contracts and refusing to provide early penalty free releases when they refuse to provide service to their customers. read more

I was assured they would. They neglected to say it would take 3 weeks to refund the money. "We care about you" is their opening line when waiting on terminal hold. I've had ADT for the past 3 years, and the rate goes up every year without fail, even in a bad economy, so now we're paying over $35 per month and only now can we finally cancel our contract after 3 years without an insane penalty. Recently while we were on vacation out of the country, I checked my phone messages to hear "This is ADT. Your alarm system has been tripped. The police have NOT been notified". Really?! You can see thousands of reviews like this if you search the net for ADT. Their aggressive sales people will sign you up with what sounds like a great deal, but that includes 2 doors and no windows, and the worst equipment on the market. I've heard others were given upgrade options to include smoke alarm monitoring, windows, etc but our sales people were so bad they didn't even try, and I'm glad because now I have more to spend on a self-monitoring system that will call me and a neighbor automatically so WE can call the police, and not have to pay $35+ per month. read more

Upon purchasing our new home with a current ADT system we contacted them to check out the system. Jeff the security specialist came to our home and looked at what we had and said we could work with it and we added a few things. No pressure sales. He was able to arrange the install exactly when we needed them and Brian was incredible. Not only did we discuss where we wanted to put the hardware he also fixed our garage door at no charge! When we wanted to change the code again all it took was one phone call to Jeff and he walked us thru it over the phone even though it wasn't his job! The convenience of being able to monitor everything from my phone is awesome! read more

Please, please do not consider using ADT. We have had repeated problems with them. Our system is constantly having system errors or the alarms goes off for no reason. As the previous reviews say they are great at apologizing but awful at fixing the problem. Appointments for a technician to come out take 2-3 weeks while you are still paying for a security system that doesn't work. I guess the long wait for technicians indicates the amount of problems their customers are continuing to have. I am on the phone with technical support on a weekly almost twice a week basis. They also do not buy back equipment so you are stuck with a very expensive system that does not work. I wish I had not chosen ADT but I am stuck with them due to the crazy amount I spent on my equipment. I guess I will have to deal with faulty equipment and hope my house does not get broken into. You still have the option not to, so please, take this review critically and chose another company for your security system. I sent in a cancellation letter. Got it back & it said I could not cancel unless it was in the 90 days of the end of the contract & the cancellation penalty would be 75% of the remaining balance. I told them the one page contract I signed says 30 days. Since the installer never gave me a complete contract & is now out of business, I filed a complaint with FCC & BBB. Not giving me a complete contract & two copies of the offer to cancel negates their 75% penalty. Emails to them & phone calls were a waste of time. My in box became filled with offers to sign up for service. In the meantime I switched from a credit card payment to my bank bill payer so I could control each months payment. At the end of the contract I will delete them from my bill payer. P.S. It's really easy to do an FCC & BBB filing on line. You can do better then this outfit. read more

ADT is one of the most unrepeatable companies that I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with. ADT has owed us a credit of $209.11 since July of 2014. We have sent letters, documentation, and called them numerous times over the past year to resolve this. They ignored us every time! However, they continued to bill us. Then they cancelled our service in February of 2015 because we refused to pay them any longer until they issued us a credit for the $209.11. So ADT sent us a final bill of $201.11 in March of 2015, which was still less than they owed us for the $209.11 credit that they never issued. Then ADT cancelled our service and charged us a $770.60 in cancellation fees. Then they started making our alarm system go off in the middle of the night. We had to disconnect wirelessly from them so they could not get into our alarm system to communicate with it. Once we did that, it stopped going off in the night, even though it still had power. This proved to us that ADT was indeed purposely making our system go off in the night, which I find unbelievable! They owe us money!!!! If you google ADT and type in "ADT Class Action Lawsuit," you will see that there are several class action lawsuits against ADT for charging customers outrageous cancellation fees. This company is just plain unethical. It is so sad that a company that is supposed to be providing individuals with protection from criminals, is the one that is stealing from them. read more

I installed this system four years ago. I worked well until we had a flood at the end of 2014. The flood filled our basement and affected all our electrical in our home. The security system discontinued working at that time. I tried several times to speak to the ADT person to explain to them the problem. They kept telling me it was a phone problem. I had the phone company come out--no problem. After many hours of troubleshooting and several phone calls, I just gave up. We wound up renting our house and I called to disconnect service--the service that was NOT working. Went round and round again about the service and customer support being so poor. Now, I get a final bill and I am charged for a 30 day disconnect. They say "in the contract" it states that they can charge me for 30 days. I again complained that the service was NOT working!! The woman on the line was very rude and totally lacked the ability to see from a customer perspective. I paid the bill but will NEVER go with them again or recommend these "security" company to anyone. Stay AWAY!! read more

After having windows replaced we asked ADT to come out to install sensors on the new windows. We discovered that they'd left without installing a sensor on one of the windows - they just left the pieces of the sensor sitting on the window sill. The next day I asked them to come out right away to get that sensor installed since not having it left a garden-level window unprotected. The service group said they couldn't get anyone out before the second week in November! Keep in mind that I paid actual money for the service call yet ADT is willing to leave me unprotected for weeks. They did offer me an off-hours visit but I'd have to pay an overtime fee - - all for a mistake ADT made, not me. We will be looking at ADT's competitors for options. read more

We've been customers for 13 years. Just sold our house. Tried to cancel. Can't cancel online. After 30 minutes on the phone on hold listening to ADT propaganda about how great they are, how valuable customers are and how they value our time (then don't leave us on hold for 30 min!!!!), I was finally able to cancel but a very rude and argumentative "customer service" rep told me that I had to give 30 days notice. This is one of the worst companies I have ever come across. I don't write reviews often, especially negative ones. This is bad. Stay away. I saw all the bad reviews, but the ADT guy showed up on my doorstep, was extremely persistent and convincing, promising the world. I gave in. He spent hours here putting everything in, and then tried to charge me over $8,000. When I balked at the price and told him to take everything out, he started a long song-and-dance process where he left the house to call his manager and come back with a lower price (next $5,500, then $2,300, and eventually $1,300), all without much change in the package I was getting. He saw I lived in a nice neighborhood and tried to milk me for as much as he could. Then, when I found much better service, transparency and price elsewhere (Reliable Home Security, if you are curious), ADT made it SO hard to cancel my subscription (HOURS on the phone, becing disconnected, transferred endlessly, etc).. even though I was within the 3 day cancellation window.. I was losing sleep that I would be stuck with their horrible service. I finally managed to cancel, and now I check my credit card charges, and they still have only given me a small partial refund of what I paid. I am currently on hold with their horrible customer service, wasting more of my time on this terribly run company. Stay. Away. read more

I just cancelled my account with ADT because they straight out lied about the type of protection I was to get. When I called because of an alarm event, they informed that even though they did not tell me the truth, that I would have to pay the service fee to fix their problem. I told them that they had one chance to keep my business by fixing the issue and no cost and Customer Service said they had to charge me. When I called to cancel today, I was transferred to the "Loyalty" department. Tom reviewed my account he said he would fix the problem at no cost to me. I told him there was nothing he could do to keep my business, closed my account and am very happy with my new home security company. ADT might have been the best back in the day, but this company is over priced, has horrible customer service, and outdated equipment. I went from ADT to LiveWatch and could not believe the difference. For starters the cost was about 75% cheaper for the system, the monthly fees were lower, customer support was great, and the equipment was smaller and better. Livewatch you have to install yourself, but these days that means plugging it in and sticking the sensors on windows and doors. Check out Livewatch for sure, but either way I would suggest avoiding ADT. read more

They came to our door one evening and interrupted our dinner to "informed us of the crime spike" in our neighborhood the past few months. With us being new in the area we were naive and wanted to make sure we were as safe as possible. But this company is a scam and we were taken. All they care about is making as much money off of you as possible! We are in the process of moving back into an apartment complex which does not allow the installation of security systems in their units. We had ADT for years before we moved to our new house with no issues. Their systems worked great and they answered calls promptly on the few occasions I called with a question. HOWEVER, since moving to our new home we have had nothing but aggravation, frustration and problem after problem with our system. Not to mention in excess of 15 minute hold times, while being forced to listen to a recording about their "world-class costumer service". We were set up with a moving program when we came to our new house, and because we had been with them so long, our system and install was to be covered by ADT. A salesman came to our house and, instead of providing what would work the best in our house, I now believe he recommended we install the cheapest and easiest system for them to install. I don't even have enough time to tell you the issues we have had now going forward, and it has only been six months. Long story short- I have a completely unreliable alarm system and have had someone out here on five different occasions now, for various issues, each time having to wait two to six weeks for a technician to be available. This is in between the numerous phone calls and unending holds I have been placed on; including one particularly charming call where ADT randomly switched my billing to a yearly cycle and tried to run a $400 charge through my bank in place of my normal monthly bill. Thankfully, my bank caught the error and would not allow the charge, but I still received a lovely collection call on that one. They answered the phone right away that time, and could not give me reason number one why they switched over the billing and no assurances that it would not happen again. Of course, no way out of their contract and we just have to wait until we can finally be rid of them. They have not made my family safer and it is just insulting to have to listen to their validation of what a great company they are for minutes on end when I call. read more

ADT is without a doubt the absolute worst company I have ever been cursed to deal with! The one and only thing that matters to them is PROFIT and making as much out of each victim that makes the fatal mistake of signing up for their service. The system in my home has malfunctioned and fallen apart multiple times due to shockingly poor quality equipment and incompetent installation. The main console is huge and looks like vintage 1970's technology with the most basic features. ADT technicians have been called out to my home 4 times and the system still doesn't work properly or provide the service I PAY for! ADT claims they have a six month guarantee that dictates if your system breaks down 3 times you are allowed to be released from your insane 3 year contract. However, despite my system breaking down FOUR times, ADT claims I'm screwed. To get out of my contract otherwise I have to pay well over $1000!!!! WTF?? Even the worst cell phone companies don't charge such insane fees for leaving a contract early!!! The attitudes I've received from this horrible company are the same scripted lip service that employees are trained to give no matter the situation. ADT, don't even bother lying that "you value me as a customer" because as you can read from the dozens of negative reviews that obviously isn't the case for myself or anyone. Dan was pushy and insulting during the conversation. Then he proceeded to steal my security sign out of the front yard when it had come with the house that I had purchased. ADT has gotten too big for any sort of quality control. I have just changed companies after decades of service from them. This was the last straw I recently found out that we are paying about $10.00 a month more than everyone else I know for ADT's alarm services. I talked to one family who has even more security coverage than us due to their many windows, and when they were thinking about switching to another company, ADT's customer service department offered them many upgrades and lowered their price. However, when the technician arrived he was only prepared to provide 1/3 of the upgrades promised. It was during the week, so they were able to call the customer service person who had promised them the upgrades and get the work done. I called ADT and asked them about the price discrepancy, and they promised me the same price and same upgrades as the other families we talked to. The service person arrived on a Saturday, prepared to provide only 1/3 of the items promised by customer service. I was not able to reach the person who promised the upgrades, so the technician would not do the work promised because it wasn't on his work order. Therefore, we agreed it was best for him to leave. I never heard from ADT about the situation. For a security company to be dishonest is unacceptable to me. They promised me and others all the features they offer at a lower price, and then hope we all won't notice that the technician's orders only ask them to do a fraction of this. Even after this happened, they never bothered to call me. I have switched alarm companies and am writing about my experience to the better business bureau, Yelp, and many other locations. A copy of the letter I wrote to ADT: I am not a happy customer. We signed up for the "deal" of the free installation plus the monitoring for $46 per month. Which means the installation was amortized over the life of our commitment. When the technician came we told him we already had a system installed and we just wanted him to activate it. Without any further consultation, he completely to re out the existing system which covered all the doors and window and installed the ADT system on 4 doors. Then he told us what an inadequate system we had and it would cost $4000.00 to do it right. I declined and said I would stay with what we agreed to. He was visibly unhappy with that and told us we could do a partial job for $3000.00. I said I wanted to stay with what we agreed to do. He huffed and puffed and said, OK, I could have the $1000.00 deal. I told him no, we would stay with what we had ordered. He was most unpleasant and short with us, had us sign the papers and left. The system was faulty and chirped all the time. We had a service guy come out who was very personable and amazed at the damage the first guy had done. It took him 4 hours working on the system to declare it fixed. It wasn't. We have never been able to use it, because it gives false positive alarms all the time. When we did set it and leave home, we got a security call almost immediately. But because we were not at home, we could not verify there was a problem. We were warned within an inch of our lives about the dire consequences of having the police come when there was no break in and were we sure we wanted to alert them. We said no because we know the system chirps randomly and it was likely there was no problem. So now what are we getting for our money? Nothing! When we have called all they can tell us is we have a contract and tough luck. Do we want another repairman? So now the kicker - you raised our rates in the middle of the contract!!!! How dare you raise the rate after slapping us around with the YOU HAVE A CONTRACT every time we call. Enclosed is the latest bill you have sent us. We will not honor it because it is at a rate other than the contract agreement. Send us a bill for what you think we owe you to terminate our relationship, telling us how you computed it, and we will consider our remittance. Make sure you adjust it for recent overcharges when our bill was auto pay on our credit card. read more

I had the service for less than a year and it is a continuous battle to even get the billing right.....much less incorrect installation of the system. Four installers later it works....(I think) as it hasn't been tested but not before get this...an installer told me it wasn't working because I didn't have a phone plugged in and I have to go buy one. Then the bill goes up and they denied they had a plan with my pricing....when I pressed it they agreed there WAS a plan such as mine but it shouldn't have been sold. If I could give a negative review, I would do so. I signed up for ADT service in November - it is now February. 3 months and I already despise this company. I received a call a few weeks ago (that I wasn't able to answer). Well, I got home to a keypad that had a weird message and had just been disable. So, the representative did not even speak with me personally and the alarm was disabled. I guess they knew that no one had broken into my home?? The salesman that initially signed up our service pretty much did an upsell. He also said that if I'm unhappy with the service then I could call within 6 months and get out of the contract. He said I will have to fight it but ADT will let me out. I called customer service and spoke with the most unprofessional and disrespectful gentleman. He would NOT transfer me to a supervisor and kept twisting my words to make me sound wrong and pretty much crazy. I advised him of the situation and that I don't feel safe. He kept offering a chance for me to cancel with 75% owed. I am three months in - I just want to cancel! No way. He then offered a technician to come out. In which I responded with, how is this technician going to prevent you guys from disabling my alarm without speaking to me?? I will think it over and probably take the $1100 hit to get out of the contract and just get away from this company. It may sound good at first but I do not recommend. Pretty bad product overall. Here is the story. We signed a year contract which we felt was okay. Got the pulse, which is a very weak app. Not intuitive, clunky, half-baked. Then the problems with the system started. Middle of the night it made some strange noises. Showed "long range radio failure". Disconnected it and went to bed. Next morning called they told me it was not transmitting for some reason. So exposed. The service call was 1 week, so exposed for 1 week. They replaced the radio and charged a service fee of about 50 bucks. Okay fine. 1 week later the same noise happened before bed. Called and did troubleshooting, same problem. I asked how long it would take to get service. Another 5 days. I just cancelled since I did not want to be exposed. Ended up buying a system at Lowes so we would at least be covered. I have 2 small kids. Then I was assessed $1000 because I broke my contract. Okay, I can dispute this right? No. I called a complex set of phone numbers and spent 2 days trying to figure out what I needed to do. Write an email to corporate. I was given an email address and was told good luck. It has been a month. I even called our salesperson Chris and said to "see if you can find the legal department". Appalling. Opinion: they don't care about us, they are a very large company that bases their revenue on volume of customers nationwide. Family of 4 that just wanted security, and now we are out about 2000 bucks overall. Do not sign up, there are better options out there. read more

I arranged with the local office to pay off my ADT contract early, and paid the remainder of the contract as they stipulated. However, their main billing office continued to sweep monthly payments out of my bank account for three more months! Then when I finally got them to STOP taking money out of my account, it took another THREE months and the Better Business Bureau to get the refund of the 3 payments they should not have taken in the first place.
