WERE customers since 2004. No false alarms... In fact, never required anything of them. Last week our alarm went off at 3:20 am. Called ADT, who said our phone line was down, which is why the alarm went off. In the past, when the phone line was down, there'd be a small beep -- not a full-blown alarm. The response from the ADT rep was "there's a first time for everything". The supervisor was not any more helpful. Yes, there's a first, and last, time for everything. Protection1 on its own was great. We were so unsatisfied with ADT that we switched to Protection1 and were very happy. Then ADT bought Protection1 and all has gone to hell. I am so disappointed with them now. I've spoken to them a minimum of five times, the exact conversation and every time they say it's resolved then somebody calls me later and round and round we go. I'm so tired of having the conversation. Each time (sans one of my own scheduling mistakes) they schedule me for a four hour "window" of time that they will Come and do the repairs to our system that keep causing some of the issues (one is regarding payment). Yesterday, I stayed home, for four hours, more actually, probably close to six hours to be home for my scheduled four hour window (I was on the car phone speaker when we scheduled this last appointment and I have witnesses that know I scheduled it). I was told that the technician would call around 30 minutes before they arrived. Nobody called, nobody texted, nobody showed up.... at all. Nobody. They stood me up. Great thing is, this isn't the first time, it's almost every time. Do they actually have people working there or is this a scam? I talked to them about it this morning and the only thing I got in response was "You were never on the schedule. Sorry, but you didn't schedule anything." What?! I spent 30+ minutes on the phone just Tuesday, in the presence of two other people, SCHEDULING you to come yesterday. That's only a one day difference. Do they even respect what it takes for people to be able to take off 4+ hours from their day bc companies have such a hard time actually having scheduled times? Look, I get it, it's hard in jobs like that to set exact times, whatever... but if I'm taking off 4 or more hours for your "window" you sure as hell better show up. This has gotten beyond ridiculous. Do no waste your time or money on this company. ADT has always been a joke. Unless they can get their act together, I'm taking my business elsewhere. What was once a great company with good and quick customer service has fallen into shambles. It's shameful. read more

We get ADT solicitors knocking on our door between the hours of 6-8pm regularly. Corporate claims they must all be 3rd parties and they are not responsible for the continued trespassing. I give ADT 1 star, and will never give them a chance to earn additional stars. read more

I only wish I could give a worse review than one star, something negative. I have had the service for about a year, and realized I don't use it or want it any longer. I called to discontinue service only to be told I will have to pay 600 plus dollars to discontinue service? Their product is so good, they force people into paying for something they don't want...meanwhile I was on hold for 10 to 15 minutes before reaching a customer service agent. What a joke. My issue is with the bill. I was billed an amount almost 50% higher than the quote. Their reasoning is that the upgrade was not compatible with our current system, so they had to replace other components. I find this disturbing on several levels. Since we have been with ADT for 10 plus years, why didn't they know our system well enough to give us an accurate quote? Why didn't they discuss additional fees with us? I've talked to 3 different people at ADT. The first two were nice, but could not resolve anything. The last one was a mansplainer! Installed ADT alarm system with Fire,carbon mono,and all doors and windows recently. The contractor was Safe Haven Security. The sales agent that knocked on my door was too polite and enthusiastic. That was prob the first hint it was a pressure sale or deceptive. She lied about the insurance discount or didn't disclose that the customer needs to verify first. I did NOT get a discount from Travelers as she repeated several times. That was a big selling point. Now that I am locked in for 3 years, there is little I can do. I will be reporting it to BBB. This is a horrible security system company. My security system is broken an they have been unable to fix it for over a year, yet they continue to charge me and won't let me out of the contract. It is a scam! I recently filed a complaint with the BBB and will pursue legal action against them for charging for a service that they are not providing. Ok, here we go. I thought a home security system would be a good idea and decided to try ADT out as they seem to have the biggest brand. The initial phone call was extremely sales-pitchy, offering me the low price of $28.99/month and that I was lucky to receive a second security remote controller and the $100 installation fee was waived. Then they scheduled someone to come out to survey the house. Ok, fine, so far so good. Someone from "Defenders" came out, I was skeptical at first since his uniform didn't say ADT and they gave me the name of the gentleman coming out and this guy was someone different. The FIRST thing he did was drill two holes into my wall and install the control panel. Like, wtf? Why wouldn't you survey the house first and talk about pricing? Oh, it's because it's part of your training into getting the customer to sign with you. After the control panel installation, we surveyed the entire house and talked about pricing options. I went with five window locks, three door locks, two motion sensors, and the ADT app and he quotes me at $54.99/month and $2,000 to cover the rest of the equipment?!?! What? I told him that I was promised $28.99/month but he acted confused. So basically, I would pay $55/month for a three year contract so nearly $2,000 in total! I said that price is unacceptable and he cut out a few things and said that due to my good credit, I was saving on $1500 worth of equipment but would still need to provide $1000 for the additional equipment. I told him no and he said that it's easier for him to install it all then come back in the three day grace period, ok, that's fine, whatever, do your job and get out. I try it out for two days and realize what the ADT products actually are. They're basically magnets attached to the entry ways to your home that trigger an alarm when detached. There's no way in hell that this product is worth $55/month. I call to cancel and he comes out and we go through the whole 'sales-pitch' again and finally he uninstalls it all. I look at my credit card statement and I see the $100 initial charge then I see another $75 charge. I contact their support team and they took two weeks to refund the $100 charge and after a one month battle, I finally received the $75 refund. This entire process was painstaking, timely, and an overall headache. The thing is that if only ADT was a bit more upfront about their pricing options and process, I might have actually used ADT. But because of all of their shady 'methods', it completely turned me off towards this company. In my opinion, most security companies are probably similar for better or worse but here are my two cents on a more secure home: 1. Community: Get to know your neighbors. It's very quid pro quo, but if we look out for each other and report suspicious behavior, we will be more safe and 2. Dogs: I think a big deterrent to mischievous individuals is simply having a barking dog and optional 3. Is installing cameras or investing in a company like 'Ring'. First of all I will tell you I was an ADT customer for over 13-years. I secured 3-properties with them. So I have had a long relationship with them and I am still amazed they are voted or rated in any top 20 or 50 list! Their customer service is less than stellar. The agents can only access and see what you can on their pulse system. They have no way of resetting your system if you are not on the property and you have an alarm event so until you rest the system it's not going to signal you if there is another event. I was even told by the manager one night because I didn't like the way her agent was speaking to me to go to my vacant house across town at 10:30om to reset my system after the police had been there for a possible break in! By myself! And I am a female! They walked my son through how to shit down my entire system while I was at work and my house was left unsecured, security cameras shut off for over 4- hours. All because the agent said he had called and couldn't remember the code and the alarm kept going off!! I was floored. He had used an old security phrase and they accepted it! Also, the agents hardly ever ask for your security word. keep an eye on your end of contract date. They will give you a different date everytime you ask. If you get new equipment, your contract will start over! So make sure you don't sign new paperwork or work orders til you read all of it. They do virtual contracts for this reason. Also, did you know if your system is shut down, back up battery too, they will never know anything happened. no signal is sent no distress signals nothing! They won't know anything is happening til they look in your history! So my back up battery was in my garage and no one ever suggested alarming my garage door! Fir over 10-years! I asked so if someone shut down my system in the middle of the night, turned my power off, unhooked back up battery, they could come in my house and do whatever and ADT would not know until they checked my history? Here's the biggest travesty of all with the so-called largest security company in the world that so many people trust with their lives- if you have any kind of magnet all you have to do is set it it tape it or glue it into the sensor and the system will never know if that door or window opens! Because there is no break in the distance between the sensor and magnet. That magnet is not specific to that sensor! And out go your belongings straight out the door and it won't even be in your history! Also, When their techs show up call the company yourself, not the nunber the tech gives you, to verify who should be at your house and their description. Sounds silly but thieves rely on you not wanting to look paranoid or silly. Do it. The cameras stink and can take up to 9-min to reset after a motion event! One day I had the same clip at two different times!! Explain that one! This company has no idea what they are doing or what their agents are saying or doing. Don't trust yourself and your belongings to be secured by ADT. read more

ADT has been a good investment for our family. We've never had any breakins or issues like that, but we've also had peace of mind that we are safe. We've been using them for a few years now and only wish that we could upgrade our equipment for free when the new stuff comes out, like touch screens, etc. read more

Horrible customer service! We cancelled in November and hired a different company. Even though our contract expired long ago, they keep billing us. To get to the cancellation department, they put you on hold for well over an hour, transfer multiple times and still never follow through. I have to get my credit card company to block their merchant number to get them to stop stealing from us. Wish we could give them ZERO stars - at least I can report the transactions as fraud to credit card companies and try to get their merchant numbers blocked. read more

ADT sent an authorized dealer, Safehaven, to our home to activate our existing one year old ADT system. Safehaven claimed it didn't respond to their system and had to sell us a new (bottom of the line) system for $3000. I later learned from ADT that Safehaven only sells systems and does not activate systems! ADT is now defending this scam and supporting Safehaven. Awful untrustworthy company. read more

Im not a fan of ADT at all. We had them for 8 years and had nothing but problems. There equipment goes faulty after a couple months and they charge you to come fix it and forces you to upgrade equipment and extends your contracts. We had to shut our doors this past year and we gave our 30 days notice, to find out, ADT automatically will extend your contract every year. So be aware that for commercial that you need to cancel your contract a year in advance or you have to payout your "contract". Terrible company. read more

These people are awful. I was out of town for an extended period of time, during which time, my control panel failed, effectively disabling my alarm system. (This was an 18 month old panel which they said I had to switch to in order to upgrade a feature on my system. I never had any trouble with my 2013 panel.) The one time I REALLY needed home security system protection and ADT failed. After I returned home, it took three extended calls to tech support and two visits by a technician before they finally correctly identified the very simple issue with the panel. Also, their in-person tech support is frequently scheduling three weeks out or more. I've tried to get a refund on the time my panel was inoperative, but no one in billing can see what I'm talking about, despite the two recorded technician visits. This might be, in part, due to the fact it sounds like they've moved their call center overseas. They have a hard time understanding me and I have a hard time understanding them. I've had ADT in three house since the year 2000, and they keep getting worse in terms of equipment, service and pricing. I think they may have corporate priorities other than good service which are distracting them from the core business. Unless no one else is available in your area, do not sign a contract with ADT. read more

I'm a small business owner and called ADT for information on security systems for my business and 2 homes. I was on the phone for over one hour, the sales person ask all kinds of questions and then told me the price would be around 36 dollars, I told him that I have a coupon and it says 27 something, be said ok. Little did I know once he had all my information he needed to qualify me by running my credit, with the recent Equifax scandal I had my credit frozen. The salesperson then took my number to unfreeze my credit (I should have not given that to him) and ran my credit. The technician came the next day to my office and explained everything. Low and behold the price went up again, since it's a business. Well even after all the hassle I agreed to have the install done for Saturday 2 to 4. My manager and I waited for the installer during that time I checked my account, and guess what???? I was charged 106.92 for 3 installations that I didn't even wanted. I was upset and called ADT to find out what's going on. I told the woman answering the phone I need my money back since I only agreed to one installation. She then informed me that they overbooked for Saturday and no one would come to install, by then it was almost 4 pm and I was furious. She informed me they called my home phone, when I specifically requested to be called on my cell. SMH I told her I want my money back and they can keep the system, she connected me to a cancellation manager I was so frustrated I didn't want to hear his pitch, I told him I want my money and he had the nerve to tell me I had to wait some days. I told him they took my money without authorization, and I want my money back immediately, as they have done. I will NEVER recommend ADT to anyone , they are bad news, switching the price and they are not customer oriented. They don't deserve 1 star. read more

Avoid ADT!!! I was a 5 year loyal customer and decided to up grade my equipment to outside cameras and door bell camera. none of it worked so i asked them to remove it. They tried to charge me $1,800.0 for breaking the contract. We them moved out of state and had them install the normal system. after 1 year 6 month we moved again they charged me $1,600.00 for early termination and recommended using their blue system for our apartment we rented for 3 months while we looked for a home. Stupid me said yes and after 3 weeks we found a house so I never even opened the box let alone install it and now the just hit me with another $1200.00 termination fee. The BBB should really do something about this fraudulent company. If you want to pay your bill they will answer in 1 to 3 minuets. if you want to cancel your services be ready to hold for 1 1/2 hours to 3 or more hours. I have tried calling this company four trime re a permit with the police department that they were supposed to get fot the security stystem they installed. Two months later and four dropped calls no correction. Run from these guys! As evidenced by the fact that so few customers ever renew their ADT contract. They are a group of ex-cons that have a two part sale. First, the scare you with a bunch of bogus statistics so as to manipulate you into signing a 3 year contract for: "peace-of- mind" . The second step is for them to over promise a simple installation, knowledgeable staff, follow up ect. All of which are part of the con. You will never see the same person twice and they have NO follow through. If you do buy-in, they will only refer to you as another "sucker" - All you need to do in order to verify my story is to ask your "rep" to see their own ADT alarm set up. Early one evening, we came home to a burning electrical smell and five minutes later fire was coming out of the heating vents smoke quickly followed and the smoke alarms were going off all over the house. So we called the fire department. Fire trucks came and smoke got every where and still we did not get a call from ADT. Almost 24 hours later we finally get a call from ADT not about smoke but low power to the alarm. We explained that the power was turned off because of the fire. The house is uninhabitable and had to be completely gutted. ADT offered us three months of free service we declined and since then we switched alarm company's. We had been an ADT customer for nearly 2 decades. We were aware that compared to our neighbors, we had outdated equipment and were paying much more ($63/month), but inertia during Covid time had kept us from exploring others. Anyway, I called ADT in mid-June to cancel because we were moving. They mostly were interested in selling us a system at our new residence, and kept bouncing me to others, who gave different sales pitches, it was hard to get anyone to focus on our cancellation. They said they could de-activate the system but would continue charging us for a month. In fact at one point I was told that though we were moving in June we would be billed in July for service into August, even though we would be long gone by then! As justification one agent told me some garbage about how they could be saving me a $1000 fine in case a false alarm resulted in police arriving. I asked how this could be the case when they had de-activated the system and we didn't own or live in the house anymore! Their only interest was in squeezing out whatever money they could. Ultimately I agreed to about a 3-week payment - I hope they're happy that after us paying THOUSANDS over the past decades, they gypped us out of about $40, even though we will never consider them again, and we've convinced some neighbors not to consider them - hey ADT, do you think that's a good deal? They make a great sales pitch but don't care about their customers once they've signed up. read more

Terrible experience! Been a long time customer put in for upgrades at $1500, they couldn't even install my doorbell video cam. Never finished the easy job of just upgrading existing equipment. I bought a house with an active ADT system in it, and when the regional ADT rep contacted me through my realtor, he offered what I believed was a reasonable deal. I was to pay a little over $100.00 (over the phone) and set an appointment to have a new keypad installed if needed. I did so, confident that because the system had been monitored for the previous owners up until my closing date, that nothing would need to be replaced. When the installer came, he told me that the keypad was too old to be monitored for a new account, but the hundred I'd already paid would cover the new one, with a remote.....but he didn't have what he needed to install it that day. When he returned later in the week, he had no trouble connecting the window and door sensors to the new pad, but, was not apparently aware that two most important alarms to me, the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, were not compatible with the new keypad. After several hours, and no prior estimate, he informed me that I would need new ones (total 4), at over $150.00 apiece. The regional rep was on vacation, so the best they could offer me at that time was to make a flex payment arrangement for three payments of $200.00 on a working system that I did not ever intend to spend more than $100.00 on in the first place. When the regional rep returned, he reduced the price to a total of $400.00, plus of course the $100.00 I had paid in the beginning. So, essentially, I have paid $500.00 to simply hook up 2 smoke detectors and 2 carbon monoxide detectors that shouldn't have been necessary. Short of using my 3 day window to cancel the entire transaction, this is the "best" they can do. And I didn't even get kissed. read more

I contacted ADT to set up new home security for my house. I explained to them , that for different reasons, I did not want to enter into a long-term contract, and wanted to go month-to-month, even if it cost more. They came out and installed security equipment, and asked me to sign a 1 page form that indicated they had completed the installation. I again explained that I was not agreeing to a long-term contract , and the ADT installer looked me directly in the eye and said that I had not committed to any long-term contract. 18 months later, I called to discontinue my ADT service and they said I was under a 3-year contract, and that the 'termination fee' would be $600. I have disputed this issue , thus far unsuccessfully. I have also involved my attorney. My goal is that other new customers do not continue to support ADT and their unethical and dishonest practices. read more

Useless, these people and their monitors are absolutely useless. I was a customer for 3 years. Two years ago while I was out of town with work I received a call stating the burglar alarm was going off. My wife who is handicapped was supposed to be home. Of course I was worried, almost frantic. I tried to telephone my wife with no response. I informed the monitor I was out of town since I could not raise my wife on the phone I requested they send the police but the monitor refused. When I inquired why I was told I did not have a permit. I then informed her my town did not require a permit. The witch still refused. I called the sheriff's department myself and explained the situation. The dispatcher informed me of what I already knew. I did not need a permit. The Sheriffs office advised they would send a car as soon as one was available. Hours passed and no information. In the meantime I called the monitor back and advised them since they refused to notify the police that their service was useless and I did not require or want it any more. A total of 4 phone calls, three emails and a registered letter informing adt that I did not want their service. They refused to listen and kept billing me. Additional phone calls went unheeded. When I refused to pay they immediately sent the bill to collections. They will never get an additional penny from me. I work for a very large aerospace company that has thousands of employees I continue to inform everyone who inquires how I was treated and what kind of company these people run. If it weren't for a neighbor who responded my wife might not have made it after an extremely bad fall. May they burn in hell because that's what they deserve. read more

ADT has hefty termination charges that they do not disclose till it is time to collect. The sales person who came to sell the contract did not mention termination clause. The person who disconnected the service was equally negligent in telling me about any termination charges. Then I get my final bill with a "bill shock" of $1,200!!!!! read more

Terrible company!!! Expect rate increases every 6 months. They will charge you an extra month after you cancel. Equipment is outdated. I would recommend xfinity security if you can bundle it with Comcast. $29.95 for 2 years. And everything is wifi and equipment is top notch! Don't bother with ADT, you will regret it. read more

There are two main problems with this company: First, their prices are very high (they get you with the up-front, equipment costs). Second, the installers and the monitoring are two different entities and they'll bounce you back and forth between the two claiming it's the other's responsibility to deal with your problem. "You'd think they invented the phrase that's not my problem". Nobody wants to take any kind of ownership for the customers they have. The installers just want to sell you the system and get you to sign a 3-year service agreement. The monitors just want to collect your monthly monitoring fee. Save yourself a lot of anger and frustration and look elsewhere. read more

We had a bad unit installed and cops came. Second unit said it was bad programming. Now monthly billing went up and have to spend an hour every month to try to correct. Come to find out the cancelation period is super short and we have a 36 month contract. Do Not used ADT Security. They have the worst service and attitude. read more

Eric visited our home 3 times in a week. I was displeased from the beginning when I informed him I was heading out to run an errand and it was poor timing, but he persisted with his sales pitch. On his 3rd visit I tried to inform him we discussed the options and weren't interested. At which point he began insulting my intelligence. Was a customer for nearly 15 years. Tried to cancel our services via phone as we are going with a competitive service to see how that company works out (and save $).. LONG WAIT times on hold with ADT first of all.... as one cannot cancel online. Was told they would send the cancellation notice in the mail for my records... instead got a bill for an additional month in the future. The bill was a at a higher rate than what i was paying in the past!!! Additionally called back same wait times and the rep said it cancels 30 days after I cancel???? I don't even have the phone line anymore!!! why do I have to pay for a service that I don't use, and especially can't use for another 30 days and at a higher rate?? When asked to speak with a manager... she said none are available!!??... Terrible customer service, and shady business practices... I suggest certainly finding another company...I was considering them in the future as well too... not anymore... Find another company-- feel free to share this review... I called after a few weeks for service with technical problem of false alarms. They are able to schedule me with first appointment. LONGER THAN ONE MONTH AWAY!! In acceptable. Never use ADT. ADT came to my home to set up monitoring services in a home I purchased that already had ADT. After 4 hours, the technician left, saying that my alarm and fire monitoring services were working. When I tried to get the certificate from ADT for insurance purposes, I was told I had no fire monitoring. The only reason I set up ADT was for fire monitoring, not for alarm monitoring. So when I called to cancel the contract when they couldn't add the fire monitoring, I was charged for the balance 20 months of service left on the contract. I was told I had no fire detectors to monitor. When a new company came out to give a quote, they said I had three detectors hooked up to my alarm system. Ridiculous waste of my time with ADT. Awful experience, difficult to reach anyone knowledgeable, and awful experience with the original tech. read more

Initially everything seemed to go well with our system. However, within 8 months the system malfunctioned 4 times which required a technician to come to the house to fix (and they only give you a six hour window). They also were very poor deal with on the phone; not helpful at all, long time on hold, etc. When we requested to be released from the contract because of the malfunctioning system, they refused because of a name-change on the contact which they claimed negated the prior issues with the system. They also made a promise of several free months of credit, only to deny the credit later and claim the credit was assigned to the time the system was down. Strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your home security needs based on our experience. read more
