UPDATE: ADT reached out to me soon after I posted this review. They refunded the charge in full. Do not trust your technician to bill you correctly! An ADT tech recently replaced a system panel. He told me it was under warranty and the only charge I would get was for the assessment ($59). He did not give me any paperwork to review or sign. Two days later, ADT charged my VISA $872. I called ADT to dispute the claim. A manager told me that the technician is only person who can determine if something is under warranty, and the paperwork showed the tech said it wasn't. So, the charges were proper and could not be changed. I told him that the technician had said it was under warranty and suggested he look up my account to see that the panel was under warranty. He said he could not do that as that would not be following their practices. I suggested he call the technician; he said he could not do that either for the same reason. He ultimately offered to give me back 50%. I said no. I have filed a claim with the BBB. Before your ADT tech leaves, make sure he shows you paperwork that reflects how much you have to pay! Any mistake by the tech will be considered "too bad" and you will be stuck with the bill! read more

Our service technician, Quinton, installed multiple pieces of equipment without telling us about an up charge including premium window sensors and set up a google nest hub before getting our consent that we never ordered, both of which made our monthly payments more expensive. He installed additional equipment without referencing our previous order and was extremely pushy and dishonest. Our technicians were at our house for SIX HOURS. And after calling ADT to ask for a refund on the equipment he installed without telling us about the charge, they said we were past the return window. We will be reporting this to the BBB and corporate office. Do not work with ADT. read more

I got ADT installed on 6/17/25 by Quinton and he assistant Vaughn. I was never told I was getting this sophisticated Google Nest and ADT app i had to install not to mention the 5 year contract I was tricked into. I was told this is the new system and that's what they install now. All I wanted was the old style Command panel and sensors. Now I have faulty equipment. I texted manager Brian at 201-296-3089 to let him know I was having system issues and to please call me or text me back. I never got a callback or repl. On 6/20/25 I called and exercised my cancellation within 3 days and was told a supervisor would call me back from home office. again no call. I have been calling everyday for more than 2 weeks and spoke to Ms Johnetta from Accounts management. She provided to discounts to mitigate my issues since she couldn't change terms of contract. I told her I wanted to cancel and she was adamant about me allowing her to fix. She set up a for a technician to come out and fix sensors and key fob and said if he still don't resolve than I would have a final chance to cancel before he leaves with technician if he didn't resolve my issues . Richard the techician came out but didn't resolve so I said I wanted to cancel and he said he couldn't call for me and I would have to phone it in. I said can you put in your paperwork and he said he would. I called corporate office and told them what happened and I was told a again someone would call me back and no one called until I again 2 and 3 more times and finally Mary Payton called to tell me I couldn't cancel contract because I accepted the offer from Ms Johnetta which was contingent based on Technician fixing which he didn't. She said Ms Johnetta gave wrong advice and she would counsel her but was'nt willing to help me. would be more than willing to keep if they changed my contract to 36 months vs 60 and provide me with a command panel or exercise my right to cancel. I spoke to the sales department and made a list of what i felt I wanted and needed in my home. The day the installation tech came in he had no equipment from what my sales order referred to. The tech said sales doesn't understand what the customers need. He wrote up everything he felt I needed. When I declined and requested The camera with the motion sensor flood light which is what I had told the sales department, he said they would charge for a electrician to come and install this. According to sales they would not charge for the electrician, even though I questioned it since I read in small writing they would. The tech installed camera's inside my home in area's that aren't ever accessed. All I requested was motion sensors. I was charged for 3 outdoor cameras and only two were brought in and installed. I was charged for a Google Nest speaker which was never left at my house. I'm still trying to get a satisfactory call from ADT which has not happened in 10 days. The tech said he would be there all day. No reason for him to be there. I did not have a gmail account set up. I only use yahoo. This was a problem for him as he nor I were internet savy. The tech explained to me he was getting a new ADT vehicle with the Google logo on the decal side since he sold so many Google products. Which I totally understand why now. The tech did not have a business card. However wrote his name on my direction manual and a number he could be contacted at in a business he owns in the state of PA. Remember I'm in Maryland. He also offered to install anything else I felt I needed at only 2/3 of the price if I went through ADT. What a horrible experience, I will never suggest ADT to anyone. THE THEIF BEHIND ADT On October 26, 2021, I signed a contact with ADT at my apartment. As a previous customer for almost a decade, I received several discounts for simply relocating from my previous address, including no charge for the "System & Added Tech." The result was a flawless, professional, and perfect experience, with a monthly payment of $45.57. In February 2022, 4 months later, I was scheduled to relocate from my apartment. Being that I misplaced the representative's business card, I contacted ADT directly to assist me with the relocation of service to my new address. Before moving forward with a new contract, I made it clear that I wanted the EXACT SAME SERVICE that I currently had (Control Panel, 2 Door Sensors, 1 Motion Sensor, and an Indoor Camera) so that my bill did not increase. The representative confirmed, and then suggested an additional camera for only a few additional dollars per month. I agreed. On February 26, 2022, the day of install, the technician came without the camera and an incorrect order. We were forced to call ADT; however, since it was a Saturday, we were not able to reach the appropriate department. The technician, who was great, was able to remove the additional camera, so my bill would remain as $45.57. Perfect! On February 28, 2022, I was charged $45.57. To my understanding this was my "bill," which made sense to me. I also received an additional charge for $78.95. When I called to inquire about said charge, I was told that it was for the "installation." I was unaware of this, but I accepted it and moved on. THEN on March 28, 2022, I received a charged for $11.29. I STILL have no idea what this is for. THEN on the SAME DAY I received an additional charge for $22.09. Another charge I didn't know what it was for. THEN yesterday, April 27, 2022, I received a charge for $56.86. On April 28, 2022, I called ADT inquiring as to WHY my bill went from $45.57 to $56.86. Valid question. As I was literally on hold waiting to speak to someone, I received ANOTHER charge for $22.09. After I finally got someone on the phone and went through my bill line by line and was disgusted with what I saw. I was charged $70.00 for a Plugin On/Off Appliance Module and $100.00for a Smoke Detector, 2-way Encrypted Wireless. Not only were these two (2) items not on my original service, but I did not ask for them with my new service and I did not receive them regardless. I was charged $68.00for a Municipal Electrical / Decal Permit when I was not charged for this before. Finally, what disgusted me the most, was I was charged $955.00 for Installation, which I was not charged before, AND I was just told today, that I am to pay $27.00monthly for the next 36 months to pay that off, which means my TRUE monthly bill is actually $78.95, not $45.57. Has ADT lost their mind!? Is this how ADT treats previous customers!? I would have simply terminated my contract and paid the termination fee before all of this. On May 31, 2022, I received another charge for $22.09, for the same equipment that I was forced to get AFTER I received a charge for $47.93 on May 27, 2022. I called them immediately, and of course they started giving me he same run around. Finally, I gave up and asked to speak to the Cancellation Department. I had had enough! After reaching them, a woman on the phone tried to offer me a credit of $150.00 and lower my bill for three (3) months to $20+, but that was the "best she could do" and I would have to "call back in three (3) months to see if more credit could be given." I told her to just cancel the account. Again, if this is how ADT is going to treat their customers, just cancel the account. Without haggle, she cancelled my account. I was surprised. From that point I asked her to confirm that I would not be charged any additional costs. She said she wasn't sure, and that the billing department would have to answer that. She transferred me to someone in billing and I was told that 1) I would receive a final bill for everything in the mail and 2) my account/billing information was no longer in the system. We concluded the conversation and that was that. THEN on June 3, 2022, I woke up to an overdrawn account due to a charge from ADT for $566.67. I called immediately and was told that that was the "balance for my equipment..." THE SAME CHARGE I'VE BEEN DISPUTING, and that there was "nothing that they could do." This charge caused several other payments in my account to not clear. Scumbags! There were numerous other attempts to contact ADT, with name and contact information I could share, but at the end of the day, ADT does NOT care about their customers, only the money they can get from them. read more

HERE'S THE REASON FOR THE ONE STAR REVIEW... Early February 2023 I called to have a nest floodlight camera installed. While setting up the contract I paid $52.00 to the salesperson over the phone. The installation was set for February 21, 2023. The salesman said an electrician would be sent out before the installation of the camera. A technician came out on the 21st with the nest floodlight to install it on my home. He immediately said he could not install the camera because the electrician never came out. The tech LEFT THE NEST FLOOD not having a clue when an electrician would come out. I called ADT immediately to find out what was going on. I was told an electrician had not been scheduled for the contract (which was included in the contract for $400). I asked when an electrician would come out and no date could be scheduled then. I also mentioned that the tech LEFT THE NEST FLOODLIGHT, brand new, unopened, and was told that should not have happened. The next day I received an email from a manager. He had no idea why an electrician had yet to be scheduled, and said, and I quote "seems the right had doesn't know what the left hand is doing." He suggested I cancel the contract which I was ready to do anyway at that point. He emailed the next day and said the contract was cancelled and I would receive a refund for all monies paid,which by time had been $52 plus, $19.40. As of today the grand total refund ADT owes me is $190. I've been charged $22.60 monthly for a floodlight that was not installed. I was charged an increased monthly bill that includes the floodlight. There have been other charges on my billing for the floodlight for the last three months. I was told last week that a refund for $118 was in the mail. Not close to what has been automatically debited from my checking account the last three months. They need to check their records for the correct refund (if it's really in the mail). I don't think you even deserve a single star, and I don't think you care that the reviews on Yelp give you no more than 1 star. Otherwise, you would be trying to improve your service. The franchise here in Maryland is probably one of the worse. My system has been beeping for two days. Nobody can sleep or work, and you tell me I have to wait a week until you can send someone to fix the problem. What kind of service is that? I called at 2 am on the first night and you were not able to help; I call the following night at 11 pm and the same thing happened. Today I am calling at 1 pm to see if the agents are better during the day but here I am receiving the same treatment. Please do NOT waste your money on ADT. You had a driver who was driving northbound on IN-9 in Shelby and Hancock counties, Indiana between 4:00-4:30PM EST on 16 March who weaving in and out of the driving lanes (twice that I saw) and FLIPPING PEOPLE OFF is NOT "safe" driving. Maybe you should also remind him that he has a bumper sticker on the back of his truck that lists the phone number and 181EN to call for unsafe driving. Imagine my dismay when I discovered the 800 number was that of a company whose objective is in fact to keep people safe. With my new home I've had nothing but issues with my new system. Now that I actually need them...I can't even get a call returned or a technician to finish repair when THEY say they will. Then I call on endless hold and I end up scheduled for appointments without me knowing. (Really?!) They always get you into a long term contract for a reason! Otherwise most people would bolt! When dealing with ADT appointment services is terrible they don't do well with keeping their customers appointments at ALL. In February I was to have 4 cameras installed at my home, due rain the outside cameras could not be place up on my house. So I call to reschedule the cameras and the appointment was rescheduled for a date in March. I never received a ETA so I called ADT to confirm the appointment for the ETA and date in March representative said the appointment was canceled. I had a sales rep come to my house to give me an estimate. If I could give 0 stars I would. He asked me about my last name - is it Italian? Totally unprofessional! He told me all about his family businesses and sat uncomfortably close to me on the sofa. Then he asked me who makes the financial decision in my family because I told him I needed to discuss it with my husband. He "needed an answer in 3 hours because ADT wont guarantee the price after" What a crock!! then when I said I won't be able to give an answer, all of a sudden the price decreased $695. He was worse than a used car salesman! He also mentioned 3 times how he was "rookie of the year" like I actually care. When I contacted the original rep to express my dissatisfaction- he told me I was in the wrong for interrupting his sales presentation and that it was a two way conversation. As I called To cancel today I was told that I have a 3 years contract which I was not aware of! When I called 6 months back a guy called wilbin frances with phone number of 301-602-8415 picked up and sold me this service and I was told that I can cancel anytime or I can freeze the account for as long as needed! So basically I was lied and tricked into this service and now they're asking me to pay them $1200.00 cancellation fee! I am very upset and disappointed at these people and suck companies that make their money by lying and scamming costumers. I called and talked to frances the guy that sold me the service and as soon as I said "I like to talk to his manager" he said he will call me back in 45 minutes and that was 4 hours ago. I've been trying to call him and he is not picking up my phone number anymore! This is an extreme scam and awful service from ADT security system. FRAUDS. CHEATS. LIARS. THIEVES. I signed up for a home security system with these people two months ago. I wanted the $25 per month bargain package. The technician they sent out said we couldn't get the bargain package because we didn't have a landline phone. So he pushed the $54 per month package on us instead. He also said that we would recieve two $100 Visa gift cards for signing up. The email they sent only offered one (1) $100 Visa card which I still have not gotten after sending away for it over two months ago. I was told I had a 3-day window to cancel my service if I was dissatisfied. I tried to cancel via fax (regular mail being the only alternative) and a week later I followed up with them and they told me they never got the fax. I had no confirmation number and they refused to let me speak to the department that was denying the existence of the fax without one. I had an Appointment with ADT on November 23. We had the most HORRIBLE Tech that visited our home. Prior to our appointment time and Dad I call and confirm. I also tripple chk and confirm how much we'll have to pay on the time of our Appointment. When the Tech arrived. He seemed a bit out of it. He had nothing organized or was ready for the appointment. He told me I had not sign the signature page. I assure him I did. I showed him the proof. He said he didnt had it on his phone. He then told me I have to pay $600.before he can do any installation. He sat on my couch in my living room as if he was just there to relax and have a good time. Well past an hour he was just sitting there on the phone. I got on the phone to call ADT. I was transferred over 7 times. I finally got a Representative who help me and told him as to what to do to proceed. We wasted well over two plus hours. This Tec spend over seven hours at our home he came around 12.30 PM and left around 7.25 PM. Did very poor Job. I left a few message for Supervisors to call me back. Since NO SUPERVISOR WAS EVER AVAILABLE. He didnt leave a yard sign. I had to call the Tech back to ask for a yard sign. He said I didn't ask for one. I rate this Tech ay 1%. I rate ADT at 0% from the service I receive. I receive the WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER IN MY ADULT LIFE. I'm being assured ADT is the Best security service in America. You can have the Best company but if you promote the Worse Customer Service. Your company is definitely not the best. No Supervisor has ever responded to any of my messages. At this time I will not recommend anyone to ADT. I've had to endured the most horrifying experience ever. We were over charged than the price we were quoted several times. I had as already paid a deposit. This Tech had no information on his phone. His appointment was a waste of time. I was told I was on a priority list for an earlier appointment. I tried calling multipe times after signing the paper to cancel couldn't get an answer till the next week. Then was told I had 3 days to cancel and now i would have to payoff the 5 year contract to get out of it. i have never used the system once. Just get ring cameras that's all you need. I had it installed and after comparing competing companies, I realized that this and it's 3 year contract was not the smartest investment. ADT has a 6 month canceling guarantee which was a hassle to get them to do it. And when they did come to pick their system up the technician had no regard for my residence. We bought our system originally from Brinks, but ADT took over the monitoring several years ago. We have not any any problems with the service up until we sold our house and tried to cancel the service. It turns out that they require a 30-day notice to cancel, so if you don't somehow magically know this 30 days before your closing date, you will be billed (as we were) for 30 days of service you will not use. I would make sure to read the fine-print before signing anything from this company. read more

I got trapped into a three year contract. I had a system just turned on not even installed. When I called them to express a financial situation where I can't afford the service. They told me it would be 1000 to cancel even though they told us we could cancel after 6 months. I spoke with a manager who was incredibly rude and then threatened to take me to collections. Honestly I don't recommend them at all. They do nothing to help people other hen screw them. Normally, it is a robo-call which tells me that a "Friend" referred my numbers but the calls only started after I had one of their reps come out to give me that estimate. While getting gas at the station in Annapolis, MD, on of the drivers pull up next to me. He exited the ADT vehicle and acted very suspicious, hiding something in his hands. He kept looking at me in a very weird way, I think he was on something. He then wen to the trash can and turned his back to me and shoved something way down into the container. I then proceeded to leave and noticed he was looking around all paranoid. As I waited for the light to change to exit the station, he decided to cut me off with his ADT vehicle, nearly hitting my vehicle as he squealed out of the station. It happened so fast, I was in shock. If this is how ADT operates in public, I would hate for them to work in either my business or home. What a fine example this individual sets. My alarm went off the day it was installed and they had to walk me through changing my code. A few days later, the glass break alarm went off. No one called (so much for the "monitoring") and when I called they acted like it was my fault ("Did you slam the door?") - then another false alarm at 1:30 in the morning and they sent a tech out to fix it. I have had an ADT security system to 20 years. I have stayed with them through all the "maintenance fee" increases etc. I have an old system that is hard wired. I recently had new windows installed and needed new window contacts added to the new windows, as the old ones were removed. The first technician came out and eventually called his manager and then informed me that they can only put new wireless contacts on the windows as they don't make hard wired contacts anymore. He informed that the entire system would need to be upgraded and that they would do this "for no charge." At this point, my front door sensor stopped chiming. A few days later they sent a second tech who informed me that they do indeed still have hard wired contacts and to specifically ask if they have the ones that will work with my older system. He also tried to get the front door sensor to work, and was unable to. ADT sent a 3rd technician out "at no charge" for the new contacts and door sensor. ADT is misleading about what can and can't be repaired because they want you to upgrade to a new system that costs more monthly. After being a customer for 20 years, I would expect better. Be aware and do your research and ask specific questions when needing repairs or upgrades. There are other companies that charge less and have superior service. Check out Simplisafe. Update: After the technician finished his work and was explaining the new part, he informed me that these were not glass breakers (which I had previously and have on all the other windows) and only chime when the window is opened and it isn't monitored by the system or ADT. So now I have contacts drilled into brand new windows for no reason. I have called ADT about the issue and want the windows repaired and have cancelled my ADT service. I have talked to 7 people today in different departments and all have told me something different. I'm getting the run around about how and when they will resolve the window repair. You would be wise to find a different security company to use. read more

We got a bill for the year but decided we no longer need their services so we wrote on the invoice that we wanted to cancel our services. We got no response for several months until they started harrassing us for not paying the bill. When we finally got someone on the phone and we told them to cancel, she started the process but cut us off. It took several more weeks before we were able to cancel our account. Now we're getting billed for $189 for unpaid charges since May. They won't waive the balance because it wasn't cancelled until September. Never use them again. read more

I just had ADT instal an alarm on my primary residence. I also have ADT on 2 other properties. I must say, I am not at all thrilled with the sales staff. They will say whatever it takes to get the sale and then they leave you hanging . I am sorry I ever started with them. My husband would like to cancel the contracts so we will see. Dealing with ADT was one of the worst experience of my life. I really felt like having a nervous breakdown after dealing with ADT. I had ADT security services installed in my home for about 7 months (2 years contract). We decide to move so I called ADT and asked them to move my services to the new house. I was told that shouldn't be a problem that they can arrange for the equipment (door sensors and motion detector that I paid for) from old house to be installed in my new house. The tech showed up after couple days in my new place having no idea what to do. They tried to sell me as much equipment as they can...have me sign a new contract with new pricing with the promise that ADT will sort everything out. The tech left without installing a sensor on one of the back door...I didn't see it till they left. I asked ADT to isntall a different screen that can announce which door/window is open (the one I have only beeps)...I have an autistic kid and I want to make sure that I can hear which exist is being opened. I called ADT 2 times after installation to "sort" things but every time I talk to them, I end up spending over 90 minutes on the phone...being transferred from one agent to another. I had to explain my self with each agent...there is a real disconnect, no body knows what I was talking about. I also found that I was still being billed by ADT from old house and that ADT doesn't support moving equipment from old house. I was told one lie after another. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM ADT. THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY. I m on the phone with them right now as I m writing this review, trying to cancel my account. I have already spent over an hour talking to them! read more

The salesperson came to the house and convinced me to go with ADT - gave suggestions for how to keep costs down which included an offer to come and help me with some "easy" to do tricks, but they were empty promises. He also said he would be there when the technicians came to install and he was a no-show. The billing has been messed up for three weeks now and the issues that has caused seems to be minimized by the sales rep. suggesting I call the home office or my own bank. I was happy with the camera installation at first but everything has overshadowed that brief moment of satisfaction. Also, the camera does not record automatically - only when I click capture. Within two weeks of installation the tire on my car was tampered with...had a recording been available, I could have seen if it was foul play. So, essentially, the camera is nothing more than ornamental at this point. Save your money and go with another company that provides lower costs for equipment and monthly fees. And, one that does not lock you in to a contract for three years. read more

I had an appointment set up between 8am & 12. The ADT technician comes out without a phone call, that's fine, he knocks on the door, didn't have a uniform on, a name tag, a let him because I seen the ADT truck. I had to ask him for his name two times , I finally received it, I was to have installed, two cameras, one door bell camera, new panel box, carbon monoxide detectors , flood detector, not to mention we been customers of ADT for 9 years. The technician had a bad attitude, said the system was hard to put in, & may not be able to do everything but prior to the technician coming out it was all explained no issues . I ask the technician to leave my wife came down had a few questions for him he left behind some tools. My wife handed him the power checker he grabbed it out of her hands she was caught on the wire which he pulled and she flew down the front porch. My wife is 71 & was shook up & Injured. About a month ago, I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone getting myself approved and set up to have an ADT Pulse security system installed. A month later I was scheduled for installation & that's when customer service from hell took over. The following occurred due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict on the day of my installation appt.. When I contacted them to reschedule (after sitting on hold nearly 30 mins & being disconnected twice) I was promptly told that there wasn't an appt for me anytime in the near future. She didn't give me a time frame - I was simply told to call back (she insinuated I should wait a very long time) to schedule my installation; that ADT is scheduling so far into the future, their calendar didn't go that far. I got the impression that if I called back, fine, and if I didn't, that would be even better. Even up to that point, I was still willing to find out how long it would be to reschedule my installation, but I was never given a time frame. She put me on hold (again) and asked the scheduling manager who affirmed her instruction. There wasn't an appt for me, nor would there be any day or time in the distant future. I finally gave up and asked to cancel. After being disconnected AGAIN, I finally got thru to the cancellation dept who was more than happy to cancel me out. I guess ADT doesn't need new customers. I guess ADT doesn't care if they sell a top of the line Pulse system or not. Their motto is if I go away, someone else will quickly take my place. Their ignorance and lack of respect helped me dodge a bullet it seems. If you need a security system my advice is to go to any company in the world other than ADT. They are miserable & should be embarrassed to say they even have customer service!!! read more

DO NOT CHOOSE ADT - FAILED IN A FIRE AND HORRIFIC CUSTOMER CARE AFTERWARDS!!! Despite paying for ADT fire and security alarm/monitoring for nearly two years, when we HAD a FIRE, the ADT smoke alarm NEVER went off (although it was only 5 ft away from the basic smoke alarm that did)! Thank goodness my family was home when the fire started and our cheap battery-powered alarms alerted us to the fire and we could call 911 in time. Besides this fundamental FAILURE of ADT's fire system to protect my family and home, we experienced HORRENDOUS costumer service after this event. My husband and I were insulted, patronized, aggravated, and disrespected on several occasions by the customer "advocate" assigned to us. The company shirked all responsibility and made us feel like this was our fault! Moreover, our requests to speak to the advocate's supervisors to lodge a formal complaint and terminate our service were ignored. Adding more insult to injury, we were still being charged when ADT and we knew that their fire alarm system was not working. read more
