So the other day, my car wouldn't start because my battery is old and I don't drive enough (high class problems, amirite?). I already knew my BMW mechanic wanted 400 bones for parts and labor to switch out my battery so had been putting it off until it could no longer be put off. Still reluctant to fork over so much dough for labor and after a couple youtubes, I realize switching out that battery *is* more difficult than average ones, and it's about 3 times as heavy, but relatively sure I can do it, I went to see where to find a replacement battery. Walmart doesn't carry ones that have cold cranking amps high enough. O'Reilly has it but more expensive and no advertised garantee. Advanced Auto Parts has it with a great 25% off coupon + 2% cash back on Ebates if you order it online to pick up in store plus 3 year free replacement guarantee. And they gave me another $22 back for bringing in the old battery (I love getting paid to give someone my trash!). All this brought what would have been a $400 repair down to $140 + an hour of my time to do the switch ($260 savings!). When I got to the store to pick up my online order, I only had to wait a for the person ahead of me to finish their transaction. This location is close to my house, so driving there, being at the store, and getting home all took 22 minutes total. Their website makes it easy to filter on your vehicle and the closest store and look at nearby stores if the closest store doesn't have it. I'm about equidistance from two stores so this works out well -- they have a lot of locations so it makes it easy to work with them wherever you live. The store was clean and well stocked and they had a lot of different promotions going on. This experience has given me the confidence to maybe do my brake fluid repair and switch out my microfilters if Advanced Auto Parts had the parts I need -- which they probably do, since they had that specialized battery that not everyone carries. 5 stars for a very easy transaction and good experience! read more

It used to be that business trained their employees that they don't have a job without the customers that come into their store. This is the foundation behind customer service. I came into this store because my pregnant wife had broken down on the side of the road. Apparently the idiots who did her break hand tightened the caliper bolts and one fell out. We were closer to another store, but they didn't have the bolt and told us this store did. I tried calling them to verify inventory, the phone was quickly picked up and the I was asked to hold. After 6 minutes on hold, I started to drive to the store since it was only 7 minutes away and we were running out of day light. The call stayed on hold the whole drive for a total of 15 minutes. I walked into the store still on hold and there wasn't a sole in site. This was not what I expected for having been on hold so long. I honestly expected the store to be empty. So, I stood there looking around for help. Out the front window I saw an employee get out of his car and head toward the store. Based on the half consumed soda in his hand, he'd been taking a break in his car. At the same time from the opposite direction in walks a female employee who'd obviously been on a smoke break. I asked for the part I needed and guess what, they couldn't find it. I complained that if they'd actually answered their calls instead of leaving them on hold for them to take a break, I wouldn't have wasted valuable time driving to their store. She complained that they were understaffed. Hmmm, as a customer, that's not my problem. That's the problem of management to correct the problem - possibly by paying people better or treating them better. Customer's should never hear such response to poor customer service. That's ok, Autozone and O'Reily's are better stores albeit with slightly better service. read more

Extremely understaffed, 10 minutes in line for a will call order and they couldn't find, blamed other location for error and left without my parts I had already paid for. Went back to other location, they called Wm Cannon and helped them find over the phone. Sad given Advance usually has great service and quality parts. read more

We stopped because my windshield wipers needed to be replaced ASAP and Matt W was super helpful and let me know what sizes I needed and installed them quickly. He was friendly and had excellent customer service, will come back for all car part needs! read more

I am grateful for this place only because my car battery always seems to die on a holiday when my sister is in town. I have often relied on the kindness of strangers to jump, push, pull my piece of crap Focus (Oh please car don't break down just because I am saying not nice things about you-I love you...). These guys never fail to help me out and I very appreciative for it. My docking of a star was for my recent experience with the guy who rang me up/put the new battery in. I have dealt with him before but this time he was a little odd. Was the commentary really necessary and what exactly were you going to say about my last name anyway? This place feels less like a chain and more like a neighborhood mom & pop store. I come into this store probably every other month for something and have found the employees (I can only remember Vance's name off the top of my head because it rhymes with adVANCE!) to be polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. Where is SOUTH AUSTIN AUTO SUPPLY when you needed them!!!! This Advanced Auto location is a joke sometimes. It is hit.... or miss badly I swear it took 45 minutes with the guy gone looking for a radiator hose for me. I think he went to lunch, came back and got the hose on the way back in the back door. I miss the guys at the old SAAS. Wayne, Mike, and especially crazy Doug in the machine shop. Built many a HOTROD out of that place. read more

Worst buying experience imaginable. I purchased two brake rotors and a set of brake pads online for store pickup. ("Just give us 30 mins"... yeah, right.) I placed the order at 8 am and waited until 1pm with no communication from Advance before I went into the store. Trip 1: I arrived to find 6 customers waiting in line with only one employee to be seen. I asked where to pick up an online order and he said to get in line. After a 45 minute wait, I finally go to the counter to find that they hadn't even pulled the order yet. It took him about 5-6 minutes to find my parts and then I was finally able to leave. Trip 2: I got home to find that Advance's website suggested the wrong rotors and pads for my car! Great, another trip to the store. I went to a closer location to return the parts and we figured out that we had to tell Advance's website that my car was 2 years newer then it really is to get it to select the correct rotors and pads. Then the associate told me that he couldn't give me the same discount I got on my original purchase, so I would have to go order them online for pick up at the William Canon store again. He told me that if I called him after ordering the parts, he would make sure they were ready and waiting when I got back to the store. Trip 3: After ordering the parts, I called to let the store associate know and I headed to the William Cannon store. (Remember their "Just give us 30 mins...?) I go there 45 mins later, had to wait in line again, and found that the order had not yet been pulled AGAIN. After waiting for the associate to find the parts, I inspected them before leaving the store. The brake pads had obviously been opened and returned, as all of the packing material inside the box AND the mounting clips were missing. The associate told me they didn't have any other pads and that the closest location that did was an hour away! Frustrated, but needing to get my car put back together, I took what they had to offer and ended up reusing the old mounting clips. Summary: Order placed at 8am and parts in hand (except the missing parts) at 5:30pm after 3 trips to the store. It literally took my longer to get the parts than to complete the brake job. If I hadn't needed the parts that same day, I could have saved all the frustration (and about $40) by ordering the parts from Rock Auto and waiting 2 days for home delivery. Lesson Learned: Plan in advance so you won't have to shop at Advance. read more

I would rate this store more than 5 stars if I could, my customer service standards are high and very hard for me to really satisfied but this people know what they're doing, they have the best manager I've ever seen and every single time he has helped me I've left the store more than satisfied, his name is vance, very knowledgable, helpful and friendly, he has helped for the past 4 months and I wouldn't go anywhere else if I need a part or something for my vehicle, so if you need something for your vehicle and wanna make it a good experience visit this store. read more

The short version of this story: after making a purchase at a different store, this store refused to take care of me on a battery core refund. Eventually I had to be taken care of by the store at 5339 n interstate 35, 78723. If you need help, Yvonne and her team there will take excellent care of you and make it worth your drive. Otherwise, try autozone or buy online. I've worked retail my whole life and never been treated so poorly. This is why brick and mortar stores are dying! Let's help kill this one once and for all. The long version: Terrible customer service! I tried to return a battery core for my core charge refund, and they refused to do it. I walked in, heavy-ass battery in tow, and gave them my receipt for the purchase which was made a at a store up north. They refused, claiming there was a 'special number' that only the store that sold it to me had (which translates to: "I don't want to do a return on something that you purchased at another store") I told them that it was 6:30 and all lanes of i35 and the access road were at a CRAWL. The customer behind me even piped in and said he's done the same thing, and they just have to call the other store. Vance refused to call. So I left. I loaded my battery back up, and I sat in my car and called 1877advance. The nice lady on the phone told me that I was right, they probably just did not want the hit on their sales. I explained the situation. I explained that Google maps put the other store in the wrong place so I accidentally ordered it from up north, and I explained that Austin traffic would move faster if we all rode sea turtles. She understood and called the store while I was on the phone and instructed them to do the return. I walk back in, after unloading my heavy-ass battery again, and Vance still doesn't want to do the return. This time he tries to talk me out of it by saying it will void the warranty. What? Returning a core at a store the product was not originally purchased from voids the warranty? That's a new one. I tell him I'll just keep all the receipts and take my chances. He sighs, and starts to log in. Then he stops, and takes me to a different computer and starts scanning the receipt while shaking his head and saying it won't work. The computer just flashes an error message as he scans the receipt. "See? It's not going to work." He says as the computer flashes the message "user login required" (ah, you did not expect me to be able to read, did you Vance?) I told him that he should try logging in. He said it wouldn't work, because the systems didn't connect from store to store. (Do you see how he keeps changing his story?) then he just stood there shrugging. I asked him to call the store up north. He refused. Finally, I told him that I thought he just didn't want to do the return because they didn't want to take a hit on a sale they didn't make, and left. (See, he didn't expect me to be able to both read, and see through all of his bullshit..... But my wife and I have both worked retail our whole lives, and we can smell it from a mile away) After loading my battery back into my car, and dialing the 1877 number one again, I noticed Vance standing next to my car. As I opened my door he explained how it wasn't his sales personally that would suffer, but the store's. I was dumbfounded. Had he had a comeback while I was still in the store, it would have been one thing.... But to follow me to my car? That's just ridiculous. I closed my door and left before a fistfight ensued. When I got ahold of the customer service team again, they said there was nothing more that they could do at that point (it was after 8pm... Yes, I had been there for an hour and a half). Then I called the store up north. They called 2 different district managers. Then they called me back and told me that the William cannon location would take care of me (no one at the wc location had the balls to call me I guess). Then the next morning I got another call from Yvonne at the north I-35 location. She introduced herself as the manager, apologized for the inconvenience, and assured me that I would be taken care of at the wc location. I went back in (my fourth time in at this point) and they simply called the store up north and had them do the refund for me. They wrote me a hand written receipt, and sent me on my way. No apologies, no thank you for coming in four times. Not only bad service, but rude about it too. The bottom line: this store didn't want to take a return (even though it was just a core charge) on a purchase not made in their store. They tried to lie to me about it. Several times. They tried to cover up their lies with more lies. Then when I called them out on it, and after an extensive talk with the customer service team during which I was assured that this was a refund that COULD be done at that store and the only feasible reason they would have for their theatrics was to not take a negative sale) They still refused to help me. On Tuesday, April 26th, 2011 at 8:45 pm I called and spoke to Vance and asked if they had the low beam headlight bulb I needed for my minivan that I noticed had burnt out around 7pm that night, and they did have it. So good start. I then told him that my husband was out of town and I needed help changing the bulb since it was already night time and I didn't feel comfortable driving with only one headlight functioning. Vance said yes come on by, they could help me and to ask for Jesse. Well I got there around 9pm and the place was empty. I asked for Jesse and asked for the bulb and if he could help me with replacing the bulb. He said that they are not allowed to help customers with things like that. I explained that my husband was out of town and that I didn't feel comfortable driving with only one headlight at night. I also told him that Vance said to stop by and I would be helped by him. He started yelling at Vance "Did you tell her we could help her? We can't!" I almost started crying at that point, but held it in. He said again that it was against policy to help customers. So I bought the bulb and left very upset. I had to drive to a friends house that offered to help me since I was unable to get help from Advance Auto Parts and Jesse. Thanks alot Jesse! I'm just fortunate that I didn't get stopped by a police officer for driving with only one headlight working. I won't be visiting Advance Auto Parts again. I've got a good memory and a big mouth....maybe I'll start a blog! Jesse, you should really consider helping people in need. That was just wrong. I think you need a re-course in customer service and common humanity. read more

Went here a couple of months ago. I needed to get a rack and pinion for my car. Vance was over the top helpful! He explained how the warranty and core charge worked. We wound up talking about how to repair my AC and how much that would cost. On the way out he handed me an ice cold bottle of water. Our alternator stopped working on our way home to New Braunfels. We pulled off the interstate on William Cannon and found there was an Advanced Auto Parts store nearby. Vance tested our alternator, and let us borrow some tools so we could get our alternator replaced so we could make home to New Braunfels. My husband and I were very appreciate of Vance's help, and just wanted to get the word out that this store is a great place to do business with. read more

This store has very poor customer service. The wait was long and when I finally got helped I needed to return a battery and get a core charge refunded. The manager told me he couldn't do it because I bought the battery at another location. When you google this location, the phone number to one up north comes up so I ended up just ordering it from there. It is far from me and thought since they are all the same company, I can return anywhere. They took back small stuff I bought in San Antonio so I figured no problem. But NO, big problem. Refused to do the return. Look, if you don't want to come out of the check out stand to help me find things I don't really need but you could recommend, then don't get rude and lose all customer service skills because you don't want your store to take a return hit. I understand the way sales work since I work in retail management myself, and yeah it sucks but get over it. I will never purchase anything at this location again. And if I HAVE to go to an Advanced Auto parts I will go to the one on 51st and IH35 where they still understand the service element of retail. read more
