Rebate scam? I bought a pair of windshield wipers that offered a $12 rebate. I applied for the rebate in January did not receive the card until April after several calls. When I went to use the card It was not activated, even though the accompanying paperwork said that it was activated and ready to use. Called the rebate center. They said they would activate the card within 72 hours, a week later I tried the card is was still not working. In my opinion, this rebate is a scam. They're trying to make it so impossible to use the rebate card so that people simply give up. In the future I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I went to AAP today to purchase a new battery. I was assisted by Matt. I knew what kind of battery I needed and Matt confirmed they had it in stock. I inquired about installation and he requested I bring my car to the front for inspection. He came out to confirm if they could complete the installation. We then we went back in to complete the sale. I asked Matt if he could test my existing battery before installing the new one. He kindly agreed. The voltage was much higher than I expected. He checked it again and it read the same. He suggested that I have the existing battery charged stating it would be a cheaper alternative. I decided not to replace the battery. However, I did keep the purchased battery for further installation. He advised I could go back to have it installed when I'm ready as long as I have the receipt. Cell in battery died after close to a year of having it. Had it checked my mechanic who told us that's why my car won't start after its turned off after I get to work and after I get home and we have to jump it to get me to and from work. The battery failed. Advance tells us they have to test it themselves, fine. Go back up to see what their test says 24 hours later as instructed and they tell us their machine doesn't work (no phone call, nothing telling us that we just wasted 24 hours) and we have to take it home and put it back in the car (no explanation why) and then remove it from the car and come back tomorrow with it. All the while they don't have the paperwork to make sure whoever is there tomorrow knows what's going on because the guy helping us tells us that he won't be there. He just scribbles it down on a scrap piece of reciept paper (unprofessionalas hell). Meanwhile I'm out yet another day of being able to use my car without constantly jumping it. If it's your testing machine thats broken, JUST REPLACE THE BATTERY!!! The mechanic has said what's wrong and Advance says it could be the alternator that's why they have to test it. Don't you think the repair shop would say it's the alternator if it was, instead of sending us for a warranty replacement battery, since an alternator replacement would bring the shop more money?? Now, for some unknown reason I have to make a third trip up where they scribbled a note down on receipt paper for whoever works tomorrow. We have NO proof we even left it because they didn't want to give us any kind of receipt to show we've left this battery there. You have the money as a large business. If your machine is broken where I leave a battery for your required test, then I have to go back 24 hours later to pick up a replacement and you tell me you can'tgive a replacement because your machine is broken and you couldn't test it, good customer service will tell you you just replace the battery. Also, have the proper forms for things like this. Make sure your staff gives a receipt to the owner so they have proof they left it instead of scribbling on a blank receipt paper hoping the next guy will know what is going on. I've never been so mad in my life. No more business from me. You, as a company, make enough to give your customers the service they deserve, especially a repeat customers like myself. If it was the alternator or anything else, the mechanic would certainly have opted to have us pay him to replace that and honestly, I would rather have done that than deal with these fools at this point. I managed to leave the lights on in my car and kill my battery. My wife and 8 month old daughter were in the car and we were running late to see a friend. I saw the Advance Auto Zone and thought I'd try my luck. When I walked in, I picked up one of the chargeable battery starters and asked if it would work out of the box. The general manager told me that not only would it not work, it would likely ruin the battery. Instead he grabbed one the store had on hand and went out in the cold to give me a jump. Unfortunately, the charge on the device wasn't strong enough. And without missing a beat he proceeded to pull his own truck around and jump my car. When the General Manager talks a customer out of a purchase and then goes way out of his way to do a good deed, you know it's the kind of place that will give you advice you can trust and won't take advantage of you. I pulled in this morning on a snowy day with my rear wiper torn up. I wasn't sure if I needed new front wipers. Dave braved the storm and came out to assure me that my front wipers were fine, though any other shop could have told me I needed them to make a larger sale. He was sold out of the rear wiper, that I desperately needed, and sent me 2 miles down the road to his sister shop Carquest on Gude Drive. He offered to have me return to his shop for installation, since Carquest doesn't install. However, at Carquest, Celso graciously also came outside and did the install for me. These folks really looked out for me and made sure my car was safe and snow-worthy. They went beyond the call of duty. I am a loyal fan! read more

After waiting for Emmanuel and Riccardo to finish fooling around i was assisted. This took about 5 minutes. Then they were going back and forth arguing who needs to go to lunch and who will assist me. I offered them my license and to do the reading myself, they declined. All of a sudden the one guy who's supposed to help me needs to replace someone's battery and told me that i need to wait another 20 minutes... All i needed was a quick 1 minute of their time to get the code reading and spend $90 on the new battery. Service is awful and the place is not professional at all. I will never buy anything else from Advance Auto Parts. On 12/29 I ordered online from the Advance Auto Parts store at 4009 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh a Fully Automatic Battery Charger/Starter unit and paid $179 Upon getting it home and reading the manual, I found there is no way to use this without actually plugging in the unit and either taking the battery from your car to charge with the plug-in unit OR be near an electrical outlet to plug in this charger/starter. Who in their right mind would have thought you'd always be near an electrical outlet?! So I tried to return it 12/31 (never having used it) and was told company policy is all electronics are not returnable. The cashier said she asked someone in back (presumbably a manager) and no dice, no discussion. Nothing on the website in purchasing the unit says it's not returnable. Nothing on the receipt says it's not returnable. Only informs to check the return/refund policy online...on a receipt you get AFTER you've purchased. Now I'm quite po'd that I purchased a unit that does not do what i thought and will never use as intended, AND Advance Auto does not disclose the "not returnable" until AFTER you've made a purchase. I went to this hole a few months ago and left without purchasing what I came for because the service counter pions thought it best to either hide out in the back, serve the women or their friends. Very dishonest and rude people. I had two incidents with these people: 1 - I wanted them to recharge my car battery. After half an hour, the associate brought the battery back and said this battery is not holding charge and needs to be replaced. I don't think this person charged the battery at all and just told me that the battery is not holding charge. The battery was not warm either. I had gotten this battery checked at the car dealer just a couple of days prior and was told that the battery is good and just needs a full recharge. 2 - I ordered the battery online (got a good discount) and went to this store to pick it up. When I got there, they told me that the order has been cancelled for no apparent reason and they wanted me to pay the whole amount. I talked to the manager - she said she can't do anything to give me the same online rate. Upon calling the customer service, I found out that the store cancelled my order because they were out of stock! I asked the web representative to restore my order because the store had the battery (which they were trying to sell me at full price). When the rep was doing that, he talked to the manager and then the store manager said that she knew how to give me the online discounted rate! After talking to the customer service representative, when the manager was completing my transaction, she was visibly very upset and said, "you are wasting my time". If she and her employees had rightfully honored my online order, this wouldn't have happened. After saying that she just left the battery at the counter and walked off asking me to take it and leave. When I asked them to install it, they first said that they could not attend to me, and then made me wait for a long time stating that there are only 2 of them in the store and they need to take care of other customers (which was not the case when she was trying to sell me the battery at full price). Within a minute, I saw 3 other employees walking around. This store is supposed to provide free recharging and battery installation services (the latter with purchase). I now realize that in this mess, my 3-yr warranty may have been screwed. read more

Man!!!!! If I could rate this place a negative 5 I would. I don't want to go so far as to call these people incompetent, because I don't know if their lack of skill spans auto parts but in THIS SECTOR (auto) they have no idea what's happening. My boyfriend went to get his battery charged and before walking into this establishment he said "watch, as soon as anyone comes in they walk to the back". Imagine my amazement when as soon as we walked in both of the employees make a B line to the back. So we're waiting there and this guy finally comes up. He cleaned the battery terminals pretty well so I was pretty confident he would be able to charge the battery. I mean, WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? RIGHT? WRONG!!! OMG, we went back the next day after doing that 24 hours battery charging and the SAME DUDE goes back and retrieves a battery. Who's battery was this? It wasn't ours! Dude goes back again, comes back and says "I think they recycled your battery" o_o. My boyfriend was like why would they recycled it if it was charging? So he ends up going back with the guy to look for the battery, only to find it on the floor. And wouldn't you know, it wasn't even charged. THIS guy was like, so what do you wanna do? What the heck do you think we want to do? Charge the battery!!! So we ended up doing the 30 minute charge and it charged completely. So, we've been to this auto parts a few times because it's close to my bf's house and every time we go the employees are on some bull. Came here to get transmission fluid. They had ATF-Z1 mixed in with CVT transmission fluid on the shelf, but you wouldn't know it without closely examining the bottles because they're almost identical. Unfortunately my mechanic didn't notice until after he had already poured 2 quarts of ATF-Z1 in my car and poured in a little of the CVT fluid. This resulted in me having to walk to a nearby auto parts store and buy 3 extra quarts of ATF-Z1 so I could get my car home. My transmission still wasn't behaving quite right so I had to order more fluid online and have my mechanic change the transmission fluid a second time. I couldn't get any of my money back because I lost my receipt, so that's my own fault. But seriously, how hard is it for their employees to check the labels on merchandise before putting it on the shelf? That's common sense. read more

We had a pleasant experience with Advanced Auto Parts in Rockville. We called ahead of time to ask for a quote on an alternator and was on hold for about 8 minutes. Granted it was July 4th, so they were probably short staffed. They were the only store with the Toyota alternator in stock so we made our way over and was serviced in about 3 minutes. The discount of 20% was timely, and we appreciate the quick, courteous service. Dealing with trustworthy and responsive people are important in auto, so I would recommend giving this store a chance if you're in the area. read more

So, my car wouldn't start and luckily I was stuck in this shopping center. My husband and I walked to Advanced Auto Parts and one of the employees was nice enough to check my battery, and power it back up. He informed us of a cost effective solution and we purchased a battery charger with the specific Watts for what my car needed. I have had no problems since charging it last night.
