I came here to get an engine (OBD-II) code scanning after my engine light came on. I actually had visited the Wheaton location first, but they sent me to this location after they said their scanners weren't working. I came after work and the area is quite congested. This Advance Auto Parts entrance is located right near the main Bel Pre Road, so it gets blocked by a lot of cars waiting on the traffic light to exit the plaza. There was steady business when I rolled in around 7pm. Only one guy was manning the register - they seemed understaffed. When I requested the OBD-II scanning, they advised they would be with me in a moment - they had to assist the other customers in line first. Eventually, another staff member came to assist. He brought the scanner out and gave simple directions of what to do with the car. He told me the diagnosis and showed me the first page of the screen. I do wish he was more thorough... there were seven pages of information to read on the scanner, but he brushed off the other six and chocked it up to a spark plug issue. I do appreciate the free services that Advance Auto Parts offer, and I'll credit this location for actually having working scanners. Service from all staff members was friendly, and the technician who did my reading did check to see if he could help me with anything else. My objective was just to get a quick reading, but it might've been a little "too quick" for my liking. read more

I knew what I wanted on this visit and the employee asked if I needed assistance (I did). I was there to get a pair of wiper blades and had remembered (some time ago) getting wipers from the same location - of course prices have increased over the years. I decided to stick with the same brand I had gotten before, as it lasted for a while. It was just a matter of selecting the right one. There were 3 types to select from so I asked the differences between them. With the helpful information I received, I was able to make a final decision on which one to get. I also got a cover for my steering wheel. I felt it needed to be replaced. I asked for assistance in putting on the blades, even though I could have probably figured it out on my own, but the service is there, and I got it. Thanks to Berki for assisting me. The counter dude is not really friendly person . I don't need to be bow down for me l just wanna to buy and leave . Bought a high quality bulb based on Managers advice since vehicle with not with me, which turned out to be the wrong item, and was told the next day I couldn't return if packet was opened. There's no return policy on receipt nor was I warned before purchasing the more expensive item. read more

Sales representative, African woman with long pink hair, was extremely rude and unprofessional. I needed to exchange a brake light bulb that the previous sales representative from this store sold me. She excused me of providing the wrong description to the previous sales representative so it wasn't the rep's fault. I told her that I gave her the model, make, and year of the vehicle. Instead of politely and quickly exchange the wrong light bulb which the correct one, with a nasty attitude she initially refused to give me a refund and reprimandingly explain the refund and exchange policies. Today after getting out of the hospital with a hernia I had to jump start my car. Knowing I was going to be bed ridden I went to this advanced auto parts store to have the battery checked or replaced. Robert checked the battery and said it was good, but needed recharging. I said O K. Please recharge it. After 40 minutes I was told for the first time in 15 years that I had to bring it in. I explained that I have a heart condition and cannot lift it and I have a hernia that is healing. I showed them both the hanging disabled permit and the card. The manager Jazmine said that since I am not purchasing a battery that corporate would not approve it. Robert was stunned and offered to do it, but I did not want him risking his job. I told her I would be filing a complaint with the District manager and others and she said thanks for letting me know so I went to AutoZone and Christian M. took care of me. Once upon a time they were Blockbusters EVERYWHERE almost like Starbucks you could barely throw a stone with out hitting one. Fast forward a few years Blockbuster are now disappearing all over the place due to a sign of the times. On-Demand, Netflix, Internet, bad economy etc. many things to blame. So what to do with the old stores? How about putting in an Advance Auto Parts store. Now even I the car nut get these confused with Auto Zone but that's another story. Brand spanking new this location is for Advance Auto Parts, that use to be a Blockbuster and before that a Track Auto, appears ... well in fact brand spanking new. Everything is in order, in place, easy to find, neat, clean and tidy just the way a store should look always. Although they have reduced greatly the sq footage of the very large Blockbuster that use to occupy the space previously. I wonder how long will it be before it looks like some of the other locations. Like a tornado hit them with oil stains all over the place cruddy dust and dirt and reeking like a septic tank. New locations stores always place their strongest most motivated managers and employees at first but usually it does not take long for that to change. Today I was greeted by a highly motivated guy very helpful and quite talkative with a relaxed pleasant and smiling personality and knowledgeable in product and cars. Which should be a prerequisite for working in this type of place. Good thing to find this in an employee who works for very little wages in a place where they are not appreciated as individuals and are asked crazy questions all day and put up with sometimes the most crotchety customers that one could be burden with. I know I use to work retail in another life back in collage. I could not tell if a manager was there or not but so far they are up to snuff with the overall appearance of the store and hiring good workers. I would suggest go there now for all your auto needs before the place becomes a mess and the employees become bitter, lazy, unmotivated, unfriendly and uncaring. read more

So far so good. I've had three encounters at this branch/outlet over as many years, and every one has been positive. First was having a battery tested and buying a replacement. EZPZ. In and out of the store in under half an hour, new battery installed and on my way. Staff was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, ready to help and did. Second was buying an oil pressure gauge online. In and out in under ten minutes. Last time was about 3 months ago, another car battery. This one had died, wouldn't take a charge/turn over truck, but NAPA service said no problem not the battery so I took it down the road to AAP for a second opinion and their tester said it was dead. It was warrantied, company sent another one out that day. Again, staff, young woman whose name I don't recall, was very helpful, friendly. Another quick visit, not that they weren't busy, but things were running smoothly, and I was more than happy with the place. Parking/getting in and out of the lot's a bit weird, but otherwise okay. I'm heading out there in about ten minutes for some small electrical parts, even though it's about three miles out of my way - they have the parts in stock, and I've had good experiences there and want to reward that. I've shopped at this business quite frequently. Today I was totally blown away at the failure of the manager to resolve a simple problem. I had previously purchased a set of bulbs for my brake lights. The service was quite good. The clerk was pleasant and polite. When my mechanic installed the bulbs, one was not working. He placed another set in the car and suggested that I return the faulty product. Again, the clerk was pleasant and helpful when I explained the problem to her. She could not find a replacement (they were all out). I asked for a refund to my credit card (I had the receipt). She called the manager and I was dumbfounded by his remarks. He said that the package was opened so he could not issue a refund. If the package wasn't opened, how would one come to the conclusion that the bulb was not working. Is there there a way to do this without opening the package? If there is, will someone please inform the public. I made a call to the Sylvania company right there in the store and they too were flabbergasted by this reasoning from the manager. They offered to refund me the cost of the bulb after they receive the defective product in he mail at their expense. DOES SOMEONE NEED A BIT OF RETRAINING?? I HOPE SO. Absolutely the worst customer service ever. Bought a wrench to unscrew oil filter cap. It did not fit. Went back to the store to return the next day. Alfredo the manager said that I can't return it. Receipt didnt say anything about the return policy. I would recommend shopping elsewhere. read more
