It was a rainy day in May when the distributor coil went out on my 89 Mustang. Now, I've been a…read moreloyal customer of AutoZone for over 20 years. I even worked there in my early 20s when I lived in Texas. But today when I called AZ not only did they not have the part I needed, they couldn't even get it. Ugh! Reluctantly and without much confidence I called Advance. Lo and behold I was surprised to find that they had TWO in stock! I told them I'd be right there. I drove my husband's truck to pick up the part but when I walked into the store and said I was the one who just called about the distributor coil the guys behind the counter asked if I was in the right store. I looked around and said, "This *is* Advance Auto Parts, right??" and they said "Yeah, but there's another one right across the street". What?? One of them explained that it used to be another chain auto parts store but Advance had bought them out and now the one across the street (the one I called and was *supposed* to go to) was the commercial store for that area but they do have a small retail selection. OK that's super weird, but anyway... I drove across the street and when I entered the store the associates were, again, courteous and helpful and when I asked for zip ties one of them even came out from behind the counter and walked me over to where they were rather than just telling me where to find them. Now that's customer service! When I got home my husband installed the part in no time and promptly realized we also needed the control module for the distributor. Ugh! So I called them back up and sure enough they had it in stock. I drove back and when I walked in the manager, Kevin, already had my account pulled up and was ready to ring me up! You've won me over, Advance. I can't promise I will never go to AutoZone again, but I can say that I will definitely be back.

I never write reviews but I had to for this. The manager Maddie was super kind and her customer…read moreservice was beyond 100%. James, who did my breaks explained everything to a T and being a woman I didn't feel taken advantage of with not knowing what my car needed. These two deserve a raise! They were absolutely wonderful and made a tough day a little easier for me! Thanks to them!!! They deserve the recognition of their kindness and helpfulness!

Well, after checking in, while waiting, I read all the one-star Yelp reviews. I told the employee…read morethat he had bad reviews. He advised me that must be from the prior service managers, which I knew was a lie based on the dates of the review, unless they just changed within the last 10 days. I thought I may have needed a new battery, so I asked if I could get a diagnostic test, I was advised NO without an appointment. Well, because I feel I'm a mechanic, I said okay I'll just buy a battery. I was advised they could put it in. Was told wouldn't take long, but it took over an hour. Maybe I'm just inpatient, but I thought an hour was long. The person helping me was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the battery obviously wasn't my problem, as I still have the same issue, so to the dealer I go. They also didnt know the car needed to reset after replacing the battery, so in the parking, like I had to google how to reset. Lessons learned. 1. Im not a mechanic. 2- Some things you just need to stick with the dealer. I'm not sure about pricing, but it cost me 250.00 for the battery and installation. I'm hoping that was a reasonable deal.
