I don't get the poor reviews here - my experience was fantastic. I was treated to some old-school problem-solving customer service, recently. I took a "hard to find" car key in to be copied. This key has been duplicated before and didn't work, so I came to Advance. I told the gentleman my story- that the first time I duplicated the key the copy didn't work, and he guaranteed that his copies would work or I wouldn't be charged. Okay. Get two copies, he asks me to go outside and test them before I drive off. They don't work. He comes out to my car with me, tests the lock itself - turns out the lock is frozen (I usually use the keyless entry, so I'd never know). He sprays some lubricant in it to try and free it, to no avail. The keys work in the passenger door and are meant as spares so I kept them, but he took the time to a) come outside and try to fix the problem and b) recommend the fix I need from the dealer (not something he can fix himself) as well as a few other options to getting the lock fixed. I'm a big fan of the kind of customer service that gets to the root of the problem and not just passes the buck. read more

These guys are great! I lost my spare and original truck key, they came out same day and had me on my way. The final price was actually lower than the estimate and were totally honest. Avoid. Duplicitous, manipulating, double-talking, and deceitful. Otherwise, a lovely experience, except for the rude demeanor on the phone and in person. Find someplace else. Floating prices, plus such old-fashioned bait and switch. It almost seems ludicrous how this place survives in today's competitive market. I'm a happy customer who's been coming here for several years and they've made a few house calls too. They are always very professional, super competent and know what they're talking about. They make key copies that always work, unlike some places in the same area. They're great at rekeying locks as well. I'm glad they're in the neighborhood! read more

I had a great experience with Advance Lock getting replacement Chrysler keys cut. The Chrysler dealer charges a minimum one hour labor to cut and code the encryption chip in the key, and some dealers make you buy the keys from them at over $145 each. I bought two keys on the Internet but two other key shops refused to cut them for me because of the encryption chip. The proprietor at Advance cut them without any hassle and they worked perfectly after I coded them to the car's anti-theft system in accordance with the vehicle owner's manual. Cost was $7.50 each including tax. Advance has convenient off-street parking if you turn into the alley behind the store and park in the small lot right next to the store's south wall. They are associated with the key duplicating service kiosk in the 7-11 parking lot a block south at Lincoln and Washington, where I've also had great service getting special keys cut. However, the kiosk has more limited hours. read more

First off this is my first review, I am a long time user of Yelp and regularly use it to make decisions on where I choose to give my business. I felt compelled to write a review based on my horrible experience with this outfit and to warn anyone who might be thinking of going here. For the record this has to be one of the worst experiences I have ever had dealing with a company in my entire life. I brought in a lock that needed to be re-keyed and the guy at the counter was not pleasant or extremely motivated to be helpful in any way (this should have been my first clue to go somewhere else). He said he would call me when it was ready. I picked it up the next day, installed it, put in my key and the lock cylinder fell out. When I brought back the lock within the hour they said it wasn't their problem and then accused me of doing something to the lock to make it fall out...really? I am saddened by the lack of customer service these days, but this takes the proverbial cake by accusing the customer and not taking responsibility for their shoddy work. No refund and ultimately did nothing to remedy the situation, I was literally left holding nothing but an inoperable lock in one hand and a clenched fist in the other. My only recourse and solace is to warn anyone from doing business with them and hope they aren't around much longer to do this to anyone else (which should hopefully happen soon with their business practices and attitude towards their customers). If you don't heed my warning and go to Advance Lock & Key anyway don't say I didn't warn you! With all the great locksmiths out there don't even take a chance, go with a reputable company that has a good track record of treating their customers well. The Key to a successful business is to do a professional job and make sure your customers are happy, not to take their money, lock them out and leave them in the cold... It was the best thing to ever happen because I love the service and expertise I have received at Advance Lock and Key. We're a 24 Unit condominium building and have used Advance for numerous years. They have always been attentive to our needs when locks have been broken or keys jammed. I just bought a house and had all of the locks changed, and I was very pleased with my experience with Advance. The man who came out was extremely professional and resourceful. I had an aluminum sliding glass door that was not really meant to be keyed, but when I asked if it was possible so that I could use it as a separate entrance, he found a way to drill into the frame and install a new lock that looks like it was part of the original door hardware. Very reasonable prices too. Highly recommended. read more

Came in with security keys to get duplicated (the company hads its security keys made there). Didn't have time to wair and was told to come back in a couple of hours. When I returned, the keys weren;t done and the S**thead replied "I forgot! I told him that was discourtious and I would not use them if I had a choice. He asked me to leave.
