I had an awful experience with this locksmith service and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. I was locked out of my apartment and scared because I was alone and my roommate was out of town. The technician arrived and opened my door in less than a minute. Nothing was drilled, broken, or replaced -- he simply manipulated the bottom lock with his tools and the door opened. I was then charged $700. I felt completely taken advantage of. In a stressful situation, I trusted that I was dealing with an honest company, but the price was wildly disproportionate to the amount of work performed. What has been even more frustrating is the lack of follow-up afterward. I have called every day asking to speak with a manager, left my phone number multiple times, and each time I'm told that someone will call me back. No one ever does. Called for service and the service charge to come out is $30. I looked up rates and given the slow charge to come out, I thought the most I would pay would be $200/250. The rate he first quoted me to break the lock and replace was $700!! It was a full lie of what he needed to do and I on several times said I will just pay the service charge and he can leave. He was persistent and we negotiating down significantly to $350, still a rip off, but was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. The whole process felt sleazy, opportunistic and NOT GOOD BUSINESS. As a disabled Veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE SCAMMERS!! It angers me to have this business try to take advantage of people in a crisis. My front door lock was broken by a painter who redid my front door. I called Ocean Park and explained the front door hardware no longer worked and it maybe the spring. Benjamin showed up took the cover plate off and took the spring mechanism and said he needed a special tool to open it up that's in his car. Before he did that he said it will cost me $275 to replace each spring (two springs $550). He walks out and comes back two minutes later and says yeah both springs are broken and shows me a leaf spring and a coil spring, saying this is broken. These two springs don't even look like the long springs in the rectangular egress cartridge. I ask him for $550 I want to see the broken springs. He then said it will be $550 plus another $100 for tax and labor. A total of $650!! We walk to his car then back into the house where his backpack is and he pulls out a flat head screw driver and starts to pry the plates apart. I'm totally suspecious of this guy now. I said for $650 i can get a brand new lock set. Benjamin then says this is an expensive lock set Baldwin, this is a $1800 lock set. I can repair it for $650 or you can buy a new one. I tell him "stop!", I don't want him to fix anything. Your lying to me you never opened it up and a screw driver isn't "special tool". I told him to put the cover plate back on and leave. I paid him the $29 for showing up. After he left I searched on Amazon and found replacement part for $63!! These guys will scam you and steal from you because your in a bind with your locks. My next step is to report them to the Better Business Bureau and the Long Beach PD for fraudulent deception and price gauging. Then follow up and file a complaint to the California Attorney General's office. After filing my complaint I'm going to let all the local Veteran's organizations to stay away from this deceptive business. read more

My final ask was $540 -- simply the difference between the agreed upon price and what I was actually charged. People should know how greedy and unscrupulous this company is. Instead of fixing their overcharge, they tried to buy my silence -- which says it all ORIGINAL POST: I feel it's important to warn others about my experience with Ocean Park Lock & Key. I was charged $1,700 for a non-emergency job that should have been far more reasonable. This included drilling my lock, replacing two locks, and charging me $300 for four basic keys--copies I could have made down the street for a few dollars each. That alone tells you where the priorities are. I'll admit my part in this: I'm guilty of letting the work start even though the price felt high. But that doesn't excuse the complete lack of transparency or the excessive pricing. A professional with integrity would have guided me, given me options, or at least been honest about what was truly necessary and what wasn't. Instead, when I questioned the charges afterward, I was dismissed and called a "complainer." That's not only inaccurate--it's unprofessional. I'm not someone who nitpicks or complains; I'm someone who expects straightforward, ethical service. It's obvious this company is motivated purely by what they can extract in the moment, not by building trust or long-term customer relationships.
