Very honest people work here & have great customer service. I needed a new car key after Costco tires retuned my key warped, I went to my car dealership to get a new key & they told me I could buy a key from them, but would have to get it cut by a locksmith ($10) & then bring it back to program the key. In search for a locksmith, I called around to various places & some quoted me $100, which is wayyy over what i was told I should be paying. I finally called Advance Lock & Key, they told me it would be $5 for a regular one and $40 for a laser cut. I was so relieved that they listened to my request & provided me with a very reasonable quote. I was very shocked that they told me that they would not be responsible if the key didn't work... After asking them to explain, I leaned that since I didn't purchase the key from them, they could not guarantee the key. I opted to have a test key made from a blank & tested it on my car. It worked & so I had them do the expensive key. They said they could program the key too for $80 & I was a bit skeptical because it was my first time there. They explained to me the programming process & brought my car to the back of their shop & they programmed it for me. After testing it several times, I was thrilled that it worked & that I saved $300 by going to Advance Key & Lock verses the dealership. David was the guy who helped me & I highly recommend him! Took my car because the steering wheel the guy said 100 dls. I told him to fix it. They came to pick up the car and took it to his place. Later that day he calls me and said that the column was broke and it was going to be an extra 150 dls. I told him to go ahead and fix it. The call me the next day saying that the car was ready and brought it to my house. My wife pay them 250. When I get home from work. I checked the car the problem was still there. I called the guy and told him what was going on. He said that he fixed something. I told him I didn't bring it for u to fix something I brought u the car to fix it with what I had told u. He took it back. And he went and fix it. He said he replaced another part now. The column was fixed but now the beam lights want able to change. The turn signal was real hard. I call him on his cell phone. He said that the car came in like that. Which was a lie. I picked up the car from the electric before I took it to him and I told him that. Bottom line. I will never take any work to this people again. And wouldn't recomen them at all. They don't know what they're doing. Instead of him saying bring me the car back to see what's wrong. I am not one to write a negative review however the truth is I've never experienced such rude behavior on behalf of any company when trying to explain an issue related to a problem as simple as "the lock on our door is not working properly and we would like to have it repaired." We contacted ALK to help us a few days ago because for the longest time our lock has been very sticky. Richard Hardy who I will say was very professional, stern and knowledgeable for that matter, came over from the shop and had come to help us re-keyed the locks to resolve the issue. The new keys worked perfectly fine until a few days later when we found ourselves locked out of the house because the door would not unlock. Not placing any blame on Richard because he fixed what was wrong but prior to the issue we never got locked out of the house the way we were before the locks were repaired. So I called ALK to ask if they could have a look at the issue for us again and another service Technician arrived and I'm sad that I was never given a name or a card but before I could explain my reason for the call and what the problem was he felt that all I was doing was blaming them for the problem to get out of paying them for the repair which I will admit I did not expect that they would think that we would owe them anything to fix an issue that we never had before they came by the first time. This technician allowed his frustrations to keep us from having any casual conversation and anytime I wanted to explain what the problem was he continued to defend why it wasn't their companies fault and kept accusing me of interrupting him from talking. After apologizing to him for feeling interrupted by me he went on to say, "Look you don't want to hear me out so I'm not helping you out" Again I apologized and said look let's work out our differences here and he refused to and said "I'm outta here" It was as if I was trying to do business with a 4 year old. He felt like he wasn't getting his side of the story across so he gave up. Honestly, we're the customer here so really the only side of the story is, we have a problem, you guys were the last to help us with it, and the problem has now escalated since the last time and without being mean about it, we asked if we could have them by to look at it. Instead the first words out of their mouth was, "well the lock is sticking because... well at least it shouldn't cost you a lot to repair." Truly upsetting over a non-issue. read more

Called another Locksmith to come out to fix my sliding glass door with a key stuck in it. They said it would be 80$ to remove the key and give me a new cylinders and re-key so I could use the same key. 80$? seemed a bit high so I said that I would take a pass since I had a feeling that was too high. I was going to ask about another lock but they huffed off when I said I didn't want them to do the 80$ job. I took the lock handle, stuck key and all, and drove to my local locksmith , Advance Lock & Key Keys & Locksmiths in Marina Del Rey. They re-keyed the new cylinder and charged me only 30$!!!!!!!! They told me that if they had they come out to my house they would have charged an extra 10$ to reinstall the lock for a grand total of 40$ for parts and labor. Half of what the other guys wanted to charge me. They took the time to explain to me how to reinstall the lock which was very nice of them. So I saved 50$ by going to Advance. It's now working like a charm :) read more

If you ever need any keys copied, Lincoln Hardware is a block and a half down the street from this place; they are kind and willing to help customers. In short: Avoid these guys. The worst of all worlds: Arrogant, rude and condescending (Owner: David), and their work is overpriced and sometimes has errors. Difficult to get things redone because the arrogant owner doesn't stop talking for a minute to actually listen to the customer. So, when you leave their store, you feel ripped off and annoyed, like, "Why did I pay to be argued with?" Lousy service, I switched to Santa Monica Lock and Safe at 2208 Pico. A lot further for me to drive, but these Santa Monica guys are great: quality work, with no attitude, at a reasonable price. I've actually had to have work from Advance redone in Santa Monica, and come to find out that Santa Monica Lock & Safe does some of Advance's back room work! I was referred to this business for help making keys for the school I work for. I drove all the way from Santa Clarita to arrive at a locked door. The hours listed stated they were still open so I gave them a call. They decided to close early and failed to put a sign on the door to let customers know. Went to this locksmith because it was close to home. I needed a lock rekeyed , was quoted a price which included two keys . The man asked to see the key and said it was a common key . When the locksmith got here he quoted a higher price and told me it was an old lock and needed a "special" key. He didn't have the keys on his truck and needed to go to the shop. I told him I wanted extra keys and he said it is 4.00 per key because it was a special key. I told him forget it. He did give me two keys but I had to pay a higher price than I was quoted. After he left I went to Dick's True Value Hardware and got the "special" keys for 92 cents each!! read more

I used Advance this past week to rekey a mailbox lock. They were referred by my realtor, who uses them regularly. I called around and their price was competitive, so I had them come out. They let me pick the time and arrived exactly on time. I also asked about getting a key for our gate - the guy had the master key for it, but wasn't able to make copies from his truck - so... he let me keep the key and take it to the shop (around the corner) the next day for copies. These guys were super helpful in getting my specialty chip key for my jeep wrangler keyed and programmed, along with the keyless entry. I had two keys that I needed done and they only charged me for one. When I double checked the price, they said that the fee was just for getting the code from my jeep to be able to do the programming for the key so they didn't need to charge me for both, even though they cut and programmed both keys. It was super nice of them to do that without me even asking for their help on the pricing. I've been there once before for another key issue and I got the same amazing service from them.
