I first went to see Dr. Shur in Nov 2017 for hip joint pain that was just getting worse and had started to affect both hips. I had just assumed I'd be looking at hip replacement but after one treatment with Dr. Shur, almost like magic the pain and discomfort was gone. She adjusted me and gave me inserts for my gym shoes. I even took up running again and the hip pain has never returned. Now 10 months later, my back is starting to give me grief for the first time, so I went to Dr. Shur and found all sorts of things out of kilter so she spent almost an hour with me and put me back together. This place is good for care as the others have reviewed. Dr. Jaimie Torromeo does amazing work and is great to work with! She did her best to help with the below issue as well. If the rating was for Jaimie, it would be 5 stars! However, the rating for this review is for the front office staff and their billing person, Hilda. Not only is Hilda rude, the front desk staff is as well. Not one of them can explain why they bill the way they do or explain the amounts that are owed. When you finally can get ahold of Hilda and question how she bills, she's extremely rude, talks in circles and can't explain the manner in which she bills your insurance. Instead of her or any of the front office staff telling you that you are out of network, they just make you pay up front and then pay again when you get a check from your insurance company. Most places get paid by the insurance directly as they did with my insurance but some how my husband was paid by his insurance to him and then he would have to pay yet again. Once we reviewed all the EOBs and reconciled what he paid, we learned he overpaid due to how Hilda does her work. Due to this his FSA account is now out of money to cover any other medical expenses. I too was overcharged and when I called, Hilda wanted me to provide my EOB! When I explained the insurance paid them directly and she could check their records of payment, she got quiet. I explained I shouldn't have to show her my EOB to show how they were paid, she said oh well you now have a credit. I asked if they had a credit, why didn't anyone contact me. If I had not called would they ever tell me they owed me money back? Hilda could not explain so I asked asked for a refund to which she said I gave a credit. I told her I haven't been back since the appointment on 1/30 and due to the hassle with my husbands multiple appointments and confusing billing, and now this, I wouldn't be back. Now I just hope I actually get my refund so my husband and I can finally be done with her and this billing nightmare! If you don't know how insurance billing works and that the EOB you get from your insurance should match what you owe and should pay, then I would avoid going here. Hopefully, this will help others to avoid the cost, time and hassle we experienced. read more

Dr. Drew Nystrom's knowledge in Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine and Dietary Therapy has been nothing but a blessing to me. I have been a patient of advanced wellness center for about a decade now. I suffer multilevel herniated disc which from time to time produce almost paralyzing spasm. For regular monthly chiropractic adjustment, augmented by acupuncture and can kinesiology based nutrition to reduce inflammation, I have successfully dropped anti-inflammatory medication, and returned to playing tennis. When there is a flareup the team gets me back on the tennis court within about 10 days maximum. Their care has been supported by my orthopedist and contributed to the ongoing avoidance of any surgical alternative. Mark Dedubovey and Barbara Shur offer two different styles of chiropractic neither of which utilizes forced adjustments, and balance my treatment depending upon the circumstance. I have been coming here for several years and a multitude of reasons, and this place is amazing. I have worked with both Dr. Mark and Dr. Fuhrman, and they are both incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated. Both docs are good listeners and truly address the injury and the cause in their treatment. During my pregnancy, my sciatic nerve has been excruciatingly painful to the point in which I could barely walk. I drove back to Long Beach from Ventura to get Dr. F's opinion, and he somehow made the pain go away. Going to Dr. Mark with three decades of having this problem unresolved didn't discourage Dr. Mark. He was incredibly thoughtful, knowledgeable, creative and compassionate and, although we weren't able to resolve my situation, we both agreed that it wouldn't be beneficial to continue.
