After all the recent storms I knew I needed to get a new roof because it's been over due. I called multiple roofing companies but one thing that set this company apart is they do TPO which was the better material for my roof considering it's a flat roof. It was a little more on the pricey side but the lifetime warranty is well worth it. They do get very busy which is understandable because they are excellent at what they do. (Please be patient) Ron was a pleasure to work with he came out and communicated the work every step of the way. On the day of the job the crew was on time and completed the work in 3 days. These guys are great! I met with Luis because our roof was starting to get old and was beginning to have leaks in the garage and moisture in our ceilings. He was very responsive and was able to come by my home and check it out right away. After my initial appointment, he said he would come back in a week to give me a presentation and a quote. When Luis came back a week later, I was thoroughly impressed! He and his team came back with a PowerPoint presentation, explaining the nitty gritty details about our roof, along with all their roofing licensing. These guys are legit! He even took pictures of our roof and explained in detail what needed to be fixed. We asked for an inspection on our roof after a leak in late 2021 from the heavy rains. Ron came out and spent time answering questions and explaining the process, pointing out areas that might need attention. He was quick to say that although our roof was more than 15 years old it did not need any work at the moment, showing that the flashing around our vents was in good shape, and there was no evidence of standing water. He even gave some advice on fixing or repairing our skylights and how we could do that ourselves. We asked for a quote on a couple options, including having some work done on an interior courtyard, but have not heard back yet. AWESOME! I contracted with Advantage to replace my old roof in preparation for a solar installation.. Ron and the team were timely, professional, thorough, and did exactly what they said they would do when they said they would do it. The city building permits were final before they asked for final payment! The entire experience, from the estimate process through to the closure of the permit was smooth and everyone I worked with represented pride in Advantage Roofing. As a side note, this was a competitive bid (5 separate companies) with a high quality shingle and included a double roof tear off (metal over wood shake). I understand that roofing contractors are busy with this unusual rainy season in the Bay Area, but I have to say that I am disappointed with the professionalism of Advantage Roofing. I was referred to this company by my neighbors who had their roof done 5 years ago and was told that Advantage Roofing, inc was amazing. I called and left a message and within a few days, David stopped by to look at my roof. He was very nice and told me that they were extremely busy, but was going to give me a quote and we would go from there. After a week passed, I followed up with David via email and phone. I was able to get on the phone again and ask for the quote which he told me he was going to send it shortly. Three weeks have passed and despite a couple of follow-ups after that, I never got the quote. I understand you are busy, but when a customer is willing to pay over $20K to have a roof replaced, I'd think the least you can expect is good customer service... My husband & I appreciate the excellent work done by Advantage Roofing in tearing out our old roof, repairing & replacing all dry rot-visible & substrate, putting on a new TPO lifetime warrantied roof, cleaning up after completion to our satisfaction and only asking for the total payment after the work was completed except for the deposit. They are extremely busy, so it is a bit difficult to get a hold of someone in their office. Maybe hire a part-time admin person to handle your phone calls. I've had a troublesome downspout for as long as I've been in this house and after the most recent, heavier-than-usual rains, decided it was about time to do something about it. I called and emailed numerous roofers, but Advantage was the only one willing to talk through the symptoms on the phone (even with the garbage connection that AT&T put us through). Ultimately, I was told this was more likely the type of work for a plumber since the downspout connected to the sewage line, but boy did I appreciate someone just talking me through the possible issues and solutions. I ultimately ended up just biting the bullet and climbing up on the roof myself, only to find an old plastic water bottle blocking the pipe. From the first call, where someone spent an hour on the phone with me patiently answering my extensive questions, to execution of the work & cleaning up, Advantage was top notch. They insulated & put TPO on part of our roof & replaced a number of skylights. We've noticed a huge improvement on hot days - our top floor got so hot without insulation & now it stays much cooler. My wife and I recently purchased a house. It was a fixer-upper, with an absolute mess of a downstairs and... a leaky roof. The previous home owner had the roof patched up by Saber Roofing (http://www.yelp.com/biz/saber-roofing-woodside), but apparently the job was not done well enough since we were still finding leaks all over the house when a few light storms came our way. The house changed hands, and the leaky roof became our problem. Saber Roofing supposedly guarantee their work, but when I called them to come re-patch their patch job, their receptionist looked up our file and muttered, "Oh... the owner says that particular job was pretty difficult. He says to leave your number with us and he'll get back to you." Riiiight. They never did get back to us. We called them again to get a quote on an entire roof replacement instead of a patch job and they gave us a quote for nearly $10,000. It was time to search for alternatives. We asked our contractor who is currently remodeling our downstairs area for a quote: $7,000. We then stumbled upon Advantage Roofing here on Yelp. I spoke to Dave (the owner and the guy you'll talk to when you call the business number), set up an inspection, hung out on our roof for a while, and got a quote for $6,250 all in the same day. The time on our roof was well spent. Dave taught me about how the gravel on our roof was there to protect the oily coating from the sunlight. Over time, the oily coating reacts to the sunlight, breaks down, and partially evaporates. Without the oily coating, the roof becomes vulnerable to moisture. I also learned that what may look like a flat-topped roof is actually built at a very slight incline so that any water on the roof will simply flow down instead of pooling. Learning is fun! It took a few weeks to get the job done after signing the contract, but that was only because we had to dodge a couple of storms and Thanksgiving week. When the roofing guys finally came, it only took a day and a half to replace the roof. If you happen to be home during a roofing job, you should know that it is very loud and Dave's guys will play music. Fortunately, their choice of music was actually not bad and the sounds and voices of a bunch of guys laughing and having a good time while on the job is actually kind of charming. The folks at Advantage Roofing are friendly, work quickly, bombard you with honesty, and work at cheaper rates than their competitors. I was told that they are not hurting for business and they have many clients, so I would speculate that this quantity of work that Advantage Roofing is enjoying is passed down to the customer and results in cheaper job quotes. This is the second time I've called upon the services of Michael at Advantage Roofing, and both times proved an equally pleasant experience. After the big storms (Jan '08) the kitchen ceiling developed a leak that was pretty substantial. With more rain in the forecast, and a looming business trip taking me overseas, I was pretty desperate to get this remedied quickly. If extensive work is needed, it will be reported to the owner and followed with a detailed written estimate. This service will be completed once yearly, and you are required to be home during this service. Roofing maintenance is completed on a time and material basis. Labor is charged at $75.00 per man-hour. We usually send 2 men ($150.00 per hour) plus materials. There is a minimum charge of $150.00. The time begins when the crew arrives, there is no charge for travel time." I am deeply concerned with the work your company completed at my home in December 2017. Tenants were living in our home and reported a leak. We asked your company to come out and provide us information about next steps. Your company sent an employee by the name of Luis who reviewed the leak but we were never provided a 23-point checklist reporting the current condition of our roof system in San Francisco. We were not given a receipt or detailed description of hours worked. I disagree that Luis worked the amount of hours to total a bill of $1600. We have no records of this. We were charged $1600 for a patch job and not provided with any of the above items your website guarantees. We were also told by Luis that your company does not accept Visa card payments so my husband was asked to be given a cash payment. My husband gave your employee Luis $600 in cash and then was told to pay the rest to California Shingle and Shake. In reviewing California Shingle and Shake I determined this business is not licensed by the California State License Board. Why would we be paying another company for the work Advantage Roofing was claiming to have done? On December 21, 2017 my credit card was charged $1000 by California Shingle and Shake for the supposed work completed. Therefore, making the total amount payed for this job $1600. After this we never received a detailed written estimate for follow up. We were simply told we needed a new roof. When we moved into to our home on February 26, 2018 after the tenants moved out we opened up the wall where the leak was and found that there was water damage and the roof was continuing to leak in the same place your company had agreed to patch. When we contacted Advantage Roofing we were told someone would come out to take a look at the roof on March 19, 2018. However, your employee Luis simply didn't not show up. When my husband called Luis he said he "forgot" and needed to look at his notes and would get back to us. Luis failed to get back to us so we followed up with him. He said he would not be coming back out because we need a new roof and indicated he didn't have to come back. We found this to be rude and unprofessional. When I personally called Luis and confronted him he agreed it was unprofessional that he had forgotten to come out to our home and said he would come back to look at the roof that Monday or Tuesday. However, he never showed up On March 26, 2018 my dad contacted the CEO Mr. David Taylor, and he agreed to send your best guy (Joe) out to look at the previous work done and fix the patch. Joe came on Monday April 2, 2018. I am not sure if he did anything other than put sealant on the roof because on April 6, 2018 it rained pretty hard and the roof was still leaking. I find the efforts of your company to be sub par. We have also been way overcharged for the labor of this patch job according to the prices listed on your website. We have not received any of the written assessments such as the 23-point checklist and estimate for a new roof. We have had two other licensed roofing companies come out and review your work and they have expressed that the patch work on the roof is over 1 year old, leading me to assume your company did nothing. We find your efforts unprofessional and not up to the standards of what you represent on your website as well as what you have represented through your employees and your personal actions. I contacted Mr. Taylor privately and he never responded. I wouldn't have posted this here if Mr. Taylor responded. In regards to their response: I am still not sure why you never wrote up an estimate for a new roof or the 23-point plan your website guarantees. You mis represent yourself on your website. There were a few leaks, but they were very responsive and made every effort to go out there to fix it. Luis almost always picks up when I call/text him and he's a man of his word. Since there's actually nothing wrong with my skylight, the team declined my work request. However, the guy who answered my call (Mike? Dave?) was really nice and gave me PLENTY of advice on how to maintain the skylight, what damages to look for, even the best brands of caulk that I could buy myself! I have a roof I've maintained well over the years, but during a severe rainstorm I've had a recurring leak in one room. I hired well-reviewed roofers to tackle the problem; one charged me almost $2,000, but the problem kept recurring. Last Fall it happened again. I then had several roofers come out and was given estimates of over 10K to have a new roof put on. But Advantage (David Taylor) inspected the roof, said it was in good condition and that he thought a patch over one section probably would do the job. HE CHARGED ONLY $800 AND THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. He also said with continued maintenance I probably would not need a new roof! And if I chose to have a new roof, his estimate was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than anyone else's. I have a flat top roof and Ron came out for the estimate. (We did 5 estimates and they were in the middle as far as price goes) He was wonderful and explained the different options for my roof. I had a TPO roof applied and the guys were great. Worked hard and had the job done on time. There was some sloppiness with the caulking around the scuppers but it was corrected the next day. Even better: In the end, he said he didn't believe we needed any work, but he gave us an estimate for the remaining life of the roof and recommendations for future roofing options. Bottom line is we've got a nice looking new roof at a great price. David Taylor is a very nice guy and easy to work with. Demo was a little iffy - they took most everything off, but no one told me that I needed to cover areas beneath the skylights that day, so it was a total mess that ended up with tons of roofing materials and scuzz in our sink, toilet and built-in stovetop grill. It cleaned up pretty easily, though, and the demo was done quickly. The demo crew also put 8 nails in my house to hold their tarps, and a few days later I had to ask the roofers to pull the nails and spackle those for me - which they did, no problem. And then we bought a 2-story extension pole ($50) to paint over them ourselves. Annoying, but not a big deal. Roof went on great, and on time. It was 3 days to do a pretty big job. We went up on the roof the week after the job was done and discovered that there were some things that were still up there that were rusty and, in our opinion, should have been replaced. We also discovered that the gutters had been installed at the wrong angle and were holding water. Further, the installer had put all galvanized steel gutters in, even though I'd asked several times for aluminum wherever those would fit (3 of 5 gutters could've been aluminum.) - and sections of those gutters weren't painted. That means they would've rusted had we not gone onto the roof ourselves to check things out. Even though we discovered these problems after the work was done, Dave still had the gutter guy come back and redo some of the work. (He didn't do a great job the second time, either, but at least he came and did something). Dave also came over to paint two of the gutters we couldn't get at ourselves. He said he wouldn't use the same gutter installer again. Of course, that didn't get me those 3 aluminum gutters I feel I should have had since it was in my contract, but it was a fair response. Dave also had the roofer come back and put torch down bitumen over the long rusty strips of metal (maybe 8 feet on either side of our sloped roof peak) so that we wouldn't have to worry about them not being torn out and replaced. I appreciated that, and assume/hope it will work well as a fix. I would hire Dave again because his price was great and he was nice, and fixed the things he could. I think you can expect a good roof. There might be some glitches, but to us it was worth it to save the money right now. A pretty good experience overall. read more
