I visited the ER for a lupus tlare-up and left feeling disappointed with the care I received. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The biggest issue was communication. Throughout my stay, I felt that staff were not keeping me informed about what was happening, what the treatment plan was, or what the next steps would be[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. It seemed like there was limited communication among staft members, and I often had to ask questions to get basic information about my care. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also felt that some staff members lacked empathy and confidence when discussing my condition.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Because lupus can be a complex illness, I expected more understanding of my symptoms and concerns. Instead, I felt dismissed and uncertain about whether my condition was being fully evaluated. After spending approximately nine hours in the ER, I was discharged with the same pain and issues that brought me in. I left without feeling that my concerns had been adequately addressed or that I had a clear plan for managing my flare-up. They need some work. My dad went to the ER last week for shortness of breath and chest pain. He's currently battling cancer and his doctor at UCLA has been taking great care of him but this came out of no where. He was seen after waiting longer than he should have for chest pain. They did some lab work and did some CT scans. He arrived a little after 10am and was not seen by a doctor go to over his results and stuff until after 3pm. They finally admitted him because of fluid build up on the lungs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The nurses were very kind and attentive while we were there with him, that's the reason I gave them a second star.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, he was there for almost 3 days and barely got any sleep. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He said the nurses at the desk were watching videos or something and he could hear their videos and them laughing all night on top of them having to come check his blood sugar and everything every 2 hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That part is fine, they should be checking regularly but keeping patients up by laughing and watching videos is crazy. When he was in the hospital at UCLA they turned out the lights at night and the nurses never made a sound other than walking around to check on patients. I'm an Adventist patient myself and I really like my GP but this hospital needs to get some things in better order. The lobby looks dirty, only 1 elevator works right now, there is just a lot going on that needs improvement. Hopefully they get it together and make some positive changes soon. read more

My mother has a SEVERE allergy to nsaids, and tonight she went to the hospital ER. She came in to get her spine checked for pinched nerves, and was given an IV. The nurse gave her an NSAID along with a steroid on her IV. I would not do any lab procedure here, they made me pay an $800 copay upfront, said it was "all" the copay, then I got another bill for $1,100. They blamed it on my insurance, but my insurance paid over $9,000 for a procedure that was supposed to cost $5,000. We need a bill in CA to have firm costs for all procedures and lab work. Plus, the ability to shop for a lower price. I went to advantist healthcare Bakersfield.. I was admitted to have my gallbladder taken out. I was transferred there from another hospital.. and when I got there my gallbladder is infected!! They denied me pain meds for 3 and 1/2 hours when I got there!! I had to have two procedures so the second day I went back to the second floor and the ladies would not give me pain meds there either!!! My nurse said she wrote the nurses up downstairs!! My experience on 7/28 was very disappointing as I had a very good image of this hospital since I previously received amazing care in the labor and delivery department. However, this complaint is towards the ER nurses. After I was seen by the ER Neurology doctor, he told me my symptoms were due to my migraines. However I had to do blood work and tests to fill out a stroke. The nurses could not find my veins and poked me over 4 times until I asked not to be poked any longer. I was upset that they would poke me and could not find the vein. I asked what was still needed as they had already gotten the blood samples, they said it was for the IV to receive the medication. I stated I no longer had a headache and wanted to decline this portion of treatment. The nurse said NO and went against my personal rights. They poked me anyways after I said I was declining the medication. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Another nurse stated, "then why is she here."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was very concerned as to how quickly I was being judged so I asked my husband to tell security that I wanted to leave and no nurses would check in on me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When they were told I wanted to leave I could hear multiple nurses make comments about me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]None of them would come talk to me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The doctor finally came and asked if I was feeling better, I said yes and he happily said I was good to go. Last visit with my regular Adventist doctor I learned he could only spend 15 minutes with me and could hear 2 of my concerns, not 3. And since the required lab work wasn't ordered in advance, I would have to do it after that office visit and come back in 3 months. That was a year ago, and I knew I'd never go back. I visited the emergency room at Adventist Health Bakersfield on June 7, 2025, and what I witnessed left me genuinely alarmed -- not just for my own safety, but for every patient in that facility. Multiple nurses were hooking up IV medications without wearing gloves and failing to disinfect the IV ports with alcohol before attaching new medication bags. This is not only careless -- it's a direct violation of basic hospital infection control standards. No gloves. No alcohol swabs. Just bare hands connecting meds directly into patients' IV lines. I saw this happen to me and others in nearby beds. One nurse in particular looked completely unprepared for a clinical environment: wearing Birkenstocks and appearing like she had just rolled out of bed -- yet there she was, managing IV medications without any protective equipment or sterile technique. It was shocking. This kind of negligence puts every patient at risk for bloodstream infections and serious complications. I'm now considering getting a full panel blood test to rule out exposure to any infectious diseases, which is an expense and a mental burden no patient should have to worry about after receiving hospital care. I am writing to formally express my outrage and frustration with the level of care I received during my visit to your facility for a post-tonsillectomy hemorrhaging emergency. I arrived with severe and dangerous bleeding, having already lost an alarming amount of blood. Despite the severity of my condition, I was made to wait in the waiting room for over an hour, with no one attending to me or even acknowledging my distress. After being called in for an EKG, my bag of blood was completely ignored by the staff. Following the EKG, I was left to sit and wait again, for another 30 minutes, before a nurse finally noticed the situation and pulled me to a different area, acknowledging that I should have been prioritized from the start due to the amount of blood I was losing. This was the first--and only--nurse to show any genuine concern, and she did what she could within the limits of an overwhelmed system. The lack of urgency continued when a doctor eventually ordered a CT scan, which, to my knowledge, was never performed. Meanwhile, a nurse administered medication only after my bleeding had subsided on its own, after I had already spit up over three cups of blood. I was left weak, dizzy, and pale, showing classic signs of shock, yet no one acted swiftly to provide proper care. I also had an incredibly disturbing experience with an RN named Mark, who attempted to place an IV. His technique was not only unprofessional but also caused me significant pain. He blew my vein on the first attempt, then continued to fish for blood in the same vein, moving to a nearby one without hesitation. Despite expressing discomfort and suggesting he get assistance, he insisted on continuing his attempts. After several unsuccessful tries, he finally managed to insert the IV, but only after causing me further distress. The pain from the IV insertion was so intense that I told him it wasn't the typical sensation I'd felt before, yet he dismissed my concerns. Soon after, my arm became swollen and extremely painful, and I had to call out for help as the staff was nowhere to be found. When a nurse finally arrived, she discovered that Mark had infiltrated the vein, and his response was frantic and unprofessional. I was physically weak, nauseous, and on the verge of fainting by this point, yet Mark continued to ignore my clear distress, even when I specifically told him not to touch me again and the nurse told him she would remove it for me. His actions only added to my pain and discomfort, and I felt utterly neglected by him. Thankfully, the other nurse, who had already been on her way out, was the only one to properly address my situation and place a new IV, but even then, I had to wait for an unreasonable amount of time before any medication was finally administered. By this point, my bleeding had already stopped on its own, and I had been waiting in an incredibly vulnerable state for well over an hour. I was repeatedly told by my surgeon that extreme bleeding after a tonsillectomy is a critical condition requiring immediate attention. The way I was treated that day--ignored, neglected, and made to feel like my life was not a priority--was not only unacceptable, it was deeply dangerous. It is a miracle that I didn't suffer further complications or even die waiting for the necessary care. Lastly, I find it appalling that after receiving substandard and negligent treatment, I was billed $2,818. I am being charged for services and medications that were provided only after the danger had already passed--if not for the fact that my hemorrhaging stopped on its own, this story could have had a far more tragic outcome. This level of care is not only disappointing but completely unacceptable. I demand an explanation, a full review of my treatment, and a resolution to this matter. Well once again our family had horrible treatment at Adventist Health Hospital! This time the emergency room! Our father was taken by ambulance to the ER from a skilled nursing facility and I swear they saw his age, all his previous health problems and the fact he came from a SNF and did the basics and sent him back to the SNF. They did a Ct scan and a MRI to rule out a stroke. We were told they were normal, showed no abnormalities. He was extremely short of breath and when asked about that we were told the SNF needed to evaluate him for that! Um if that's the case what does the emergency room do? Isn't it their responsibility to evaluate and assess the patient????? When we spoke to the doctor at the SNF we were told his CT scan actually showed a previous stroke !?!? At the end of May this year, I broke my femur and was taken by ambulance to the emergency room. I had a severe break. I was in a lot of pain. In fact, I was crying which I hardly ever do and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had two nurses that went above and beyond helping me. The nurse was Tiffany, and the assistant was Riley.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Interestingly Tiffany is the fiancé of the ambulance driver that brought me in.! Small world. Anyway, [[HIGHLIGHT]]they were so good and so kind and so helpful to me that I will probably always remember their names after the surgery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The next day I was at this hospital for four days and I must say my care was excellent. The only thing that I have to complain about is the food and their menu needs a serious overhaul and serving and warm food to patients, well, just let me say the food service food menus need to be adjusted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I even had one of the people from the kitchen come in and talk to me but had a little or no improvement.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I realize the kitchen is limited by the supplies that they have so if that's my only complaint, I think the hospital did a five star job for Me! This facility has horrible service twice I've brought my son here and he was delievered here. When born he was throwing up they brushed me off and it ended up being really bad having to be flown out to valley children's. The second time they didn't even have anyone to help with it staff is more concerned with discharging you than actually treating you. I have been here for a week with a loved one fresh out of surgery and the nursing staff keeps complaining to us about lack of communication regarding an action plan or care plan for our loved one THE NURSING STAFF. My father was taken by ambulance for severe abdominal pain, did a CT scan and said he looks like he ate something and has inflammation in his intestines or food poisoning. His BP was elevated by pain (200/91) Can you believe he was trying to send us home?! It was found that he had a strangled bowel. He received surgery yesterday to resection he bowel. He would have died if we let Dr. Reilly push us out the door!! I am horrified that a practicing doctor of 35 years could not rule it out something this serious & life threatening and attributed it to food poisoning. read more

Thankfully, the other nurse who approached me, who had already been on her way out, was the only one to properly address my situation and place a new IV, but even then, I had to wait for an unreasonable amount of time before any medication was finally administered. By this point, my bleeding had already stopped on its own, and I had been waiting in an incredibly vulnerable state for well over an hour. I was repeatedly told by my surgeon that extreme bleeding after a tonsillectomy is a critical condition requiring immediate attention. The way I was treated that day--ignored, neglected, and made to feel like my life was not a priority--was not only unacceptable, it was deeply dangerous. It is a miracle that I didn't suffer further complications or even die waiting for the necessary care. Lastly, I find it appalling that after receiving substandard and negligent treatment, I was billed $2,818. I am being charged for services and medications that were provided only after the danger had already passed--if not for the fact that my hemorrhaging stopped on its own, this story could have had a far more tragic outcome. This level of care is not only disappointing but completely unacceptable. What an awful experience at this hospital!! Had to take my husband into emergency. One particular nurse or tech was rude to me and other patients. Her quality of care was awful! Cleaning lady decides to mop with room full of sick people and girl on crutches slips and injures her hurt leg. Same nurse/tech snapped at her but a nurse saw how rude she was and brought the injured girl a wheelchair. Supposedly, this hospital is linked to Kaiser and ER sent prescription to Ming location, which is closed on weekends. Adventist should know this. After a couple calls, prescription was transferred to Kaiser pharmacy on Stockdale. Thankfully Kaiser pharmacy workers are very pleasant and helpful! read more

worst care Ive ever had in my life. I had miscarried ( what they told me) but there was worry of an ectopic pregnant due to my HCG numbers and told me if I had any of the following symptoms to come back immediately. Had the best care and was told this at the TEHACHAPI ADVENTIST hospital. Almost 2 weeks later I had the worst pain of my life, and passed out. went my ambulance and they told me they didn't have a OB in the tehachapi location, so they transferred me to Bakersfield ADVENTIS I had ALL symptoms of an ectopic, but they sent me home. I begged them not too, and they did nothing for me. Mind you I live in the middle of the desert so it's over an hour way and this can be deadly for me. 24 hours later I couldn't take it, and my OB couldn't see me until the following day. So I went to tehachapi Adventis I was ectopic, sepsis, and when they gave me a catheter.. I released 1300ml.. anymore my bladder would have burst. ( tehachapi actually did the steps to figure this out) I was losing so much blood internally i had to have multiple blood transfusions, and an emergency surgery.. and this had to be all done back in Bakersfield Adventis. ( was transported by ambulance from there) I left 3 days later and they didnt even send my prescription, waited for an hour, and told me I'd have to wait until monday because they now were closed.(pharmacy is 45 minutes from my house) Also pulled so many muscles in my back from straining for so long I can barley walk to do the appropriate steps to feel better.. Now they keep hanging up on me and nothing has been sent . Have been calling for days just to get all my medical records, and nothing. I'm at loss for words for how I've been treated and i will be moving forward with a lawyer, because I would have lost my life if I waited any longer. Worst care EVER!!! read more

Upon a follow-up appointment with Kaiser Orthopedics, the MRI conducted by Adventist Health is completely unusable. Not only did they not have my correct weight, but the images were grainy and the readout was not clear in terms of my injuries. Since a specialist can't understand what this mess of a hospital did, I have to now schedule a new MRI. FYI--Adventist. Send bill collectors after me. I don't care. I AM NOT PAYING FOR AN MRI PERFORMED BY AN INCOMPETENT STAFF AND UNABLE TO BE USED BY A SPECIALIST. THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

This place is dirty and ghetto. Homeless patients acting up. One of them tossed a chair creating caos. Another sat behind me and he smelled so bad. I understand I'm over weight but they didn't need to comment on it or say I probably just didn't want to go to work. I know this and I'm working on it with my medical team.
