Everything here is wonderful. Friendly staff our air conditioner wasn't working too well they came up in about 5 minutes and put in a new one in about 15 minutes. New rest the Reef. Above and beyond. The food is delicious. If u like avocado toast run don't walk to get an order. One of the best I've ever had the crabby Benedict delish. Bacon cooked perfect scrambled eggs excellent. Really not sure why there are so many negative reviews for stays during a pandemic. THERE'S A PANDEMIC OUT THERE PEOPLE! Things won't be exactly like they were before. We took a family trip here (planned last year) and had 5 rooms - 20 total people and the hotel itself was exceptional and very clean. Drive by some of the other hotels in the area, this is definitely one of the nicer properties. It's an excellent location, right at the start of the far end of the boardwalk with beach access as well. The rooms are all large suites and fairly updated with a private balcony. The balcony can fit 2 people comfortably to sit and read, have a drink, etc. We were in room 215 and had great easy access to the sun deck and steps right down to the pool, spots where we spent most of our time. There is a restaurant on site to grab breakfast and lunch which is nice - food was pretty good, pretty basic selection. Reading reviews talking about there being too many people walking by your room, or not allowing drinks at pool (not true we were all doing it just don't bring glass and you're good) are pretty comical. The tv/cable definitely needs to be looked at, static and blurry channels for some reason but it didn't bother me much since I was on vacation and not spending time in my room watching tv. The elevators are also painful, thankfully we were on the 2nd floor so we just took the steps. Try to stay on a low floor. read more

[741] We decided to try a new Wildwood Crest Hotel this year. Stayed here for a week in July. Right off the boardwalk and across from the ocean. We picked the Ocean view/pool side as it has an unobstructed view of the ocean. It's on the side of the building so not a direct view but that's ok. There is a small patio which fits two chairs and a small table. One parking space per family unless you reserve a larger room. We decided on the D room floor plan as it has a separate sleeping room (well it's separated by a accordion door). Our room was on the smaller size as one of the beds were sideways and not directly next to each other. Plenty of dresser space. Bathroom was small so only one person at a time. The kitchen has a full side fridge, electric top and microwave which worked for us. The building has a restaurant which was always packed. It has a laundry room. The pool was large and nice. We really enjoyed the pool. There were a few outdoor spaces which was great as we sat outside and played cards. Plenty of luggage carts to borrow. The two elevators were slow and HOT. We took the stairs many times. Air Conditioner worked in our room, but it struggled. We had it at 61 degrees and it felt like 75 which was comfortable. We have stayed at the Adventurer multiple time in the past 18 years. It's inexpensive and a hop skip and jump to the beach. However, we noticed that it is not the cleanest place to stay. Our most recent stays we were upset with how unkept the room was. There is a very musty smell throughout the rooms. The bathroom was a disgrace. The toilet needed a very deep cleaning. The ring inside the toilet was unacceptable. The baseboards had a thick coating of dust. And there was black mold on the shower wall. We did our best to clean the room with the supples we brought with us. We actually left the room in better condition than we found it. The front desk staff is top notch. If I could give them a side rating it would be 4.5 stars. Super friendly! Hope they retrain the housekeeping on the benefit of a clean room. read more

Really 3.5. Amazing location. We had an oceanfront suite room with fabulous ocean views, from sunrise through moon rise. You cannot beat the off-season price for this room. Could sleep 6 if necessary. Check in was smooth with a delicious bowl of salt water taffy right there to welcome you down the shore. Hallways very well done with ceramic tile and Wildwood themed photos. Right next to entranceway to boardwalk. Decent little pool and sunny exposure into late afternoon. Sundeck above too. Some parts of room updated. Older coach and chair need to be replaced when they can. Bedspreads old. Kitchenette fine and we like having one. These are the fatigued aspects, but not terrible. We did not eat in restaurant but looked clean and nice. But nothing like that oceanfront balcony. We would return off season for the value and the location. Stay: midweek, early May. I consider myself exceptionally lucky to have seen their FB $50/night special. I stayed three nights. I had an incredible first night's sleep and awoke and went to breakfast in their wonderful restaurant. My server was Christine from Romania and not only was she very nice but she's a very good server. Everyone at the front desk has been wonderful. Shout out to Mary D. Who went above and beyond acquainting me with what this part of Wildwood Crest has to offer. Two friends of mine stayed there the second week of June and had an equally pleasant stay. I usually stay further up in the Crest at a friend's motel but as they are not open preseason this will be my new place to go in April and May, Especially if they run another Facebook special. read more

This was our first time in Wildwood and I did a lot of research to find a good hotel. This hotel was clean, comfortable and convenient. It has access to the boardwalk and beach right outside the hotel, but does not have all the hustle and bustle of a hotel that overlooks the boardwalk, so you can relax on the private balcony in the evenings without all the noise. The room looked recently remodeled, clean (even the bathroom) and the beds were comfortable, even the pull out sofa bed. Everything in the kitchenette worked great and they have all the basic necessities for cooking meals in the room, which we did everyday. The ceiling fan in the sleeping area was not working so we could not shut the partition in between the rooms without it getting to hot to sleep. The fan in the bathroom did not work well so we had to leave the door open when we took showers to let the heat out. And the wifi was not great, our phones would only connect once in a while and I could not get my laptop to connect at all (good thing it was not a working vacation). The staff do their job but do not get in your way like some hotels. If you need something they are available but are not asking if you need something just because they see you in the hall. They have it arranged so if you do need housekeeping you can put a tag on your doorknob and they will clean but are not disturbing you every morning by knocking on your door trying to clean unless the tag is there. We stayed on the second floor which was great as the pool and sun deck access was right at the end of the hall and the elevators take forever. We used the stairs when we didn't have the wagon with the beach stuff. We would wait for the elevator for more than 10 minutes when we needed to use it. They have an underground garage which is nice for parking your car out of the hot sun. But it is also the exhaust area for all their dryers, so when housekeeping is doing laundry it is VERY hot in the garage. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the slow elevators, poor wifi and non working fans. read more

The hotel is well maintained and has great views of the beach. The room was clean and slightly dated but it's more about the shore and being out than staying inside :) I think all rooms have a balcony which allows you to enjoy the area even more when you are in the room. Heated pool with plenty of lounge chairs with another sun deck up some stairs. There is also a nice covered area to sit and relax if you want to get away from the sun. The hotel is at the very beginning of the boardwalk. You get the best of both worlds at this location, close to the fun but far enough away to just soak in the beach life. read more

CONS...although it's ocean front, the ocean is a mile away which makes walking to the water's edge a hard decision everyday. They advertise "private balcony"....Yes it is, but it has condensation dripping from the upper floors and the exhaust to the room's air conditioner blowing out on that balcony....sitting there is not good, called to report the drip, but although we were told they would come check --- no one ever did.....their restaurant is overpriced....and let me tell you about the slowest elevator I've ever seen.... This is my family's second time at the adventurer. We did have a great time but there were pros and cons regarding this hotel. I will start this review with the pros. 1. Location! You are steps away from the boardwalk and the beach. If traveling to wild wood with kids, it is very convenient to be able to walk the kids right onto the boardwalk without having to load up the car. 2. Room Space! They have rooms available for as many as two people all the way up to suites for bigger parties. 3. Restaurant! The hotel does have a sit down or take out restaurant. During Covid the indoor was closed but the outdoor patio was open for guests. Cons- 1. During a pandemic many guests were walking around the hotel without masks on even though there are signs that ask for masks to be worn. 2. Housekeeping! Room was dirty and dusty despite a strict Covid cleaning policy posted on the hotels site. There was hair on the bathroom floor, dust all over the lamps and bedroom night stands. We found strands of hair in our beds. It looked like our room had not been cleaned. The house keepers that we saw cleaning the rooms were in the guests rooms without masks on. This blew my mind because it defeats the purpose of the "strict Covid cleaning policy" if you are going to go in and out of the rooms without masks on. 3. Ice machine! The ice machine on our floor, had black mold all over the ice. 4. Social distancing! The hotel was at 100% capacity despite still being open during a pandemic. The hotel was packed with people. The pool was packed with people. The chairs are not spread 6 ft apart. Very hard to social distance and keep safe. 5. The hotel needs updating. The bathroom shower head was very rusty. The outdoor patio chairs were very rusty. I never saw any staff outside or inside cleaning anything. 6. Parking! The hotel only allows you one parking spot per room which sucks, if you are in a suite with 6 people only one car per room. You will need to find street parking with is hard to find. Covid! The hotel takes your temperature when you enter the hotel front desk at check in. The cleanliness of the hotel was not as clean as we would have liked. Strict policy for social distancing are not enforced. The pool was very packed. Chairs are positioned right next to each other. Hotel does have signs for elevator limits. But, that is about as far as the Covid policies and rules go. It was a nice vacation but very disappointed this year with the hotel cleanliness and Covid polices, especially during a pandemic. read more

This was a great location in the area. Parking in the lot or basement garage was easy. Rooms were spacious- with a bedroom and a kitchen/living room. Balcony had a view of the beach. Clean bathroom with no issues. Front desk staff were friendly. Price was right. Some notes: They had the two slowest elevators I've ever been on. You wait there for over 5 minutes sometimes for it to arrive- often times to find the small elevator already full. Once you make it on an elevator- it would sometimes take close to a minute to even move from one floor to the next. Save yourself some time and take the stairs! The room was described as having one King sized bed and one Queen sized bed. There was one King and one Full bed. This didn't really matter to us, but it was an observation. I found it strange that they charged $20 in October for the 11AM check out to be changed to a late check out (1PM). I've never encountered a place charging for late checkout, especially since it was only two hours later. We didn't have a chance to enjoy any of the hotel amenities- but I see they have a restaurant, pool and gym. read more

I have to say. I've stayed in a number of places in Wildwood and Wildwood Crest and The Adventurer is my entire family's favorite. The only reasons I can't give it five stars are the elevators (very slow and not enough of them for the hotel's size), only some rooms have smart TVs (not a necessity I realize, but since some have them, it would be great if they all did), and the dryer I used did not dry my clothes despite putting in extra money for extra time. Otherwise this hotel is perfect. Plenty of room for my family of 5. Updated and spacious. Very friendly front desk. Lovely pool area. Good food in the restaurant and the closest you can get to the boardwalk without being on it. read more

I stayed here with my teen child the week of June 15 for 2 nights. I booked my stay months ago. When we arrived and were waiting for our room to be ready, I noticed our room was in what appeared to be the busiest spot in the entire hotel. I went to the desk to inquire about another quieter location. She offered me a larger room room for an extra $50 a night. I declined because we did not need a larger room, and the $100 could be spent on something else. The thing is, I had no idea I was booking a room located directly next to the room where families meet to eat take-out, the elevator right across the hall from my door, the pancake house right next to our room and the back entrance to the hotel from the beach was one door down from ours. So I accepted the circumstances and took the room. However, the noise in the hallway started at 8:15am. Loud families walking by, going to the pancake house, leaving the building and waiting for the elevator. So the next morning I called to complain, and mentioned how I recommend giving someone a heads up that room 125 is in the busiest spot in the hotel. She apologized and understood, but I was never offered any alternative. Nothing. Hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly, but I definitely felt like my concerns went ignored. If you're looking for a more peaceful nights sleep, be sure not to book room 125. read more

My family has come to the Adventurer for years and enjoyed it very much. However, this year we experienced a problem with mold in our room. As soon as we opened the door to our room (617), we were hit with an overwhelming smell of mildew. This was very unexpected because we had never had an issue before. I walked into the bathroom and immediately saw the source of the problem--black mold was growing on the ceiling and walls (see picture). I instantly went back down to the front desk to report the issue. The woman there told me that she would send someone to check it out, and she did. The cleaning staff offered to clean the bathroom, which they did. While my family appreciated the gesture, we felt that mold should not have been growing in the first place. The room still smelled awful, and I had some health concerns. I went back down to voice these and to request a different room. I was told that I would not be given a different room and "if you are not happy, you're welcome to leave." There was no offer of refunding the $598 deposit that I was required to pay on January 12 (We stayed in August.) or the balance that I had just given prior to getting my room key. I was stunned. My husband and I spent the next hour or so contacting other area hotels. None that were large enough to accommodate us and our children had vacancy. After driving four hours to get to Wildwood with two, small and excited children, we could not imagine driving home. Because we also had nothing but positive experiences at the Adventurer in the past, we also felt that they would find a way to get us a new room and rectify the situation. So, we opted to stay. Boy, were we wrong. To deal with the mold, the staff placed an animal odor control disc on top of our refrigerator (see picture). We indicated that the room was still not acceptable. They stuck an air freshener to the vent (see picture). After we pointed out that you can't just cosmetically cover mold, they wheeled in a dehumidifier--with a dirty filter. After a day or two, the filter was replaced, however. We had to keep the windows and balcony doors open during our entire stay just to make the smell tolerable. Also, we spent as little time in the room as possible. This defeated the purpose of having an oceanfront room with a kitchenette (frequent snacks and naps for the kids). As the days of our vacation went by, we watched people load up their cars and check out. We were never given the opportunity to switch rooms. I also told management that I didn't feel that we should pay the full price for a room that was substandard. We were told that no discount would be given. When an employee came to empty our dehumidifier, I told him the room was still raunchy. His response was to tell me how much worse it was a few days ago. During our stay, we also found some other issues with the room. For example, I went to plug in my cell phone charger and found the electrical box protruding from the wall (see picture). Trim was also missing from around the tile (see picture). We did not report these to management because we felt we were just wasting our time. As we eagerly prepared to leave on our last day, we were speaking to/overhearing other people in the hall. A girl from a different room reported a bad smell to staff (hmm, clearly the problem was not just with our room). An employee who I had not seen before asked another employee what smelled in the hall. She responded, "well, it's humid". Next, cleaning staff was badmouthing guests, complaining that their "home must be dirty." Once we got on the elevator, we were speaking with an older gentleman who said that he had been staying at the Adventurer since his kids were a little older than ours. Now, he goes there with his grandchildren. However, he said that he plans on staying elsewhere in the future. He was not happy either. I'm still shocked at the condition of our room and the Adventurer's lack of concern. Based on positive stays there in the past, I would have considered staying again if they had just shown quality customer service. However, they didn't do that. In the future, I will spend my money elsewhere. Update, August 25, 2016 After my unsatisfactory stay at the Adventurer earlier this month, I contacted the Better Business Bureau. Today, the Adventurer contacted me to offer an apology and refund. That is the quality of service that I have always received from this business in the past. It is also why I changed my review from one star to three. I'm disappointed that I had to contact an outside group to get results; however, I'm thrilled that the Adventurer stepped up in the end. read more

Arrived to find multiple milky white "substances" on our curtain. Also found someone else's hair scrunchies next to the side table and by the bed. NASTY. Not really our expectation of what to find in a hotel room these days with COVID and heightened deep cleaning. Management said they would replace the curtain with a clean one so long as we left the room so the housekeeper would not be in the room with us because of COVID. We left and returned to find the stains there like it had just been wiped slightly with a tissue and left. Wanted to bathe myself in lysol when we finally escaped. Chris the owner may need a Xanax or some meditation since he seemed annoyed with everyone and everything while we were checking out. He Had multiple "disagreements" with people while we were checking out. There are other job opportunities in NJ so, Chris, hope you find your calling because hotel ownership ain't for you. We stayed 3 ngts at Adventurer Oceanfront Inn. We had a family room that had a king and a double along w a pullout couch if we needed it. It fit 3adults and two kids just fine! The room was very clean. I will say however the bedspreads make it look very dated. They need to be removed and just duvets or bed bottoms put on. The kitchen and bathroom was dated, but it was CLEAN. Also the carpet looked newer, like it had just been replaced. The tv is in a weird spot on the same side of the wall, so if u are sitting on the couch, you wld have to look on the wall behind you. Weird. Don't know why it is places like this. The pool and sundeck area were nice also. We ate breakfast one morning and it was good in the attached restaurant. This hotel is the first one at the south end of the boardwalk. It is convenient to the tram station to buy ur ticket and hop on for the pier. However it is a LONG WALK to the ocean. Be prepared for that. Parking is tight as everyone on here stated, all in all i wld stay here again. All the staff was friendly to us! read more

We didn't know what to expect but we booked our stay for the beginning of September thinking we would get a tiny room and together typical hot wet ocean humid carpet smell and mediocre service. The staff was wonderful and helpful. Their room service attendants were friendly, kind and eager to please. We expected the price due to the off season commencing but it was wonderful... only downfall was the hike to the beach. There is a considerable walk to the water... close to restaurants, entertainment and a great boardwalk... we had an amazing time and needed the extra exercise anyway!!! read more

The Adventurer is a low budget hotel that has seen better days. I prepaid for this hotel in Wildwood, NJ when I decided not to secure a room in Cape May, NJ due to (1) minimum stay requirements, and (2) didn't want to pay the high cost for a one night stay in Cape May. Please note that I had never been to either Cape May or Wildwood, NJ. I looked at a map and said okay Wildwood is 9 minutes from Cape May so why pay so much extra for 1 night. I'll just stay in Wildwood and save money. Check-in was smooth and the front desk was pleasant. I had prepaid for an oceanfront with two queen beds. I knew this property was a throwback, but was still in shock went I walked down the corridor and entered the room. In the room I could hear music blaring through the window from the mini mart across the street and there were no screens on the windows. The room had a great view and the bathroom was clean but had marks in the tub from wear and tear. The weather was pouring down rain and that allowed me to ultra focus on everything in the room. The entire area looked like a ghost town and there were some locals smoking black and milds across the street in front of the mini mart. The carpets in the corridor looked old and dirty. This is probably a good property if you have a large family or kids, just want to be oceanfront at the beach and will spend very little time in the room. Many guests were standing out front smoking and you needed to walk through the smoke to get in and out the main entrance. I never unpacked, instead I got back in my car and drove to Cape May. Driving from Wildwood into Cape May was enlightening. The entire scenery changed from where did all the people go to wow this looks nice. In Cape May I started stopping at hotels that looked more up to date. I found one and ended up paying almost $300 for one night (review to follow separately). In the end you get what you pay for and this was clearly user error on my part. read more

Pros: The staff was very friendly, the cleaning personnel were very respectful and, overall, it was a clean facility. They don't have any complimentary breakfast but they do have a restaurant that seemed reasonably priced. Plus, there's a deli right across the street from the hotel (sorry, can't remember the name) that had good, reasonably priced food. The hotel is located directly across the road from the boardwalk so we saved on having to find parking elsewhere to get to the boardwalk. The pool seemed to be clean and well maintained. CONS: We rented the family suite and there were 5 adults and 5 young children occupying the suite. That's 3 families with 3 separate cars. We were told we could only have 2 parking passes to park on the property - not sure why when there are 3 families paying good money for this suite but 'ok'. We managed. When I made the reservations, the gentleman I spoke with said 'oh, you can park just 2 blocks up in front of someone's house'. No, no you can't. Wildwood Crest is a hopping place and there are NO parking spaces close by. I was also told, at check-in, that there were parking lots "just 2 blocks up". I drove around looking for this place "2 blocks away" but couldn't find it. How about giving directions/address of this mystery parking lot for your customers? They also had a limited number of parking meter passes for $15 a day that could only be used in the Crest area. Good luck getting your "close-by" spot back after you've pulled away. Understandably, the parking spaces are very narrow. If you have a big van, you're screwed unless you find a parking space that doesn't have perpendicular parking spaces in front of it. Also, this place has the slooooowest elevator we've ever experienced and took the steps when we could instead of waiting. We will go back and I do recommend it BUT be sure to know the parking is lousy. read more

We have been coming to WW for 20 years now and this is by far the best hotel we have stayed at. Every year we try a different hotel and are always disappointed in some way. The Adventurer is clean, the rooms are nicely kept and large! The staff are superb and very friendly. The pool is nice with a great deal of seating!! We will definitely be coming back again! Just wish we could bring my small pup with us! read more

Clean and friendly! Can't beat the location! Rooms are basic but well laid out for groups and were very clean.

Don't stay here they wait till you leave and charge you for stuff you didn't even do . They stole $200 from my wife's card..saying someone complained about smelling smoke on the balcony. Me & my wife doesn't even smoke... go somewhere else because you will regret it. read more
