There were several issues with our cabin (stayed in one of the "Cabins on the Gorge"- Lost Paddle) that should have been taken care of before anyone stays in it. The hot tub does not get hot and there is no lock on the cover (handle is also broken) for safety. The "hot" water hose to use is not hot. Lukewarm at best. The cover also has mold on it and needs replaced. This is a huge safety hazard with the cover not having a lock. The freezer is leaking into the refrigerator, there was water all over the top shelf of the fridge and dripping down. The master bathroom shower has black mold all over it and needs completely scrubbed and sanitized. The shower also does not drain properly and water pools around your feet. The grill outside has 2 huge holes in it and could not be used. The picnic table was covered in green moss. Both the table and the steps need pressure washed. This is a beautiful place but the maintenance and cleaning is very poor. Assuming it's the cleaning crew they are using is not doing a job, but as a corporation, they should be overseeing the work being done. I have traveled around the country/world and know what to expect. I understand this is post-covid and things are getting back to normal, but there is no excuse for these simple things to be taken care of before a guest stays. Other than the cabin, we did have a good time and the pool area is very nice. All activities have to be scheduled/paid for in advance, so decide what you are going to do at least a day before you do it. The weather was beautiful and only had a couple days of rain at the beginning of our vacation. All in all, 3 out of 5, but will be trying another resort next time. read more

This was a trip I won't forget. Me and 9 others went down the upper gauley and I was a nervous wreck alway up untill we hit the first rapid. Bill Lehter was our guide and he was fantastic. We went 13 miles without dropping and we owe it up to him giving us the right direction before each rapid. He was funny and at the same time new when to be serious. Thanks for the great memories! Another bitchin' ride down the Upper, Mid and Lower Gualey River - Rivermen does it right for the fifth consecutive year for our group! Guides are TOP NOTCH (ask for Teddy), equipment up to par (they've finally updated a lot of the wetsuits), food will keep you satisfied (hot lunch!). The support staff at check-in seem a bit challenged, but after you get through that administrative stuff, the rest of your trip will be a full-on blast. Tip: bring ear plugs - this place is a sausage fest of beefy guys who insist on partying late at night and being completely obnoxious. Testosterone overload. read more

We made the relatively short drive from Cincinnati on a Friday afternoon to spend the weekend at Adventures on the Gorge. I would totally recommend the experience. It was great for all ages, with a little research and a call to the AOG planning team they can help plan an experience that fits the attendees. Accomodations: Wanting to save money on housing so we could do two adventure activities, my sister and I (27/29 year old ladies) opted for a cabin. Amenities of the cabin: one basic room with a full bed, twin bunk bed, window air conditioning unit, hotel style card reader door lock, covered front porch, picnic table, and fire pit. For bathrooms we had to walk maybe 100 yards to the bath house that had probably four showers and four bathroom stalls. Reminiscent of a dorm bathroom, there was an inner area to leave clothes, towel, and toiletries that wouldn't get wet. Fantastically clean and well maintained, honestly this was a concern as I've never done something like this but I was very impressed. The bathrooms were shared by those in cabins and those tent camping. Adventures: We opted for white water rafting all day Saturday on the New River as beginners and Zip lining on Sunday morning. The white water rafting was very well planned/executed, guides were knowledgeable and prioritized safety while maintaining a fun atmosphere. We had great weather and didn't need to rent wet suits as it was mid June. Things I wish I knew before white water rafting: people bring their own water bottles, pack old sunglasses because mine were lost in the river when we went overboard, if you stay on the property your key card reader fits on a bracelet that you wear (decreases the risk of losing keys is in the river), bright colored shirts help you tell apart the people in your boat, "dry fit" water wicking athletic gear function exceptionally well, and lunch was quite the spread including water or lemonade. Overall Property: AOG felt like a resort experience in the middle of the West Virginian mountains. I was very impressed with the maintenance and functionality of the property. The views of the valley and the bridge from the look-out point is exceptional. Watching the sunset from the Adirondack chairs was great. They cleverly appealed to various demographics by offering different styles of housing (camping, cabins, cabins with kitchens/bathrooms) and different types of activities ranging from mild to extreme sports. read more

This is a really extreme and exiting adventure. A little scary but is part of the emotion of doing the rafting. The guides are very profesional and they know very well the river's currents so you feel safe all the time . We took all the day rafting 6 hours, we had lunch in the shore of the river, it was a beautiful and fun experience. read more

Rafting on the New River was an extremely thrilling ride while being surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in North America. It was so exhilarating, the scenery and the rapids themselves really kept me on my toes! I recommend the trip to all adrenaline junkies out there looking for a day full of fun and excitement. We had an awesome family vacation! I'm glad we did the package, I feel like we got a great value. It was also nice not having to worries about meals and schedule, the people who work for this company was so helpful and awesome! We loved our guide, he had a great personality and was hilarious! Really fun all-inclusive destination, our family spent 3 days and 2 nights here. Campsites and shower houses were clean and the food they served in the mess hall was hearty and delicious! The buffet meals are very good and there are multiple choices for picky eaters like me. We had an awesome family vacation! read more

After renting a deluxe cabin for a wedding, "Heaven Help Us", for 2 nights (this was the minimum rental), I developed an extensive rash on my right torso/flank. After seeing my PCP I was given a written diagnosis that was consistent with BEDBUGS and this was relayed to Adventures on the Gorge management. Allegedly the cabin was fumigated, THEN an inspector was sent in specifically for bedbugs, for which the minimal report stated there were none. The welts on my right body are still present, and I was offered no compensation/refund, or even an apology. The wedding reception served chicken salad sandwiches on croissants, and the croissants were moldy for at least 3 guests at my table. This was relayed to the Food service manager, for which a response was never even attempted/received. There was also a consistent raw sewage smell close to the restaurant/outdoor dining area. For the prices this facility charges, I would not recommend. I question sanitation and Customer service is obviously low on list of priorities as well. read more

This place is truly a gem. First of all the white water rafting. The river itself is beautiful and taking your family or group on a rafting trip will be an experience you will both enjoy and never forget. Lots of options based upon the level of intensity that you are looking for. The trips are well organized and the guides are knowledgable, professional and really help make a great experience even better. There are several lodging options and based upon your budget and the size of your group. We selected a more basic cabin and it was clean and offered the basic necessities. There are several dining options also on site. Good selection and decent food quality. Also the camp stores have a nice selection of merchandise and prices are actually very reasonable. We took advantage of several activities beyond the rafting. We tried rock climbing, zip lining, hiking and stand up paddle boarding. All were very well organized with great guides who really helped to ensure a great experience. I have never been to a place that has such a wide offering of activities with varying degrees of intensity. If you have folks in your group who just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and also some who are very active and want high adventure there are plenty of options to satisfy them both with no one having to compromise on their vacation. Really a great mix of activities. Only comment that I would offer to help them improve would be in the hospitality area. This has nothing to do with the guides but more the staff working the restaurants and lodging areas. The hospitality is not bad but if it could be moved up just a notch or two then this place would really knock it completely out of the park. Really for the eastern United States this should be a draw for tourism that rivals Colorado. Load up your group or family and head on down (or up). You will not be disappointed! read more

We did a full day rafting trip on the New. What a wonderful experience. The guide was informative and made sure everyone knew what they were doing and safe. Hands down one of the best adventure tours that I have had on a trip. They provided us with a jam-packed, half-day, river rafting experience that me and my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, they were super understanding and chill about our late arrival due to construction on the roads. Super cool and informative guide (shout out Everett) led us down the river ending with great views of the New River Gorge Bridge. This was a super fun and safe experience that I would highly recommend to anybody looking for white water rafting. Lastly, the drinks were a really nice touch at the end. TY read more

There were 8 of us which allowed us all to be on the same raft. We did the New River Gorge whitewater tour which included a stop for lunch. Since many of us had never done whitewater rafting, this was a nice trip with a fair amount of rapids, but no waterfalls and heavy turbulence. They are very strict on safety and ensure you wear proper protective gear before attempting to get on the water. Our guides were very good. They put you on a bus to the entry point. Our main guide was a great stand-up comic with a fantastic memory for names and stories. He made the bus ride very enjoyable. Our raft guide did a great job getting us to the best of the rapids. Great instruction. No mishaps amongst us other than our guide flying overboard on the final rapids. We were able to pull her out and even found her lost hat. Lunch consisted of fruit, veggies,dips, lunchmeat, bread, peanut butter & jelly as well as red velvet cake. The bus trip back was also entertaining. Beer and sodas are free on the trip back to camp. They will then try to sell you the videos or photos. We took the photos instead. Pics were awesome. read more

Came here for takeout at the restaurant and the sunset view. This is the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset with a nice cold drink. They have Adirondack chairs placed perfectly for the view. During Covid, all employees were masked. Only half the patrons walking in were masked. It was pretty crowded if you are taking the proper precautions. We ordered the rueben sandwich and the rendezvous burger. Burger was excellent, the fries were slightly soggy. The rueben was just okay and I would probably not get it again. It was on regular sandwich bread and the meat had gristle in it. We ordered takeout to eat while watching the sunset and left immediately. read more

The Lookout Post Conference Center is a wonderful part of AOTG. The views are indescribable (hence the name as you overlook the New River and the New River Gorge Bridge) but even more so, the event staff is an absolute joy to work with. They are attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating. The conference room is not only beautiful, but modern and functional. And let's talk about the food... this isn't your typical conference food. The breakfast buffet has a huge variety, including the best bacon you'll ever eat. Each meal was customized to what our group wanted and tasted wonderful each time. I am so pleased with our experience here and the conference attendees were, as well. We will definitely come back for this meeting next year! read more

GRAVITY ZIP LINE IS A MUST DO!! Every fun outdoor adventure begins on a rickety bus ride to the launch site, & this trip had that too! Guides OC & Ryan were laid back but knowledgeable. 6 zips & bus shuttles- trip was just under 3 hours, $109 per person & was Incomparable :) Before departure we drove through the camp/cabin sites on our own- it's a great layout & facilities- we plan to return for a rafting/zip/camping retreat this summer, and definitely will stay with Adventures on the Gorge. read more

This place is by far a great outdoor spot to bring family,friends and even a retreat for work. The views are amazing the staff is great and friendly. The camp grounds are awesome we stayed in the country cabins. It had AC and served its purpose for us. But I recommend you upgrade to the deluxe if you have a wife that is not the outdoor type. A shout out to our guide Ark who did a great job on the river and the bus ride. Hands down this place gets five stars. It is worth the money we had included the Smokey steak house with our trip I must say the food was delicious. Also zip lining was fun and a new experience for myself as the group. The guides where also great we had Candice and two others that I will list there names once I find them. If you do zip lining I recommend tree top the folks on the phone are probably reading a script and don't really tell you to much detail about the lines. I can't say enough about what a great place this is!! We had two families that stayed in one of the awesome 4 bedroom homes on premises, which was impeccable.. Every single staff member was so friendly, from the girls that checked us in, to the folks that came and got the trash. The rafting.. What an amazing experience! Rae Rae was our trip leader, and was obviously knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and made us, and our young teens feel confident about the trip. Our river guide was Dave, and I can't imagine anyone giving us a better trip. We let him know that our kids were really adventurous and not afraid to challenge themselves, and he gave us one awesome trip! There is no doubt that we will be coming back foley because of our guide. The campus was beautiful! The scenery was incredible, the grounds were spotless, and the amenities provided fun after a long day of rafting and hiking. We ate at the barbecue restaurant which was delicious, and had drinks at the other restaurant/bars. I cannot wait for our next adventure at Adventures on the Gorge! read more

Came to WV on vacation with my mom and had some great experiences with Adventures on the Gorge. We stayed on the campus for a few days in one of the cabins - it was clean, comfortable, and convenient...and the private hot tub was certainly welcome after long days of hiking and activities for those of us who prefer a less rustic "camping" experience. We did zip lining on the Tree Tops canopy tour. Our guides were Lauren and Mary. They were both incredibly friendly, helpful, and reassuring - they did a great job of catering to everyone in the group, whether they were more adventurous/experienced with zip lining or a little more on the nervous side. They also both were very knowledgeable about the local wildlife and taught us a lot about the trees we were zipping through. Another day, we rafted on the lower New River. It was an absolute blast. Our guide, Sam, did a fantastic job of getting to know the comfort level of everyone in our raft (my mom was a little nervous after a more "adventurous" rafting trip we had out west recently) and catering our trip and path through the rapids to what people were comfortable with. For those of us who were wanting a bit more adventure, he pointed out some fun spots where we could hop out of the boat and swim/float through the rapids. He also gave us some great ideas about hikes and other activities in the area. We had a wonderful time overall. We went rafting with this outfit on Memorial day. Our guide Derek (sorry if I spelled wrong) struck a good balance of layed back and fun and knowledgeable and in control. I feel like he did an excellent job of involving us in the control of the raft but took control when needed. We seemed to be set up perfectly for each rapid and he briefed us on the each rapid and the route we were going to take as well as the emergency procedures. He did this without sounding like a bossy control freak. His knowledge of the history of the area was spot on. As someone that grew up in West Virginia and was required to take West Virginia history in middle school I can vouch that his information was accurate and delivered in an entertaining way.The equipment appeared to be in pretty good shape and about what you would expect for rental gear that gets used alot. We arrived at the end spot soaked, alive, and ready for a beer. Pretty much all you can ask for at the end of a rafting trip. read more

Spent the afternoon on the Gravity Zip Line tour. We had a blast. My wife and I, with her 79 year old mother, were overjoyed with the experience. Our guides were fantastic, knowledgeable and personable. The tour has minimal walking, most of the time was flying across the treetops. 2 Day overnight review: the overnight experience was an awesome experience! Our guide Jillian knew everything about the river and wildlife! Definitely eased my nerves a lot of times. I would consider doing the three day trip! We had a group of six women and had the time of our lives. No prior experience! Really... any experience level could do this trip. Those reading the review:::: I came in very unprepared. Couldn't find many reviews on the overnight rafting trip. So here are some tips. 1. Be prepared to haul your own boat 2. Be prepared to set up your own tent at the sight 3. The water proof bags you put your stuff in that gets hauled to camp site via boat (sleeping bag and clothes) is very small. PACK LIGHT! I only brought a backpack of clothes and it was still too big. 4. Expect things to take longer than they do- no one is ever in any rush, we ended over two hours later than expected 5. You get pads to sleep on at campsite 6. Apply sunscreen prior to boating, you can't get to your bag or anything once you start rafting 7. Food is awesome!! They make great meals. read more

Really enjoy this place for the camping and white water rafting duo. For some reason it's been raining both times we were here. The weather is very unpredictable. The lodging for this location varies from primitive camping to rental cabins. So you can stay under a tent in a shared bathhouse or stay in an air-conditioned cabin with a flat screen TV, kitchen, bed, and bathroom. There are also many different types of lodging depending on your needs and levels of camping. There are also two stores that sell minimal camping necessities. So make sure you have the basic needs before you come. The stores have ice, firewood, bug spray, firestarters, snacks, and a gift shop. The highlight is the white water rafting. Our guide Kelly was very informative and fun. It was a good ride down the river. This time we were in a bigger raft and it wasn't as exciting as being in a smaller raft where you can get bumped and jumped a lot more. We had a good time. There's also zip lining, tree-top adventures, hiking, a pool, massages,and other things to do while you are here. In terms of things to do off of the site, the area is a very small town and I emphasize small town. So make sure you have plans to do things each day you are here unless you want to just relax at your campsite. Depending on the season the white water rafting can take place on the New River, Lower Gauley, Upper Gauley, or the Dries. If are going for the first time do the New River first, the next step would be the Lower, Upper, and then Dries. On the Dries skill level depends on the water level, so make sure you ask first. The Dries is not seasonal and only available during certain times. The reason I didn't give it five stars and wasn't satisfied was they do not police the quiet hours so if you are a light sleeper partying guests will keep you up. People were lighting up fireworks and paying music until 2am. We did stay during the Fourth of July but still every other campground respected the quiet hours. The lodging itself is very close together and does not give you the private feel of being in woods away from it all and from people feel. I've been to other camping grounds that are more isolated. We stayed in a platform tent and luckily we brought our own blow up bed. The beds are bunked, moldy smelling, and I wouldn't put my clean sheets on it, maybe my dirty laundry bag or my shoes but definitely not clean sheets. It's about the equivalent of sleeping on the ground in terms of cleanliness. The matress is plastic covered and very wonky I didn't even try to mess with it. I'm sure they are not wiped or washed very often. The zipper on the tent was busted and we couldn't close the screened portion of it and the main zipper was missing the pull. The fire pit is not level so be prepared to do some adjustments. We were also very disappointed because for our rafting trip we specifically asked for a certain guide named Fidge and we were told we'd get him and they booked it for us. What wasn't told was that he no longer works there and were under the assumption that the reason why they picked the New River for us was because he was going to be our guide for that particular trip. If we would have known that he wasn't working there we would have spent our time on a new experience and done the Upper Gauley. That was a huge disappointment. The first time we were here in 2016 we had the best experience with our guide and even stayed in a primitive tent. The guide makes a huge difference, depending on their skill level they can make the rafting experience super fun filled with an adrenaline packed ride down the river. Even though we already booked our next trip for the Upper Gauley here we will definitely give the rafting trip across the way a try to find our guide Fidge! read more

What an amazing full day Upper Gauley trip! Even with it being my first time rafting. The actual place you pull in to is beautiful! There is a huge lodge with an outdoor bar and plenty of seating, clean bathrooms, and anything you would need in a shop. When we arrived at Adventures on the Gorge at 6:00AM for our 6:30AM departure it seemed a bit unorganized I will admit. You really just hang out waiting until you leave on the bus to the top of the dam. This makes sense to check in, ensure all waivers are signed a get a wetsuit. I will say we did not get wetsuits and were three of the few people in our 8 rafts of people without them (excluding the guides). With it being the end of September and water temp around 60 degrees, I was happy we did not rent them. We were very well guided down each rapid, and given clear instructions regardless of how difficult it was to ensure we were safe. No one fell out until we were trying to make it happen by throwing off our boats weight, which was fun (and not on any Class V rapids). I was definitely assuming I would be in the water at least once and still can't believe I stayed out the whole time. All five Class V rapids are before lunch and pretty close together, which I was surprised by, but it really gets you excited. At Sweets Falls I was shocked how many people were already in the viewing area to watch boats flip, go on the 6:30AM tour if you don't want a big crowd for sure. Lunch was AMAZING, hot food, nice area to sit, clean "portalets" and very organized. After lunch I assumed it would be easy, smooth sailing, but there were still plenty of challenges, don't sleep on Fuzzy Box of Kittens! We also stopped to jump off a cliff into the water after lunch, which was very fun and I would recommend trying. We did not buy the pictures or video, they are only around the Class V rapids which I understand, but unless your group fills the whole boat, I don't see being worthwhile. I believe the photos were $20 each and the video was $60 and really only showed each boat for about 2 minutes in total. Not surprising, but not overwhelming to the point we bought it. Our guide Chris B was so great, funny stories, jokes, general entertainment between the rapids that alone were plenty of entertainment made the trip even better. Went on a trip on the Lower New River, it was about 4-6hrs long and had plenty of big waves. I've been on this river twice now and while each time was totally different, both times left me wanting another trip as soon as possible. We had a few people ejected out of the boat and our guide and the others were right there, given that the Lower New River is classified as a Class V and there are dangers that come along with such conditions I never felt "unsafe". If you get a chance to head out there this season, my guide was Chris Bipley, request him and have fun. read more

We had a great time over the weekend at Adventures on The Gorge. We planned a family trip on the lower New River and brought our 9 and 11-year-old. We were very fortunate and got a fantastic guide, Doug Ludwig. His over twenty years' experience made the trip fun and entertaining for us adults and the kids, they had a blast. He is a wealth of knowledge about the river and surrounding area and is a great ambassador for the resort. He knew how to navigate the river so that we hit the rapids but stayed safe and was able to keep the kids entertained darning the slow spots by allowing them to jump in the river. I was very impressed with the resort, it has a swimming pool, bars, restaurants, game rooms and much more. The accommodations include houses, cabins, bungalows and tent locations. You can sign up for rafting trips, Timber Trek - zip lines, bike trips and much more, it is truly amazing. I would highly recommend the resort to anyone. My friends and I paid good money to go white water rafting just to be belittled, name called and disrespected by our guide JOHN LONG. He called us "Ohio motherfuckers", trash talked us to other guides right in front of us, among several other comments. I don't doubt he had great knowledge of the river and knew what he was doing but he was extremely unprofessional otherwise. We listened to his instructions and not once did any of us fall out of the boat, make a mistake, etc. I'm sure by the end he didn't need to wonder why he received no tips, handshakes or thank you. This would have been a great time if not for him making passive aggressive comments the entire time. Everyone in my group of 6 left angry and dissatisfied. But hey if you go, the actual rafting is fun and you can request a guide. So my advice would be to request anyone besides the angry ginger named John Long. read more
