Honestly had a horrific experience here - Dr. Lavian has terrible manners, is incredibly discompassionate, and clearly does not care about patients one bit. I went in to get a prescription filled after the Affiliated Derm branch that I started with closed (such a loss, loved that branch) and asked about getting off of my acne medication. Dr. Lavian told me that I would always have acne and that all my acne would come back if I came off my medication, and the only way to ever get rid of it was by using Accutane (which I DID NOT want to due to to side effects, which are very well documented in addition to the medication having a literal Black Box warning). When I told him I didn't want to use that medication, he said he had never had a patient have side effects - which can't possibly be true - and that I shouldn't even try to get off my meds without starting Accutane first. He was wrong - I ended up going off of my meds with the help of a good naturopath and my skin is still clear. I know he only wanted the money he would get by having me on Accutane, and my experience made this clear to me. Don't come here. Find another practice. Find another doctor that cares. read more

Today I decided to stop by because I was in the area to make an appointment and it is 4:54 PM and their doors are locked and they close at 5 PM.... My insurance is in network with them. Used to go to one of their other offices before it closed. I had awful experiences at this location. Dr. Lavian was cold and robotic. He assured me that a rash I was experiencing was eczema. I informed him I had a biopsy done previously and it was shown to be psoriasis. He ensured me I was mistaken and opted to do a new biopsy. I got the biopsy results saying it was consistent with... psoriasis! He cut me off several times during our interaction while I was attempting to explain my concerns and experience. I'm sure he knows his stuff, but he needs to learn how to deal with human beings and not just their skin. I've since moved on to a new dermatologist. read more

Dr. Lavian was the most impersonal individual I have ever encountered. I want in for some skin cancer concerns and he gave me about a 30 second look over, then grabbed a can of freeze and sprayed 3 spots on my chest and walked out. He didn't even remove them properly because part of them are still there. He was in and out in 5 minutes. I didn't even get to explain any other areas of concern. There is one doctor here, as the nurse confirmed when I asked as the wait time is ridiculous. Appt time 3:10, but we got here at 2:55pm to start any paperwork or pay any copay if needed. We did not get called till 3:50pm!. They do not update you on if there is going to be a wait, or if they are running behind. The front desk lady stays on her personal cell watching videos. We get seen and it's only minutes of a visit and prescription fill. No apologizes given the long wait, nothing. Please; find another dermatology office. We used to go to the Ahwatukee location but it's closed now. read more

The staff is friendly, but I am always waiting between 25-35 minutes after my appointment time was supposed to start.

What a nightmare. Made an appointment, had to cancel cuz I was hospitalized, but gave a couple days notice. They still billed me $100. Finally got out of that, rescheduled by the text option they push you to use, with their awful phone system, so had it in writing, yet they had no record of it when I showed up. Would they accommodate me because that's a major error on their end and I only needed like 15 minutes? Of course not, they have lives and important plans don't you know. So have fun on your 20 minute drive back to work, we appreciate you wasting your time with us. read more

Only left 1 star because I had to. Saw the Dr for my annual check-up and was asked who "hacked" the previous spot on my back? My answer was, "you". Good review of my chart Doc! Was told I needed a biopsy on a spot on my back, I agreed to it. Fast forward a month later, I had to call several times for the results of the biopsy. Finally, after waiting nearly an hour on the phone, the lady tells me they misfiled my results but the provider suggests having the spot removed as it was cancerous. I agreed. Had the spot revoved after being told my portion was $225. Several weeks after the proceedure I get a call from them telling me that based on the results of my biopsy the provider suggests I keep an eye on this for the next several years to make sure it doesn't turn into anything worse. That's great info after you already carved it out of my back! To top it off, now they are charging another $700 because my insurance declined payment based on the fact it was an "elective proceedure". I've tried calling them atleast 10 times and I only get an automated call back. Nobody from billing every calls back and now they've sent me to collections. Not only will I ever go back, I tell everyone I know looking to go to a dermatologist this horror story! I will not pay it, I was LIED to! read more

My complaint is with the amounts charged for a medical service: my entire service was under 5 minutes, there was some discharge from a suture they had made, and it was removed by a quick needle poke, and a squeeze from a q-tip. This service was billed at $420! My insurance paid for some, they are an approved provider, but I had called the office to get clarification, thinking they billed the wrong code, cause how can the office visit be $175 and the q-tip squeeze that took a minute be $245?! While I understand the doctor can bill his rates, these amounts are insanely high, given the few minutes it took, and to me, it seems unethical; even though they are the nearest derm to me, I will not be returning. I have not had issues with the staff, or making appointments, or the doctor, so the place itself is fine, but the amounts they bill insurance and charge are unreasonable. read more

I LOVE affiliated dermatology but this location was not great. Twice during my visit I was told to "just hold on so I can look first" rather abruptly in the middle of me explaining my issues. and then one issue he said "yeah... im not sure what that is" and moved on. I 100% understand they can't have all the answers but a little digging and compassion when speaking would be nice. Will be sticking with the Scottsdale location for now! read more

Let me just start of by saying that Dylan Irish (PA - physician assistant) is freakin amazing! I had a bump around my knee for about two years and I thought not a big deal it's fine. However, it's started to grow and I was like okay I need to get this checked out. My boyfriend was actually shadowing Dylan at the time as he is trying to get into PA school. My boyfriend had nothing but great things to say about him so I said okay I would like to give him my business and would like to see for myself! The first appointment was quick and efficient. the staff was super friendly and so welcoming. Dylan was straight to business and knew exactly what it was right away. He's so good at his job that he was like that's a cyst in a matter of like a minute. Everything I was guessing was totally wrong but hey I'm just glad he knew what it was and what to do with it. He injected it that day, got me on some antibiotics, and then said okay we need to schedule for an incision. I wanted to wait until after my volleyball tournament which I explained to him and he totally compromised with me. I like that he took into account my daily activities and let me play up until my tournament. The day of the surgery was a breeze. Dylan did the surgery in like 25-30 minutes which was fast and it wasn't painful. He gave me clear instructions on what to do and I promised him I would listen to him. He told me not to exercise or play volleyball for two weeks which was kind of hard for me to do but I did it anyways because he told me not to and it would help with my healing. I just got my stitches removed today and he said it looks great. Overall the experience has been nothing but great and I would recommend him 10000%. It's nice to have someone take care of you that knows what there doing and is good at it! Thanks Dylan Irish for everything! You are seriously the best and I can't thank you enough! read more

I called and asked if I was in-network and would only be charged an office visit, I was told yes, so I scheduled an appointment for an initial visit. When I went on-site, a few pictures of me were taken, I was told they didn't know what was wrong with me, and they prescribed a topical to use. After that, I was told to come back in 6 weeks to see how I was doing. My follow up was scheduled for today and I was called to be told the air conditioning was broke so they couldn't get me back in for another 3 weeks rather than try to fit me in as soon as possible. In addition to that, I was charged $220 dollars for my initial site visit. When I called billing for an explanation, I was not given one other than I needed to call my insurance provider for a further explanation of benefits. I would not recommend this place - they will do what they can to get you to come in so they can bill you for any and everything. On top of that, they will not be accommodating when you need them to be. read more

Dr. Jonathan Lavian does not listen to his patients nor actually examine them. I saw the doctor for all of 5 minutes and dismissed all of my concerns. The other staff was nice and friendly but not worth it when you have a narcissist doctor on staff. read more

I've never had a problem with offices answering phones before until trying to be a patient at this location. It should never be this difficult to schedule an appointment or talk to a representative in general. After reading reviews, I realize Im not the only person who has had a problem with this as well. After calling multiple time and being place on long holds with no one answering except an automated response, I still can't even get a call back. The only time I did get a call back was at 8am before the office even opened! No message was left and of course they didn't respond when I returned the call. This is completely unprofessional and I suggest something be done about it unless this practice wants to keep losing more and more patients. The doctors here are fine which is why i'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. However, there are never any open appointments, which makes it almost not mean anything. I cant believe how much trouble i've gone through for no reason, I will just be going somewhere else instead. Something should absolutely be done about this since it is obviously a reoccurring issue with many people. read more

I called before hand to make sure their office visit was covered by my insurance, they said yes with a $60 deductible, after they submit a bill to the insurance, they leave you with a higher than quoted deductible. The "doctor" some guy without much doctor to patient conversation did not even take 5 minutes with me and gave not much information on my skin condition unless I asked him questions. I didn't feel that the office visit was of any substance, they still billed over the quoted upfront deductible. I will be changing dermatology office. Trish is hands down the best to get your lips done with!! I had never received any type of lip injections before and going into it was very nervous because I did not know how they would turn out. Trish truly is the best! She listens to what you have to say and gives her honest opinion and different options. She makes you feel absolutely comfortable. Gave me information that was wrong to get more money out of me I ended up seeking a second opinion and learned that my body would now be scarred forever due to what affderm did. They also take hours to answer the phone and the call back is always at the most unhelpful time and then you will end up having to call back again creating an unending cycle. I was also charged for something I had cancelled due to their new covid-19 rules when the receptionist told me I would not be charged for missing the appointment. I do not recommend this place at all. Bad customer service. read more

It is so hard to get ahold of someone. I called in advance to cancel my appointment and no one answered. They called me back days later, said they would make sure the appointment was canceled, then sent me a bill of $300 for a no show fee. I have called multiple times this week to dispute but cannot get ahold of anyone. I've called, reserved my spot in line, and left voicemails. read more

The worst practice in Tempe! We were unable to access the skin cancer results. Their results department are not answering their phone lines and they are not updating the patient portals with the results. I've waited on the phone for 35 minutes and we never received a call back from the clinician. I do not recommend this practice! read more

When they realized they had made a mistake, they refused to admit it and started making me wait months between appointments so I would go somewhere else. Mission accomplished. I strongly do not recommend this business. There are far better dermatologists out there, who presumably care far more about their patients wellbeing. read more

I've been to the Affiliated Dermatology offices in N. Scottsdale and the Ahwatukee Foothills where Jamie Gateway, R.N. treated me and she's awesome. Last week I tried the new office on Broadway, just East of Rural, and Erin, R.N., as well as her assistant (Laura?) were very nice, informative and helpful. The only drawback to this location, for now anyone, is that no surgeries are performed here. They can do skin checks, biopsies, etc. and then schedule you for treatment at one of the other offices though, plus provide aesthetic services, etc. here. I read the 10 other "Not recommended" reviews on Yelp and realized the only reason they were not recommended is because the reviewers did not check any stars even though they all were very pleased with Affiliated Dermatology. I hope they go back and complete their reviews because this business deserves the positive recognition. read more

Worst Experience I have EVER had at a doctors office. Huge bait & switch. I called the office for a cash price quote for a biopsy since I was in between insurance, which they gladly gave me around $190. When I went into the office the price schedule had changed & prices had went up, but only about $35 so I told them to go ahead. After they cut the biopsies out of my skin they informed me that if I wanted lab work done on them that I would need to pay an additional $385. I was really upset in the office, but ended up paying the lab fee because I had already paid the $200+ upfront thinking that was my ENTIRE price. (I went into the office knowing exactly what I needed, biopsies. I have had skin cancer 8 times previously). NOW, I get a letter saying I owe another $210 because the labs added some stain to my biopsies. What happened to the $200 we had agreed upon upfront for services? If I pay it am I going to get another miscellaneous fee? I got an initial price quote under $200 & without checking with me further (other than right after they cut chunks out of me) my cost is now at $800? read more

I booked an appointment for my daughter, who is going to ASU. She is an out of state student and needed help with her skin breaking out. I booked with Affiliated Dermatology based on reviews- HUGE MISTAKE. When a patient tells you they are allergic to something- don't keep insisting they just try it and see how it works. Your job is to listen- do your job, do better or find another job. Truly disappointed, you are supposed to be someone who can help!!!!! read more

I went and saw Hannah McCormick. I was very pleased with my visit to the Tempe office today. The staff was very friendly and they were able to get me in shortly after I arrived. The office is very clean, and the medical assistant at the front desk was very nice and professional. Hannah and the other medical assistant in the room made me feel comfortable during my procedure. Dishonest. Disorganized. Dangerous. I went in for a follow-up visit where they did the same procedure that has been done on my first visit. They billed me a ton of money again! I wrote a bad review for them. Prior to the review they would not address or acknowledge the issue with me. As it turns out both of the doctors that had seen me (only a couple months apart) no longer worked with the company (Huge Red Flag) to help explain to billing what happened. As it turns out the second doctor had no idea that the first doctor had already completed the procedure and so all the work and all of the lab bills that followed were completely unnecessary. The billing manager, after my review was written, agreed to refund my money but said my insurance company sadly would not allow it. I called the insurance company and they said she was not being truthful with me and they would be happy to help me facilitate that refund with her. Upon calling Dermatology billing back and explaining that insurance would allow the refund there was now no record of that conversation and the refund was never offered again. They did give me a small discount that was not even worth the amount of time I had to spend on the phone to get it. read more

NP Erin worries me how she has an office all to herself on the weekends because of how unprofessional and how little knowledge she has, she said "I don't know" to so much things it's frustrating.
