I bought the truck for $27k, made 36 straight payments on time which adds up to around $27k paid already... and I still owe almost $20k. Meanwhile the truck is falling apart. I looked into refinancing for a lower interest payment, but unfortunately most car loans are front loaded with interest in the first couple years, so refinancing now just restarts the front loaded interest payments. I am finally seeing the principal get paid. Basically I'm stuck unless I dump $10k to get away from this truck and loan. Truck was recently estimated around $10k trade in value, so to get into something else I'd need to come up with around $10k just to get out of being upside down. I understand bad credit loans are expensive no matter where you go. My son died, I completely fell apart mentally for a while, missed payments on my previous vehicle and it got repo'd. Once I finally started functioning again I needed a truck for work and DriveTime got me. Wouldn't even be as bad if the truck was actually in decent shape. I take really good care of my vehicles. This was just one of those "gotcha" situations and I wanted to share it so maybe somebody else doesn't end up in the same spot. Don't get got like me.

My original experience at Penske Toyota of Downey was extremely frustrating, and I stand by what I wrote about what happened during the transaction. We lost an entire day, the agreed price changed after credit was run, paperwork we had signed off on disappeared from the room, and we ultimately walked away because we no longer trusted the process. That said, what happened afterward deserves real recognition. Eddie, the General Manager, personally reached out to me after seeing my review. He did not make excuses, minimize what happened, or try to sell me another vehicle. He wanted to understand exactly what occurred and listened to the entire sequence of events. More importantly, he took responsibility for the customer experience and made a genuine effort to make things right. He followed through on what he said he would do and provided a written apology from the dealership. That matters. Anyone can run a business when everything goes perfectly. What tells you much more about a company is what leadership does when something goes seriously wrong. Eddie demonstrated that Penske Toyota of Downey has management that cares about its reputation, cares about the customer experience, and is willing to step in when the dealership falls short. My original experience was unacceptable, but Eddie's response changed my opinion of the dealership considerably. It showed me that what happened was not something senior management was willing to ignore or defend. I especially appreciate that he reached out personally, listened, investigated, apologized, and took meaningful steps to resolve the situation. That is how you handle a serious customer complaint.
