I understood, especially since I had been searching for a 4Runner with a third row for almost two months and knew how hard they were to find. I decided to go see it and I'm so glad I did. I worked with Tony and Mack and shared some of my hesitations. Instead of trying to convince me to buy that specific vehicle, they listened to my concerns and showed me other options that better addressed what I was looking for. They gave me time, answered my questions, and never once made me feel pressured. Once I made my decision, the finance process was just as easy. I've been coming to this location for a while and have never had any issues, which is why I feel it's important to share this experience. We came in for an oil change shortly before closing. I completely understand that it was later in the day, and I would have had no problem being told to come back another time. However, we were still accepted for service by Nancy Velasco and told the car would be ready in about 40 minutes. When we returned shortly after, we received a call by her asking where we were, and the tone felt unnecessarily passive aggressive. From the initial interaction to the follow up, the communication came across with an attitude that didn't feel welcoming or professional. I also spoke briefly with a manager, but the concern seemed a bit dismissed, which was disappointing. I truly understand that working with customers especially close to closing can be frustrating at times. But a simple, polite response goes a long way, especially for returning customers like us. Overall, I still value this location and the service I've received in the past, but I hope this is something that can be addressed moving forward. I had a very disappointing experience with the service department at Penske Toyota in Downey. I brought my Lexus in to replace the front wiper. They removed the already existing front wiper, but they did not tell me beforehand that they did not have the replacement wiper available. They were able to replace the rear wiper, but they also failed to check the rear wiper arm and did not tell me that the arm was broken. I only discovered the problem myself afterward. I requested to speak with the manager, Steven and he eventually called me. Unfortunately, he told me that there was nothing they could do about the situation. My main concern is the lack of communication and attention to detail. If a part is not available, I believe the customer should be informed before the existing part is removed. And if a wiper arm is broken during or around the service, it should be identified and communicated to the customer. I expected much better service and communication from a Toyota dealership service department. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend the service department. read more

UPDATE: Management stepped in and genuinely made this right I want to update this review because I believe in being just as public when a company does the right thing as when something goes wrong. My original experience at Penske Toyota of Downey was extremely frustrating, and I stand by what I wrote about what happened during the transaction. We lost an entire day, the agreed price changed after credit was run, paperwork we had signed off on disappeared from the room, and we ultimately walked away because we no longer trusted the process. That said, what happened afterward deserves real recognition. Eddie, the General Manager, personally reached out to me after seeing my review. He did not make excuses, minimize what happened, or try to sell me another vehicle. He wanted to understand exactly what occurred and listened to the entire sequence of events. More importantly, he took responsibility for the customer experience and made a genuine effort to make things right. He followed through on what he said he would do and provided a written apology from the dealership. That matters. Anyone can run a business when everything goes perfectly. What tells you much more about a company is what leadership does when something goes seriously wrong. Eddie demonstrated that Penske Toyota of Downey has management that cares about its reputation, cares about the customer experience, and is willing to step in when the dealership falls short. My original experience was unacceptable, but Eddie's response changed my opinion of the dealership considerably. It showed me that what happened was not something senior management was willing to ignore or defend. I especially appreciate that he reached out personally, listened, investigated, apologized, and took meaningful steps to resolve the situation. That is how you handle a serious customer complaint. I've been coming here for years to have my mom's RAV4 serviced, but this most recent visit was beyond disappointing. There was very poor communication, hardly any updates were provided, and the staff was fully aware that my mom was waiting in the lobby. Despite this, her time was clearly not respected. The service staff member, Juan R., was unhelpful, dismissive, and showed little concern that she had been waiting for hours. After eight long hours, not only was the job still unfinished, but they also cut through a part incorrectly and had to loan her a vehicle. To make matters worse, my mom -- who is over 70 years old -- became ill afterward due to sheer exhaustion from the experience. This was extremely upsetting and completely unacceptable. I'm sharing this to alert others, especially elderly customers, to seriously consider going elsewhere or ensuring someone advocates for them to be treated with the respect and care they deserve. read more

Very disappointed with my experience. I brought in my 2024 4Runner after having a lift installed and was experiencing PCS, adaptive cruise, and Crawl Control warnings immediately afterward. I came in looking for help with recalibration and diagnostic support, but I felt like the dealership was hesitant from the beginning and not very interested in helping resolve the issue. What really made the experience frustrating was that one employee actually suggested that I simply dim my interior lights so I wouldn't have to see the warning lights on my dashboard. I honestly couldn't believe that advice. I came in looking for help solving the issue, not for ways to ignore warning messages on a vehicle that was actively showing system warnings. To make matters worse, I ended up visiting another Toyota dealership afterward, and they gladly took the time to assist me, properly diagnose the issue, and help get it resolved. That experience showed me the problem wasn't that the situation was impossible or unreasonable--it was the lack of willingness to help. I understand modified vehicles can sometimes require additional calibration procedures, but I expected more guidance, professionalism, and better customer service from a Toyota dealership. Very disappointing experience. We reached out numerous times to get basic information about what it would take to place a deposit on a new car. We spoke with several employees, and each time we were told someone would get back to us--but no one ever did. We even spoke with a manager and still received no follow-up. Meanwhile, we reached out to another dealership, and they sent us the paperwork to sign and submit our deposit the very same day. That showed us how simple and professional the process should have been. The lack of communication, poor customer service, and overall weak sales approach were frustrating.
