Scheduling is terrible! We have used this company a few times and they are consistently a mess when it comes to what time they will arrive. Request a morning appointment, they will come in the afternoon. Request the last visit of the day, and they will text you day-of that they are arriving at 9am. No apologies, no communication. Called on Thursday Nov 20th to schedule a sprinkler winterization for Monday Nov 24th, but that appointment fell through. The company's owner apologized, refunded my prepaid bill and offered to accomplish a complimentary winterization. I have decided to change to another sprinkler maintenance company after being charged over $100 to do 30 SECONDS of adjustment to 2 sprinkler heads that were spraying on my driveway. If I knew I was going to be charged extra, in addition to my maintenance contract of over $300, I would have googled it and done it myself. So, I've signed with another company who is so much more responsive and they provided the same services at a lower price -- and sprinkler head adjustments are FREE. When we purchased our first home, we learned that having green grass is important, especially if you live in a neighborhood with an HOA. We had our sprinkler system as well as uplighting in front of our home (FYI, it's an added security measure) installed as one of our homeowner splurges. Scheduling and payment was easy, and the installation was completed within a half day. We had an issue with installation that affected our cable line but they were apologetic and provided us with a complimentary winterization service. A few weeks after installation, we voiced some changes we wanted with our uplighting and they were able to come within the next few days to fix it to how we wanted it to look. Communication has been transparent and timely throughout our experience. As of today, our grass has never been greener and everything is working properly so far! read more

ALS&L installed an irrigation system yesterday. 11 zones with 60+ heads, controlled by the HRC Smart Controller. I researched systems prior to hiring this company because the equipment they use is top rated! Peter, Aiden and their crew promptly showed up at 8am and worked non-stop (minus lunch break) throughout the day, finishing at ~5pm. The install was a little muddy due to recent rain, but they cleaned up the yard very nicely and left no traces of holes being previously dug. The entire team was professional, courteous, hardworking and displayed a cohesive team effort to accomplish their tasks. I would absolutely give your business to ALS&L. read more

Installed our system, and did a great job. System works well. Unfortunately, service is done more at their convenience than that of the customer. They will schedule a day, but cannot even nail down morning or afternoon until the day prior. It blows my mind that they aren't willing to even give you one FIVE HOUR WINDOW or another. They want to leave it open, so they can schedule to their convenience. I'm not consistently available in the afternoons, and they said I had to be here, so I'm having to go elsewhere. I have worked with Affordable Lawn Sprinklers for 20 years, but the customer service is the worst. I scheduled an appointment weeks before the appointment, no confirmation, and the tech doesn't show up. I called and they said a tech could not arrive. I called their owner who was non-chalant about it. They don't send out confirmations until 24 hours before, he said. Well, I wasted the day. Time is money in this town. Contracted with this company to install an 8 zone sprinkler system for my front, side, and rear lawns. The sprinkler system works pretty well, but the install experience was poor. There was massive damage to my lawn due to the machines used during the install, and they would not cover the cost of repair. Given the higher cost of this company vs. competing quotes, I would NOT recommend you use this company for your sprinkler system. read more

We contracted Affordable Sprinklers & Lights to install an irrigation system in our yard. We have a 0.25 acre yard and the install took ~3 hours from start to finish. I was expecting the yard to get a little torn up during install, but the lines are barely detectable. Before we hired Affordable, we got an estimate from BioGreen, but were more impressed with Affordable. The estimates were about the same price, but Affordable was more professional and thorough. Affordable pulls permits, gave us more zones, and a diagram. I recommend the Rachio panel box which is the one you control from your smart phone. They sell them on Amazon. read more

Everything went great considering we just moved into this house and were worried because the system we had was old and some parts of the system had been cut over the years when the precious owners installed a drain. Initially, the owner I am assuming was very patient with me and explained how the visit would go. He was professional and took a lot of time with me. And being a woman who has worked in Engineering most of my life I appreciated that he was not condescending. All went well, the service each came right on time and walked my husband through the system and helped readjust a few sprinkler heads, checked for leaks and fixed one head that had been broken. If you don't mind having to clean your carpets for an extra $180 I guess they are ok. I had work done by them - the sprinklers worked when they were done - but I then had to call a carpet cleaner to clean the carpets after they tracked mud all over the house. I have pictures and posted them on Angies list as this site doesn't have a place to post pics. I strongly suggest considering an alternative service. They are all about the same cost, same service it juse with Affordable Lawn Sprinklers you also have to be prepared to pay for carpet cleaning. read more

I have been a customer of this company for many years and initially, they were outstanding. Their responsiveness, customer service and professionalism was the best. I am not sure if this company has come under new ownership within the last year or so, but it's progressively gone down hill from there. I have contracted annual maintenance with Affordable for the duration of my relationship. They conducted spring "turn on" service and winterization every year. I have requested repair work on both my sprinkler and lighting systems periodically during this time as well. Until recently, those repair were addressed without issue and they always stood behind their work. I had lighting repairs done in the last few months, and albeit they were fixed, the lighting wires and wire nuts were left exposed above the ground. I scheduled a sprinkler service in April of this year for a repair accidentally caused by my landscapers. They sent one technician who was unfamiliar with how to make the repair. I was unable to communicate with him, so a back up was sent. I noticed in the last few days that water is deeply pooling in that same area and suspect that the former repair may be leaking. In speaking with Gabrielle about scheduling a service to check things out, he advised that the work may not be under warranty, only 4 months later. Their service fees have ballooned to $150/hour and with that attitude of not standing behind their work for a reasonable amount of time, I no longer feel comfortable using this company. read more

We got Ryan and crew out here last year to install our sprinkler system that has the Rachio control via phone app. Seriously these guys couldn't have done a better job or have been nicer. From quote to install there really wasn't a hiccup to the process. They neglected to bill us appropriately, but Ryan worked with our crazy schedule while I investigated with the bank and even gave us a free winterization service for our trouble. I'm envious of the positive reviews. I won't disagree with the responsiveness, but I wish I didn't need the responsiveness so much. We installed the system in 2014 and here in 2018 we've already had four or five leaks which have flooded either the front or back yards or both. The first time it happened they repaired it for free (after some back and forth), the second time it happened it cost over $100 to fix. I'm not sure whether the cause is faulty materials or installation but it doesn't seem like I should be having to deal with leaks once or twice every year. read more

They provide white glove professional service from the beginning to the end! They don't waste your time. Before they come onsite, they give you a swag of what the cost might be. It gives you an idea of what you might be spending. They are extremely knowledgable on well water systems and how/if your sprinklers will work with the replenishment rate. Ryan designs the system based upon the requirements and provides real time proposals. We decided to add lighting after we received our sprinkler proposal and Ryan had no problem coming back out and listening to our vision. We love that Ryan does not over sell! We described our vision and the final solution was perfect. Affordable Lawn Sprinklers are masters of communication!!!! Every company could learn from their communication model. At every point, I knew what was happening and what was going to happen next. The installation team were masters! We had an extremely large installation in rocky solid. Don't get started with this company. Once you have their sprinkler system installed, they will nickel and dime you twice year when they send someone to either turn it on or off and check the system. It's just annoying extra charges that should be included in the basic fee. read more

I am probably a hard person to please when it comes to contract work done around my home because I've had so many bad experiences, so I am always cautiously optimistic when choosing a new contractor. Affordable Lawn was great right from the start. I loved that they were able to give me an estimate without having to come over to the house, especially since I was living 1-hour away from our new home at the time. Based on our plat and satellite image, Joe was able to determine that I needed 5-zones. I also explained that we were going to install a patio in the future so the sprinkler heads in the back needed to be positioned to accommodate this. When the crew arrived, everyone was courteous and very professional. The lead guy was superb! Every person knew exactly what their job was and did it. It was like watching a well trained orchestra. I was so impressed. They were able to finish my work in a day with very minimum damage to my lawn. I was surprised to see they laid seed down as well! Oh, they also used copper pipe in my basement! Who does that anymore? Very impressed. About two weeks later, someone else came out to make sure everything was working properly. This final step was also very impressive. The gentlman went over the entire system with me, tweeked each head and checked the back flow. I mean wow! I highly recommend Affordable Lawn Sprinklers for your lawn needs. This has been our first experience with this company and it may be our last. The good: I like their name, it got my attention. The bad: 1) You have to pay over the phone when making your appointment (not after service is provided--this ended up being problematic for us. 2)They were not able to show up for the agreed upon time (twice!). Because they already had my money I did not call another company for service and had to reschedule with them for another date. During this time there was a freeze and my pipes froze! 3) The technicians: When the first technician did make it out and discovered my frozen pipes he stripped the plug covering the cap and had to install a temporary one and was generally messy (leaving plumbers tape thrown balled up in the grass). A week or so later, the second technician to come by told me he would arrive in 30-40 minutes...I waited and hour and 40 minutes for him to show up! And I am now late for work. As told by whoever made the first appt with me, "Most of our jobs are in the Fairfax area, and we don't get out to Gainesville/Haymarket so much so it is hard to schedule a time." Bottom line: If you live in Fairfax maybe you'll have better luck. As for me, hopefully I'll have better luck next time (with a different company). read more

They helped us layout the sprinkler system (plantbeds and lawn) and lighting, pointing out some factors that my wife and I had not considered on our own to develop a great design. They allowed us to reschedule the install to accommodate some unanticipated tree removal and landscaping that we wanted to take care of before the install. The install went smoothly and then a rep came out to walk us through the system's use, fine-tuning our watering needs (e.g. adjusting timing for sun vs. shade, angle of spray ...). These guys just installed a new sprinkler system at my home today and I couldn't be more pleased. I was hesitant about doing the install in December because I figured my lawn would look like crap until next spring. I thought there would be bald spots all over from the trenching and that I'd have to wait until spring to grow new grass. However, the crew cut away the sod before trenching and put it back in place afterwards. You can barely tell the install was done today. Oscar and his crew were also very courteous and professional.
