    Afghan Choopan is one of the few/limited restaurants in the greater Seattle area serving Afghan food. I am not an expert, so I would take this review from a casual diner's perspective. Located off the busy Bothell Way near Yakima's fruit stand, Afghan Choopan is tucked further inwards with outdoor seating and indoor seating. The inside is richly decorated with posters, outfits, and more. They have jewelry for sale. We left the movie theater and decided to go try them. I called them from the car to check if I need a reservation and/or if they are busy. The man who answered asked how many people. I said four, and we can be there in 10 to 15 minutes. He replied with some irritation saying I should have called earlier for reservations. I asked again if they are busy. He replied again that I should have called sooner. We hung up, and I have no idea if I made a reservation or rather they are busy. Anyway, we arrived to find a mostly empty parking lot. Inside, 3 tables were occupied with many empty tables. We surmised they must have wanted to close early as the other tables were wrapping up their meals. This was about 7:15 to 7:30. They close at 9. We did not wander in at 8:30 or even 8 for a restaurant closing at 9. The strange service continues. We were seated and given menus. Two female servers were soon cleaning the vacated tables. Our menus were down, and we were chatting. They continued to clear, clean, and set two vacated tables. We looked at each other wondering if they are not waitstaff and only buses tables. If they want us gone sooner, then they need to take our orders sooner. A bit later, a scruffy-looking man wearing flannels who looks like he woke up from a nap (the hair on the back of his head is literally standing up like he just got out of bed) appears at our table to take our order. He was plenty polite and cordial. Then he walks away, and we never saw him again for the rest of the night. It is clear he is the person who answered the phone. The two female servers delivered the food, well, more like tossed the food at one corner of the table. We obediently passed plates and food around to each other. For three rounds (soup, appetizer, and main courses), they stood at the same corner putting the food down at the same spot, then we are expected to pass it along. Then we are asked to repeat the process returning empty soup bowls, empty plates back to that same corner to be collected. Mind you, the aisles are not narrow; walking around the table is not an issue. We looked at each other and just laughed. We told our friend seated at that corner, "They must like you." The Food: Boolani ("Stuffed Bread"), $13.00 - 3 Stars Menu: Afghan flat bread stuffed with mashed potatoes, green onion and chives, served with yogurt sauce made of mint, garlic, and salt and a side of spicy chutney sauce. (Online menu says $11.) This was very good -- for the middle only. The two ends had little to no filling. I have had another version of this where it was much better stuffed. Lamb Qabuli Pallaw, $24.00 - 3 Stars Menu: The most famous dish in Afghanistan comes with perfectly steamed rice grains that shine like little pearls and a lamb leg or shank meat. Served with brown basmati rice topped with fried raisins and carrots. (Online menu says $18 only.) The lamb meat was tender and flavorful, but a touch dry on the outside as though it should have been served with in its own meat sauce. The "rice grains that shine like little pearls" were not on the plate at all. Meanwhile, a heaping pile of basmati rice buried the lamb shank. It was a bit odd but ok. Meat Combo, $19.00 - 3.5 Stars Menu: A meat and veggies combo that includes Chicken Korma with Qabuli Pallaw rice, Bandnjan (eggplant) and Naan (fresh bread). (Online menu says $17.) They offer to switch rice or eggplant with any of their other veggies. I chose cauliflower. The combination of both eggplant and cauliflower on the plate was oily, so I kept the plate tilted. The chicken was fairly dry. I mashed it with my fork and ate it with the saucy eggplant/cauliflower mix. It was tasty that way. The naan was a good size piece. Their version is dryer than Indian naan without butter/ghee applied. Lentil soup, free - included with entrees. This simple soup was quite tasty.

    It's an hidden gem very near ti Bothell Downtown. A very cute and cozy place to be in. Food is very good. We went to for lunch their and first we were offered with a complimentary soup and it was delicious . Then we ordered sabji , naan , Baloni , lamb kebab and all were delicious . Lamb was tender and looked like it was cooked for hours . They have books for kids and some toys for kids to enjoy as surprise .

    This was my first time trying Afghan food and I'm so glad I tried it here! I ordered take out and got the chicken kabob plate and the bolani. I wasn't sure if I would like the rice based off the description (I've never had raisins in rice before) but honestly found myself wanting more when I ate the last one, haha! It complimented the rice and chicken spices really well. Loved the entree. The bolani was SO good, highly recommend! It's a yummy bread filled with spices and comes with 2 dipping sauces (the white one was my fav).

    My friends and I wanted to try something different than what were used to AND also meet halfway as we lived relatively far from one another. This restaurant was one of the few places that caught our eyes, and we decided to it out! It's located next to the Yakima Fruit Market & Nursery on NE Bothell Way in Bothell. The restaurant could be easily missed as my group went straight to the market after missing the turn into the restaurant's parking lot LOL. There are signs but very discreet. There's two parking areas: one on the bottom and another on top. Lots of parking spaces! The restaurant looks look a house both exteriorly and interiorly, which can be very misleading if not for the tables set up. We had a choice to sit indoors or outdoors, and my group chose to dine outside as it was a beautiful day. The menu was kind of overwhelming to us as we didn't know what to really order LOL. My group and I settled for the Small Group Kebob Combo as it seemed like it came with basically everything we were looking at. Go big or go home! We had an option to pick what appetizers and vegetable we wanted. We chose the Mantu as our appetizer and the Dal-Subzi (lentil spinach) as our vegetable. The first thing that came out was the lentil soup. Mmm! It was very flavorful that the first bite was different from all the lentil soups I've had. Lots of "neutral" spices added in with the lentils. Next, the Mantu came out and was delicious! The yogurt was a great addition with its acidity to the savory. And there was more yogurt drizzled on to the meat dishes! Everything came all at once and there was soooo much food (peep at last pic). There was salad, lamb, beef patties, chicken skewers, rice, and naan bread. Everything was delicious! The rice was super unique to me as it had raisins and more of a broken rice unlike Asian cuisine. The naan was HUUUGE. Everyone enjoyed it with the meat dishes and basically had little rice with the amount of naan served. Each meat dish was unique in their own way with different spices and flavors mixed into each one. My favorite was the ground beef skewer (in the middle of the chicken and lamb plate) as it had a ton of spices that worked so nicely together. My boyfriend's and another friend's favorite was the chicken skewer as it closely resembled curry flavor. The lamb dishes didn't have a terrible gamey flavor and cooked perfectly! Everything was delicious! I loved how there was a great balance between vegetables and proteins and carbs! None of us had ever had Afghan cuisine. Trying this was very eye opening to exploring a new cuisine. If I had to describe it, the presentation of the foods were similarly to Mediterranean cuisine but the flavor was a mixture of that and somewhat Indian cuisine (not as heavily spiced tho). It was super unique! Definitely a hidden gem hidden in Bothell! Great place for huge groups as there was tables that can seat up to 15 people. AND they have combos that can serve up to that many people on the menu.

    I just ordered a dumpling (mantu) and it's all onion with no meat inside. Not sure what kind of restaurant is this cheap with food but that's not okay as I was craving it like no other. Please add more meat and stop ripping people off. I called to let them know and they spoke in Farsi and thought I couldn't understand! The woman had the audacity to tell me, the cook said " I'm the first to complain that there's no meat" well thank god for photos bc I don't see any meat and the cook didn't state anything, the rude old lady in the front did. Horrible customer service.

    The reviews don't lie - the food here is excellent! I ordered through DoorDash and got an estimate of about 45 mins - my food was ready in under 15! This was okay for me since it was nearby but something to keep in mind if you're planning around an order. There was nobody dining inside when I picked up my food (it was 7:30pm on a Wednesday). We got the okra (bamya) entree and the veggie combo with lentils & spinach (Daal Sabzi). The veggie combo is the way at to go in my opinion, if you're ordering veg. You get to try a variety and it already comes with naan and rice - otherwise for entrees you pay extra for either. As mentioned, the food was GREAT! I am 100% returning for more :)

    Ate at the restaurant and takeout with Uber Eats. Restaurant: we have been to Preservation Kitchen hundreds of times, so decor was as expected. The place was empty and seating only in the previous bar area but they don't serve alcohol. Sitting at the same place I used to grab beers, made me want a beer. We ordered the meatballs, dumplings, lamb dish, and eggplant. All were really well seasoned and yummy! The eggplant was not heavy with oils or butter, fantastic! Sometimes eggplant dishes can be a bit heavy but they hit it out of the park. The dumplings were amazing, wish we would have done two orders. The meatballs were also really yummy, would order all three in a heartbeat. Our only complaint is the food was served luke warm, I keep thinking how fantastic it could have been if it was hot. Server was a nice guy, did his job well. Overall, 3/5 stars for the cold food and no alcohol. UBER eats : no issues, tasted like restaurant and they come in containers that are easily heated in the oven. Plus I can enjoy a glass of red wine with your amazing food. 5/5 stars. They deliver to Cairn brewing. Primary flaw: no alcohol, we traveled in a lot of countries that have alcohol against their primary religion (and Utah ), they still serve alcohol to western folks (against their religion and country law). I highly, highly, highly recommend the owners select two or three local beers to serve and two local wines (white and red). Costco has a number of good ones you can buy for 6 to 10 dollars a bottle, sell them for $6 to $7 a glass. Keep it to local WA wine, don't serve Sutterhome, Barefoot, etc. Recommendations: serve a few options of wine and beer (the margins are so good and will increase traffic to the restaurant). Lastly, warm up the food a bit more, maybe prewarm plates. I wish this business great success, we are local and within walking distance. We will come back when you serve alcohol.

I don't like eggplant but found the taste of this to be delicious. It is a bit on the mushier side for my liking though Fish qorma - fish was cooked nicely in a tomato based sauce Seekh kebab - beef. I didn't really like this one as much since the meat was tough but the flavor was great. Bara kebab - lamb. I love this one as it was juicier and more flavorful Kabuli palaw - the rice dish that comes with the kebab. I love this - it's like jeweled rice from Iranian and Persian cuisine, which offers carbs and a bit of sweetness to it. Pairs excellently with the dishes Firni - cardamom, pistachio, rosewater pudding. Classic Afghan dessert. Quite sweet but refreshing at the same time. Love it Dogh - an interesting salty drink made with yogurt, fresh mint, and salt. It felt like I was drinking sauce but more palatable. Service is good as dishes were taken out in good cadence and food came out at a decent pace.

We started with the baba ghanouj and ordered the fesenjan and a beef kobideh for meals. The meals came with a salad to share rather than small individual salads on the plate which was a nice touch. The staff was able to provide some veggies with the baba ghanouj since my partner in crime can't have bread. The baba ghanouj was great - exactly the smoky eggplant flavor I was craving when I saw the sign for Persian cuisine. The kobideh was nice and tender - you could taste the onion. The fesenjan was also extremely good. One question: Who eats this much rice in one dish? The rice was very good - but it is a lot of rice. I haven't had Persian like this since we had Persian neighbors who invited us over.

I have avoided Zeitoon all these years because they are higher cost, not necessarily justifiable since there are lower cost Persian foods or similar Mediterranean restaurants in the area. I finally decided to try them. Our server answered my questions, including his favorites. Two questionable/sketchy things happened: 1. Our server recommended the Mirza Ghasemi, which he said is great with the optional soft-boiled egg. Sounds good. We ordered it. The optional egg is $2, which is not identified on the menu. (See photo) 2. When he recommended the Mirza Ghasemi, we asked him to remove the Mast O Khiar which we initially chose. I said we only want one appetizer. He nodded and said OK. When the Mirza Ghasemi arrived, so did the Mast O Khiar. They put both on the table and immediately left. I flagged the original server to remind him we said to remove it, but a different person showed up instead. He: "You want to cancel this? No problem." and took the yogurt away. I did not order this; it is not me canceling. Minus 0.5 stars from overall rating. The Food: Mirza Ghasemi + egg, $14 +$2 - 2.5 Stars This eggplant dish is the one recommended by our server. We do enjoy eggplant dips, especially warm versions. The optional "soft boiled egg" is not an American version but tiny threads of yellow egg bits mixed within the eggplant mixture. Honestly, we cannot taste the egg. It is borderline a scam. This dish would be 3.5 stars if it was $14 at the menu price, which is already on the high side. A $16 eggplant dish is delusional. Lamb Shishlik Kebab, $36 - 3.5 Stars Menu: Lamb rack marinated and chargrilled (see menu photo) I knew I would not see a rack of lamb on my plate. I got four lamb chops. Meat quality wise, this is excellent. It comes with a ton of basmati rice and a salad with a refreshing light dressing. This is a bit spendy for the quantity of meat, but taste is good. Soltani Shishlik, $42 - 3.5 Stars This is the exact same dish as above except add a skewer of grounded beef kebab. This kebab, and I quote my hubby, is "not that good". Same comment for the rest of the dish. A basket of lavash bread arrived at the table. I believe it came with the Mirza Ghasemi. We have eaten many lavash breads, commonly used as wrap so it is grilled and/or heat-pressed with oil on the surface. These lavash breads are simply warmed. I learned they taste terrible that way. The surface has a sandpaper texture and still taste like sandpaper when eating it. If I paid for this separately, I would be upset.

The chicken tika masala puts every other version I've had to shame, rich with visible herbs. The rice is fluffy, the meats are well seasoned. I love the lamb! The owners check on diners and are happy to explain dishes. The walls are adorned with beautiful fabric tapestries and the interior has a cozy feel. We ordered hummus, garlic naan, fish masala and special kebabs without lamb which was accommodated per our request. The food even the side veggies were really good, we all liked everything. I like this place for good quality fresh ingredients that I don't feel overstuffed. It's probably because the food is easy to digest? This doesn't happen with other Mediterranean and Indian food. Didn't snap a pic of the menu, but they had wraps ($10-12), platters ($12-14), Boolani ($7) and some other items. The main difference between the Wrap and the Platter is the presence of rice. They have sample plates set out of all their dishes which is very helpful (but maybe a bit wasteful if they do that every time?) We ordered the Lamb Kabob Salad Wrap ($12). It comes with 4 large chunks of lamb, and a small side of their special green sauce. The naan bread is very good and fresh made by the ladies behind the stand. It is a pretty thin wrap, but has enough pliability to hold up in a wrap and not disintegrate. I was impressed with the size of the lamb chunks and the quality of the pita, but overall I thought it was lacking in flavor. The lamb didn't have much flavor - some spices would have helped, and the sauces didn't add much either. At $12 it also seems a bit pricey, although you do get a huge wrap. However, most of the wrap is the salad which is lettuce and some onions and big chunks of bell pepper. Minor complaint - the lamb chunks and the bell pepper chunks were larger than bite-sized, so I ended up cutting these up to make it easier to eat.

Broad menu selection from weekend brunch, pizza, soups, to classics like hummus, lamb, beef, and chicken dishes. Service is always friendly and helpful and the prices are moderate for Seattle. Our favorites are the rainbow hummus (beet, chickpea, basil, yam) and the lamb kebabs. The muhammara is delicious too, but a little sweeter than we like. Turkish coffee is a short robust coffee, similar to espresso. Served with dark brown sugar and a Turkish delight candy, it is superb. The food here is awesome. From Turkish pizza and flatbreads to some delicately flavored kebabs. All served by some of the nicest people. I've been in a couple of times and there's always members of the local Turkish community eating here. Says great things about any ethnic restaurant when folks from that ethnicity choose to eat there.
