I am so sorry to hear that Kabul Afghan Cuisine is closing. I became a big fan during COVID, but…read morerecently went here is person when I heard the owners were retiring and they were going to close. The restaurant is comfortable (but if you are to go before they close, get there early because lines are long). Service was friendly and great. For appetizers, we had Bolani (potato turnovers) and Burta (eggplant and garlic). Both were unique dishes are really delicious, everyone in our party loved them and they were gone quickly. However what I love and will miss so much are the kabobs. I leaned to the lamb, but often got the steak. They were always cooked perfectly with just the ideal combination of spices. Really delicious. They will be missed.

We shared a bunch of appetizers: bolani, burta, and the mushroom qorma. Burta was my fav but every single dish was so flavorful. For my mains, I got the murgh kebab.. the chicken was so tender and well-marinated but the flavored rice stole the show for me. Also the place feels super authentic, cozy, warm, not trying too hard, just real. And the owner was hilarious, so witty, and made the whole experience feel extra special. You can tell he cares and it shows. Now the saddest part: I just found out this restaurant has been around for decades and is closing forever soon. Truly heartbreaking! I really wish I'd discovered it sooner. If you've been meaning to go, don't wait. This spot is a gem and def deserves a visit before it's gone. FYI, it closes on Jan 3rd 2026!

Cafe Sabah has easily become one of my favorite spots since moving to Washington. The flavors here…read morereally stand out! Everything has that deep, smoky, grilled taste that makes each bite so satisfying. You can tell a lot of care goes into the food. I tried a variety of dishes, and nothing missed, but the mixed grill plate was the highlight for me. It's the perfect option if you want to sample different meats, and every piece was flavorful, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The space itself is beautiful--very open, clean, and inviting. The music adds to the experience, giving it a great atmosphere without being overwhelming. There's also plenty of parking, which makes visiting super easy

The restaurant itself is pretty large too, with 3 different seating areas. When we arrived, there were a few parties already there in the middle and left sections. For some reason, they sat us in the right section all my ourselves. Other parties that came in after us were all sat in the middle section, so we were the only party in that area the entire time. We did get service, but it was extremely minimal. They didnt check on us at all, and we sat around for quite awhile waiting for someone to come by to get us our bill/clear the table. It definitely felt like we were being segregated against, as we were the only East Asian party there. :c We did really enjoy the food. Flavors were on point. But unfortunately, the service and maybe segregation overshadowed our entire dining experience here.

We always looked forward…read moreto picking up fresh Persian Sangak and Barbari bread, which in the past had been consistently good. However, during our most recent visit this past Sunday, we bought a large quantity of Sangak without inspecting it beforehand -- and unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. The bread was poorly made, and completely lacking the quality and texture we had come to expect. It was clear that something had changed -- either in the baking process, the ingredients, or most likely, in the oversight of the baking staff. This review is a call to the owners: please take immediate steps to supervise your baking team more closely. Whoever is currently responsible for production is not maintaining the standards that built your reputation. Failing to act will only drive loyal customers away and damage your business long-term. Sadly, after this experience, I will not be returning. I'm not willing to waste my time and money again on what used to be a dependable source of quality bread.
