    Salad included with platter
    Brendan F.

I got the mixed platter. To my surprise you have to ask for the piece of bread. It says it's included with all platters on website. When I got home no bread. Called and "she said brotha you have to ask for the bread" Salad was very watery. Food is nothing special. Had much better for less, $ 20 for a platter and they barely give you any meat and no bread unless you ask. Not to mention it smells like death inside the restaurant.

I love this place! I picked up food today and always try something different. This is the chicken kabob. Lightly grilled pieces to perfection. Brown rice and red onions, with lemon. They usually have 3 sauces, two shown and a green sauce, but was out of it. The entire combo and a yogurt drink was $17. Definitely a regular takeout for me, and it might be for you.

I loved getting the opportunity to try this hidden gem. SO GOOD. and I went in the kitchen as I was invited to try it and it was beyond clean.

Truly loved the food I got from this spot. I haven't tried much Afghan food, but it looks like I will need more after getting a try for the first time from Afghan Kabab House. I tried their chicken kofta/kufta paratha roll and the chicken samosas. Both were super delicious. And the prices are absolutely amazing for the prices! Such a fantastic deal for both items. They gave 4 very large pieces of samosas for $7. They are shaped more like patties. Super crispy on the outside and not too oily. There's only chicken on the inside. Seasoned very well. A tad on the dry side, but still amazing. The paratha roll was also exquisite. The paratha itself is perfectly made. A bit chewy, crispy, and overall amazing. They have a really tasty, somewhat creamy white sauce with the roll. For $9, awesome size. This place is called the Kabab house, so the meat has to be good. And it definitely was. The chicken kofta meat was still juicy when I ate the sandwich. Great texture, not too hard at all. The perfect amount of char. Amazing seasoning without being overpowering. Definitely recommend. All in all, highly recommend this place. It's locally owned and I believe the only Afghan spot in Pittsburgh. The meat is amazing and prices are great!

I love that Carnegie has been having a resurgence the last few years. With it, a lot of great locally owned restaurants. This includes Afghan Kabab House! The owners and employees are AWESOME!!! Seriously some of the nicest people ever. Food is available for take away or dining in. I really love the Chicken Tikka, Beef Kofta and wraps. They even have basic food items like burgers and fries (but please order something authentic). Meats are always well seasoned and tender. Every bite leaves a lingering taste of delicious in my mouth.

We had lunch here today and it was delicious. Large enough portions with the platters to make two lunches (we exercised a LOT of self-control and took half home). The restaurant is brightly-lit and colorful, the woman who took our order was helpful and the food arrived very quickly. Each of the platters came with a separate salad and a bottle of water. The brown basmati rice was very flavorful (it wasn't just plain ol' rice, had some herbs and spices mixed in) and my husband's chicken kofta kebabs were tender and very good. My falafel was also spiced just right and nice and crispy on the outside. The only issue I had (and it was a minor one) was that I ordered Afghan tea, expecting a spiced tea, and was instead given a small to-go cup of hot water with a green teabag. Not a big deal, though, the meal more than made up for it.

Haven't got the slightest clue how this place has 4.5 stars, but the suburban Suburban crowds aren't known for their middle-eastern cuisine prowess...so, there ya go. This might be the most overpriced wanna be middle eastern (or whatever) food I've ever, unfortunately, paid for. That's not 'tzatziki', that's RANCH!! Hidden valley to be exact. And it's somehow more gross on the ice burg/pale tomato salad crap they dish to start. The meat wasn't terrible, but the $17 price for 4 tiny cubes of lamb then a $2 bottle of water, was. They don't even offer a glass faucet water. The guy who took my order was unpleasant.

What a delicious experience! I am really impressed at the variety of food options available in Carnegie. A bonus for this place is how late they are open. We needed someplace to eat after my son's performance and they were one of the few in the area still serving food. When you enter, there is a counter area where you can order takeout and in another room is the seating area. There are two separate areas: one with standard tables and chairs and one area where you sit on the floor (on beautiful rugs and pillows for comfort). It was really interesting seeing an area that is true to the cuisine's country traditions. We ordered a Mantu (steamed dumplings with beef and seasonings) and babaganoush for our appetizer and a family platter for our entree. Everything was delicious. The meat on the family platter was perfectly seasoned and the rice has a flavor that compliments the meats well. The sauces they give to accompany the meal were perfect. My favorite was the cilantro which had a fresh taste and a bit of a kick. A plus to the family platter is that we had plenty of leftovers to enjoy at home. We'll definitely be back.

Came here late on a Thursday night after a play at the Stage 62 in Carnegie hoping to get a quick bite to eat before going home.. so glad we stopped! The kind lady at the counter assured us it wasn't too late and that she'd be happy to fix up a chicken kebab salad for us! We dined in, the atmosphere is small and cozy, and this particular night it was quiet, so I would say it's a great spot for a weeknight date! Our salads were spectacular and loaded with middle eastern flavor! The chicken was perfectly cooked and surrounded by tons of fresh veggies- the highlight here is the house white sauce for the dressing- we also asked for a side of their cilantro sauce to mix with it. All I can say is the flavor was out of sight, fresh and healthy. Can't wait to return when I'm craving a good for you , but not lacking in taste dish!

Since there aren't many Afghan places around, I wanted to try as much of the menu as possible. I decided to try the bolani kachalo, tandoori samosa, chicken kebab with brown rice, homemade cake, and Afghan naan. The food was very good. The chicken kebab came in a generous portion. The chicken was cooked perfectly and quite tender. It was juicy and flavorful but not too spicy. There was also a refreshing side salad with some creamy sauce on the side, which was very good. The rice was well cooked too but nothing special and had no extra seasoning. I do wish they had a yogurt sauce come with it complimentary. The bolani was interesting. The portions here are large and this was large too. It's a tad crispy on the outside and has potato and some leeks on the inside I believe. It's good but nothing special. Does have some spice to it. The samosa was once again also quite large but surprisingly light. It's delicious with fresh, juicy lamb on the inside. The corners are crispy. This was pretty perfect. Maybe a tad more seasoning but still very good. The naan at this place is some of the best I've tried in terms of value. It's absolutely huge, like, bigger than a persons head. Think pizza size. Crispy bottom and soft on top. Very good. Finally, the homemade cake was a nice sweet treat to end off the day. Nothing too special but good. It had cream and orange pieces throughout. Like an orange Swiss roll but better. I liked it and it was cheap. All in all, a great new addition to Blawnox. I love the homemade feel and how fresh + delicious everything is. Would definitely recommend!

The space is tiny and unassuming, and the restaurant seems to be a family run operation. The interior is much more nicely kept than you might guess based on the outside of the building. The staff were very friendly, and all of our food was well packaged. I strongly suggest taking a look at the "Persian Cuisine" section of the menu; in many cases, that section is more interesting than the Turkish grill. In terms of food, things ranged from excellent to pretty good. The hummus was good and nicely textured, but not exceptional. The kashke ve bademjan was excellent, particularly when paired with the nicely toasted flatbread it arrived with. The Mediterranean salad and Tabouli salad were both nicely done, with a nice level of lemon acidity and some shredded cheese on the side. The veggie kebap was fine, but generally flat in flavor: it really needed some of the sides and some hot sauce to fill things out. The red lentil soup was simple with a subtle spicing but ultimately deeply flavorful. The ash reshteh (noodle soup with beans and spinach) was generally good but would have benefited from toppings that would have probably been provided in a dine-in environment. All told, this was a nice little establishment with some excellent Mediterranean and Persian style cuisine. They seem to churn out some high quality food from what seems like a very small kitchen. I could imagine eating in or ordering takeout, but note that the interior space is fairly small with a limited capacity.

Nice amount of stew and beans. Great packaging too. The brown rice was well made, too, and a great side to this stew. They also included a lovely little side salad to go alongside this meal. They offer six different bases, which can each be served with white rice or brown rice. Each dish comes with a small side salad (with chatni/dressing), and a Persian style custard dessert (ferrini/ferni). The salad was well done and made for a nice accent. The ferrini was almost certainly something that some care had been put into getting right. It was well balanced, flavorful, and well portioned. The actual stew components seemed to be lacking, but that might be a result of our focus on the vegetarian options. We ordered the red beans and the vegetable medley, and both were reasonably well seasoned but lacking in any real character. The red beans stood on their own and worked reasonably well with a side of rice. The vegetable medley seemed like it started its life as a bag of frozen vegetables. Neither was bad, but they also weren't worth seeking out. Perhaps the meat-based options are much better crafted, and my experience is entirely a result of the particular items I ordered. Perhaps not. Either way, I would very much prefer to find a restaurant that is able to create vegetarian options that are just as well executed as their meat-based options.
