I visited Kabab house around 12pm on a Thursday. There were a few others inside but plenty of other tables available. You order your food at the front counter and they bring it out to you when it is ready. They said it would take about 25 minutes which was surprising to me but the time went quickly. I ordered the hummus and chicken kabab salad. Both were really good but the hummus was excellent! I should have ordered some to go. It was easy to find street parking so when in the area again, I will definitely stop by! read more

When searching online via Google or Yelp, this restaurant is still listed as Afghan cuisine. However, that is no longer accurate. After speaking with the cashier, we were informed that the restaurant has changed ownership--from Afghan to Pakistani--and the menu has been updated accordingly. I was genuinely excited to try authentic Afghan cuisine, so this was disappointing. While mantu is still listed on the menu, it was unavailable at the time of our visit. We were told it must be ordered ahead of time and is typically only available in the mornings. Overall, the food resembled that of a standard Middle Eastern restaurant and lacked distinctiveness or authenticity. If you are looking for a more Americanized version of Middle Eastern food, this place may be acceptable; otherwise, I would recommend exploring other options. We visited around 8:00 p.m., and several items were already unavailable, including chutney, which is one of the main sauces I particularly enjoy. A white sauce was available on every table, but it differed from the traditional yogurt-based white sauce common in Middle Eastern cuisine and had an unexpectedly sour taste. Called and "she said brotha you have to ask for the bread" Salad was very watery. Food is nothing special. I love this place! I picked up food today and always try something different. This is the chicken kabob. Lightly grilled pieces to perfection. Brown rice and red onions, with lemon. Truly loved the food I got from this spot. I haven't tried much Afghan food, but it looks like I will need more after getting a try for the first time from Afghan Kabab House. I tried their chicken kofta/kufta paratha roll and the chicken samosas. Both were super delicious. And the prices are absolutely amazing for the prices! Such a fantastic deal for both items. They gave 4 very large pieces of samosas for $7. They are shaped more like patties. Super crispy on the outside and not too oily. There's only chicken on the inside. Seasoned very well. A tad on the dry side, but still amazing. The paratha roll was also exquisite. The paratha itself is perfectly made. A bit chewy, crispy, and overall amazing. They have a really tasty, somewhat creamy white sauce with the roll. For $9, awesome size. This place is called the Kabab house, so the meat has to be good. And it definitely was. The chicken kofta meat was still juicy when I ate the sandwich. Great texture, not too hard at all. The perfect amount of char. Amazing seasoning without being overpowering. Definitely recommend. I love that Carnegie has been having a resurgence the last few years. With it, a lot of great locally owned restaurants. This includes Afghan Kabab House! The owners and employees are AWESOME!!! Seriously some of the nicest people ever. Food is available for take away or dining in. I really love the Chicken Tikka, Beef Kofta and wraps. They even have basic food items like burgers and fries (but please order something authentic). Meats are always well seasoned and tender. Stopped by Pittsburg on our way to Cleveland for the 2024 Solar Eclipse, and were craving Afghan food. After reading various reviews, we decided to give Afghan Kabab House a try. We ordered a combo platter (Lamb Tikka and Beef Tikka) and a kabab platter (2 chicken kofta) with a side of Mast-E -khair. The chicken was good; however; the lamb and beef were both extremely well done. They also did not have forks for carry out which was a bit odd to me considering that they had the option for takeout. We had lunch here today and it was delicious. Large enough portions with the platters to make two lunches (we exercised a LOT of self-control and took half home). The restaurant is brightly-lit and colorful, the woman who took our order was helpful and the food arrived very quickly. Each of the platters came with a separate salad and a bottle of water. The brown basmati rice was very flavorful (it wasn't just plain ol' rice, had some herbs and spices mixed in) and my husband's chicken kofta kebabs were tender and very good. My falafel was also spiced just right and nice and crispy on the outside. The only issue I had (and it was a minor one) was that I ordered Afghan tea, expecting a spiced tea, and was instead given a small to-go cup of hot water with a green teabag. What a delicious experience! I am really impressed at the variety of food options available in Carnegie. A bonus for this place is how late they are open. We needed someplace to eat after my son's performance and they were one of the few in the area still serving food. When you enter, there is a counter area where you can order takeout and in another room is the seating area. There are two separate areas: one with standard tables and chairs and one area where you sit on the floor (on beautiful rugs and pillows for comfort). It was really interesting seeing an area that is true to the cuisine's country traditions. We ordered a Mantu (steamed dumplings with beef and seasonings) and babaganoush for our appetizer and a family platter for our entree. Everything was delicious. The meat on the family platter was perfectly seasoned and the rice has a flavor that compliments the meats well. The sauces they give to accompany the meal were perfect. Delicious food, excellent seasoning & cooked properly. I had a chicken type kebab dish that the server recommended since I wasn't exactly sure how Afghan dishes would taste. It was a busy night with a really diverse crowd. It's a smaller place but comfortable. Not too fancy, not too "not fancy." Lol. They could've used an additional server, but ours did a good job. This new place in Carnegie opened just under two months ago, and today I stopped for my first visit to have lunch. I was expecting take-out only, but they do have three tables for dine-in, plus, they also have some traditional Afghani floor seating as well (see photos). Since there were no other dine-in customers, I decided to eat inside instead of takeout. Masks are required here, and they also have a machine that takes your temperature when you come in. Plexiglass was used around the cash register, and there were several bottles of hand sanitizer spaced out around the restaurant. It was also very clean. I ordered the Two Beef Kofta Kabab Platter, which comes with salad and rice. It was very good. I also had an Afghani Tea, and it came pre-sweetened. I wanted to try some dessert, but I was very full from eating the platter, and I had no more room to indulge. Maybe next time? I look forward to coming back again, and trying some of the other items, such as the Mantu, Bolani, Burani Badanjan, Falafel, Firni, and some of the other types of kababs . . . Cheers! P.S. Cafe style atmosphere and pricey food stands out on face value however giving it a try with multiple dishes to understand what the spread was like. Meat portions are limited and depending on the day the cooking can vary too. Tons of rice underline most platters. Rice is ok but meat portions are expecting one to fill up with rice. Salads are fillers but the onions have an awesome dressing that if in lettuce and tomatoes would make them nicer. We ordered delivery from Door Dash, having never tried this restaurant before and the food was delicious, came neatly packaged, and exceeded our expectations. We tried the chicken kofta, chicken tikka, and beef kofta -- all very good, well seasoned and served on a generous bed of rice, but we all agreed that the chicken kofta edged out the beef. The rice is nicely spiced, but had a significant cumin flavor (in addition to other spices) so if you're not a cumin fan, don't be surprised if it's a little much for you. The cilantro chutney and hot chili sauce were tasty accompaniments. The unexpected star of our meal, for me, was the bolani. We also ordered the Afghan naan which was okay but a bit tough. I got takeout from Afghan Kabab House on Friday and it was my first time trying it. I had heard many good reviews, and it's close to home, so I went for it! My friend and I ordered seven appetizers and a dessert. Unfortunately they forgot the dolma, but didn't charge us for it. We tried Mantu, Bolani, Burani badanjan, Chicken sambosa, Tandoori wings - clay oven baked, and Mast-e-khiar. I was most excited about the dumplings, but unfortunately they didn't really have a lot of flavor in my opinion. The burani badanjan, or eggplant cooked with tomato, was my favorite. It was super flavorful and yummy. I liked how they included lots of condiments, like their cilantro sauce, house white sauce, and hot sauce.
