It's been awhile since I've been here, but thought I should share my experience. I've been here a little over a handful of times and would recommend it to people that love to explore or hang out around downtown AA. Like many yelpers have stated, the format is like a cafeteria and if I remember correctly, the set up us slightly different on the weekends. When they are really busy, you just wait in line to get seated. I've gotten potato pancakes here before, that came with applesauce I think it was and it was pretty tasty. It was my first time trying them so I didn't know what to expect but I do remember there being chunks of potatoes in the pancake. Their afternoon delight breakfast sandwiches are pretty good. They remind me of a healthy version of Mcd's bfast sandwiches, minus the grease and a delicious side of ranch dressing to dip the sandwich in. I've also gotten just eggs and hash browns a la carte and to be honest, it was a lot better than Coney Island eggs n hash. The only reason I don't venture out to AD is because I try to stay away from downtown. read more

I haven't eaten at Afternoon Delight for years until today for brunch. I remember going there for the salad bar, being woefully disappointed with the options, and leaving hungry and a few dollars poorer. However, I have to say some good things (and one small bad thing) about my brunch experience. What I had was only so-so which happened to be the eggs benedict. I'm not sure if they were just off their game today or they're usually like this, but the English muffin was not crunchy and the poached eggs were overcooked. The overall flavor was still acceptable, however. What my wife had was wonderful. The menu said Ann Arbor's best pancakces, so she decided to test this out. Sure enough, the pancake (read: one because it's absolutely huge) was tasty, crisp on the edges and soft on the inside. The strawberries were fresh and sweet. I'm not a big sweet breakfast eater, but if I was, I'd go there for the pancakes. A frequent on my list of of lunch places during the week, the best part about Afternoon Delight is the owner and his great staff. After visiting less than a handful of times, they knew me by name, and quickly remember the "regulars" and their "favorites." They have great home-made muffins, different each day, and they have a chicken salad with fruit lunch dish that has become an absolute favorite of mine (but at almost $9 it's a once-a-week treat). They have fantastic soups too. Get a frequent diner's card and after 10 lunches, you get a free one. Table service for breakfast and seat-yourself for lunch. $5 minimum cc charge. read more

I had been eyeing this place for years before I actually ventured in a couple of months ago. First of all, the prices are quite reasonable by Ann Arbor standards. The food is consistenly delicious and varied and thankfully, I've never had food poisoning after visiting. I recommend their biscuits and gravy (better than most of what I remember growing up down south!), their whole wheat raisin french toast and their light and fluffy pancakes. The waitstaff is very friendly as well and your coffee mug is bound to be refilled quickly. All in all, this is my favorite breakfast place in Ann Arbor (including Angelo's). read more

Really, really good breakfast. Huge and tasty muffins, great omelets, and, a variety of satisfying and yummy breakfast sandwiches. We frequently go in Saturday mornings after going to the Farmers Market. On football Saturdays, the line starts to build up between 8:30 and 9, so get there early. read more

First time at this place and I was impressed. The food was for sure worth the wait. Obviously nobody loves waiting, but it means that it's really that good, especially in Ann Arbor. I had a bran muffin and biscuits and gravy. I highly recommend both of them. Our service was fast and friendly. I think the prices are reasonable and menu has a little of everything. The only thing lacking is the decor, somewhat outdated and odd plants hanging from the ceiling. I will be back in the fall when I'm on campus again. Thanks! read more

The food here is delicious and you get a large portion, an omelet and a bagel would keep you full until dinner. I like their seafood omelet and smoked salmon benedit. The frozen yogurt is more like ice cream than yogurt, taste more sweet than usual frozen yogurt. read more

Blueberry muffins anyone? We love coming here for breakfast and always get something to take home - yes muffins! They are huge and can be shared with others. Our department always gets catering from Afternoon Delight. They are known for their muffins, with huge muffin tops! I've heard the brownies are really good too, possibly even better than Zingerman's. The servers are always very nice. Last time I went we got free froyo just because they asked us to move tables. Afternoon Delight has all the traditional American breakfast foods i.e. pancakes, waffles, french toast, eggs, bacon, etc. but I like that they have some creative items too like their veggie boule, which is a bread bowl with scrambled eggs and cheese instead of soup. One also always has the option of jazzing up waffles or something plain by putting froyo on it. I still don't think it's worth the long wait since it's primarily a basic diner, but I suppose if that's what you're craving this is the place to go. Note that you're supposed to bring your check up to the counter to pay after the meal. read more

This is the best brunch spot in Ann Arbor by far. If there's a line, it's worth the wait. They always keep your coffee cup filled. I have had multiple things from the menu and haven't been disappointed. The omelette are huge and delicious. The eggs Benedict, especially the veggie eggs Benedict are great. We arrived minutes after opening at 8am and it was already half full! Very impressive! The personnel was friendly and immediately offered coffee upon being seated (appreciated very much early in the morning). The portions of food are on the larger side, I had a salmon bagel, very tasty with a significant amount of sides- olives, capers, tomatoes. Would return any time! read more

I really want to give this place 4.5 stars, but yelp doesn't believe in half of a star. I love their corned beef hash. It's actually not from a can (weird huh?). The grilled cornbread is also very delicious too. Wish I had tried this place sooner but went there this morning for breakfast on a recommendation for something different. Wow. Diner style in terms of space and ambiance (except for the interesting local art on the walls), but I do not mean that disparagingly since I love a good diner for breakfast. What I mean is really good eggs, waffles etc. However, definitely more sophisticated than your average diner. Really good eggs Benedict especially on Sunday when you can get it on a potato pancake instead of an English muffin. Also, they let you build your own omelet and, while that may seem pedestrian and hardly worth noting, they really let me make my own dish. So they had an omelet with nova salmon (lox to me) with some spinach and a few other ingredients that, while I am sure worked well, just was not what I wanted. Instead, I asked the server whether I could have the lox (eh Nova Salmon) sautéed with some onions and then scrambled with some eggs. Not to be like Danny D in Get Shorty and deliberately order something not on the menu, but I really just wanted some old fashioned lox, eggs and onions. No problem!! I enjoyed every visit to this place! Friendly staffs, good food, fast service, and laid back environment. What's more to ask for? I've tried their vegetarian sandwich, which came with a side salad that you can choose by yourself at the salad bar, and the sandwich was a huge portion, and I could barely finish it (I did finish it, though... :)) Another time I went, I really wanted soup, and they had two kinds of vegetarian soups available: vegetarian soup (of course), and gazpacho. I couldn't make up my mind, and the girl behind the counter let me try out both! I ended up getting the vegetarian soup, since I wanted something warm, but the gazpacho was also very good. If the weather was a bit warmer, I would have gone for it. And I know everyone's mentioned it, but their blueberry muffin is GOOD! Tons of blueberries, and the crunchy top... I wish I had the "end" piece, so I could enjoy more of the crunchiness. :) I would definitely go back there anytime! :) read more

I went there for breakfast this morning just hoping to get some standard fare. I didn't experience a wait but the waitress seemed very eager to get me to leave. I'm by no means someone who spends a large amount of time in a restaurant and I found that annoying. The food was ok. I got a blueberry muffin which was out of this world. If you're like me you might want to know they don't have breakfast potatoes with their meals. I'm in the area on occasion so I probably won't go here again. read more

This place is a great local staple - they make great reubens, giant muffins, have papaya juice on tap and a very nice salad bar. I meet friends for lunch all the time during the work day as it's within walking distance. I don't know if you'll find a better salad bar downtown, the only thing I can think of that rivals this is Produce Station. read more
