Ok a bit of a mix here. On the plus, the flavor combinations are good...on the hipster side, but very tasty. There's a Dark Matter Brownie batter that's crazy good even though it looks like squid ink. Recently, I tried Afters for the first time. The descriptions of the ice cream sounded refreshingly new, but the prices were a bit high. But, I gave it a shot. I also ordered 3 bottled sodas. I ordered vanilla cookie cream and chocolate marshmallow. The order arrived on time, a plus. I dug into the ice cream, both of them. The first taste was something akin to a chemical. I love afters!! My favorite ice cream place ever. I recently came and tried the salty oreo and it's definitely my favorite ice cream flavor ever now. I hope they have it stay on as a permanent flavor. I was craving it so much I went to the alhambra location because the Pasadena one wasn't open yet but it was closed so i had to go to Cold Stone. Ew. The milky bun is so unhealthy but so delicious. The bun is warm and the ice cream is cold and sweet and they make such a good combination. Dessert wise, this place is unique and satisfies your sweet tooth. New flavor "Black Matter" is really good! This review is strictly on how they handle the food during COVID-19. The cashier should not be involved in making the food. Handling money from hundreds of people a day while wearing the same set of gloves is dangerous and having the same person handing you the food could put people at risk. I saw the cashier handle a ton of bills and coins and proceed after to open the paper which carries the dessert by spinning his hand in it all while wearing the same pair of gloves. I mean at least use one hand for handling money and one for giving the food to customers but to be indirectly "touching the food" with the same glove is disgusting. I encourage this place to be more aware and conscientious serving food during this time. read more

During my visit in Cali I came across this place when craving sweets. I figured just a doughnut and an ice-cream, two basic things together - bleh. But after experiencing Afters, their doughnut ice-cream sandwich is definitely unique. I ordered a glazed doughnut with strawberry crunch ice-cream and fruity pebbles/ Mochi toppings. It was perfect! The size of the ice-cream sandwich was moderate but filled with a lot of flavors that blended well together. The environment is hip. It's like a shack with tables around and when you're standing in line they have instructions along the way as to how you order, which was helpful for my first visit. The customer service is great, as late as I came, they were still upbeat and enthusiastic when taking down my order. The jasmine tea was purple and had a light flower smell, so it owned up to its name. Good thing I asked for a non glazed bun because ice cream itself is already sweet. My boyfriend got the dark matter brownie even though it looked like it came from the inside of a squid. I do not even like chocolate flavors but it was actually quite good and he gobbled it up. When they first hand it to you, it's warm, but you start eating it and you can't even tell it was warm. It gets pretty messy. It was so difficult to eat the bottom without using my fingers. The milky bun was stuck to the wrapper because of the glaze. For $6 no tax, it's pretty worth it. The location is a landmark and they aren't allowed to do anything drastic including the front door. They do service out of a tiny window of a door and that's how they get in and out. It's actually pretty awkward. Everything goes through that one window. This is definitely a place to take out of town guests visiting SoCal. It's new and cool for those that haven't tried before but on a day to day it doesn't carry its weight as the ice cream isn't all that spectacular. I heard about this place and was lucky to have friends that wanted to try it too. We stood in line for 30 minutes to get to try this wonderful experience.
