After hearing so much about this place, I finally gave it a try! What kind of ice cream place takes over an old gas station? This location is probably the cutest! I came here for the Rick and Morty event and it was packed! We waited about 2 hours, the first 50 customers to purchase got a free tee! I was in. Let me start off by saying that this was a pretty cool event, two limited flavors and new merchandise sounds pretty awesome right? All was going well until people started cutting in line. We went from number 34 to number 45. Customers were going wild, some guy even got loud and almost fought a guy who cut the line. Afters, if you're going to host events please be organized. You could have given out tickets or numbers to the first customers! I probably sound biased from one event but the way the manager handled the situation was rude and unprofessional. The ice cream was pretty good though, I got the Jasmine Milk tea Milky Bun and it was amazing! This was seriously worth the wait, I didn't care about the shirt at that point haha. I could swear that I had no room for dessert after my full-on meal with my friend but we went all the way to Pasadena just for this beauty... Afters has been all over my IG with their blue cookie monster ice cream inside donuts! Finally got around to trying it one Sunday evening. Pulled up to their cute little gas station(?) set up on the corner and luckily, there was only 2 people ahead of us in line! We tried a couple of ice cream flavors and settled on the strawberry with cookie crisp milky bun. The bun came out quickly and it was warm! Yummo. Really enjoyed the fresh fruit flavor of the ice cream and the contrast in temperatures and textures of the whole thing. I heard this location was ready to go. Taking over a historical spot is a great idea. Just from a customer point of view, what do you really have to do but to maintain the place as it is? Paint almost everything white, hook some sound and put up those rope partitions so everyone knows the line starts here. Doesn't matter when you arrive, expect some sort of line. My first trip to this spot looking over the menu. Seems oddly familiar, which is the same menu as the other location in the South. I had to try a few samples but wasn't sure how many I could try while people were waiting behind me. I ended up getting Triple C's and Cookie Butter in a cup. That's an extra $0.50 for a half and half one scoop. Next trip after dinner, where do you wanna go After? Here we go again. I showed Kym B this place and it was like showing her an ice cream cone already. I never understood the milk bun thing anyways and we both didn't really want that. The last time I went to Afters Ice Cream I just ordered a cup of the Mint Monster and it was really tasty. I am not really a donut fan so I didn't order the bun. I already veered off my diet just getting the ice cream by itself. My husband and son love the buns. No comment. Luckily there were no lines on the sunny Saturday afternoon we stopped in. Long line... One long line for a scoop. And by the time you get to the front, you just wanna get it over with. You feel bed for wanting to try a sample cause just like you, everyone's waiting... and waiting. So you don't, hoping what you choose based on photos or what you read will be a satisfying one. Same window to order, pay, sample (if you dare) and receive your ice cream. I see they have a sign saying that the building is a historical landmark and no changes can be made to the exterior of the building.... It's not a building. It's a box. Why they do not use the former garage space of this renovated service station to serve & house their ice cream is beyond me. The 1st time we tried to go here and saw the line, we just kept on driving. I assume this happens a lot because this part of Green St is dead at night. So if you're in the area at this time, After's must've been the reason. Standing there, you see people driving by and looking with dismay at the line. We waited more than 35 mins for a scoop each. Way too long IMO. I probably would not go back again if the line was similar in length. It just isnt worth it to me. The ice cream was just ok to me. I got the milk & cereal ice cream (1 scoop; in a cup) topped with After's flakes. That was $4. I've never had Momofuku & their Milk Bar's cereal milk ice cream so that's the flavor I was hoping to find. I imagined that perfect taste that you get at the bottom of the cereal bowl when the milk has been sweetened from the cereal. Sadly, the After's version didnt live up to my expectations. It was just ok. It was better at the bottom of the cup when the ice cream was a little melted. But eating it as it was served didnt blow me away. I sampled the strawberry crunch topped with cap'n crunch and it was very good. If I were to go back that might be the flavor I'd get. Service was friendly albeit, painstakingly slow... ONE window. 1 window... You've gotta be kidding me. I tipped the workers a $1 cause I felt bad for them. The one window doubles as a door so when they have to bring in a fresh bucket of ice cream, service is interrupted at the window for the door to be opened and to let that employee in. Afters, you can glaze my Milky Buns, Anytime! I had been dying to try Afters since one had opened up in Pasadena, and it definitely did not disappoint! I know many Asian countries have a similar street food to the "Milky Bun", so I wasn't too surprised when I discovered that the idea had traveled to the west (and thankfully so!) I ordered the glazed Milky Bun with Churro Ice Cream and Cap'n Crunch topping, but they also have other options for pickier eaters. I have a friend who only eats Sherbet, and he was happy with the Mango ice cream. Be warned, it's such a filling dessert, and packed with calories. Thankfully, this was a much needed treat after hike at Eaton Canyon. The parking can be a bit of a problem since they have limited spaces, but you won't have problem finding street parking. I have enjoyed their milk buns a couple of times now and no complaints. Both visits, we got lucky because there is no line and wait. First visit, I opted for the cookie butter with cinnamon crunch on a non glazed bun and a scoop of Vietnamese coffee. Second visit, Cookie Monster with cinnamon crunch on a non glazed bun and a scoop of triple c. The flavors might be limited but it definitely packs a punch. I had a taste of jasmine tea and I might just get that for the next visit. The bun was warm and delicious and is a perfect complement for their ice cream. Service was friendly and accommodating. They offer suggestions if you are slightly stumped and don't what to get. I think they are a tad overpriced at $6 each ice cream bun and $4 a scoop. Cute cute cute. The location is great more to park around. Close by to the college of PCC. This time on 3/25/2016 in the afternoon ok morning. There was NO line. Yup NO line and I love it. I wanted the kids and hubby to taste it. So I got them the Cookie Monster and strawberry cookie crunch. I still like it with Afters cereal. But next time I won't get it in a waffle because you don't get much of the Afters cereal on it. Better to get it in a cup or the milky bun. A little disappointed in my AFTERS experience in Pasadena. Probably not worth it if you don't get the milky bun to be honest. I think the one in Huntington Beach is better. PARKING: they have a lot and there's street parking AMBIENCE: super cute. They renovated one of those old school gas stations and serve in the little servicing window SERVICE: because it's an old gas station you can't see all the ice cream and toppings which is a bit of a bummer. Afters is the after party of any meal. Forget that, it can also be your meal but I don't suggest that. Have a balanced meal before getting ice cream. So this place is already well known so of course the line is crazy. Happy they opened one in Pasadena so I don't have to Rowland the OC. I give you this one... I ordered a milky bun with jasmine milk tea on an unglazed bun and afters flakes. The jasmine milk tea was pretty legit. Tasted almost like the actual drink. I liked the donut even though it felt more like a thin crust bread than a donut because it felt kinda bready but that worked because it could stand up to the ice cream and provide a solid vessel. The afters flakes added some texture but I'm still not sure exactly it is. Also got the Cookie Monster in a waffle cone. Pretty legit cookies and cream because the ice cream was very creamy and the chunks of cookies were delightful. Solid cookie flavor. The extra food coloring was a bit much but I guess they need to do that to make the name make sense. I also had a tasting of the Vietnamese coffee which I thought was pretty bomb too. Very strong coffee and condensed milk flavor. Try to find parking along Green or Chester. If you see a pretty even shaped U line, it should be a 20 minute wait. Great service and super friendly. I love this place! There's finally an Afters near me, and after countless of recommendations from friends, I obviously had to go check it out. I went in sixty degree weather, but that didn't stop me from finishing the huge scoop of ice cream! This place is a pretty small stand, situated on the corner block. Not particularly in a boisterous street of Pasadena, which is good, cause I got to eat my treat in peace. There are a few tables and chairs outside. There's also a parking lot, or you can park on the surrounding streets. I got the Jasmine Milk Tea ice cream with mochi in a warm glazed bun. Delish to the max. I recommend that. I'm so going back. I love Afters, the concept is super cool and the product is amazing. They essentially have a donut that they stuff with ice cream of your choice, stuff it with toppings and they make the donut warm. It's wonderful. You can stuff up to 2 flavors into one milky bun (aka donut), we did cookie monster (me), jasmine milk tea (him) and got afters flakes. Afters flakes btw is pretty much like corn flakes but crunchier. The juxtaposition of cold, creamy ice cream with pillowy, warm donut, and crunch of the flakes was sooooooooooooo good. I also LOVE cookie monster as an ice cream flavor, it was obvs sweet and was blue (unsure what flavor blue may be) but it had chunks of oreo cookie. Overall would highly recommend, when I went there was minimal wait on Sunday evening, but the line grew huge while we were waiting. Love, love, love this place. Small selection in ice cream but they are all delicious! I've never actually tried the donut ice cream sandwich but it looks scrumptious. Employees are always nice. Gets a little busy in warmer weather but worth the wait. I usually find parking in the street with no problem. Some outdoor seating. Cute building. read more
