I've had my hair cut here a few times and I loved it. I'm not saying the stylist is horrible at cutting hair, in fact shes good at what she does, but I do think there was some miscommunication. I asked for a haircut with obvious layers. I opened my phone to show the stylist the references I found, but she only looked at one before saying she didn't need any more photos. I'm quite visually impaired, so I wasn't able to see how she was cutting it until I put my glasses back on, only to see that there were no visible layers in the back and that I had a side part. I was never asked if I wore my hair in a side part. The only reference I showed her had a middle part and visible layering. I understand that not every haircut will look exactly like a reference photo, but I was disappointed because the finished haircut was noticeably different from what I had asked for. read more

I felt the layers and overall shape didn't match what I requested, and I sought a second opinion the same day. Another stylist reshaped the haircut into something I was much happier with, but I was still upset about the amount of length I lost because keeping my hair long was very important to me. Had a loose wave perm done here. She went above and beyond to help me learn to care for permed hair. She is very kind and professional. She cut my daughter's hair while my perm was setting. I don't know why the negative reviews- they don't ask you to pay first. They are very responsive, and very professional. Would recommend them to everyone I know. read more

If I could give it a 0 star I would. The owner is horrible! I took my sister here and she was on the phone the ENTIRE time. She gave us a book to pick for didn't ask us what we wanted for a hair cut. We came about 15 min early and she was doing nothing and she still didn't work. Honestly! I'm paying her to get my sister's hair done. Our appointment was at 5:30 pm and she was still talking on the phone at 6 pm. The person next to her was helping her customer and she still butted in saying that her employee wasn't doing anything right. Blah blah blah. I'm not happy. Not to mention the floor is FUCKING messy with previous client's hair. She DROPPED HER COMB, instead of cleaning it or getting a new one, she literally picked it up and used it on my sister again! This is with the messy, messy, MESSY floor. Yeah, definitely never coming here again. Seriously...no interaction with us at all. Talking on the phone from 5:15 throughout the entire appointment and still not getting off the damn phone. While writing this I'm still watching her talk on the phone. She keeps leaving my sister on the chair and to talk on her phone again! It's true that this salon is a one-woman show (sometimes her daughter comes in to help with basic shampooing and hair drying) and therefore the salon isn't as clean as it could be (or as well staffed as other places) but I have all the more respect for the salon owner and her creative ways of servicing multiple clients at once because of this obvious constraint! I have been coming here for years because of the fair prices for, quite frankly, some complicated Korean hair treatments. I go here regularly to get my hair cut and digitally straightened with a wave perm at the ends, and am always happy with the results. She really understands Asian hair and is likely one of the few salons in Salt Lake City that can service Asian hair well. It's not the cleanest, or most upscale, but if your goal is to get a fair price for a well-done perm or haircut (even if you do have to blow dry your own hair at times), then I think Agape is worth trying out. She's dependable and keeps pace with the hair trends going on in Korea. read more

Review For Men Perspective: I have been looking for someone who can cut men's Asian hair. I didn't think this was the right place, especially with the salon name...and what is Agape? Dictionary: "(of the mouth) wide open, especially with surprise or wonder." Well, I was pleasantly surprised. For a basic hair cut (short) $16 that includes washing your hair before and after as well as blow drying. I can get a haircut during my lunch hour and go back to work without my neck itching or little hair clippings falling. This is where I now go each month. The owner doesn't speak a lot English but pleasant. So as long as you are there just to get a haircut I would recommend this place for men, especially for Asian hair. read more

I usually get my haircut somewhere else but I figured I would give this place a try, especially if it was cheaper than my normal place. I called a day or two before to make my appointment for 10am (when it opens). I got there a few minutes early and it didn't look like it was open yet. No worries, I just waited in my car. It got closer and closer to my appointment time, yet no one had arrived. I thought maybe she was there already, so I checked the door. Nope, definitely locked. I figured she was just running late, so I waited outside a little longer. After a few more minutes of waiting, I thought maybe there was some miscommunication so I figured I would give her a call. She picked up and I asked her if we were still on for our appointment. She seemed to have completely forgotten about it until I reminded her. She sounded frantic and said she would be there in a few minutes. After maybe 5-10 minutes, she finally got there and had to haul a hamper of clean towels and other random things into the salon. She also had to set up and get a few things ready once she was inside. All this time, I was just standing there since I didn't know which seat she wanted me to sit in. After a bit, she motioned me to go over to the hair washing station. She washed my hair and then had me sit to get my hair cut. During this time, she got a few phone calls and had to tend to those. Then someone else came in for his appointment (so it was probably around 10:30am by then), so she had me blow dry my own hair. I had read another review where someone mentioned this so it wasn't completely unexpected. Now, I don't mind having to blow dry my hair if she's busy. But she was busy because she was so late. I finished blow drying my hair but she was still cutting his hair (at least it was a guy haircut so it would be faster!), so I just sat there until she finished with him. Finally, after he paid and left, she began actually cutting my hair. I will say that I appreciated that it seemed like she took her time cutting my hair, instead of rushing through it. As I was paying, a Caucasian guy came in, and she just went around the corner to clean up, without acknowledging him. He seemed exasperated, and just left. I understand there's a bit of a communication barrier, but I think the least she could have done was say "one moment" or even make some sort of motion to let him know she would be back quickly. That makes me wonder how much business she loses out on. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this salon. There were just too many cons. The base price was more than my usual salon, and with tip, it was significantly more expensive (I still gave her a normal tip). I did get my hair washed, which was nice, and not included at my usual salon. However, I always come in with clean hair anyways so this wasn't much of a perk. She was unprofessional in that she was very late - shouldn't she be there when it opens regardless if there's an appointment? What if there was a walk-in? She didn't apologize for her tardiness at any point - I would have been more empathetic, especially since I know these slip-ups can happen to even the most punctual person. I did not have a great experience here and I felt like I wasted a lot of my time. Fortunately, I didn't have any appointments or plans after this, because I probably would have been late since I wouldn't have accounted for such a delay! She has a punch card, which is nice, but I would have to spend so much here before getting a free haircut - definitely not worth the hassle. I really hate to give her business such a bad rating, but I feel it is justified - there were just a lot of negatives I observed, and had just a single one of those happened, it would have been just a blip on the radar - but accumulated, they hint at a bigger problem. read more

I went this place from 2012-2016. Price is amazing and I honestly think she does SO MUCH than places I have been in VA/DC/MD/NY. I just get a haircut and/or permanent hair straight (magic) perm, and I never had any problem. When my sister visited me from the east coast, she agreed that owner did an amazing job. Unfortunately, i moved out of Utah, so I can't go to her salon anymore, but if I had money for the flight, I will always go to her when I need a haircut. read more

Where do I even start? If it weren't for the fact that I only really cut my hair twice a year and get really simple haircuts that I can stomach sitting through awful-upon-awful service, I would give only 1 star. From walking in on my appointment to not even a "hello", to the roughest hair washing by her assistant... she pulled hard on my hair several times during the wash. Then came the haircut: the hairdresser burped twice without closing her mouth - no problem; she and her friend/assistant were chatting non-stop while the friend was standing next to me - again no problem. Then the hairdresser straight up stopped cutting my hair and walked over to her desk to tap on a calculator and continue her conversation; after a few seconds I looked over - the friend saw but still nothing... conversation continued. Only literally when it felt like my haircut wasn't going to continue soon and I'd be late to my next appointment did I say, "Um I have another appointment after this" did she pivot back. Needless to say, I have never wanted a haircut to end so fast. At the end both ladies attacked me with 2 hair dryers - again painfully snagging on my hair. At one point they were going at it so hard one of their fingers caught my ear; at first it crossed my mind that could've pulled out an earring but only hours later at dinner did I discover a missing earring... this entire experience after tipping 40%. Since there is only one person who works there, when another customer came in she handed me the blow dryer and told me to do it myself while she went to help the other customer. Nice owner but a filthy, unprofessional, and disorganized hair cutting shop. There were people's hair everywhere; on the counters, the seats, hair products or tools,etc. I was the first customer that day and I could tell she had not cleaned that place for a couple of days.
