The crown jewel with lobster and Mac and cheese was my favorite, followed by the naughty Nola which had shrimp and crab jambalaya. The Wave rider with fried salmon was good but a little sweeter than I prefer, I'll sub it out with a different taco next time. Wife had the Birria egg rolls, also good. I visited Agave & Rye yesterday and realized I hadn't been in a few years. The menu is bigger now, but the tacos are still the yummy, quirky flavors that is their signature. I had the bang bang taco and the bff of Karen taco. The BFF of Karen was okay, but the bang bang was awesome! The spicy carrots really made this taco special. Their guacamole and chips are so good! The chips are perfectly salty and a touch oily, and the guacamole has a good amount of jalapeños. Our service was great though they were a bit short-handed. read more

Strolling around in Covington on a Monday, there's nothing open downtown..really..at 9:00 pm. We just came back from Smale park walking around for damn near 4 hours visiting my FIL. The man can walk. My thing is we meet up and go eat, but nah. I ain't never met someone that just wanted to walk. Anyway. Listen, I'm not gonna lie. I was 100% prepared to not like these tacos. So much, in fact, I didn't even take a picture. Being in Kentucky/Ohio, tacos are the last thing I want coming from Texas. The last thing I put in my mouth was a damn omelette from Frisch's 10 hours ago. I was hot and thirsty, so I was double teaming water and a pepsi like I was dying of thirst. We got queso and my family are queso snobs. They all enjoyed the queso. Bro, $9 for 1 taco? 3 street tacos for $16? If I wasn't dying of hunger and thirst and dripping of sweat cuz up here I was fine one minute from the breeze and then drench in sweat the next, I probably would've gone somewhere else. I'm glad we didn't though!! I was damn near full from my drinks and queso and I regretted not being able to eat all this taco. I got the filthy fajita which was carne asada, mushrooms, caramelized onions, cheese, and rice. It comes with both a corn and flour tortilla... yes, double teamed. and then you can add stuff between the tortillas. We all enjoyed our tacos, surprisingly, but not. We've talked about these tacos every damn day and now in search of our Agave in DFW.... or I guess we can always catch a flight. read more

Text arrive and we stepped up to get the table, they told us they had given it away. "Sorry. Someone just walked in. We'll put you back on the wait list." No further action. Love coming here for happy hour or one of the weekly specials! Whether we are sitting at the bar or sitting outside we have never been disappointed. The staff is personable and they get the food to you quickly so it's still warm! Honestly all the tacos are delicious and the queso is a must! I always go with the OG marg on the rocks as well. The strawberry slaw in the beekeeper is the perfect combination and the corn salad on the alderman is PHENOMENAL! There's plenty of street parking nearby as well! read more

Eclectic atmosphere and interesting menu, plenty of southern BBQ twists on the traditional taco. We started with the bourbon peach tea -- super refreshing and strong in all the right ways. The birria tacos were juicy and crispy and stuffed with cheese. You dip them in "dipping consommé" which is really like a greasy (satisfying) au jus. These tacos really surged this from a 3 to nearly 4 star review. The rest of your tacos arrive in a metal taco holder. Favorite was the Alderman with carne asada and plentiful street corn salad. The Bang Bang (cauliflower, corn fritter) is a vegetarian creation filled with huge chunks of food and a pile of shoestring carrot fries on top, which apart are great but all together overstuffed the taco and did not blend well. Both that and the Cheesy Amigo could have used more sauce. The Al pastor pork was not particularly juicy or tender. The general idea of stuffing a corn shell inside a flour shell is unique, I haven't seen that before, but overall adds up to a lot of starch in your belly when the main star was the filling all along. Overall, creative taco choices, some hits and some things that can improve! read more

Visiting from out of town and (honestly we were looking for pizza but the business was closed, lol). SO GRATEFUL THIS PLACE WAS AROUND THE CORNER!!! 'Contemporary' taqueria with good quality food and service served in large portions and with interesting concepts, some which connect stronger than others. --- Came here with a group of 3 for a Friday 5:30 PM Dinner. The restaurant was already quite busy, but we were able to get a spacious booth. Despite being busy the service came quick and we were able to get our orders when we were ready. While the margaritas looked intriguing, I decided to just stick with a Diet Coke today. We ordered the Trio of Dips - Queso, Guacamore, and Salsa Roja to go with our taco order later in the night. The price was a bit steeper than I expected, but I was very surprised to see how large each of the portions were. The guacamole and queso were fresh and of good quality (not always a given for a chain), and I enjoyed the Salsa Roja (which had an appropriate kick). For tacos, I was originally thinking to do the street tacos. But wanting to try some variety and something a bit more unique, I went with 2 Epic Tacos - not fully realizing what I was getting into. I should have realized from the dips that the portion would be large and absurd... I got The Happy Pappy and The Jedi - one relatively a bit more traditional and one very unique - with some beans and rice to share with the table. As alluded, the portion was ABSURD. The Jedi, an asian inspired creation, had chili chicken, crispy carrots, water chestnuts and even LO MEIN. Each of the ingredients were of good quality and individually tasty, but the portion was absurd and the combination felt forced and unnecessary. A fun experience I don't quite need to do again. I could only take a few bits of the other taco (pork-forward), but it was of good quality and enjoyable. Overall this was a fun experience with good food. I would come again to try some of the interesting cocktails, but would likely stick with some more of the normal, traditional tacos. read more

We've been here a couple times, not sure how I missed posting a review, but here we are. We love the fun and unique taco offerings!! No, this is not your typical taco joint. But you won't be disappointed if you are in the mood for something a bit different. I will say there is something for everyone, if you just want simple tacos or something out-there. The Epic tacos are extremely filling, especially if you add the love cushion. I have not tried the grilled street tacos yet, but those are on my list for the next visit :) read more

Meant to be a shareable, the portion has to be the size of a whole head of cauliflower. So good but I would ask if they could do half portions next time. Ate here when in town for a convention and it was great! Accommodating for a larger group, vegetarian options and not far away from the Convention center. Only a ten minute walk. I got the Bang Bang taco which was really good (recommend trying it if you are vegetarian). Very filling with just one and some chips and Queso before. After my first visit in 2018, I was apprehensive to go back. 2024 is bringing many blessings including a change of mind because Agave & Rye hooks you up! The flavor combinations are the star of the joint and I have not stopped thinking about their taco, The Bomb. Steak, shrimp, mac n cheese, topped with crispy onions. The name speaks for itself.
