We had dinner here on a Monday, and it was absolutely delicious! If you're coming with a group of six or more, I highly recommend ordering the Fiesta. At $28 per person, it's an incredible value and lets everyone try a little bit of everything. The feast starts with all of the dips and salsas, including salsa amarilla, salsa roja, salsa verde, guacamole, and queso, served with chips. We also shared the rice and beans, which came with flavorful verde rice, crema, cilantro, frijoles charros, and queso fresco. The chicken empanadas were fantastic, filled with guajillo adobo braised chicken and Alejandro cheese, then topped with a delicious cilantro buttermilk sauce. My favorite taco was the Baja Shrimp, made with crispy shrimp, chipotle lime crema, guacamole, red cabbage, pickled Fresno peppers, and chives. The biggest surprise of the meal was The Dolly salad. If I hadn't ordered the Fiesta, I probably never would have tried it, and it ended up being my favorite dish of the entire meal. The combination of romaine, kale, croutons, radish, cotija cheese, Tajín, and chipotle Caesar dressing was so good that I'd honestly come back just for the salad. The hot sauce they had on the table was very nice as well. We split their meal for 2 which is a very nice deal. It's $25 a person for 1 dip 2 appetizers and 6 tacos. The tacos I got were Al Pastor, which I thought had no flavor. The short rib taco which I loved. Then the fish taco which I liked I just wish it was more crispy. Bakersfield in the Short North is one of my favorite Cbus spots. If you like your margs strong and your salsa packed with flavor, this is the place. I love that the tacos aren't huge so I can mix and match and try a little bit of everything, and the margaritas are always generously poured. Ordered chips and guacamole, chips and Roja salsa, chicken taquitos, pollo rojo, fish taco, pollo verde, hongos, black bean and a small dolly salad, less croutons. $53.77 The guacamole and rojo salsas are good. The chips are light and crispy, but easily break. The tacos were all okay, two bits of nothing special. All a bit more flavorful with salsas and guacamole added to them. The taquitos are made with blue corn tortillas, white shredded chicken, not too bad. The black beans aren't bad. The small Dolly salad was food, nice vinaigrette. Fine choice for a quick bite. Their marketing materials boast "authentic Mexican street fare," and I don't know if that's true but it's far from traditional. The recipes seem more commercial to me, and the tacos are much more saucy than I'm used to. I much prefer the mom and pop family-owned joints where it all started with a really great home cook who had big dreams and a whole lot of hustle. We had the esquites and it was decent but honestly was just too dressed up and standardized. Street food is messy and unmeasured and often falling off the plate or out of your hands or whatever is holding it in place. This was well-plated so not quiiiiitte authentic, yeah? The flavor was accordingly just not as robust and complex as I'd like. But good enough. We had a sampling of tacos--I think the carnitas, al pastor, fish, and beef short rib (because, what? no carne asada or bistec???). They are small--as street tacos are--but again: too pretty and too saucy, and too much stuff. All I need on my tacos is cilantro and onion and a squeeze of lime, and maybe a couple of slices of red radish. Bakersfield is good enough if you're looking to hang out in the Short North and enjoy a Mexican-themed dining experience with friends, but if you're really looking for good, authentic street tacos there is a multitude of Mexican (and other Latine) food trucks and family-owned restaurants throughout the city that truly are the real deal. read more

Just enough to satisfy me and leave room for dessert. On a fullness scale, I'd say a 6.5/10. The bacon and queso fresco really stood out in terms of flavor. The amount of chicken added was pitiful, but the bacon made up for it. I was happy with the dish overall. Even after a football game in the busy Short North, the service was great. The bartender was very helpful with our drinks and explained the menu as he was very knowledgeable of the food. We took his advice and so glad we did. Only reason why I'm giving 4 stars it was because the prices were slightly higher than normal so be prepared to pay an extra buck or two. Wow-this was delicious. From start to finish, everything was great. Our server, Nathan, knew the menu very well and paced everything perfectly. Assisted in finding stuff for one of us with a serious allergy with ease. Our drinks, a seasonal cranberry margarita (picture included) was pretty good and looked beautiful, but this pineapple margarita thing we ordered was just phenomenal. I'd recommend both. Queso was not my favorite but it was still tasty. Guac was good and so were the two other sauces that came with it. Sorry I do not know the names of them, but that green one was amazing, tasted so fresh. There were so many of us, we pretty much got the entire taco menu. I had a paloma -- it was a little bit sweet but overall yummy. Here's where we lose the star -- the value for the tacos is not there. I was ready for this going into the restaurant based on other's reviews. These are by far the smallest tacos i've seen in the city (smaller than local cantina / condado for sure). The flavors were fine. I enjoyed my shrimp taco, and my husband loved his short rib one. All the tacos were $4 though -- didn't matter if it was vegetarian or a premium meat. For $4 each, they were literally like 3.5 inches in diameter. I'm a girl and they were only 3 bites each. That's more than $1 a bite. That's a bit much. My husband, not a lover of corn tortillas, decided against tacos. Went with the Milanesa Torta. He was not thrilled. Actually didn't like it much at all. It was a fried chicken sandwich with dressed arugula and a very very lemony Mayo. Could hardly taste the chicken with all of the lemon flavor. It came with a green sauce that was super limey so not great with the lemony sandwich. It was a good size. Other than that, meh. The pineapple margarita was good.
