Free chips and salsa and refillable sodas are a big plus for us! The Chips are tasty; the green salsa is more mild than the red, which had the perfect amount of spice. The ceviche is fish, not shrimp which is great for those who have shellfish allergies. Portions are generous. read more

Not even close to Mexican food! I would rather eat at Taco Bell. The vibe should have been a warning, but we were hungry. After ordering a carne asada burrito I expected to grab my burrito and eat it, but that didn't happen. The server put down a hot plate with rice, watery beans, and what looked to be a wet burrito with pasta sauce over it. Again, I was hungry and decided to eat it using my fork. It was not a burrito! Just an attempt at bad fajitas, wrapped in a tortilla and covered with tasteless red sauce. I was in town for the first time in several years (grew up nearby and moved post-college) and thought I'd try Agave again. I remember it being pretty lively with good margaritas so I figured it would be a nice spot to bring a friend. The waiter recommended the fajitas so we ordered a plate. When it came out, the first warning sign was that the plate was not sizzling. I took one look and couldn't help but chuckle. There were so many al dente carrots and broccoli that it looked like stir fry!! The flavor was lacking and I couldn't get over the fact that it was essentially a warmed up assortment of mixed veggies. We also ordered a steak burrito which was pretty standard. It was open on both ends, so it would need to be eaten with a fork and knife, but I didn't mind. Overall I can't believe they charged us $19 for lukewarm fajitas with undercooked carrots and broccoli. Luckily we had lots of laughs, but on the real I won't be coming back. read more

Well I won't be eating here again! Because I'm moving. And that makes me so sad. These guys are great! We have brought many people here and it is universally loved. Even a native to AZ was amazed. High praise indeed. I get the Camarones Ardiente everytime. Big shrimp in a creamy spinach sauce. I don't like rice and beans so they just give me extra cooked cabbage. They remember my order everytime. Others have enjoyed the mole and the enjococado is spectacular. I tried it at another restaurant after being introduced to it here. Not nearly as good. The back patio is so nice in good weather. When my husband got too sick to travel we went there instead. It was our little remembrance of Mexico. The staff is great. I like to drink a ton of ice tea and they were able to keep up with me. Even when they were busy as they often are. They remember faces and that can't be easy with so much clientele Even if you are a gringa like me, they will be patient and tell you about the dishes. GO! I think this place is related to Taqueria del Mar? It looks like it has the same interior decor with chairs, etc. Long story short, great happy hour and chips/salsa. Appetizers and entrees were both delicious. I recommend the Chile Relleno and house margarita. Nice gem in downtown mountain view Having walked past this place for years, I didn't know how nice it was inside until I finally visited it the other day. At first it looked completely empty, but it turns out the place actually has 2 halves! The other half was full of people, with large screen TVs broadcasting motorcycle races and sports games. Good news: they have happy hours from 11:30am to 2pm. Woooot? $3 for beer and $5 for some awesome gourmet meatballs, and $5 for a large plate of tacos? Heck ya! The meatballs were also amazing. There was so much tomato sauce in that pan I almost wanted to lick the bowl. A day after I visited, I realized I forget and left my credit card there--to my delight, they actually kept it, and found it when I asked them over the phone. Talk about awesome service! Definitely worth stopping by. It's one of the better restaurants in the area. read more

Wow the reviews are all over for this place. Went the first Sunday afternoon they were open and it was just me. But I guess Im a popular person because people started streaming in after :) This space has been many things over the years, a bar & grill, several Thai places it seems...now the family that owns La Fiesta, Fiesta Del Mar (1&2), Vive Sol and countless other Mexican sit down staples have taken over. However this is less basic and more high concept in execution, though they're producing some fairly authentically traditional recipes.from Guadalajara, Yucatan, Verazruz and Mexico City. Even a nod to the Caesar salad invented by Caesar Cardini in Baja. QUESO FUNDIDO - chorizo, bechamel, vegetables, handmade tortillas TOSTADAS DE MANITAS - corn tortilla, pigs feet, guajillo sauce ESCABECHE - pickled potatoes, red onions, cauliflower Everything was tasty. Had to make it quick as I was catching a train to SF so Im sad I didnt have the time or stomach to try many of the things that I'd wanted to like the Cochinita Pibil, the Tlatonile, and Huitzilopochtli enchilada (named after the war&sun god). Service is a little nervous and they may check on you a bit to often but I think they can ease off after being open for a month or so. The space has several TVs so you can also drink and watch sports, as I did get to catch up on some Olympic events. A tale of two servers ... Stopped here for a bite to eat. The server who set us up had a shaved head and acted like a bouncer instead of a server. He was irritated at serving us and was in a foul mood. Dropping off water, etc to use with a I don't give a eff" attitude, with no eye contact. Really made me feel uncomfortable. The second server, older gentleman was very nice and accommodating with good service. But I won't be back because of the uncomfortable experience\attitude of the server with a shaved head. read more

I had a fantastic experience here!! Came with a group of four on a Saturday night, and waited at the bar for about 10 minutes. They brought chips and salsa to the bar for us as soon as we sat down. The margaritas are delicious - get a pitcher or try the different flavors individually! The mango was my favorite. Sweet and very easy to drink. The chips flow like water here, but try not to fill up! The food is decently portioned and delicious. The nachos are giant and come with a hefty scoop of guac. The enjococado burrito came with the most amazing and unique sauce - I highly recommend trying it! A great place for drinks, dinner, and anything in between. Can't wait to come back! read more

The carne asada fajitas came out sizzling, but my steak burrito was stone cold. Probably sat for quite some time. Unfortunately, despite the appetizing smell of the fajitas plate, the beef was so dried out it tasted more like liver than skirt steak. Well, the burrito might have been cold and the carne asada might have been dried out, but at least everything (including the rice and beans) tasted super salty... The wait staff and atmosphere are pleasant enough and the margarita tasted good. We sat out back and although the heater wasn't working, they have a nice mix of tables for two as well as a couple of larger crowds in a nice setting. Agave is on Castro Street, so the nice atmosphere and tasty margarita come at a pretty steep price. Check your bill, however. I was charged for two margaritas. They reversed the charges and then charged me again for the updated bill. I haven't had a Mexican meal this bad in a long time. read more

A friend brought us to dinner here, said he was taking us to the best Mexican restaurant we'd ever been too, he was right! The margaritas were refreshing and zingy, the mole enchilada was heavenly, all of their salsas were exactly right with heat and flavor. Maybe the best part is the atmosphere, so welcoming it feels like you are walking into a place you have been to a hundred times before. This is a great Mexican restaurant with authentic almost home cook feel. Been there a few time and posted before. But we are making effort to post during COVID as the world has changed. Good outdoor seating which is all that is available at this time , fast service , clean and very attentive service. I tried the fried fish tacos and they were excellent. Only issue is I did order no beans and the order was not right , being in a hurry just went with it. So make sure if you ask for a substitute you get it. Have fun and for sure give this place a try. Came here to meet up with a group of friends and while I was waiting, I ate half the chips and salsa that they brought out as the salsas here are really good and it was hard to resist. When the rest of the group arrived, we ordered a pitcher of margaritas to share which was enough for our group of 4 to all get a slight buzz going on. For dinner, we weren't overly hungry as we had also ordered a bunch of chips and guac right before, so I split the carne asada salad with another person. I was sorely disappointed with the salad - the meat was slightly burnt and tough to chew and the rest of the salad was just bland. I also had stomach issues the next morning which made me wonder if it was from the food I had the night prior. In addition, the service here was really slow. I think our server was also the bartender for the night, so if someone had called out sick, then I totally sympathize with the situation but not once did our server apologize for delays or explain the situation, and we had to constantly ask other servers or busboys walking by if they could grab our server for us. Overall - with the plethora of other restaurants in this vicinity, I don't see myself coming back to Agave anytime soon. read more

I'm a huge fan of Mexican food but unfortunately this place didn't click for me. Located on Castro street, this place has good service and plenty of seating for small and large groups with a full sized bar. There are multiple parking lots across the street for anyone driving to this place. My only bone of contention was the food. Being a vegetarian, I rely heavily on Mexican places given the wide range of options present on the menu. Out here, I had the veggie burrito in a bowl and couldn't manage more than a few bites primarily due to the amount of broth present in the bowl. Furthermore, the chips and salsa provided seemed off color as well [greasy, not tasting fresh , etc .. etc.] I personally don't believe in rating businesses for their food just based on a single meal especially when their servers are kind and patient. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants on mountain view by a landslide. Trust me, do yourself a favor and avoid the other mexican restaurants in MV bc believe me, you'll be very disappointed. Agave is exceptional. You can telll they use high-quality ingredients when making their dishes. They have the best tasting salsa I've ever had. Was a top choice for Mexican food in downtown Mountain View, but post pandemic food quality has dropped. My last meal there, a chicken mole burrito, had chicken that seemed like it was dropped and put back in the burrito. Lots of potential, but they need to get themselves together again. read more

Modelo's & Tecate's were consumed in excess, so to coat our stomachs we got a variety of nachos and the enchiladas de mole. I tried to hurt myself on the mole sauce, it was awesome. If you remember Fiesta Del Mar off Shoreline Blvd on your way to any concert at Shoreline Amphitheater, then you'll definitely know Agave. It's the same menu but an additional side menu of traditional street Mexican food. Everything about this place is amazing. Love their staff, incredible food, margaritas, and their chips and salsa. You will not be disappointed with Enjococado dinner, Tortilla soup, enchiladas, and the nachos... I salivate as I write this out and think of it all. They really add attention to every detail with their food and nothing has changed from their menu when it was Fiesta Del Mar. read more
