    ENCHILADAS VERDES with chicken
    Karen C.

I was in Los Altos for the Art & Wine Festival with a friend and we decided to have lunch here instead of eating festival food. We had a nice table outside near the front door. They were quite busy but the service was quick and efficient, though it did take a bit of time to pay. I had the ENCHILADAS VERDES (GREEN): Two corn tortillas filled with chicken topped with green tomatillo sauce, sour cream & cheese. I really enjoyed this. Loved the green sauce. Not too spicy, good flavor. Always love refried beans with cheese on top. Their chips and salsa are good too. I had not been to this location before but have been the Mt. View one many times over the years. This location is just as good.

In San Diego, Mexican food is a savory staple, easy to come by, and I'm always one to try! I like to compare Socal to Norcal eats, and in the Bay, mi casa es Casa Lupe :) Thank you Casa Lupe for introducing me to the Chille Relleno as well as that delicious quiche- consistency egg with cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla, que bueno ! I also tried a tortilla wrap with shredded chicken which was hearty, and, like all Casa Lupe fare, tastes so authentic. Our meal was served with beans, salad and sauces and was largely portioned. As far as Socal vs. Norcal fiesta fare goes, there's no comparison! Truly, these Mexican experiences were completely distinct! I have not had made-with-love-family-style-authentic-mexican-eats in Socal yet, on which Casa Lupe truly delivers. Taste test to come :)

I have been coming here for thirty one years and it's hard to believe that the food is consistently getting better as time passes. It's actually hard to eat at other Mexican restaurants (and I have tried) because nothing compares to Casa Lupe Los Altos. Authentic, fresh, high quality ingredients like incredibly lean pork and pico de gallo that is heavenly. The chile relleno is to die for and the chicken burrito with the suiza sauce are both on another level. Abondinga and chicken tortilla soups are both superb. My favorite dish, when I need a special treat/meal is the garlic shrimp coupled with a Cadillac margarita. The worst part about dining here is that the meal ends and while you're finishing, you try to determine when you can return. Sincerely as good as it gets.

I wasn't impressed. It wasn't bad, but it was too much for one portion, and too greasy for my liking.

It was so tender and flavorful that it changed my entire opinion of asada. It's really that good! Their chips were crispy and not stale and I just love their self serve salsas. It's usually a hit or miss at Mexican Restaurants, but it's great here! Unfortunately, it seemed like the employee did not want to be there and I felt a bit uncomfortable but the food well makes up for it.

The restaurant is well decorated, feels lively, and is very dark. Maybe a bit too dark - we had to use our flashlight on our phone just to read the menu. We ordered a few items: - Guacamole 3.5/5 , tasted fresh but needs salt. - Ceviche 3/5 , A bit on the sweeter side than we would like - Verde Carne Asada Burrito meal: 4/5, pretty solid actually just wish the portion was a bit bigger for $24 - Steak Fajitas.... 1/5. My mother usually orders fajitas when we go out to eat at mexican restaurant, but we did not see it on the menu, so we asked the server if they had it and he said yes! Now we know why it's probably not on the menu... The meat was SUPER oily, I mean like drenched in oil, if you put a flashlight on the dish, you will quite literally see a puddle of oil at the bottom of the bowl. Second, the meat is very very tough and dry, similar to some meat you would reheat in the microwave after leaving it in the fridge for a few days. This dish is literally unacceptable and the worst part is the fact it costs $29. DO NOT ORDER THIS. Since, this was a dinner for an early mother's day. We did not want to cause any complaint or trouble to the restaurant as it was super packed. We just won't be coming back here anymore. The server himself was friendly, but man did the service suck. We had to flag down someone every time to bring water, chips, and the check. There was no staff check in ever. In fact, they actually lost my credit card and we were waiting around 10- 15 minutes to just get our check back. Everything took forever and the service was super slow. It was a lot of sitting and waiting for each thing. Losing my credit card and having us wait 10-15 minutes to get it back is unacceptable for a professional restaurant that is not on the lower end of things either.

We ordered simple breakfast items--a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and toast, and a two-egg breakfast with hash browns and toast. When our meals arrived, the food was lukewarm to cold, and the toast had been replaced with bagels. The eggs were dry and overcooked, and the hash browns were soft and cold. Ironically, the best thing on the plate was the buttered bagel, which was at least fresh and soft. We also requested extra napkins, but they never arrived. For the price we paid, we expected a much better experience. Between the lackluster service and mediocre food, this was not a meal worth repeating. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.
