I walk by this restaurant all the time because it is next to my bank. My boyfriend tried it and loved their enchiladas. So he took me here to try for dinner. I ordered the Baja fish tacos. It's over $20 for 2 tacos. Frankly I've had much better Baja fish tacos at inexpensive taqueria. This one was way too greasy with thick batter. I'm giving this 3 stars only because my fiancé likes the enchiladas. For me, you're better of with a taqueria in terms of price and quality. I pulled out all the batter and ate only the small amount of fish. My plate looked practically untouched and yet the waitress didn't even ask me for feedback. I was in Los Altos for the Art & Wine Festival with a friend and we decided to have lunch here instead of eating festival food. We had a nice table outside near the front door. They were quite busy but the service was quick and efficient, though it did take a bit of time to pay. I had the ENCHILADAS VERDES (GREEN): Two corn tortillas filled with chicken topped with green tomatillo sauce, sour cream & cheese. I really enjoyed this. Loved the green sauce. Not too spicy, good flavor. Always love refried beans with cheese on top. Their chips and salsa are good too. I had not been to this location before but have been the Mt. I like to compare Socal to Norcal eats, and in the Bay, mi casa es Casa Lupe :) Thank you Casa Lupe for introducing me to the Chille Relleno as well as that delicious quiche- consistency egg with cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla, que bueno ! I also tried a tortilla wrap with shredded chicken which was hearty, and, like all Casa Lupe fare, tastes so authentic. Our meal was served with beans, salad and sauces and was largely portioned. As far as Socal vs. Norcal fiesta fare goes, there's no comparison! Truly, these Mexican experiences were completely distinct! The service was not that good, took 15 minutes to even get served half the waters we needed and then the waiter continued to clean up tables, mind you the restaurant was basically empty, instead of getting the remaining water. I asked for the burrito to include lettuce inside of it but it came out without the extra lettuce. My aunt and uncle who came with me ordered enchiladas. Also thought they were decent. For the price though, a bit lower quality than we would have expected and have seen at other restaurants in the area with similar pricing structure. The salsa was nice and a little medium spicy which was a nice touch, but the chips weren't anything special. Service was good. Music in the background wasn't too loud. Lots of seating and kept very warm with heaters. Don't think I'd come back simply because it's about $22/person for the meal and I wasn't blown out of my mind, but overall a good experience for my first time. read more

**BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE** We came here for a Saturday brunch, and wanted outdoor seating. The lady who was seating us told us to get a table in the back under an umbrella, and said she would add another table to ours to make it fit for six people. We soon noticed that it was sunny outside, so we tried to move the table so that the other table would receive shade. The lady noticed this, and responded rather rudely. Maybe she was having a bad day, but that was no excuse for such unpleasant customer service. After that, we decided to leave, and she didn't stop us. I have been coming here for thirty one years and it's hard to believe that the food is consistently getting better as time passes. It's actually hard to eat at other Mexican restaurants (and I have tried) because nothing compares to Casa Lupe Los Altos. Authentic, fresh, high quality ingredients like incredibly lean pork and pico de gallo that is heavenly. The chile relleno is to die for and the chicken burrito with the suiza sauce are both on another level. Abondinga and chicken tortilla soups are both superb. My favorite dish, when I need a special treat/meal is the garlic shrimp coupled with a Cadillac margarita. The worst part about dining here is that the meal ends and while you're finishing, you try to determine when you can return. Sincerely as good as it gets. read more

I brought my family to this establishment for dinner. We started off the evening with margaritas, steak nachos and chicken nachos. Let me tell you that this restaurant is already worth it for just those! Amazing!!! The portions were gracious and the drinks were delicious! For a family of 7, there was barely any room left for our main course. Our dishes ranged from burritos, to enchiladas, to Chile rellenos and taquitos. The presentation and flavor of all the dishes were superb! Portions were very generous. The rice and beans were perfect! When we moved onto dessert, we HAD to make room for the flan and the churros with ice cream! Come on!!! Why would you pass these up? The flan was amazing!!! It had its own unique flavor! After years of coming here, I'd say we had our last visit yesterday. You can forgive less then stellar food because it's always been a comfortable local place. It's no longer forgivable. We came in and sat at our usual table where we can watch people while we have a leisurely lunch. We had chili Colorado and chili verde. Both plates were dry to the point of inedible. We asked twice for more salsa and it was begrudgingly plopped down. These plates needed anything far moisture. Plus, they are so hot, we both got burned. I ordered a Coke and after it was served, our server announced its Pepsi and walked off. Okay, maybe she didn't think it was a big deal, but I love Coke! I would rather have an ice cold Coke then almost any drink. Actually, I do prefer it more then any drink. That said, like most Coke lovers, I hate hate hate Pepsi. I didn't appreciate that at all. Just tell me when I'm ordering so I can decide what other drink I'd enjoy. Since when is a burrito lunch for two, $50.00? It's rediculous. Mmm... Mexican Food Casa Lupe delivers the best Mexican Food in Los Altos. Let's just say, I drive out of my way to come here. I discovered this restaurant in early 2016 and fell in love. They have great chips and salsa. They have beers and sangria. But what they really have is the best entree's. I typically order the Tres de Colores. "Spelled something like this" It is a solid portion of food, and can feed a hungry bear like myself. Parking is a breeze right on Main Street in front of this boutique sized restaurant. They also have a cute little patio for those summer months. I mean cute, limited table seating. Come support this established family business. Enjoy. read more

We loved this place for many years and were good customers. Not anymore. My mom got food poisoning here the last time, presumably from the sour cream. Beyond that, the newly-raised prices are absurd. $19 for a chicken quesadilla with a side of rice and beans? You have to be kidding! I had the same thing (a chicken quesadilla with rice and beans), but was unaffected. I did NOT eat the sour cream, however, so there is a high likelihood that is what did it to her. Seems to me like they aren't taking as much care as they used to, hence the presumably-bad sour cream. Maybe this is an indiciation that not as many people are coming anymore because they, too, are outraged by the high prices, and Casa Lupe is simply too cheap to replace food that has gotten old. The main waitress (owner's daughter), always runs late and cooks up the same excuse each and every time - "bad traffic." Maybe after a while she'd finally learn she needs to allocate more time? I chalk this up to laziness. Even though they're supposed to open at 5:00, you usually won't be let for about 10 minutes after, and service can then be sluggish at best. Will not be returning any time in the foreseeable future (or possibly ever). Too bad! read more

I happened to be in Los Altos (aka Land of the Monied) and my gf asked if there was a good place to eat nearby. We were told there was a hole in the wall Mexican place nearby and I interpreted that as an inexpensive place to eat. Damn was I wrong. Walked in and the carne asada burrito was $14 an change. The cheapest burrito was $12 or so. Wow. Major sticker shock for me. As you can see I still gave it 4 stars because the food was good and the burrito came with rice and beans and some coleslaw (which I found random since it is a Mexican restaurant but was nonetheless good). The bulk of this review is for people to know that you will be hard pressed to find something less than $10 here. That's what I get for eating in Los Altos. Clearly this place has been doing well for quite some time so they pegged their demographic well but I'm too poor to eat here regularly. read more

I've been coming to Casa Lupe longer then I'd like to admit. Okay, so it's probably longer then half of my friends on Yelp have been alive. That's how long this place has been around which should tell you something. To find Casa Lupe is not the easiest thing if you don't know where it is. I mean, walk down Main Street Los Altos and don't blink. The funny thing is that they don't need to be in your face because those in the know know where it's at. The inside is quaint, with two small levels of tables, but the outside patio is my favorite place to sit. It's not some little private enclosed patio area. Oh no! It's right on the sidewalk in prime people watching view. There's even a constant flow of dogs that wander up for a scratch and a scrap. A perfect place to perch for lunch. As with any Mexican restaurant, first impressions come from the chips and salsa. The chips are light and not at all greasy - not filling you up before the main meal even if you eat the whole bowl (which I always do). The salsa has a nice consistency, with chunks of veggies and good heat. The menu is in line with other Mexican restaurants - tacos, burritos, chili rellenos (which are delicious here) - nothing particularly special, yet everything well made. I like to make up different combinations and they always accommodate me. This time it was the Fiesta Tostada with Chili Colorado instead of ground beef. The waitress seemed genuinely thrilled to make this and even put it in a huge bowl so that when all the juices from the Colorado seeped through the tostada shell I was still covered. Nice touch! Kind of a soup and salad combo in one bowl! It was sooooo good! The beef was very tender and had very nice spice to it. The salad stayed crunchy and the Colorado sauce made the perfect salad dressing. Mmmm! Casa Lupe has been around a long time because it's a no-frills Mexican restaurant with good service, good food and a nice little location. If you're ever in the neighborhood, stop by for a Margarita and some food. You won't be disappointed. read more

First of all, I'm not much of a seafood person, even for simple fish tacos I typically say eww and gross and no way. However, even though I wasn't feeling like fish or shrimp, I went for it and I am glad I did because I must say, the fish taco plate was DEEEELICIOUS! We also had the chicken fajitas and those were very nice and flavorful. Excellent chips and salsa and guacamole. yummm. Nice presentation on both plates. Excellent staff.
