I've come on 3 occasions before this review. All experiences were similar different times of the year. 1. You must order your entrée. It's not a buffet. You do go get your own appetizers and desserts which is fine. 2. Our server never told us what our drink options where especially on mothers day. We got water because normally there is an additional fee for soda. The drinks were included in the mothers day pricing which we found out later when.there was a $3 fee for beverage (which was just tap water with lemon). 3. The kicker.. gratuity was added automatically at 18%. Rgis never happens at the other Desert Diamond Grill. We had to ask to refill our water and our take put boxes. 4. Our table was not cleared until we were leaving. We had a table of 5 people. So plates add up. Food was just okay but for $90 I would've gone to a fine dining restaurant. Disappointed. read more

The interior is boring Dark, tables loose from the walls their fastened too, the original Agave , which was built beautifully sits empty with training tables for new employees. Came for our anniversary dinner before catching a show at the casino. I would say the restaurant was pretty busy but I still feel like our server could have paid just a teeny bit more attention to us. We were seated within a reasonable amount of time from our 6:30pm reservation - only had to wait 15 minutes which I can live with. Were immediately given water and bread and butter. We each ordered a drink from the menu but unfortunately the restaurant was out of the mango that was essential to whatever rum drink my husband ordered so he went with a different rum drink - a pina colada which he said was horribly sweet but whatever....I guess it's to be expected of a pina colada. We then placed an order for coconut shrimp and clam chowder as appetizers and told our server we would go ahead and order our entrees since we knew it was getting busy. But obviously we wanted our appetizers first. After a considerable wait, the clam chowder appeared along with our salads. Within a few moments our entrees were delivered - definitely not enough time to finish the clam chowder, salads and NON EXISTENT coconut shrimp. And that was the last time our server visited our table except when we managed to get her attention to get the bill and have her remove the coconut shrimp since we never got it. We were never asked about another round of drinks, never asked if our dinners were acceptable, never offered dessert. I realize it was a busy night before a concert but I fully expected better service. The food was good but I would only come back during off-peak times for a full dining experience. read more

My guy made reservations for my birthday in late June and all the wait staff greeted me with happy birthday. I again ordered the char salmon and wasn't disappointed. 3rd time having the salmon, and I don't know how they do this, but the salmon is always terrific, the veggies are fresh, local, tasty. My desert was a sweet little B-day cake with a happy birthday sign in chocolate. Excellent food every time we go. The breakfast buffet , French toast was best ever! Pricey, but worth it. I will return.

Christmas Eve dinner featured a special limited menu which included 2 prime rib entrees for $35. I had salmon with mushrooms and a beet salad. Loved the beet salad, and the salmon entree was very good too. Our group of 4 shared 2 appetizers- a whipped shortribs app & deviled eggs. We all agreed the shortribs app was bizarre, but I liked it. The eggs were pretty good, and everyone enjoyed their entrees as well. Prices are pretty fair for a semi-upscale restaurant. The main seating area is too bright and doesn't seem fitting for this atmosphere. We sat near the window, which is a nicer area. Another visit here was for happy hour, which has some great menu options such as $5 goat cheese flatbread/pizza and $3 drinks! The flatbread/pizza was good except for the ton of garlic on it. Yikes! The avocado fries were very lackluster as the avocado wasn't ripe. We also got a bread basket which included zucchini bread and that was yummy. My scallops entree was just OK, it lacked much flavor and was a little gritty. The corn risotto or similar it came with was OK but not a great choice as a complement to scallops. For around $20, it was a good price, but I'd pay more for a delicious scallops entree any day! The decor is so bizarre. It looks like a cafeteria to me except for the entryway, which has a fine dining appeal to it. I don't get why this wasn't carried into the dining area. The "alcove" area with a nice view of the casino's expansive outdoor area is the best table in the joint. There is outdoor seating as well. read more

The St. Louis barbecue ribs were not edible. They didn't look like ribs, but more like a slab of meat. Not good at all. The server was excellent, very pleasant and very attentive. I ordered the port chop which was very good. You weren't able to cut the chop with the knives that they gave you, so I ended up picking it up with my fingers. The baked potato wasn't hot enough to melt the butter or the sour creme. The bruschetta appetizer was very good - and I think we should have stopped there. The restaurant was not busy at the time we were there. I now know why the casino gives promotional tickets for $5.00 off on your meal. I don't think the Agave could survive without these promotional tickets. We were so disappointed with the Agave. It use to be good prior to them moving to the inside of the casino. read more

Huge savings on meals, events, free play and one free hotel room every month for a year. Food is great, service it right and drink specials are on point. This is one of my favorite places. The food is always great, it is quiet and pleasant. I went for a birthday dinner last night and there were only 2 tables occupied when we arrived. We were seated in a nice table alone and by the window. Water and hot bread came quickly. Then the salad after 10 or so minutes. Now the wait. 30+ minutes for the entree. Food was lukewarm when it did arrive. Servers and bus persons standing around or visiting with another table of what was probably regulars. Never came back to check how food was, no bread refill request and no beverage refill. Meal and dessert finished, bus person finally comes to refill water. I ask for some, receive a tiny amount. She said she ran out and would come back. Never saw her again. Ultimately, the food was great, but the poor service overshadowed it. I would expect this sort of service from a Dennys but not here. My wife and went to the Agave Restaurant last Saturday to celebrate her birthday. We made a reservation using their on-line "Open-Table" site https://www.opentable.com/agave-restaurant-at-desert-diamond-casino-reservations-sahuarita Parking is free and plentiful, there is a valet too. The pathway to the Agave leads past a beautiful fountain and several native American exhibits featuring various artifacts and crafts. The restaurant is nicely decorated in a modern style. It's very large and can accommodate a large crowd that might visit for the entertainment at the casino. Our dining experience started with the tempura avocado fries, a very interesting and tasty appetizer that was accompanied by two dipping sauces, Salsa Verde and Chipotle Crema, $6. We came during happy hour, 4PM - 6PM, and the prices for appetizers and drinks were reduced to $3 for cocktails, wine and domestic beer, $5 for the fries. Their house wine was exceptional and so were the martinis. We decided to split our salad course, the Caesar Salad for $7 was made with Baby Gem Lettuce, Parmesan Cheese and Herbed Crostini. It was plenty big for the both of us. For our main course My wife had the Tiger Shrimp $23, it came with Corn Ragout, Lump Crab Risotto, Crispy Pork Belly, Poblano Crema. She said it was slightly spicy (to her jell-o is spicy) but, she ate every bite. I had the Steak Frites $17, Skirt Steak, Tempura Avocado Fries, Poblano Puree, Nopal-Corn Salsa. It was really good and was cooked perfectly. We also ordered a side of the Creamed Spinach $5, meh not so great, I was expecting a steak house version, this was just leaf spinach in cream with some cheese on top. My wife loves dessert! Because it was her birthday, they brought out the complementary birthday cake covered in chocolate and sporting a candle. The cake was delicious but, like I said she loves dessert! She ordered up the chocolate mousse, $7, delicious. The staff was friendly, courteous and attentive. I highly recommend the Agave and give it 4 out of 5 because of the spinach. BTW no tax! read more

This place was interesting. Their menu was very nice, with higher end 'fancy restaurant' style food, but when you walk in it looks like Denny's meets Ruth Chris. The ambiance really threw us off, as it is definitely not what I would consider a nice restaurant by the decor alone. HOWEVER, we were pleasantly surprised by VERY good food - prawn cocktail, dinner salads, crab stuffed prawn dinner, filet mignon and topped with a prickly pear cheesecake. The service was excellent, the staff was very attentive. Finally, for the level of food quality -- the prices are VERY reasonable. If you don't care about the cheap chair/table set up inside, try this place out for sure. read more

Very disappointed! Not going back ever. We were seated quickly only to be told our waitress would be by to get our order. She showed up 10 minutes later. It was a busy night, but we got rolls to hold us over. We then finally got a waitress who took order for appetizer after 20 minutes of waiting. We ordered our main course after words and waited for our waitress to come back. But we ordered another glass of wine and we got another order of rolls while we waited. After 45 minutes our food still had not come out. We kindly waited, while the manager went to see what the hold up was, but she didn't return to apologize or offer us anything so that we could stay. 1 waitress who wasn't our waitress apologized and we couldn't stand the wait any longer. 5 stars for their lunch specials. The specials are served Wednesday thru Sunday. PRICE... $10. Now I see some people complain about this and that and I say are they overly critical? Who knows? The Food Man, Me, is not a food snob and I realize it's Green Valley so when I get a great lunch with dessert I find it hard to complain. The prices are very reasonable, come on it's 10 bucks, and my service has always been fine. You want the best server ask for Tina she's been there 15 years and she'll give you FREE water. How about 5.5??? How about dinner for two at a first class restaurant for $20? Each night The Agave serves a special -- beautifully prepared and presented, with soup or salad and a shared desert (you share with your dining companion.) They have 8 meals which rotate through the month, so that if you can only go on Monday, for example, you won't get the same dinner every time. Selections include Teriyaki Steak (it was the tonight's special, and was superb!); Prime rib, crusted rockfish; gilled salmon; tempura chicken, rotisserie chicken and tri tip steak. I got to be honest I was absolutely disappointed on my last visit to Agave. I don't know if the waiter had a stick hidden up the old you know what or what the problem was, but the service was deplorable. I have certain expectations when I'm spending $30 on a meal and they definitely were not hit. I understand that they have a great summer special, but this was not happening on my last visit and I unfortunately paid the overpriced cost of my ribs. The portions were generous, but that's where it ended. The sauce was bland, the meat did not fall of the bone and the overall meal was to put it quite honestly, forgettable. I've been here now 3 times and each time has been worse than the last. I hope this is just my experiences and not a trend because there's not a lot more room to go down. read more

1st time to this restaurant. Hostess was pleasant. We got a booth. Comfortable. Clean. Nice. Our server was Angela. She started out solid! Took our drink order and then our appetizer and entree order in one fail swoop. Which to me is a red flag. It wasn't that busy. She brought our drinks. She brought our appetizers. That was the last time we saw her. No follow up. As I observed she had a table of 6 come in. I leaned over to my wife and told her we might as well be lepers. We'll never see her again. Somebody else brought our entrees and that was it. We had to choke down our food with no drinks. After I was able to get the food down we flagged a busser over to get the manager. The manager was of no use. Ran our card asked if we would like to come back on her. We declined because we'll never go back. Doesn't matter how good the food is. If you have incompetent wait staff and restaurant management, it takes the luster off of any meal. 1st time eating there and our last. Normally we'll tip 25 to 30% but tonight zero. read more

I have not dined at Agave since I've moved to Green Valley 5 years ago and thought to myself, it's about time ...plus it was my birthday. This will be a birthday dinner to remember.. We had reservations at 5:00 and were promptly seated and greeted by John , our waiter. He explained to us that it was happy hour and gave happy hour menus to us. The prices on the happy hour menu knocked my socks off, in a good way. We started with the avocado fries and crab stuffed chilies rellenos... both were fantastic.....my martini was so good for the low, low price of $5 it would have made James Bond smile. It was perfect. John our waiter was very attentive and checked on us often, he made sure everything was fine Good sense of humor too ! I finished my martini and decided to have some wine, I wasn't sure on the one I chose so John brought me a sample....the sample was half a glass ! I went with the choice I made. The Osso Bucco that I ordered with posole ragout was huge and fork tender, and the sauce it laid on was flavorful and rich. The food was piping hot....the other dish that was ordered was salmon and I had to try a piece...the salmon was slightly crispy on the outside and tender moist inside....next time salmon for me. I brought home my leftovers but not before John brought me a birthday dessert, very nice. The meal we had from appetizers , drinks, entrees and complimentary dessert would have broke the bank in Vegas or another upscale establishment, but not here...fantastic food, atmosphere, and waitstaff. I'm not going to wait for my next birthday to go back.....with these prices and the quality of food....my birthday will be more often. read more

Loved the bread. Had the Basil Chicken Salad which was wonderful. Beautiful presentation too. They took several 6 inch whole romaine lettuce leaves stacked on top of each other. yummy blue cheese and walnuts on top. also was a grilled chicken breast with cuts in it to make it look like a small bear paw pastry. The Agave salad is fabulous for lunch, and the dinner special of prime ribs for 2 for $25 is a great deal. I know many people who go just for that. Call to check when the special is on. Setting was average, nothing special. I had the halibut and my husband had the mole. Cocktails were sub standard. Prices are average. Call ahead for hours, a concert had just let out around 8 pm and people were looking for a place to have dinner and were turned away. read more

My wife and i took our 2 daughters and their guys here last night. I thought the setting was fine and we were greeted pleasantly. I had the fish and chips and i thought it was very good. One daughter had the chicken parmesan and she liked it very much. However the other 4 members of our party had steaks and no one said it was anything more than "ok" Everyone thought they were somewhat overcooked and dry. My real fault is with the service. It was slow but that was acceptable since we were all chatting. However the server never refilled our waters, did not ask if everything was alright, and "forgot" to ask those who ordered steaks which sauce they wanted. They had to first order sauce when the food arrived-annoying and it took awhile to get the sauce. The server was pleasant enough but certainly did not give anything more than mediocre service. The bill was incorrect and she did fix it quickly. On a positive note prices were reasonable and the desserts were very good. All in all an "ok" dinner but they can improve their service. Given that there isnt much down here restaurant wise it would be nice to see them improve. Will return someday and give them a second chance to impress. read more

Last night we had reservations to for dinner two hours before a show at Desert Diamond. There was a special menu to streamline orders for people going to the theater. We waited over an hour for our food, then someone came out, apologized for the wait, and told us dessert would be comped. Fifteen minutes later, the food starting arriving. Two of the entrees were not as ordered. Complimentary desserts looked appealing, but it was time for the show to start, so I can't tell you if they tasted as good as they appeared. We had to ask for the check twice, and the checks were incorrect. Straightening that mess out made us even later for our show. The situation was stressful. In future, we will find another place to have a leisurely meal and enjoy ourselves before an event. read more

Our family goes to Agave every Easter and in July (for the fireworks!). It is a very traditional sort of restaurant with excessively well cooked classics and attention to detail. The lamb is always perfectly done and the Chicken tortilla soup is the best in town. They serve the classic pasta dishes (e.g. shrimp fettuccine alfredo), but what makes it special is the freshly made in-house pasta and the quality ingredients. On holidays they often to a prix fixe sort of deal - and it usually turns out to be the best. Their deserts are always high quality - not to be missed assortment of amazing mudslides, cheesecakes, carrot cakes etc. The creme brulee has never let me down - always the perfect crunchy crispy sugary top and heavenly creaminess / vanilla intensity inside. The service is also very reliable. read more
