Poor service, good food. That's why the 2 stars. Friend and I met for lunch. We hadn't been to HiFalutin in awhile. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walking in, the place looked the same, a bit dark but inviting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The server seated us; didn't introduce himself. Brought us our water and the little, delicious muffins. We ordered our food. Friend likes to get a rare burger served over a small caesar salad. I ordered a house salad with blue cheese, and tortilla soup. Friend asked for more muffins; server didn't acknowledge the request but did bring more of them. Our food came. My salad had the blue cheese dressing already in/on the salad. It was very good. The tortilla soup was more (flavorful) broth than meat with lots of tortilla strips in it, and a few kernels of corn. Friend's burger and salad was exactly the way she wanted it. I had to ask for more water. Friend had to ask for more water as well and each time we were served with no comment from the server. Friend asked for more muffins. They were brought with no comment. She had to ask for a to-go container for the left over muffins twice. Friend and I hadn't seen each other in a long time so we were there awhile - 2 hours. The place was never full so it wasn't as if our table was needed. It got to the point where the server stopped coming by our table and, to my amazement, then stopped at the table and picked up our signed credit card statements and walked away without a word! I have NEVER had a server do that. Friend mentioned that it looked like he definitely wanted us GONE!!!! Had I known we would be treated this way, I wouldn't have left my 20%+ tip. I want 15% of my tip back! I'll go back but never again have this person as my sever. read more

Great food, great service, and free cornbread! What more could you ask for. We started with Potato Skins, Calamari, and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. The potato skins had a little too much cheese (I know I know) but honestly all were amazing. I had the chicken tortilla soup, it was PACKED with chicken and Amazing. My boyfriend had the ribeye that came with shrimp and some of the best herbed mash potatos I have ever had. His steak was cooked perfectly rare, which is so hard to get these days. Cowboy western vibes are always on point at Hifalutin. We love to take out of town guests here because of the decor! The blue corn muffins that they serve to every table are delicious and a unique touch! This most recent visit my husband had the 10oz prime rib with basil mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. He loved the meat and mashed potatoes but felt like the mixed veggies were hard and not cooked enough. I had the steak fajitas with flour tortillas. The fajita meat had spice to it but the lemons they served with it helped balance that out. It was a huge portion that tasted great as leftovers! read more

If we could give a 10+, we would! It's been several years since I've been here but we found ourselves in Tucson for a quick trip and came here for dinner. Was not disappointment, as I remembered! We were seated immediately and our server, Jessica, was quick to come over, welcome us, and offer drinks. I remembered the dishes here being big so we decided to split the New York Strip, which was like 12 or 14 ounces, so way big for two people. We asked for the baked potato and we started with a Cesar Salad...and yup, asked for extra dressing! The salad was great, with lots of dark green leafy romaine, shredded parm, and the biggest croutons ever! The croutons were covered some some great tasting spices and it really added to the salad. Their dressing is creamy, lightly garlic, and really really good! The meal also comes with blue corn muffins, which were warm and served with pats of whipped butter. These little muffins are so delicious and savory and they can get you into trouble by eating too many! I apologize for the pictures of eaten food but I wanted to show the perfection of the cook on the steak...we ordered medium and it was perfect. The dish also came with lightly cooked mixed veggies, again...cooked to perfect crispy doneness! And the mixture was great with broccoli, cauliflower, peas, and red peppers. We split the steak in half and we both ate half of that portion so we had half a steak left over. We were so full and didn't get dessert. Service was spot on, efficient, and we loved talking with Jessica when she stopped by. Gave a shout out to the cooks in the kitchen on the way out and we also got an opportunity to talk briefly with the owner (gave Jessica a big shout out to him). We've been here for lunch and dinner over last 20+ years and have always had good food and service. Today, for lunch she had her normal Aunt Chuck salad and it was well prepared and tasty as always. I saw the daily special of Birria Tacos and Zoe, our server, talked me into trying them. Perfect Cinco de Mayo lunch with crisp taco shell, shredded beef, onions, cheese, and a knockout Salsa Verde for medium heat. Some of the best tacos with Birria dipping gravy in Tucson for me. Because I use the term "Hifalutin" all the time & we drove by this place, I knew we needed to try before leaving. We got there right around dinner time during the week and was asked if we had reservations (which we did not because we didn't even know about this place til we happened to drive by). Luckily they had room for the 3 (2 adults & 1 teenager) of us. The atmosphere was pretty cool and the service was attentive. Menu (including food & drink) items were plentiful & priced well. Lemon drop was tasty. While waiting, we got some blueberry cornbread muffins - which were delicious. The steak stuffed quesadillas & salsa/sour cream were shareable & very good. The meatloaf sandwich could also be shared - had great flavor. Too stuffed for dessert but had to checkout the menu nonetheless. Let me get to the principal point! Recommend: Boy oh BOY do I!! Visited this restaurant twice in as little as a month, and traveled almost 45 minutes to get here. This restaurant is pricey, but I will note, you absolutely get EVERY dollar's worth as the food in ravishingly delectable, full plates no matter what you order and cooked to absolute perfection. Their customer service is beyond reproach, the owner is always walking about and the decorations throughout including the restrooms are impeccably unique to the southwest theme and charming particular points of interest like the saddle in the middle of the room. Tried this place for the first time after driving past it tons of times. The Western theme and decor was cute. Service was great. The food wasn't good but wasn't terrible either. For the price I expected better. We had the flank steak salad and cowboy ribeye. The steak on the salad only comes well done and was too salty, it tasted like shaved steak from the meat department at the grocery store. The crispy onions were stale and hard to chew. The cowboy ribeye is thin cut and was chewy. The mashed potatoes were delicious and so were the mini blue corn muffins. Sides for the steak are a potato, mashed or baked, and steamed veggies. Honestly, I can make a better steak at home. Won't return. read more

We came as a party of 8 and felt rushed the whole time. Unfortunately, our reservation time had to change due to a bad freeway situation and we called way in advance to let them know. No problem, we were told. But after we got there, the waiter very quickly gave us the specials, slammed through the service, handed us the bills, etc. Timely service is always good, but every one of us felt like the message was eat your food and get out. The General's Favorite Chicken I'd ordered was swimming in oil. I had ordered this before and had enjoyed it very much. But not this time. The portion was huge, but I would not order this again. I had to eat around the oil (not a light pesto sauce, as described) and had to literally drain it off the leftovers I took home. I'd also had the ribs before, but the sample I tried off of a co-diner's plate was not as good as it had been, and I was sorry I'd recommended them. I'm not sure what happened that night, and we have had great experiences in the past several times over the years. An interesting change of pace. The food was good. The starter complementary rolls were incredible. My eating companion and I enjoyed the beef stroganoff and rustler steak. The steak came with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The stroganoff was served on fetuchini noodles with 2 slices of bread. The portions were huge and the prices matched. Unfortunately, the stroganoff was $25ish and the portion was so large you really really really had to like stroganoff. I do like stroganoff but not enough to eat like multiple helpings of it. The decorations are odd, but it speaks to the unique appeal of this place. It was fun to visit a mom and pop local scene rather than Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn. I actually remember this word from my grandparents "Hifalutin" I always associated with a kind of rural and working class description of something high class or something with high class pretentious and sometimes ok as a descriptor and sometimes derogatory. In this restaurant's case, I think it's all positive.I've been many times and usually sit at the bar and enjoy the bar happy hour foods. They have a great Quesadilla with beef or chicken, potato skins,sometimes tacos, crispy cheese and sometimes bacon wrapped shrimp, They have nice house wines, some local beers on tap, excellent bourbon selection and my favorite Irish whiskey, my favorite salad is their cranberry apple, they have great sandwiches too, l love their turkey club, Of their pastas I like the tomato basil with grilled shrimp, I've had some companions that have enjoyed the main menu of steaks and meat loaf in pot roast.But I have not. Ok. It takes a real pro server to take care of 10 women, celebrating a big birthday, taking over the patio, and drinking. Bianca did not miss a beat. The drink orders went to the right person, the food orders were perfect, the water was never empty, and she kept her cool. She took pictures and they even came out great. The food was fabulous and we were all happy. We took over the back patio which had the ambiancewe were looking for. It gave us privacy and saved the other patrons from witnessing and having to talk over our shenanigans. The wind was blocked until we were cleaning up. Cute place with very good food. Their appetizer special was a calamari, which was excellent. We then had the cedar plank salmon and prime rib. Prime rib cooked just a bit over medium as ordered. Portion sizes were very generous and everything was really good. We took 1/2 of each entree home and enjoyed it again the next day! Service was great. Very friendly and attentive. Drinks were really good! Love the open kitchen. So glad we finally got to try this - we will definitely be back. It was not as busy as it usually seems, so glad we picked a good night! read more

They don't have steak on the kids menu so my friend ordered one for her daughter who loves steak. She did not like it at all. The French fries with the kids meal was the best thing we had. The fajitas tasted (and I hate to say) a cross between too much Goya and high school lunchroom fajitas. I appreciate you pointing out my inaccuracy regarding my lack of addition skills and I apologize for my tardy response. Please see the below message. Hi Roxanne D. - luckily we always keep the receipts! Believe it or not, there actually is an explanation, and we would've been happy to provide it had you taken the time to contact us before resorting to this false review. You see, the Rib Eye and Half Rack dinner with the sodas you mentioned above actually totaled to $87.48, not $77.92 -- you then added a $12.52 tip which brings your total to... $100! Even though you thought you recalled the exact numbers down to the penny without a receipt, your math was simply wrong on both the receipt and your recollection. The waiter merely entered the tip you provided on the receipt, and the computer auto populated the total based on that. We're happy to refund you $10 if you intended to leave $2.52 for an $88 tab, although your own review says you left a 15.5% tip... either way you'll need to actually contact us for that. We don't bite! Best, HiFalutin I will be the first person to own up to my mistakes. In regards to the tip and the added $10. That was a mistake on my part. I did not math correctly and I sincerely apologize to Bradley for any implications of suspect behavior. I will not however retract the poor service review previously written. We just had dinner at HiFalutin. I had the burger and very tasty. My wife had the 1/2 Rack of Ribs and she absolutely loved them. Now the worst part was the waitstaff went over to a couple in the corner and started petting a dog over in the corner and never went to the restroom to was their hands and just went on to serving the customers. If the health department had seen this they would have definitely taken action. I'm not sure if the dog was a service dog as it had nothing to show it was. You need to have a meeting with your team and take care of this. read more
