I DO NOT recommend this place. Every time I've visited this place I am left hungry and disappointed. I'm very optimistic so I always try to give restaurants like these many chances by trying a different plate each time. However, after so many opportunities it's time to review it. This place is definitely a 0/10!!! I cannot express how this last experience was HORRIBLE. I asked for a milanesa torta and this is what I got. Almost beef jerky at this point. This place is definitely not what San Antonio food represents please don't waste your time coming here.

The Michelada was the best part. It was perfectly made with lots of chamoy and tanjin on the rim.

The food came out really fast almost too fast. All preheated so a fast serve. The tortillas are not homemade. The nopales were good with great flavor. The rice is made with carrots and peas tasted good. The give a generous amount of guacamole on the plate with fresh lettuce and tomato. The chips were stale and the shell on the puffy taco was soggy not crispy. The place is large and can accommodate large groups. They have a DJ on Saturday nights.

Would've taken a pic of the food but it didn't last long lol ;)

Food is consistent and authentic, delicious and generous portions. Tortillas are homemade. Service is friendly and attentive, drive through is quick. Ambiance is pleasant :) I especially like their green white and red neon restroom sign and the painted murals of rural Mexico and the various decor. Agave is spacious with lots of booths and tables, always very clean. They even have karaoke on Fridays. Their Jamaica and horchata are delicious. 5 stars!

Hard to tell but beneath the microwaved top of these refried beans is black-burnt bean.

Agave gets at 2.5 for decor and atmosphere. Service was a bit lacking; not terrible but I wouldn't describe any of the three servers that brought us chips & dips, drinks, and food respectively as being "attentive." I ordered the Plato Mexicano (#5) which comes with three (unspecified, so expect cheese) enchiladas, rice, refried beans, and 1 crispy beef taco. The short version is this: There are only two things of the above that I SUSPECT were fresh: the taco shell and the rice. Read on for details... Firstly, a plate that is too hot too touch is a great indicator that your about to eat a microwaved meal and so with that being said: the enchiladas were covered in sauce and cheese, as one may expect, but underneath all that sauce and cheese were bland and reheated enchiladas. When you don't reheat a corn tortilla properly, it becomes grainy and a little hard; these were exactly that. The crispy taco was tolerable although the ground beef was very overcooked, just completely dried out. I decided to move on to my side dishes and was met with further microwaved disappointment. When you overcook or reheat beans, or even let cool after cooking, they dry out and develop a thin hard layer on top. Freshly made beans are easily salvageable which only further proves that these were OLD & REHEATED. I'd still have been willing to turn a blind eye (tongue?) to this but as I dug deep into the beans to hopefully find something edible I was met with burnt black refried beans staring back at me. Having already put the fork-full in my mouth, I was afforded the additional sensation of tasting the disgusting thing. The beans were carbonized, charcoal-y: BURNT. I tasted the rice just to complete my disappointing lap around the plate. To turn a phrase from RoboCop with all the dryness of my enchiladas: "I'd buy that for a dollar." The cherry on top was that when we went to pay and conveyed that our meal was disappointing, we were compensated with a DISCOUNT. (triggered now) A f@#$ing discount? Are you kidding me?! For inedible beans, boring enchiladas, and an overcooked taco? If I hadn't of been starving I wouldn't have even eaten the damn taco (I only ate 1 enchilada and the taco, for those of you keeping score.) The God#$^ nerve to even offer a discount with all the sincerity of a snake oil salesman. Everyone is entitled to second chances but your money is better spent at TAQUERIA LA TAPATIA.

So much food for the money and delicious too. Lots of menu options. Nice ambiance inside. Good margaritas. Ample parking. I'd say that so far this is my favorite Mex restaurant since moving to SA. I'll certainly be back

Drink was good as well as salsa n cheese dip

That's odd because it is open-seating without a hostess stand. I'm glad we just rolled with it. Also, seating is quite limited, even with the patio. We walked around twice before another couple got up, and we grabbed their seats. Now, with no hostess, this is a recipe for exactly what happened to us. No one came by the table for well over ten minutes (possibly fifteen). Once they did, we had very attentive service. None of that changes the fact that the guy who told us to "sit anywhere" walked past us four times without acknowledging our presence. The food is only average. The schnitzel appetizer was unseasoned and tough. The fried bologna sandwich for my wife was extremely good. She was not as fond of the potato salad. It did not really look like it was picking a side - neither German-style nor southern. She said it had some characteristics of German-style, but there was a definite mayo-based dressing. As for my pastrami sandwich...the pastrami was quite good. Honestly, I do not understand why it is so hard to find good pastrami in a state like Texas (you know, with such an historical mix of cultures that virtually spread it across the globe). This pastrami came in at a solid B. The remainder of the sandwich was completely awful. Tough bread, minimal cheese. I don't eat rotted cabbage (sauerkraut) or thousand island, so I put mayo on the sandwich. As a side note, whoever writes the menu should know that a sandwich with those four components is called a "Reuben," rather than "pastrami sandwich." Anyway, good beer, as should be the case with any brew-pub kind of place. The location is on a narrow, residential street. There is really only street parking, so you REALLY have to want to come here to deal with that level of nonsense. It was an interesting visit, but definitely not worth a return. Ever.

This time, Tandem was the venue of choice. I really liked the place. It was very laid back and comfortable with a bit of a dive bar atmosphere. The seating included sofa areas, small table, and larger tables. It was not brightly lit, and the music was nice. We went to the counter to place our orders. They had sandwiches already made in an icebox. When ordered, the guy put them in a waffle iron before serving. I had the Cubano, and let me tell you- it was the best one I have ever had. It was so crispy and delicious. My only comment is that it could have used a bit more mustard. I also had an iced Americano with Como La Flor syrup. That was a blend of lavender and blueberry and was house-made. It sounded awesome and delivered awesomeness in every sip. I will definitely be back. I have to try the waffle pressed peanut butter and jelly!

Upon parking I noticed the throwback (aka vintage) larger than life photos of Manu and Tim Duncan in front at the entrance. There is a small patio area too with bar tops to be able to hang out when the weather is nice or when they are barbecuing. My Mom and I opted for having a couple of canned beers after walking in. The music was bumping and the tv's were rotating the local news, bar events and specials, and reruns on football and basketball games. The bartender was super friendly and we were surprised to see about 4-5 other people enjoying a few beers during the day. I didn't notice any cocktail shakers or liquor around so this might be a beer-only spot which worked for us. It looks like they host pool tournaments, cook-offs, karaoke, and DJs weekly and on the weekends. I bet this spot gets busy on the weekends for sure. It is super affordable to hang out and have a good time with friends or family. I didn't see any food offerings so ask if it is cool you can bring your own food in.

Our bartender was awesome and quick to get us our drinks and I must say everything was mixed very well!
