Nicer Mexican style restaurant w food from Oaxaca on the corner in downtown Oakland. Can be a little tricky to locate and park. I had my first molote here, was delicious. Same with the tasajo and carnitas tacos and Coloradito Chicken. The service was Ok. Good menu of classic, mezcal, tequila cocktails that are reasonably priced.

We went to this restaurant to celebrate my daughter graduating with her phlebotomy certificate. It was also soccer games due to FiFA World Cup. Needless to say, it was very busy. Regardless we had a great waiter... bright us water, took our order and answered our questions. My parents had the steak ranchero. I had the molcajete, my daughter had the ceviche and two tacos and my wife had the carnitas. All the food was amazing. The drinks were good, I wanted to taste them all but I was driving!! We also had dessert and we shared the churros. Ambiance was loud but it felt like a party.. we were celebrating. If I'm in town I'll go there again.

Agave Uptown is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Oakland! The food is absolutely delicious, with every dish full of authentic flavors and beautifully prepared. Brandon makes some of the most impressive cocktails I've ever had, and his mezcal creations are outstanding. The entire team is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service is always excellent. If you're a mezcal lover, this place is an absolute must-visit. I can't recommend Agave Uptown enough!

I would drive all this way (61 miles one way) to just have the shrimp ceviche again! Great service from the staff at this establishment. We were greeted immediately & had all our questions answered regarding the cocktails and food which led to some wonderful choices enjoyed by all in our group. The restaurant was welcoming, had nice music playing but not too overpowering therefore allowing conversation. There was plenty of seating available inside & outside. Food was fresh and flavorful.

Agave Uptown is a beautiful local joint for Mexican flavors. I came with a friend on a Saturday right at opening and were seated right away. The gentleman servicing us was so kind, patient and thoughtful with recommending items for us to try on the menu. We decided to try out a few things to share. First, the hibiscus agua frescas was both a balance of sour and sweet with a floral fragrance that was addicting. The ceviche came with tender pieces of fish and shrimp. You can really taste the citrus marinade that shines and laying the ceviche with the tortilla chips offers the perfect bite. The empanadas de huitlacoche were delicious. The blue corn tortillas had a nice fried texture and the cheesy filling had a great slightly funky but creamy flavor. The side salad was topped with a sweet dressing that paired well with the empanadas. For dessert, we shared the churros with ice cream. The churros were a small but mighty treat - I loved the cinnamon & sugar coating along with the cream filling of the churro. The ice cream was creamy and so good with the churros and the fresh oranges and strawberries. I highly recommend coming here and supporting a local business!

Solid dining choice in Uptown. Guacamole is very good and the chips are addicting. Nice friendly service. The coastal bowl is a good choice and I tried their enmoladas today. Tequila ice cream is very different and worth a taste. Nice spot to go out for a meal with colleagues or friends.

This is one of my go to spots for work events! Not sure how it is for dinner but it's never crowded at lunchtime. The food is always delicious, though some items are a little pricey. Highly recommend any of the dishes with their special mole sauce. The service is always attentive and friendly as well.

Met a friend her for a bite before catching a concert at the Paramount Theatre. The food and drinks were good. The seafood fajitas were sizzling. The server was attentive and helpful. We choose this spot because it's a short walk to the Paramount, but the food and drinks are actually good and I would eat here again!

Came in on a Sunday late afternoon for a late brunch earlier dinner and was seated right away. Our sever came over pretty quick and bought us ice water's, gave us a few and took our appetizer order, than a few minutes later our dinner order. He was pleasant, friendly, and attentive. Ceviche Shrimps, onions, tomatoes, lime, cilantro avocado, homemade chips were very fresh. Empanada de Huitlacoche with Grilled Chicken in a blue corn tortilla, quesillo, epazote, elote huitlacoche, serrano pepper, onion was tasty. But was suprised when it came out looking like a quesadilla. Half of Caesar Salad with organic romaine hearts, pumpkin seeds, avocado tomatoes in chapulin Caesar dressing was good. Giant Fish Taco in 10" fresh blue corn tortilla, black beans paste Monterey Jack cheese, cabbage, avocado, grilled seabass fish, side salad was good, fish had good flavor. Again, was surprised, it looked more like a burrito. Trio de Mole - Three homemade moles: Mole negro mole rojo, mole verde chicken, carnitas, salmon, handmade corn tortillas. I don't like mole so i didn't taste it, but my wife said it was good.

Agave was recommended by people in the area and it was an overall good experience. The inside was nice and the servers were very kind and efficient. The cocktail was amazing and my wife loved her margarita. The star of the show was the salmon and shrimp tacos!! The salmon was sweet and flavorful, while the shrimp was seasoned to perfection. The only letdown was the giant fish taco. The seabass was lacking flavor and the salsa verde didn't help much. Our table was also a bit sticky. Overall it was a nice, authentic Mexican restaurant.

Been wanting to come here for a min and finally did! The Molcajete was hella delicious!! The Guacamole and chips were tasty too love both the sauces that came with got spice and flavor I can tell they put love in too food. The Drinks were good too La bestia and La Llorona well balanced. The flan and the molcajete stole the show tho!! will be back very soon!

The Cupido and the toxico were both delicious! Well balanced drinks that I'd have again.

Is there still happy hour during the pandemic?

Yes, according to the manager they have happy hour everyday from 2-6pm but both times I have tried the same waitress wouldn't give us the deal. The first time she said we did not specifically ask for the happy hour menu and the second time she said…

The staff has always been friendly, and the food has been consistently enjoyable. One suggestion I'd offer is to consider adding a happy hour or Taco Tuesday special. There are several Mexican restaurants nearby that offer deals like those, and I think it could help bring in more customers during slower times. The food is definitely good enough to attract people--I just think a few specials would give more people a reason to stop in and give the restaurant a try. Overall, I'd definitely come back and would recommend it if you're looking for a solid burrito.

The menudo was completely bland and tasted like it came straight out of a can definitely not fresh and absolutely not worth ordering. The chips and guacamole were just "okay," but even that's being generous since the chips were clearly old and stale. The steak nachos were the final straw. They were straight-up gross. I ordered steak nachos and somehow got nachos covered in rice, barely any meat (if any at all), and a laughably small portion for the price. On top of that, they were made with the same stale chips. For what they charge, this level of food quality is unacceptable. I won't be coming back. The server was rude and short didn't care to answer any questions. Sinceramente me molesta haber gastado dinero aquí. No regresaré.

The 4 stars is really because although the food looks pretty, I would say everything tastes okay, nothing really stood out particularly in taste. If this review was based on food tastes alone, and not looks, vibes, and the great show, it would've been 3 stars. The flautas were a bit too hard for me. Ive had way better flautas at El Torito's in San Leandro. Although there were only like 6 of us total in the audience for the show, it was still really enjoyable. The host, Tony Parker has great energy, and a lot of the comics (I think were like 5 or 6) had us laughing throughout. No one was safe lol. All in all, a really cute place for date night and comedy show. Apparently they have them Sunday-Thursday nights, and they're free!

We ordered the duck carnitas, summer tamales, and kids' quesadilla, along with the roasted beats and a strawberry agua fresca and horchata. I cannot enumerate all of the amazing elements and flavors in this meal, but I can say that the crispy outside of the duck and the ease with which it fell apart drew a connection between duck confit and carnitas that changed the way I will think about both. The hearty masa in the tamales had a the texture of hand ground corn and was substantial enough to warrant chewing though. The beet -- tender and flavorful in itself -- was paired with a nutty, spicy mole like a thick paste, bright with its herbs. The agua fresca was a summertime blast of fruit. Yes, yes. All of the food is delicious and amazing. But what takes the restaurant over the top is that the food is comforting and familiar in equal measure to its inventiveness and flawless execution. The prices on the menu are $5-10 more than the menu on their website. It's a nice dining room, but very loud and the piped-in music makes it worse: I couldn't hear what my date was saying across the table. We started with the smoked trout tostadas. This is kind of ceviche style, and they were delicious. These are "street taco" sized tostadas by the way. The portion was OK but for $20 it could've been a bit more substantial. The duck mole: the duck was nicely unctuous and cooked amazingly, but very salty. The mole had the consistency and taste of hummus. Needless to say it was thick, gloopy and tasted only of cumin. The little salad on the plate was plastered in it. The grilled swordfish Valencia style was just an overly sour salsa verde with a couple chopped green olives with the fish sitting in the watery liquid. The salsa had a kick, but tasted mostly of lime, it was also cold. The swordfish however was grilled perfectly and the portion was great--for $35 I'm glad it was. Beans and rice seemed an overly salty afterthought, and if you don't want beans, too bad, it's served in the same bowl as the rice. The service was almost non-existent--no one checked in on us or asked how things were; there seemed to be only one person taking orders in the dining room and three-four people running around. Our appetizer plates sat in front of us for 15 mins, so when the entrees arrived the runner had a hard time clearing the table and simultaneously putting down the entrees. We didn't see our server again until the end when she gave us the check. Suddenly the charm came on when the tip came up. I appreciate what they're doing, but for that price point there are far better options.
