Green beans and potatoes in olive oil... (side dish)

A Hidden Gem in Agora - A Truly Elegant Greek Mediterranean Experience [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had such a lovely early dinner at this beautiful Greek restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I sat by the window, which gave me a peaceful view and made the experience feel even more special[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. From the moment I arrived, I felt so well taken care of. The server Eduardo was kind and attentive, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the space was elegant yet comfortable, and the whole atmosphere was inviting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a delicious fish dish FRIED FILET OF SOLE, tartar sauce and lemon served with potatoes and green beans - fresh, simple, and perfectly cooked. For my appetizer, I chose TZATZIKI Greek yogurt, cucumber & garlic - flavorful and unique! They also brought out fresh bread with garlic oil, which was a lovely touch. At the end of the meal, they surprised me with a complimentary dessert. It looked like a delicate, nut-free baklava, served beautifully with fresh pineapple and orange slices on the side. It was light, sweet, and the perfect way to end the meal. Prices were average for the area and definitely worth it for the quality and experience. Take a look at the pictures - they really say it all. If you're in Forest Hills, don't miss this charming spot.

Tonight was my first time trying Agora Taverna- I went with a group of 12 to celebrate my friend's birthday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a cute little restaurant on the corner of Forest Hills' busy Main Street. With the windows, it gets tons of natural light, and is a relatively quiet restaurant too, even when at full capacity. It's very low-key, but at the same time, beautiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was impressed by how well the servers managed our large group, and I was even more impressed by the food. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, including tzatziki, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, calamari, and zucchini chips. This place is another instance of me liking the calamari, which doesn't happen often at other restaurants. It was tender and flavorful, and honestly didn't even need the sauce it came with, because it was that well-seasoned. The zucchini chips were thinly sliced and very lightly fried, so they don't leave you feeling weighed down. The stuffed grape leaves taste like the ones my mom makes- which is a very high compliment. It's like you're eating at somebody's home and not a restaurant at all. The hummus and tzatziki are both such classics, and were of course incredible. Paired with the warm pita bread, it was perfection. For my main, I got the fried filet of sole- all entrees come with a side of garlicky green beans and lemon potatoes. I savored every bite, but it ultimately ended up being too much food, so I took it to go. Now I have another meal for tomorrow! To end the meal, they provided the table with complimentary galaktoboureko, pineapple chunks and orange slices. It was very subtly sweet and perfectly creamy. It was the perfect end to our meal! I'm very happy this was recommended to my friend for her birthday dinner. It was everything I'd hoped for and more. Go to this restaurant!

Ummmmm Hello Greek food on Austin street. I don't know why I always miss this place, but when my friend wanted Mediterranean I did a Yelp search. I didn't want to just do quick to go from the other stop on Austin. We thought we would give it a try and also it didn't hurt they had a happy hour. A glass of the house white was sipped as we chatted about live and reviewed the menus. Some dips and some kabobs were had and everything was AMAZING! There is something about lemon potatoes (the cake with the kabobs) that I really could just eat them all day long. We also got one of the special appetizers which was everything bagel seasoning encrusted feta. It was topped with dates which was a nice touch. I just wish it was a bit more warmed up as it wasn't that spreadable. Finally, we ended the meal with complimentary dessert; Greek pastries and orange slices were had to seal the meal. And what a meal it was. Would definitely for back to fulfill my Greek craving on Austin any day!

Always delicious, always good service. The portions are all good for sharing. This is a great option for eating both healthy and delicious food!

I came here as I wanted to eat greek food, so I decided to check this spot out. Interestingly enough, there weren't that many Greek dishes in this place during brunch time. I was able to see the dinner menu as well bc my friend and I couldn't make a decision. When you sit down, they do give you complimentary muffins for the table. Which were pretty good. For my meal, I got the beef gyro in a pita bread, which comes with salad + fries. I did ask for more salad and no fries. It was mediocre. I was expecting more from this place. Hopefully, it was just that one dish and not the others.

Yuck the food is so bland. I was craving for some tzatziki sauce with some with a lamb Gyro like a classic one, not the white sauce that everyone gets from the Halal trucks. This was an absolute disappointment. It was disgusting. Charging all this money for trash

Came with some friends for lunch. We all got various combinations of the mixed plate and an order of fried calamari. The calamari was lightly breaded in a flaky batter that brought out the flavors of the squid. Cooked to perfection it was tender, not chewy. As for the mixed platters, we had lamb gyro and the souvlakis as well as the lemon potatoes and fries. The lemon potatoes were perfectly seasoned and had a nice tartness to each bite. The lamb gyro was tender. The chicken souvlaki being moist and flavorful is the barometer for the level of detail that goes into every plate served.

The staff were very quick with service and very friendly. We were offered toasty bread with some lemon and an olive spread while we waited for our food (which also came out super quick!). We ordered the octopus and lamb chops. The octopus was incredibly tender, the meat was very soft - I personally would've preferred a little more bite to it, but it still tasted good. The lamb chops were flavorful. The medium here is on par with medium rare at most other places, and one of our pieces was borderline rare. At the end of the meal we were also offered complementary desert, which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed our meal overall, but just know that it's a little on the pricey. The octopus and lamb chops came out to $80~ pre-tax and tip. Would recommend if you're a fan of seafood!

There's a lovely rustic, yet high end vibe. It's also immaculate. Our server was fantastic...just the right balance of friendly, attentive and helpful. It was hard to choose appetizers because I actually wanted one of each. There aren't a lot of Mediterranean choices near where I live currently so my eyes were definitely WAY bigger than my stomach. That said, we shared the halloumi and three different dips served with warm pita. Then we added a last minute choice of grilled sweet sausage for my stepdad. Before we even received our appetizers, they brought a lovely pile of warm pita with delicious sides to accompany: olives, white bean spread, and red pepper hummus (I believe... whatever it was, it was delicious!). The appetizers were outstanding and it was really hard to pick a favorite. Each one of the dips was delightful: taramasalata, hummus, and eggplant. I tasted a bite of the sausage and I understood why my stepdad enjoyed it so much (perfectly cooked and just the right amount of seasoning). The appetizers were new to my mom and she truly enjoyed everything. Her main course was crabcakes and she raved about those as well. I chose the Souvlaki with a side of grilled vegetables and it was exactly what I wanted with perfectly spiced and not overcooked cubes of chicken. The other grilled chicken dish got a huge thumbs up...and that's from a super picky eater. We topped everything off by sharing a large piece of cake that was very decadent....and even though I love chocolate,.... no way I could've finished it by myself. It had an Oreo crust and the rest was a rich chocolate mousse. Next time? Baklava. Looking forward to going back to visit the fam and enjoying Maria's again. Maybe they can open up a location near Saratoga? Just saying...

It was pretty quiet inside, outside of the TV playing somewhat loud highlights from the World Cup on loop (why,) with the servers and staff being helpful and friendly. In comparison to the other pick-your-own seafood spots like AbuQir or Hamido, the spices are a tad lighter here, being almost closer to Astoria Seafood, minus the olive oil. I didn't mind, though, as the fish was all fresh and perfectly prepared. To drink, our table stuck with water, though there are a few mocktails and some sodas, including some Algerian ones. They put down some simple bread with a bit of garlic and herbs, which was refilled. For non-seafood dishes, we had a few. The first was the $8 Hmiss, or Hammis, a dip made with roasted pepper, tomato, and garlic sautéed in olive oil. The warm dish was earthy and garlicky, and went perfectly with the bread, with the flavor reminding me of a warmer version of some Turkish eggplant dips. There was also the Peasant Salad for $12, with cucumber, tomato, red onion, and Kalamata olives topped with feta, oregano, and dill. If you're familiar at all with Horiatiki/Village salad, it's basically the same thing, though with crumbled feta instead of a block, and it was refreshing and tasty. Finally, we eventually got an $8 side order of Basil Garlic Mashed Potatoes, which were decent. The first seafood to arrive at the table was the $16.99 Algerian Sardines, which consisted of sardines from Morocco with a spice mixture. The man in front recommended them fried, and the portion was nice, and the flavor was excellent. The fish was fried perfectly, with the bones fried enough that the entirety of it could be eaten. This was delicious, and one of the highlights of the meal. As we loved these sardines, we eventually got a small order of the other option, the "Marinated Sardines" from Spain. These were a bit more expensive by weight, being $10.56 for 0.48 pounds, but by comparison, these were much flatter and larger. The half pound consisted of three large pieces, which were broken down and divided among the group. While I slightly preferred the spices from the Algerian version, I liked the texture of these more, as they were more meaty. I don't think you can go wrong with either, as both were excellent. There was also one pound of Mussels for $17.99, which was available in one of two cooking preparations, Moules Marinière or a version with tomato sauce, herbs, and feta. I went with the latter, and they were excellent, with all of the mussels being open. The feta added a unique, slightly salty touch, with the broth being delicious. They had brought us out some extra bread, and we made good use of it. If I were here alone, I might have this along with some sardines and leave very happy. We also got two whole fish, which were both ordered grilled and butterflied. First was the Dorado, or Orata, for $29.24 for 1.54 pounds. As is typical for this fish, it was delicate and light, but had plenty of flavor. The other was the American Red Snapper, which was a bit more expensive at $37.90 for 1.58 pounds. By comparison, this fish was a lot thicker and therefore, a bit more flavorful. We enjoyed both, with a slight preference going towards the cheaper fish for most outside of me and one other. Another highlight was the Scallops for $37.23 for 0.98 pounds, which came out to 14 large pieces. As recommended, we got these sautéed, with the scallops coming in a delicious garlicky juice on the bottom with plenty of other herbs. The scallops were tender while staying plump, though I slightly preferred the more caramelized tops at AbuQir, with these having a more uniform texture. The rest of the people liked what I couldn't eat, the $24.99 Octopus for around half a pound. The octopus came out pre-cut, which made splitting it very easy. I can't comment much on the flavor or saltiness as some other reviewers brought up, or else I'd be in the hospital right now post-anaphylaxis, but people liked it a lot. If you don't want to bother with the lines or crowds at the other fish spots, I would highly recommend going here. The fish is fresh, perfectly prepared, and seasoned just enough to highlight the natural flavors. I would go back.

I've never had Algerian-style seafood and was excited to try out Le Petit Pêcheur. We were a party of 6 and made a reservation that same day which was great! We arrived and got seated but weren't explained the process. First, you go up to the fish counter and order the fish you want, the amount you want, and the style you want it cooked (grilled, fried, or sautéed). They've done a great job with the display and I liked seeing the various options in front of me. The worker who helped us was super friendly and took the time to explain what each fish was. I also appreciate that their pricing is transparent (posted on their website). So why 3 stars? Once we finally ordered, we went back to our seats and ordered appetizers, sides, and drinks with our waiter. It took almost 40 minutes to receive the Greek Salad and Virgin Mojito we ordered. We had already received our Fried Calamari before that. Similarly, we got all the fish before the French Fries & Rice Vegetable Medley came out. It was frustrating and took away from the experience the fact that we didn't have the sides to eat with the fish at the time the fish came out. We literally had finished everything when the waiter came out with Lemon Potatoes which we had to send back considering it took too long to get them. It's a shame considering all the food we had was actually delicious. The Fried Calamari was crispy, tender, and not chewy at all, the Grilled Spanish Branzino was buttery, light, and delicious, and the Tiger Shrimp was grilled beautifully and the lemon olive oil mix just enhanced it even more. Even the Marinated Sardines were some of the best I've had. The fish was fresh, grilled/fried properly, and we truly didn't have a bad bite here. Prices are also more than reasonable. There's a clear lack of communication by the staff since two people within our group had provided their credit card to pay and they charged both. It's a shame we couldn't enjoy it as much as I hoped because of the operational issues. Hope they improve with time but until then, I won't be back.
