I really like this place. I think this place has the BEST homemade chipolte salsa and chips. I always get the camarones (with is three soft tacos with shrimp, lettuce, and tomato salsa) because they have an AMAZING sauce on there - the chipotle aoili. (Are you noticing a trend here?) I always get extra chipotle sauce on the side and just covered my tacos with it. Yum yum. LOVE this place. Meh. Have visited 3-4 times and enjoyed the location next to the water. The food has always been okay to average-ish. Yesterday I ordered the carnitas tacos to go. While the greens/cabbage were very fresh, the carnitas were definitely the worst I've had. Dry chunks of pork that almost tasted leftover and were virtually flavorless, and no sauce whatsoever. I needed to use the salsa I requested for the chips on the tacos, leaving none for the chips. All in all, a very disappointing experience for an $11 taco lunch. Not sure I'll go back. read more

we rented a two person kayak and paddled around lake union for a while then came back and ate in the restaurant. The paddle was fun and reasonably priced. The food was excellent! I had vegetarian tacos, and was a little nervous since I've never had yams in tacos before. OMG, they were fan$%^#ingtastic! I heart this place. read more

This place has some problems now. I have been a loyal customer since they opened in the 1990s, willing to overlook the crowds, sloppy food, and occasionally poor ingredient quality, but not after today's lunch. Yuck. Everything (including chips) tasted of rancid grease, the potatoes tasted like potato buds mixed with cheeze whiz, the black beans (which were never that good) tasted like they were made from free-dried powder, the salsas were all weak, and mostly tasted like sugar or pineapple juice. There were quite a few less people in there, and I know why. This goes beyond resting on ones laurels and descends into just plain gross food. They seem like nice people, and since this is close to my work, I will hope that they improve, but it will take a rave review from a trusted eater to convince me to go back there again. read more

One thing the Mexican restaurant, Agua Verde, may not be known for is their heavenly scones and fresh coffee. Working across the street, I often make a pit stop in the morning to grab a double espresso and a warm, fresh out-of-the-oven scone. They have several options for flavors, but the raspberry and mango scone is my favorite. It's FULL of fruit and the scone is soft, warm and moist. On saturday, I went in before work and the friendly lady behind the counter recommended the raspberry and mango scone. I took my coffee and scone outside on the dock along the restaurant and was enveloped in blistful happiness. This was surely the best scone Agua Verde has to offer. This is a pretty unique mexican food place. I tried their sandwich - very nice! The mango quesadilla is also very special and delicious. The drinks and soup are only so - so, and the menu is a bit pricy. However, I don't see that many special mexican places around Seattle so whenever I am tried of the generic ones I come here for a spike. read more

I keep coming back to Agua Verde - the setting is great, the food is tasty (the fresh salsa bar is fantastic and the mangodilla has become my go-to), drinks are good, and service is friendly. There can be a wait on really nice days and at happy hour, but really this place is good even when it's raining. Their deck is enclosed and has heaters, so it stays open year-round! Kayak and paddleboard rentals are a little pricey, but nice quality. read more

Went here on the recommendation of a friend and loved it. Ordered the veggie tostadas and they were some of the best I've had. They also make their own guacamole. Their margaritas were just as amazing as the food. Top that all off with patio seating, a view of Lake Washington and the paddle club and you've got yourself a wonderful lunch spot. read more

This place used to have decent quality food; however the last few times we have been there the food quality has gone down significantly. I don't know if the restaurant has new owners or they're trying to cut corners, but the quality is just not there. I always get the Bacalao fish tacos, and man are they tasty. I love this place, but make sure to note that they are closed for shift change in the middle of the afternoon for 30 min from 3:30-4. I somehow always end up going there during this time, but it is worth the wait for them to open again. read more

The food at this restaurant was really not good and the portions were small for the expensive price. The flavors of the dishes clashed and were not palatable. The waitress that served our group (with blue hair and bandana) was really sassy and had bad customer service. Instead of being reslectful to us as customers, she was very impatient and looked irritated the whole time. When we received the bill and wanted to split it individually so that everyone could pay separately, one of the members of our group manually took the time to divide up the costs and match each of our credit cards with the right dish. When we handed the cards and each of the receipts to the waitress, she gave us a rude look and comment about how she can only divide the bill 4 ways. This is ridiculous since it doesnt take that much time to just swipe the cards since we already did the work for her to match each dish to their respective cards and receipts. We would NOT recommend others coming here since the food and service is very bad!!!! read more

Very irritated with Agua Verde today. I generally love the food and atmosphere. Today i was hungry looking forward to a cool spot in the shade and some grub on the way to my next plan for the day. Came quite a distance to find that their door was closed with a sign saying they'd reopen at 4. Apparently they are closed daily 3:30-4, though yelp doesn't mention that. The issue I had was it wasn't yet 3:30. I paid for parking right out front and arrived at 3:24 to a closed door. When i asked a gentleman why they closed early, he says, "Its just a few minutes. I asked if there was a reason and he retorted, "I don't know I'm not the manager". Not happy with Agua Verde today. read more

I love this place. Its got a great porch area, and awesome food. Don't get discouraged if there is a line, there almost always is, and it seems to move pretty fast. They have a good happy hour 4-6 Mon-Thurs. Cheap, delicious margaritas and beer. Yes, you have to pay for chips and salsa, but there is a salsa bar with many different kinds of salsa, one in particular that I quite enjoy. Not sure what it's called, but it's green. We've had decent service and no wait every time I've been there, but it was early- happy hour. To sit outside on the water there was a wait. I'm anxious to try the kayak rental. I love Agua Verde! For lunch you stand in line, order, and then seat yourself. You'll also be expected to bus your own table most of the time. The deck is the best place to sit, with its view of Lake Union. In the winter it's glassed in and heated, too, which is nice. Try the tacos rather than a burrito or one of their sandwiches, and you'll be happy. The carnitas tacos come with corn tortillas, lots of pork and cabbage, and chips on the side. For 2 more dollars you also get rice and beans - choice of black or pinto. Top 'em off with the diablito salsa and they're delicious. Fish tacos here are also excellent. Margaritas are good, but in my experience not especially strong. I'm usually okay with that because I'm there for lunch. Because they rely so much on the student population, their hours can be kind of wacky during breaks. This year they were randomly closed a couple of times when I stopped by, and then they officially closed from December 15th to the beginning of January. It's a good idea to call ahead during breaks/ holidays. ETA: As of March 2008, Agua Verde has changed their carnitas recipe. It's now drowned in some sort of sweet-ish barbecue sauce. This is NOT a good thing; it's practically inedible. I had to dock them a star for changing something great into something totally mediocre. read more

Decent food, lovely location.

By far my favorite Mexican place in Seattle! The ingredients are fresh and everything is sustainable and farm grown. The corn tortilla tacos are tasty, make sure to get the beans and rice too..compliment the meal well. You can take the food to go and head to Gasworks Park on a sunny day or you can sit in the restaurant, the menu is different if you are sitting in. I would recommend the seafood enchilada w/ cream sauce (can't take this one to go). The cool thing about Aqua Verde is you can go kayaking (level 1) and then head to the restaurant afterwards (level 2) make sure to get a seat on the deck! Enjoy! read more

I work near Agua Verde so I have been there probably over 100 times, so I feel I have really experienced everything it has to offer. With the exception of the Nachos I really don't think there is anything remarkable about Verde. Stuff is generally overpriced, waits are long and the chance of orders being messed up is fair to middling. I find the tacos, while pretty tasty, to be unsatisfying due to smallness and price. In saying that I have been there over 100 times. Why? NACHOS! They are cheap, delicious, filling and quick. On top of that you can put their yummy home-made salsas ALL over it (diablo, verde and chipotle options). Which I do with alacrity! If you feel like splurging you can add the pork on top of it, but really just plain is still great. If this was a review of the nachos I would give it a 5! read more
