    TOSTADAS DE TINGA
    Jay Y.

One of the best Mexican spots in Seattle. The food is pretty authentic. Starts with a complimentary taco and goes up from there. The ceviche is great, and the loaded nachos are my personal favorite. Portions are solid for the price. Staffs are attentive and friendly, and the space works well whether you're coming with one person or a big group. One thing to keep in mind: this place gets a line during peak hours, so if you show up hungry and unprepared, you might regret it. I'll sometimes just do a takeout order when I'm craving something specific and don't want to wait. Either way, worth it.

Food was absolutely delicious!! I ordered ceviche for an appetizer and carne asada taco plate that came with rice and beans. All the food tasted very authentic and they make their tortillas in house. They also serve you with a small tostada with beans while you wait for your food. Service was fantastic, our server was very friendly. I don't recommend for big groups as the restaurant was smaller. They do not take reservations, we went on a Friday night and didn't wait too long to be seated at a table.

    Happy hour nachos and torta

Seated immediately on a Friday at 5 pm just in time for their happy hour from 4-6 pm daily. Menus and water were laid out and then a free refried bean tostada quickly was dropped off at the table, which was crunchy and delicious. Service was attentive and quick that whole night, they cleaned up tables at lightening speed next to us. All the portion sizes of the food were large. Added chicken to our nachos, removed tomatoes, and server offered to put guac on the side because that had tomatoes too. Food was good, my only comment was that the torta was dry, so I added the salsa from the chips&salsa dish to it which made it better. Got an ultimate margarita, it was alcohol forward which I prefer. I didn't really have high expectations going in since happy hours are usually hectic at any restaurant, but left pleasantly surprised, buzzed, and full. Ambience was dim, good music, fun night out, I would definitely go back. It is quite busy and loud here, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a quiet intimate date.

Cheerful and attentive service. No sooner as you are seated, the staff brings water and a complementary tostada to munch while you peruse the menu. Vegetarian with beans and cabbage. Really delicious. We ordered the guacamole, a spicy dip. and chips to start. The chips are phenomenal. Clearly house made.warm, fresh, lightly salted ä, and crispy. Solid guac, and a smoky spicy dip. The margaritas were also really good. Bartenders special and cucumber. Well made and balanced. Not overly boozy. The burrito was enormous and well filled, with carne asada, rice and beans. Huge dollop of guac on top. The street tacos were flavorful too: cuicken, Al pastor, and carnitas. The usual rice and beans on the side. I decided to try the special: the enfrijoladas. Thin slice of grilled beef which had a great marinated flavor. The tortillas had been soaked in beans and then filled with a bit of cheese and topped with creamy beans, cabbage etc. good combination of flavors. Also appreciate that a steak knife (of good quality) was provided. Overall a fun place to visit and cheerful atmosphere.

Came back with some friends for happy hour, service could've definitely been better. Waiter seemed annoyed we were getting happy hour food, didn't really check on us, kind of had a bit of an attitude. Latinos giving other latinos attitude is kind of obvious. The food was good, but attitude will easily make me not return anywhere. If they don't want people getting happy hour they should probably have it only at the bar area or I'm not sure what else they could do. Everyone at the table could feel the vibes, wasn't just me. Definitely uninterested in returning, shame because the food is pretty good and sizes are good. Just don't like feeling disrespected and like my money is useless.

THE BEST Mexican restaurant I've experienced in Seattle! From the decor, to the service, the drinks and the FOOD! Everything was excellent! I asked a good friend who has great taste, what's her fav Mexican restaurants and Fogón was first on her list. And guess what? Now it's mine too! I treated my Grandma to lunch and it was truly a treat to us both. Our server was friendly, and patient. We were given a vegetarian tostada as a complementary appetizer. A perfect combo of textures, spices, and flavors. My gma ordered the lunch chicken enchiladas and a classic margarita. I ordered shrimp fajitas and a holiday drink the "Nice or Naughty Ponche". Everything was delicious and delectable. I wouldn't doubt ordering anything new from the menu I just know it will be good! Can't wait to go again!

The Happy Hour food is still delicious, but prices have gone up. Not surprising, and it's still a good deal. But not the amazing deal it was before the increase.

Friend and I came here after the Seahawks championship parade because he said I had to try it! I'm glad he brought me here because this place was really good! We came around lunch time so we were lucky enough to order from the lunch menu. Once you walk in there is a person making fresh tortillas. So you know this place is going to be good! Their lunch menu is a solid lunch menu! I got the torta and a Pacifico and that torta was massive! They even give you a refried bean tostada as an appetizer for free! Glad I came here while I was in the area and I'll definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

As a former Southern Californian, Mexican food was something I've given up on trying in Seattle. Which is probably why it had taken me so long to visit Fogon, and wow don't I wish I had tried them sooner! The food, service, and ambience were all amazing, and I can't wait to go back. My husband and I went around 2pm on a Wednesday, and the restaurant was fairly empty, as we had hoped. We got the nachos with carne asada, ceviche, and then the churros. We got the full portion of both the nachos and ceviche, even though it was lunch time and they had half portions available. Everything we had was phenomenal- it rang simple done really well. The beans, cheese, carne asada, onions, tomatos, guac, and crema on the nachos were seasoned well and generously portioned. The chips were the thick crispy kind which held up well under all the toppings. I liked how the topping were distributed- I was able to get a little bit of everything with every bite. The ceviche was refreshing and full of large shrimp chunks. The churros came with a scoop of ice cream, and it was a really nice way to end the meal. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the strawberry filling in the churro. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu!

    Had la cazuela drink amazing.

We where there to watch the Mexico vs South Korean soccer game on Thursday night. Service was amazing our bar tenders where amazing drinks amazing and food amazing. Recommend the lengua tacos. We are from out of state and I recommend this place. We got it off google recommendations and it was amazing. Thank you

After flying in from the Bay and checking out some of the landmarks I found this place on Yelp. The pictures of the food looked promising and so I made my way up. I took a seat at the bar and ordered the mole enchiladas and a margarita. While I waited I noticed how trendy and lively the space was. This is definitely a place you come in a group to enjoy drinks. It's definitely got the vibe for that. My food came out piping hot and while I had high expectations for this dish it reminded me of a dish I had at Chevys years ago. The margarita was fine nothing out of the ordinary. When the bill came I was surprised the dish and margarita with tip was a little over $41. For that price I feel I could have overindulged somewhere else. The food was simple. But this place is really for happy hour and drinks with large groups.

Rating: four stars We went here during happy hour. Despite going on a Saturday, we got seated quickly. The staff was friendly. We took advantage of their happy hour menu and got the nachos and margaritas. The food and drinks were great, and the prices were even better. I also got a burrito, and it was delicious. I would recommend going here, especially during happy hour!

Ask the Community - Fogón Cocina Mexicana

    Do they take reservations?

Yes, they do. In the summer especially, I would recommend it, they get very busy because they are really good. They also do take out, which you can order from their website.

    Do they have live music?

    No, they don't

Can you order food at the bar?

    Yes!

Is this restaurant asking for proof of vaccination since the drop of the vaccine mandate?

No need for proof of vaccination

Do you still have the late night happy hour?

Doesn't show that on the menu anymore. Just 3-6pm

Do they still offer happy hour? Saw one recent review that mentioned "wish they had happy hour". It's apparent that they used to offer happy hour. Did something change?

Happy hour is every day from 3-6! $7 food specials and a lot of great drink options.

Are you open for takeout during social distancing?

    Yes

Do they make their own tortillas?

Yes! When you walk in you can see them making them on the left.

Do they not have frozen margaritas? Thanks

    Yes they sure do

Does anyone know when Fogón will reopen?

I'm usually a fan of a smaller, curated menu because it suggests care in sourcing and execution. But for us, the execution just didn't land. Everything is served family-style, but the portion sizes didn't justify the price point. We started with the sourdough and butter spread, and it was a letdown right away. The bread was hard as a rock, and the butter--while sounding interesting--came slightly burnt and didn't feel worth $11 for two pieces. Next was the albacore tuna tostada. As someone who travels to Mexico City often, I was genuinely excited for this. But it leaned heavily on avocado, with barely any tuna to balance it out. For $25 and only two tostadas, it felt pretty stingy. The rapini quesadilla sounded promising but ended up tasting mostly like broccolini and mushrooms--nothing that really stood out or justified the dish. We finished with the 21-day dry-aged steak, which, at $59, felt like it should've been a highlight. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. It came out essentially raw, which I didn't mind in theory, but it was incredibly chewy and lacked flavor. It was difficult to cut and even harder to enjoy. The tortillas were nice, and the demi-glaze had potential, but overall it just didn't come together. Even the refried beans on the side were underwhelming--something you could easily find done better at a casual spot. On the bright side, the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim was excellent--well-balanced and probably the highlight of the night. And the service was warm and attentive, which I appreciated. But overall, for the prices and the hype, this place just didn't do it for me. Maybe we ordered wrong, but I've had much better elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be back.

Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. We had enchiladas, a dip sampler (for appetizer) and Tlacoyos. Everything was fine but nothing really stood out, sadly. It wasn't very busy while we were there, so hoping that they are doing ok as a business. I would love to come back if they brought back the old menu w/ things that you cannot really find elsewhere, including the great cocktail menu and desserts that were offered previously.

So many of our regular spots had lines out the door, which was no surprise, but we ended up getting a table here. Figured Mexican food is hard to mess up. They have an option where you can try ALL of their dips for $20, which I couldn't resist. It was so fun, they had like 9 different ones! I got the shrimp tacos and they were so flavorful that I almost gasped. The creamy sauce, crunchy veggie toppers, smooth avocado, and perfectly cooked shrimp...just wow. I will be dreaming about this dish for years to come. I am a pescatarian and gluten free and there were TONS of options for me. They mostly use corn for everything, not flour. The staff was gracious and kind. They seemed a little understaffed but truly made the most of it and made every table feel attended to and special, which was so lovely. Really cool vibe- lots of art and special touches. A really cool place that I can't wait to recommend to friends.

Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!
