This place saved my LIFE! I had a nightmare with a bridesmaid dress that was waaaaaay too tight (I was literally in tears) and Kim was able to fix it beautifully. It fit so well, was virtually unnoticeable, and turns out the other bridesmaids had similar sizing issues, but were told by their tailors that they couldn't do anything about it. Not to mention they wound up spending up to $40 more than I did to fix far less and I had it back within a week! I would highly recommend Ah Sew to anyone. I needed my wedding dress altered and asked brides on "the knot" website if anyone knew of a good seamstress. They referred me to Ah Sew! I loved them! They did a perfect job! They did my flower girls dress hems also. This was six years ago! Since our wedding, they have done about 6 formal dresses for me, and also my husbands Marine Corps Blues. Came here on a Thursday afternoon to get my scrub pants hemmed and tapered. I needed them for class on Tuesday, and she was able to get it done for me by Saturday afternoon, which was very nice of her. The hem and the taper each cost 9 dollars, and were done very well. You couldn't even tell where she had taken off material! The tailor is also very friendly and nice, would definitely recommend this place to others! read more

I have tried several tailors in the Western suburbs, and there was always something not quite right with the end product. Then I found Ah Sew, and they are perfect! I recently lost a fair amount of weight and was starting a new job so I needed several suits and dresses tailored in less than two weeks. The ladies took the time to hear how I like my clothes to fit and did a dynamite job in a week. The clothes fit better than if I had them custom made for me. Once I brought in a coat with a broken zipper and though the price was reasonable, it would have been more expensive than I wanted for an older coat. As with another reviewer, my job requires that I present with a tip-top appearance. Therefore, I wanted to take my brand-new suit to someplace that ONLY does alterations, not cleaning. I was happy with theie friendly fitting process and their promise to have it ready in one week, as I needed it for a major presentation the next morning. When I picked up the suit, it was uncovered, wrinkled, full of lint and loose strands. I also saw dog hair (the suit came straight from the clothing store). A small dog was lying down at the front of the store. It clearly was not 'wear-ready, " and I needed it the next morning! This was similar to another reviewer's complaint. When I inspected the work, I noted a large pucker in the jacket's back where they failed to lay down the seam straight prior to sewing. Very noticeable! The pant's cuffs were also sewn poorly, bunched up along the very visible seam. This job was not professional. I hesitate to take it back for repair since they've already demonstrated that the quality of their work is poor. I wish I could include a photo here, but I have one on Angie's List. read more

I've been going to Ah Sew for a few years now. I only get a couple of things tailored every year, like a bridesmaid dress or a pair of jeans. They always do a nice job. Everyone is super pleasant at the store. I recently brought in a bridesmaid dress that was a little too big. I had them take it in, but I think I requested a little too much. It was too tight when I tried it on at home. I called the next day and asked if they could fix it in a day. They said it would be no problem. So I went in at the end of the day, it was slow, so they fixed it for me right there and then. I was in and out in 20 minutes. It actually made my day! read more

I come here for all of my quick alteration needs, as I live just down the street. The ladies here are very friendly and do fantastic work in a very timely manner (less than a week if you request it). They did a fantastic job for me on a couple of pairs of slacks and shirts. I just told them what I wanted and they knew exactly what to do. One thing to note for you guys out there: If you need significant work done on a suit jacket, I would probably find a male tailor or someone who knows the workings of proper suiting. I brought in one of my suits and the jacket ended up so tight that the lapels wouldn't sit flush on my chest. Sure, the GQ-style slim suit looks stylish, but for something I'll be wearing for more than a couple of hours at a time, I need something I can move around in comfortably. All in all, I have been more than satisfied with most of my experiences with Ah Sew and if I ever need pants or shits altered, I won't go anywhere else! read more

I needed a dress hemmed (the dress was long and needed about 5 inches to be altered) for a black tie wedding I was attending. I would have taken to my local cleaners but I wanted it to be perfect since this was a black tie event at a posh venue downtown. I brought the dress in about 2 weeks (on a Tuesday) before the event. I was specific with the date and asked if there was enough time for them to complete the work. They assured me that because the alterations were easy (straight long dress, with interior lining at the same length) it shouldn't be an issue. The lady who was there that day measured and told me to come back the following Tuesday. So far so good.......On the specific Tuesday I went to pick up the dress and this is where it all starts to go bad.....I try the dress on and notice that one side is actually longer than the other. The first lady (same lady who took the measurements) was adamant that I was wrong but I kept insisting, then the other lady that was there came to the front and confirmed that I was correct. She (2nd lady) was very apologetic, told me not to worry and assured me they would fix it and I could pick it up on Friday (the wedding was on Saturday). This is where it starts to go really bad........I show up on Friday hoping for the best....I try the dress on and the lining was now longer than the actual dress!!!!!!! When I pointed it out, at first the lady that was there (same lady who also said it was straight when it wasn't the prior week) said it's not, I kept again insisting (and now on the verge of tears) and she then responded with a flippant "what do you want me to do about it". At that point I was so upset, I just responded nothing. To add insult to injury she did not even apologize....(Also worth mentioning is that the dress was so wrinkled and there were threads all over the place by the hem). HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Luckily I was able to find a cleaners near my home that was still open and they rushed the hem for the lining, cleaned up all the threading that was loose and also pressed the dress for me to pick up on Saturday. read more

Originally, this would have been a five star review. This location was recommended through friends. I brought my bridesmaid dress here for alterations a month before my friends wedding. Two weeks later, I returned for another round of alterations. I knew we would have more than one fitting as I had lost two dress sizes since ordering the dress. They scheduled me to return in a week. Unfortunately, they were closed when they said they would be open so I had to reschedule again. When I did come in for the third fitting, it still wasn't quite right so she had me stay as she fixed it which I appreciated. I tried it on after she fixed it, took a photo for the bride, and the halter laid flat as it should. The seamstress took the dress to 'clean up the thread' a little. I did not try it on again there as it had fit just a few minutes previous. However, the day before I flew out to the wedding, I tried it on with all the accessories. Unfortunately, in her process of 'cleaning up the thread' the halter was pulled a bit from the dress, bunched, and did not lie flat anymore. When I landed in San Diego, I had to go to yet another seamstress to fix the error and pay again for alterations. This should not have happened at all! Because of the amount of alterations needing to be done, I was happy with the price at Ah Sew but I am not happy with the fact I had to pay a second seamstress to fix the problem created by the first seamstress when 'cleaning.' read more

I just went there for alterations for 2 bridesmaid dresses that had to be taken in. When I first got the dresses I was 11 lbs heavier so there was much work to be done on them. One was even an Indian dress that had a lot of bead work on it. They did a great job and the dresses fit perfectly for the wedding. This place was a nightmare. I dropped off a bridesmaid dress for alterations 3 weeks before wedding date. They took measurements. I went back 4 yes 4 times they still could not get it right. I was told it would not be ready for pick up before wedding. I took it anyway half altered, dusty, wrinkled and was still charged as she held the dress ransom until I paid. If it was worth my time, I would sue in Small Claims Court just for the principle of it. I did however, file a grievance with the Better Business Bureau and sent a copy to the Westmont Chamber of Commerce so they can realize what kind of shop is doing business in their town. read more
